Chapter 2 First Meeting

Before going to the Hoover Bridge, Andy was still worried about whether he might be detected by the guys guarding the bridge, although that kind of situation is relatively rare, after all, NcR can't have the motivation to post wanted notices everywhere to arrest him, and the original prison attack must still make NcR scratch his head.

Fortunately, the reality was simpler than he thought. There were a number of NcR soldiers guarding the bridge, and several tents were set up at the head of the bridge, with sandbag bunkers stacked next to them, some convenient tables for putting things, and hammocks and chairs for resting.

The soldiers were uniformly dressed in brown and yellow uniforms, with a rudimentary one hanging from their chests

"Body armor", said to be body armor, is actually a layer of steel plate not very thick between the double-headed cowhide.

The two-headed bear pattern printed on the two-headed cowhide clearly reveals the identity of these GIs, who are the symbol and representative of the NcR, the NcR soldiers.

Due to the wind and sand, the soldiers wore cool helmets on their heads and goggles or face bandans around their necks.

They carried black semi-automatic military rifles or common 10mm pistols mounted by the army, military daggers stuck in scabbards at their waists, and some could be seen occasionally carrying grenades.

There weren't too many people coming and going, mostly caravans and solo travelers who went out to hunt for treasures.

Although the situation here seems to be stable, it can be seen from the scorch marks and bullet holes on the bunkers, and even not long ago there was a fierce exchange of fire, Hoover Dam City should be the largest civilization settlement in this area, I believe that whether it is the marauders in the Mojave Desert in the west or the many raiding tribesmen in the east, they can't help but focus on this special place.

Upon getting closer, Andy realizes what Bridges had described in his previous words. The NcR soldiers were indifferent, almost numb, and they were still vigilant, after all, no one wanted to die for slackness in the event of an attack while standing guard, but it was clear that this vigilance had lasted too long and there was no hope of relaxation, so exhaustion was already destroying them.

The arrival of the Atomic Humvee attracted a wave of eyeballs, and several soldiers looked at it for a moment, but after a brief examination, they didn't look too deeply, and just thought it was a car belonging to the Followers of the Apocalypse.

"Be careful when you get on the bridge." A GI wearing goggles speaks to Andy in the cab.

"The bridge is in bad condition, and it has been bombed by terrorists from the Brotherhood of Steel, and although it is lucky that it was not destroyed, it is ....... In short, you are careful when you drive, it's not that no one has ever fallen, those people have fallen straight into a valley hundreds of meters deep, you understand what the result is. He said a few more words without emotion, and it could be seen that it was because of the face of the two followers of the Apocalypse in the car.

The condition of the bridge is really bad, there are many places that have been missing and damaged, and there are signs in front of those large gaps that remind them, but there are many small gaps that are difficult to see from a distance in poor light, and most of them are still large enough for a person to fall off the bridge.

Through a hole in the exposed steel bar, Andy was ashamed to see that the pillars below had collapsed.

"It's such a hell every time I walk this road." Alidean lowered his head and didn't want to look outside, and Bridge seemed to be feeling a little scared, and the feeling of sitting in the car was still not the same as walking.

"The Hoover Dam really needs to open the entrance to the east.... The bridge could break down at any time. Andy carefully stood the car to avoid the death traps that popped up one after another, keeping an eye out for passers-by and caravans of two-headed oxen that were reluctant to move on.

"Impossible, Mayor Dodge won't allow .... Of course, the dignitaries who lived on the west side could not allow it, and they did not need to enter and exit the east frequently, they only cared about distancing themselves from the barbarians in the east, and the only way to open the Hoover Bridge would leave them a buffer. Bridge's view of a huge gap that seemed to pass by, from which the panorama of the Hoover Dam came into view, as if they were flying high in the air, a scene that was both shocking and terrifying.

Andy involuntarily slowed down, and everyone looked in the direction outside, and the dam of amazing size silently exuded a powerful presence.

Andy couldn't help but exclaim.

"This perspective.... It's spectacular. The men watched for a while, then continued to move forward, and finally they crossed the bridge without any danger, and on the west side of the bridge, there were also some NcR soldiers on duty, but the number was obviously much smaller than on the east side of the bridge.

Some of them looked at the Atomic Humvee in surprise, but then simply sat back down with their eyes closed.

After coming off the bridge and driving some distance north, Andy saw the south gate of the city of Hoover Dam, where the wall made of metal waste and construction debris had a striking entrance, and two towers welded from various scrap metal were distributed on both sides of the gate, the heavy gate was a reinforced concrete slab covered with iron sheets, and there were two huge wheels underneath.

Predictably, in the event of an attack, the two heavy gates would be immediately closed, and the sentries on the towers would then return fire with their guns against the bunkers and the shooting holes above.

The gates were littered with potholes and scorch marks, silently telling of how many horrific attacks had been on the place.

The sentries in the tower scanned all those who came in and out with sharp eyes, holding in their hands and carrying behind their backs powerful sniper rifles or carbines of proven accuracy.

If that wasn't enough to deter outsiders, the automatic turrets at the edge of the towers were already a clear threat, the white automatic turrets vibrating and emitting a slight black smoke, and their combat identification devices would immediately and unreservedly unapologetic to unreservedly unleash bullets as soon as they determined that there was a hostile target below.

There are four such killing machines.

"We need to hurry, it's going to be closed at night, and no one will let them in." Bridge, who was sitting in the passenger seat, said anxiously that if they couldn't get in tonight, they would have to sleep in the car again, and he had had enough of this in the past few days

"Rest". Above the gate was a metal trestle that connected the two towers on the left and right, and as the striking Atomic Humvee approached, the heavily armed GIs immediately questioned him.

"Who?" He clenched the weapon in his hand, and it looked like he could fire at any moment. Bridge immediately got out of the car and explained to the soldier, which made the soldiers' expressions slower slightly, and some people looked at Andy who was hiding his head twice, but he didn't pay much attention to it.

Because of the natural environment, most people wear protective gear to protect their eyes and face when they go out.

"Come on in, your old fellows are speculating if you've been killed by the natives if you haven't come back for so long! I'm sure Dr. Yuri, they'll be glad to see you. The GI, who seemed to have some friendship with Bridge, briefly chatted with him, then returned to the tower and let Andy and the others go, and they were able to officially enter the interior of Hoover Dam City.

This is the western shore of the Black Canyon, and the main body of the Hoover Dam is in the eastern valley, and the white concrete gives the canyon a long flat surface space covered in black and red stones.

Some of the outbuildings that were originally part of the pre-war Hoover Dam are scattered in front, and most of them are cylindrical.

Andy parked the car and several people got out of the car. There are a lot of people on the streets, some of them setting up stalls to do business, and some of them are walking silently and alone with heavy bags, not knowing where they are going.

Shacks of all sizes and shapes are next to each other, and the buildings built by the post-war wastelanders from recycled garbage look like they are sheltered from the wind and rain, but the neat and clean pre-war buildings are not qualified to use.

here

On the "shore" there are two more conspicuous white concrete columns, one large and one small, which Andy does not know what was used for the purpose of the building, which may have been used by the original staff of the Hoover Dam.

Bridge noticed Andy staring at the two conspicuous buildings.

"That's the military headquarters of the Hoover Dam, the larger one that's surrounded by barbed wire fences with barbed hooks, and the smaller one is City Hall. The servicemen lived in the military headquarters, where they ate, rested, and trained, and the Dodge mayor lived in it; As for the town hall, that's where the city councillors meet under the auspices of the mayor. ”
