815, Tubo Dynasty

The Tibetans were a barbaric mixed people, a slave regime established on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in the late Sui and early Tang dynasties. By the time of Songtsen Gampo Ren Zangpu, Tubo set its capital to Lhasa and began to become strong. In the fourteenth year of Zhenguan (640), Songtsen Gampo proposed to the Tang Dynasty, but Tang Taizong did not agree, and then married Princess Wencheng.

In the early years of Gaozong Xianheng, the Tubo slave owners and nobles opened up their borders, occupied the hometown of Tuyuhun (now the western part of Qinghai), and marched into the interior of the Tang Dynasty. After the Anshi Rebellion in the 14th year of Tianbao (755), the Tang Dynasty's border soldiers were transferred to quell the rebellion, and the Tibetans took advantage of the weakness to attack. Dunhuang was the Shazhou governance office at that time, and in the first year of the Great Calendar (766), the new Hexi Jiedu made Yang Xiuming lose Liangzhou and move to Shazhou. Later, Ganzhou (Zhangye, Gansu), Suzhou (Jiuquan, Gansu, Gansu Province is known as the merged abbreviation of Ganzhou and Suzhou). ), Guazhou (Jinchang, in the southeast of Anxi, Gansu. Successively occupied by Tibet, Dunhuang was surrounded on all sides, and was completely cut off from the interior of the war, but it was still holding on to the war of resistance. This poem contains these glorious histories, which fully reflects the strong patriotic enthusiasm and fighting spirit of the people of Dunhuang in the fierce struggle between the Tang Dynasty and Tibet. They eagerly awaited: 'Sooner or later, the wolves will be destroyed, and they will worship the holy face together.' This 'holy face' also refers to the Son of Heaven and the Emperor. In feudal society, the emperor was the symbol of the country, and this idea of loyalty to the monarch and serving the country often burst out with a huge fighting spirit at that time, dominating people to carry out heroic and tenacious struggles. Therefore, the fighting spirit expressed in the poem "Bodhisattva Man" did not disappear because Shazhou was captured by Tubo.

According to the "New Tang Dynasty Book: The Biography of Tubo", "The people of the state are all vassals, worship their fathers and ancestors every year, wear Chinese clothes, and hide them in mourning." This shows that the people of Dunhuang, who were forced to submit to Tibet at that time, have never forgotten their attachment and love for the Central Plains.

After more than 60 years, in the early years of Xuanzong's middle school, Dunhuang produced another 'god general' Zhang Yichao, led the people of Shazhou to recover the land of Shazhou, Gua, Yi, Xi, Gan, Su, Lan, Shan, He, Min, and Kuo, in the fifth year of Dazhong (851), and sent envoys to Tang Xuanzong to dedicate the books of 11 states, so that the vast area of Hehuang returned to Tang.

This poem "Bodhisattva Man" expresses the indignation of the division of the territory of Tibet, and expresses a sincere yearning for the great unification of the situation of harmony and discharge. His words are simple and emotional, sincere, and exciting, and they are first-class masterpieces that have gained a lofty position in the history of words.
