Chapter 15: The Labyrinth

A flash of blue light flashed. As the energetic roar subsided, two figures appeared.

Andy shook his head, although it was not the first time he had tried quantum teleportation, he still felt a slight pain in his body.

Of course, the tin can on the side couldn't feel his feelings, and at this moment he had already begun to turn his tracks and search around.

"Can't we just teleport to the seed bank?" Andy glanced around, and although he didn't know where it was, it was certainly not near the target building he had seen earlier at the top of the central control tower.

"The auto-repulsion field there for emergency defense may still be working, but I have diminished control over it because of the earthquake and need to go in and make manual adjustments. If that thing is still running, the result of our quantum teleportation is likely to be that I lost a precious transit body and you were killed instantly, so that this bad outcome is not possible, I teleported the two of us to the nearest safe area. Tina's electronic eye had finished scanning the surroundings.

"Looks like there's something going on here.... Small - question. "Large shrubs filled the area around the two of them, and there were so many kinds of plants that it was obvious that they should have been planted artificially

"Tree wall", but under the infiltration of the earthquake and mutant plants, this area is full of this kind of thing.

They multiply and spread wildly, forming a unique ecosystem here. The surrounding tree walls are more than two and a half meters high, and they are of different shapes, tall and thin, and they are intertwined with each other, making this place feel like a labyrinth.

Andy spun around and saw that he seemed to be surrounded by these half-living walls, and saw that the surrounding tree walls had begun to grow and crawl over the carnivorous mutant plants that had become active due to the arrival of the two.

"You really chose a good place to teleport, which can be regarded as sending people into the grass?" Tina snorted discontentedly, and the projector activated, this time the holographic illusion was wearing combat armor.

"I said that many of my sensors were destroyed because of the earthquake, how did I know that this place has become like this.... But a few legged trees aren't a problem, but don't tell me you're scared. Andy and Tina the Phantom stood back-to-back surrounded by plants, their flamethrowers already in their hands.

"What do you think?" Tina suddenly emitted a strange halo all over her body, and Andy felt dizzy in front of him, but quickly returned to normal.

"What are you doing...", before he could finish speaking, he noticed that the plants around him had fallen into a frenzy and began to attack each other.

"Project some thoughts into the pitiful nerve centers of these brainless plants, and make them feel like they're all around them with good food." Phantom Tina gave a brief explanation.

"Don't worry about what will happen to you, it's just the degree to which you can control the plants, and then..."Andy watched Tina make a strange gesture as she crossed her hands above her head, a somewhat comical gesture that resembled the pre-war preparation of some pre-war comic book heroes to amplify their moves when trying to defeat powerful evil bosses.

"Be careful." Tina gave a final warning, and a myriad of red lasers shot out from above her head, which rained through all the mutated plants in a large fan in front of her, and the heat not only pierced or sliced through them, but also caused a fire.

The red glow of the laser rain even briefly suppressed the sunlight, causing Andy next to him to be temporarily blind.

"Oh my God!" Andy's eyes were almost blinded, and the power of this move was roughly equivalent to the power of hundreds of self-charging pistols firing at the same time.

Just as he was losing his mind, a mass of black mutant plants that were frantically attacking in the middle of the struggle noticed him by chance, and the plants immediately lay on the ground and spread out into a carpet-like posture, moving quickly towards Andy.

This mode of travel is highly concealed in chaotic situations, and if it can reach the vicinity of its prey smoothly, it can burst out in an instant, enveloping the prey entirely.

It is strong enough to strangle some of the prey's fragile bones and squeeze some of the prey's organs out of shape, and then it will quickly secrete digestive juices to complete a brutal and rapid hunt.

But its proximity didn't go unnoticed by Andy. Andy, who wanted to use the flamethrower to deal with the plants on the other side, was forced to look at the ground the moment he activated the V mode, and then the entire flat surface of the ground was marked with a blue glow.

[Creeping vine] [suspected southern snake vine] flamethrower instantly spewed out high-temperature flames, and the plant was burned into a ball of flames as soon as it jumped up, and bright flames erupted everywhere, like a fire that purified the world and burned all the ugliness around it into harmless ashes.

The fire joined forces with the flames caused by Tina's lasers, burning the labyrinth of mutated plants into flames.

The heat was getting higher and higher, and Andy felt a little unbearable, his eyes couldn't be opened from the fierce fire, the smoke choked him to cough wildly, and the rolling heat wave even scorched his eyebrows.

Tina noticed this, and she looked left and right for a while before choosing a direction.

"Do you have any grenades?" Andy put a gas mask on his face to reduce the gas to hurt himself, and glanced at the beep boy, who did have a few grenades left in it.

"What do you want that thing for?" Tina held out her hand.

"Just take it, and follow me." Andy shrugged and handed her a few grenades, Tina then pulled out the safety of one of the grenades and threw the grenade in one direction, the grenade exploded soon after entering the fire, and the powerful impact actually extinguished the flames there.

The two of them rushed towards the gap in the flames, throwing grenades into the distance as they ran Tina and Andy ducked behind her to dodge the fragments, and the two quickly ran out of the flaming maze of plants.

Andy took off his gas mask and took a big breath, then took a bottle of water from the beep-boy and poured it down.

The illusion Tina dissipated into the air, and not far away, the brain-controlled robot Tina appeared there.

"It's funny, how did those badly mutated plants come into being? I also did some bit of analysis of the new creatures in the wasteland before the earthquake, but I never found any trace of these guys. But now, it seems that this kind of thing has spread throughout the nursery, which is not a good thing for the pristine ecological environment. Under Tina's electronic gaze, a massive mass of mutated plants stumbled out of the flames with flames, and soon disintegrated in place by the flames, and slipped out of its body, a corpse that had been corroded by digestive juices and scorched by the flames, thus becoming unrecognizable.

Andy could see that it must not be the corpse of an animal, it must be a human being. But how can there be living people in the nursery who have been eaten by mutated plants?

Covering his nose and leaning over to take a look, Andy asked Tina suspiciously.

"Aside from Harold and Akisha, you had any other visitors here?" Tina's electronic eyes were also scanning the bones, as if she was interested in the thing.

"No, no. There were only two of them in the nursery at the time, and none of the other visitors had been confirmed to have left the nursery, and this situation was certain until I turned off the phone after the earthquake.... Even now, although the nursery has been largely damaged, the main entrances and exits remain largely controlled, with some destroyed and impassable and others under the control of automated facilities. ”

"Also, take a closer look at the skull of this corpse." When Andy heard this, he changed the angle and realized that the skull of the corpse was indeed strange.

The corpse's head is not supposed to be spherical in shape similar to that of a normal human, but rather close to a spindle.

Tina was silent for a moment, then made a deference.

"I'm afraid there's something wrong with the seed bank, too."
