The meaning of this passage in Mencius is: Shun was used from the cultivation of the fields, Fu Shuo was used from the labor of building walls, rubber was used from selling fish and salt, Guan Yiwu was rescued from the prison officials and was appointed, Sun Shuao was used from the seclusion of the sea, and Baili Xi was redeemed from the slave market and used. Therefore, in order to entrust a man with a heavy burden from Heaven, he must first make his mind distressed, his muscles and bones tired, so that he starve, his body is empty and weak, and every action he does not fulfill, so as to motivate his mind, make him stoic, and increase his abilities that he does not possess. A person often makes mistakes, so that they can be corrected later, confused in the heart, and blocked in thought. Only then can you know that something has been done, and that the anger of others is expressed in the face, and the resentment is spit out in the words, and then you can be known. If a country does not have ministers who hold fast to the law at home and wise men who can assist the king, and if there is no country with equal strength abroad to resist and calamities from abroad, such a country will often perish. In this way, we will know that worrying about calamity can make people (or countries) survive and develop, and that comfort and pleasure can lead people (or countries) to destruction.

No pain, no gain. The examples cited by Mencius are Emperor Shun, Fu Shuo, Jiao Qi, Guan Zhong, Sun Shuao, and Baili Xi.

And Sima Qian himself was punished by the palace for justifying the defeat of Li Ling, and later served as the Zhongshu Order, and worked hard to continue to complete the "Taishi Gongshu", which was praised by Lu Xun as "the swan song of the historian, and the rhyme of the separation". The reason why this is so is precisely because they are in the midst of adversity, their hearts are depressed, they rise up, and they are born after death.

As for those who died in peace, the mediocre kings of the past generations died of debauchery and pleasure, and the examples are too numerous to mention.

Therefore, adversity and sorrow are not necessarily bad things in a person's life. Adversity produces talents, and the children of the poor are in charge early. Pampered and mistaken for many people, never a great man with trousers. Wen Yuan only raises golden jade leaves, and the wind, frost, rain and dew urge the branches. Life is ultimately an experience. Therefore, the experience of adversity and sorrow is often a valuable asset in life. When you look back, you can proudly and gratifyingly say, "Everything has been experienced, everything has come through!" People have to boil, and wells have to be cleaned. I finally got through it! Isn't this kind of life much richer and therefore more rewarding than those lives that have been smooth sailing, have no hardships, and have no special experiences? The so-called "no one can see a rainbow without experiencing wind and rain, and no one can succeed casually." "After hardships, it will be more magnificent.

Perhaps because of this, Ye Wuwu turned a blind eye to the disasters and blows he had endured in the past, "If you can endure it, you will be a hero, and if you can cross the sea, you will be an immortal", and he should use this to test his will and enrich his experience.
