Chapter 4: Dust Footprints
Ren Qiushi discovered a key clue, through which the murderer's DNA can be directly determined, and then the murderer's identity can be locked.
But at the scene of a case, these are not enough. The truth of the case may not be as simple as we think, so we must have enough clues to bring important evidence to our case detection work.
Ren Qiushi and Zeng Lan's on-site preliminary autopsies are continuing.
The two most important tasks of a medical examiner are to determine the cause of death and the time of death.
"The body was highly decomposed, and there was no way to tell some of the injuries by the surface of the body." Zeng Lan muttered.
"Yes, the scars that appear on the surface of the body, such as restraint wounds, coercion injuries, and resistance injuries, will disappear as the corpse decomposes." Ren Qiushi let out a long sigh.
In the absence of these important marks of trauma, there is no way to obtain from the body the nature of the case, especially the relationship between the murderer and the deceased, whether they had engaged in a fight, whether the murderer had committed violence against the deceased, and whether she had limited her mobility.
These are all unknowns.
Since the reality is already like this, it is useless to complain, and you can only look for more valuable clues through the existing situation.
Ren Qiushi habitually pulled the rubber gloves, reached out and directly grabbed a maggot in the deceased's nose, and took out a ruler from the survey box to measure the maggot.
Flies have a very keen sense of smell, and after a person dies, within a few hours an insect will parasitize the corpse.
Flies are more common, and if the carcass is outside, there will be other outdoor insects.
The growth process of flies is generally that the eggs hatch into larvae, the larvae pupate, and the pupa grows into newborn flies.
During the period when the body is not found, the cycle repeats itself. Flies are particularly fond of incubating eggs in the holes of carcasses, especially on the face and wounds.
Therefore, Ren Qiushi used the maggots in the nasal cavity of the deceased as the object of observation, and tried to deduce the time of death of the deceased through the degree of nutrition and growth of the maggots that first appeared on the corpse.
Normally, if the temperature conditions are right, the eggs will hatch after 8 to 14 hours and the first maggots will appear.
The first stage of development will last 8 to 14 hours, and then the maggots will peel off. This process of peeling takes two to three days, after which the maggots turn milky white.
In the next stage of development, these milky maggots will frantically eat the corpse, eat it violently for about six days, and then transfer from the corpse to the ground, where they pupate, and the general cycle from laying eggs to pupating is eight days.
After another 12 days after pupation, it can turn into a fly. The temperature is above 30 degrees, and maggots can grow 0.2 to 0.3 centimeters per day on the carcasses.
A large number of flies were not found at the scene of the crime, but a large number of maggots were found. It means that the time of death will not be too long, but it will be at least a week.
The conditions at the scene were poor, and there was no way to conduct a high-precision autopsy, so when Zeng Lan was observing maggots in Ren Qiushi, he had already taken tweezers and put more than a dozen maggots into the evidence bag.
Ren Qiushi looked at Zeng Lan's calm appearance and smiled faintly. He was wearing protective clothing and a thick mask, such a micro-expression Zeng Lan couldn't notice at all.
He couldn't help but think of Zeng Lan's internship at the beginning, when she went out to survey the corpse of the high-rotten giant outside the room, she couldn't bear the crazy retching, especially when the corpse of the giant temple exploded, she ran to the side and vomited.
This is the growth experience of a forensic doctor, any psychological construction is useless, what is useful is two words - habit.
The preliminary autopsy at the scene is almost complete, and it is difficult to get any clues from the corpse other than the autopsy.
But at this moment, the technical team found some clues.
It's the height of summer, the weather is hot and dry, there has been no rain recently, and the village is full of dust and floating dirt.
In this environment, it is most likely to leave dust footprints.
Especially on the indoor floor in rural areas, whether it is a tile floor or a concrete floor, it will leave an attached dust footprint.
The technical team found some dust footprints at the site with a wide side light source.
These footprints are relatively scattered, and relatively complete, under the professional on-site investigation instrument, although there is no way to see the lines clearly, but the size of the footprints is still relatively intuitive.
The technical team immediately took pictures of the dust footprints in the room, and then extracted the footprints.
With the size and model of the shoe sample, plus the distance of the stride, and the size of the dust accumulation in the footprint, it is an important clue for the trace inspection work.
The trace examination department can use these to determine the murderer's walking posture, behavior, and even living habits.
Most importantly, it can be reinstated about the deceased's height, weight, and even whether they had a leg disease.
Combined with the DNA of the murderer, especially the relatively closed environment of the village, where there is almost no movement of people, we can quickly identify the suspect through this evidence.
In addition to this, we have also conducted investigations into other items in the room where the crime occurred.
Professional things are done by professional people, the forensic doctor is responsible for the autopsy, Jiang Tingbai is responsible for leading the team for trace examination, and Xue Hang is observing the structure of the house and the nearby route, predicting the route of the murderer to enter the crime scene.
Then Li Meng and I, as well as Lin Zifan, have to look for some clues from the overall situation.
We examined the deceased's personal belongings, the deceased was naked, his underwear was thrown at the head of the bed, and his coat was hung on the hanger on the wall.
This bedroom is still relatively large, and the furniture is readily available, judging from the layout and furnishings of the room, this should be her personal bedroom. A lot of the things in the room are clearly feminine, such as some warm colors, some dolls, especially the dresser.
A village like Xinchuan Village, which is close to the urban area, is not poor, and the deceased's family is still relatively well-off.
There are no farming tools in the yard, no poultry and livestock, and no crops in the barn, indicating that the family must have a legitimate and stable job, rather than farming for a living.
Li Meng opened the lady's backpack hanging at the door, which contained a wallet, two bank cards, and a few hundred yuan in cash.
On the table next to it, there was a new mobile phone and some change.
"This mobile phone, even if it is second-hand, can be sold for thousands of dollars." Lin Zifan looked at the phone and said lightly.
"It seems that the murderer is not trying to kill for money." I said in a deep voice.
"The possibility of acquaintances committing crimes, rape and murder, and love murder is very high." Li Meng looked at the corpse on the bed and said seriously.
