Chapter 47: Entering the Holy Tower
Andy sits at a roadside stall eating a plate of strange specialities. The plate is supposed to be a plate of stir-fried vegetables, the main ingredients are from the plants that grow near the village, a yellow and green plant and a black shriveled mushroom, which is mixed with fat from the animals and fried in an old pot that has been turned out of nowhere.
The owner is a young native who is sweating profusely and stir-frying the large pile of food in the cauldron with two homemade spliced stir-fry spoons, surrounded by a large number of diners.
Andy sat near one of the several dining tables next to him, which was actually an iron plate padded with a few scrap tires, which by the way became chairs.
Finally waiting for the food diners to come here with something to eat and drink, this small shop in addition to the special stir-fried dishes also has a strange pastry, based on experience, Andy knew that this should be made by fermenting and steaming flour made from the grinding of blade grains, but the taste is strange.... How to say it, although the taste is first-class, but the taste alone has a feeling of eating soil, what is added to this?
A broken glass that I don't know how many hands I used was put aside, although I saw the shopkeeper brush the cup with water with his own hands, but this thing should have been used for too long, and it didn't feel clean at all, and there was still a lot of old dirt sticking to it.
This dirt is related to what the cup often holds. It was a fruit juice made from the fruit of a mutated plant, orange-yellow, and unexpectedly refreshing, sweet, and a little strangely pungent.
There are dishes, staple foods, and even specialty drinks, which are not to mention rare in the Buraku areas where the natives are gathered, and even if they are placed in the wasteland, most areas are relatively good small restaurants.
Of course, it can't be compared to the NcR boom area. Five or six more natives wearing a lot of bone ornaments came up to them, and asked the shopkeeper to serve the food in a very out-of-tune lingua franca, and when they got a response, they sat down beside Andy without seeing a big thorn, and one of the round-bellied fellows wanted to sit with his companions and pushed aside a native, who had been sitting there for a long time to eat.
Under his fierce intimidation, the other party hurriedly picked up the food and turned around and left. An elderly woman with a basket walked over and handed them out some pastries and drinks.
Andy still sat still, the natives didn't do anything after looking at him because of Andy's strong size, and after eating something, the guys began to shout loudly in their own tribal language, and the sound was so noisy.
He sighed slightly, thought for a moment, and opened his hand to grab a handful of dishes from the plate and stuff them into his mouth. No way, cutlery is not provided here at all, and other people's eating methods are also this primitive way of eating, that is, grasping by hand.
Surprisingly, the stir-fry and the strange pastry were mixed together, and the taste was delicious, and after eating, a large sip of juice immediately relieved the oiliness, and although the style of the dish was not too complicated, it was obvious that it was carefully designed.
Just when Andy was immersed in the delicious food and had no time to take care of him, a fierce fight suddenly broke out around him, and when he turned his head, it seemed that finally there was a grumpy native who couldn't stand the noise of the group of guys around him.
In just a few seconds, the two sides escalated from verbal abuse to pushing and beating, and from pushing and beating to a life-and-death fight.
A group of local people who don't think it's a big deal to watch the excitement watched again, and Andy suddenly thought about what the strange taste of this pastry was after eating the last bite of pastry.... How does it feel a bit like concrete.... The shopkeeper had already thrown the frying spoon into the pot and disappeared, and Andy finished eating and drinking, not wanting to deal with the idiots around him, and got up to leave here.
The natives with the ornaments of bones were very brave, and before long they were almost the only ones standing on their side, but the crowd of onlookers parted a gap, and the innkeeper hurried in with a few Hekate hounds.
A gunshot echoed in the air. The red-eyed natives didn't dare to act rashly, and the hounds led by them kicked the dead bodies and half-dead people on the ground, looking at the natives with unkind faces.
"You're doing this kind of thing on Lady Hecate's turf? This is disrespectful to Lord Hecate! The natives trembled with fright, and fell to their knees and begged for forgiveness.
"Except for that fat man!" The hound gave the order, and the natives were dragged away with guns pointed at them, except for the fat man, who was still on his knees and did not dare to move.
"Bring people.... I'm bored—" The fat man stammered and tried to intercede, but was kicked in the face by the hound.
"Go back and tell your chief to come and ransom people with slaves, ten for one, and if you can't get it in a month, these guys will have to be slaves or feed snakes!" Got it? The fat man said yes again and again, and ran away with a roll.
Andy stood by and watched the farce end. A hound suddenly appeared behind him and was about to pat him on the shoulder.
"What? Dan Dai has news? Without waiting for the hand to get closer, Andy asked. The hound retracted his hand in a daze, and pretended to put it to his mouth and coughed.
"Yes, Master Danday has reported your merits and claims to Lady Hecate, who is very interested in you and intends to receive you.... It's a great honor and I hope you'll be prepared. Remembering that you can't do or say anything disrespectful to Ms. Hecate, there were also outsiders who were received by Ms. Hecate not long ago, and as a result, one of them is still locked up in the dungeon, and eighty percent is going to be fed to snakes... You know what I said, right? You're not one of those stupid natives either. Andy nodded indifferently and followed the hound all the way to the vicinity of the Holy Tower.
Danday was already standing there waiting for him, and beside Danday stood a Hecate maid in a hooded robe, but her robe was trimmed not with silver, but with gold.
This is a small square in front of the Holy Tower, surrounded by Hecate hounds, all of whom are well-armed and presumably belong to Hecate's personal guard.
Two very large braziers were placed on either side of the entrance to the Holy Tower, and the two braziers were more than three meters in diameter, and I don't know what was placed in them, and the fire kept burning.
And the black smoke from the flames swirled endlessly in the air, and from a distance it looked like some snakes.
On the ground of the small square, a simple floor is laid, which is said to be a floor, but in fact it is made of leveled stone slabs.
There is a huge Ouroboros pattern in the stone, that is because it is mixed with some colored steel plates of different colors, the selection and placement of these steel plates must have been specially designed, and such a beautiful and shocking totem is cleverly spliced.
Overall, all of this combined with the three-storey tower is a very religious symbolism, and it is by far the only place in Ouroboros that Andy has seen that has been renovated.
"Be careful, be careful in whatever you do and say, you don't just represent yourself, don't let me be ashamed too." Dan Dai admonished solemnly.
"This is Ivana, she is Lady Hekate's most trusted Lady Hekate's maid, and in a moment she will take you into the Holy Tower and to the top floor of Lady Hekate's shrine." The woman in the gold-rimmed robe nodded at Andy, her braided hair peeking out of her hood.
"All in all, be careful what you say and do. Don't look at things you shouldn't be looking at and don't say things you shouldn't be saying when you go in. Danday finally nodded at Ivana and turned away.
After he left, Ivana reached out and made a gesture to follow her, and the two of them entered the metal pyramid one after the other, and the hounds guarding the door were completely unhindered by Ivana's guidance.
The inside of the tower was surprisingly tidy, and Andy could tell that it was supposed to be a building, but now it was covered with a lot of metal
"Ornaments", resulting in a pyramid from the outside. Ivana suddenly stopped, and she took off her hood.
The face hidden in the hood was still covered in black paint as always, but the beauty of those eyes alone moved Andy.
Ivana walked around Andy without saying a word, her eyes staring at Andy almost without emotion.
"Uh... Any questions? "He's a little hairy to look at.
"You're strong, it's a rarity, it's a shame you're not one of us....." She returned to square one, not explaining what she meant at all.
"Follow me, listen to me along the way."
