502. Odyssey
"It's a good time to choose, the tides, the wind direction, the sunshine. Everything is just right! The sea waits neither for men nor for women. β
Barnabas stood next to the command seat and sighed.
He was now Kassandra's nautical advisor.
The bow of the Adrestia cleaved the waves, and the smashed waves splashed a large cloud of mist droplets, making the people on deck feel clear and cheerful in the Aegean sun.
Unlike the day he was rescued, Barnabas no longer looked like a drowning cat.
His long, thick hair was combed back to his head, and his beard was cut out and carefully tied. He became a handsome uncle, looking strong and resolute.
He shouted to his men, "Paddle the oars and lower the sails." β
So the crew climbed the mast like squirrels and pulled the ropes. As the distant thunderous roar drew closer, the white sails of the Adelestia tumbled across the mast, revealing its crimson eagle crest. The sails swelled like a giant's chest against the strong wind, and the sailboat flew eastward.
"So, where are we going?" Barnabas asked Kassandra, who felt that everything was new and interesting, while directing.
"Where do the great Kassandra and Lane want to go in this vast and beautiful world?"
Lan En's hand that had been held in front of his chest waved forward, as if to drive away the fleshy compliment.
Although Barnabas was probably sincere, he still didn't quite fit in.
Fauber, on the other hand, seemed excited about it.
Kassandra, on the other hand, did not hesitate: "Megaris." We're going to Megaris. β
"Megaris. Of course, Kassandra. I make a promise to the gods to be loyal to my friendsβyou and Lane. Even if you ask me to sail to Tartarus, I will not hesitate for half a second. But I still have to ask a question."
He stared ahead of the ship, the vast waters of the Gulf of Corinthia.
"Why? In the vast world I can take you to, why do you choose this mud pit alone? β
"Because there's a big bounty from Kassandra there. And that's my bargaining chip to find the enemy. β
Lan explained calmly on the side.
"But that's the center of the war, Lanne!" Barnabas admonished solemnly.
"The land of Megaris was dotted with the Spartan phalanx, and the waters were surrounded by the Athenian fleet. The latter doesn't pose any problems, because although the Adrestia is a weather-beaten boat, she is fast, can steer nimbly, and has sharp ramming angles. β
"But even so, the timing of our landing was extremely poor, and rumors that Pericles would lead the Athenian army into Megaris and attack the Spartan garrison were increasing. What kind of wealth is worthy of us to set foot in such a war-torn land at such a time? β
"Wait!" Before Kassandra could respond, Lane suddenly spoke as if he had heard some keyword.
"You say 'Perikles'?! What was the name of the consul of Athens? β
"Of course, who else could it be!"
Pericles, the father of democracy, was a statesman who promoted democracy in the city-state of Athens in ancient Greece.
Although Len is not familiar with the history of ancient Greece, the name is one that cannot be avoided in history anyway.
And judging by the life of Perikles
In Lan's brain, Mentos instantly sorted out the information in his memory and marked a few words in red.
Peloponnesian War!
Lan's eyes narrowed slightly, and since he came here, he had heard people talking about 'this war', 'cruel war' and the like.
At first, he thought it was just a manifestation of the chaos of the early civilizations.
Fights were fought every three or five times, which was not uncommon in BC.
But only now did he know exactly what 'this war' was all about.
It was a war between Sparta and Athens, two alliance of two city-states that raged for decades and stirred up the entire Greek world!
I am in the middle of a definite and influential period of history.
This kind of current situation rolling in the tide of history makes Lan En feel very strange.
"I'm going to get the head of a Spartan general in Megaris."
Kassandra looked at the stunned Lanne, and then answered Barnabas's question herself.
The nearby crew gasped in shock.
"My employer wants me to kill the general known as the Spartan Blood Wolf."
"Sparta's Blood Wolf?" Barnabas smiled wryly, "You've got a tough job. I have heard that Nicolaeus of Sparta had iron-beaten shoulders and even slept with a spear in his hand and one eye open. His guards are like demons......"
Kassandra didn't hear what Barnabas said afterwards, her eyes suddenly lost their focus when she heard the name, as if she were caught in some kind of memory or distraction.
Keen to spot this, Ryan gently walked over to Kassandra's side and grabbed her shoulders to keep her from stumbling on the undulating deck.
"What's wrong with you?"
He whispered to Kassandra and waved to the unknown crew members so they didn't have to panic.
Fubo next to him was also worried.
And this woman, who has always been strong and confident, softened in Lan En's arms as if she had been drained of her heart at this time.
But only a little.
The next moment, Kassandra was strong and powerful again, and she reached out and patted Rann on her arm, and she stood on her feet. Something sharp and tough in his eyes was even more blazing.
"Take me to Megaris at once, right now."
Kassandra's tone was flat, but unmistakable.
"But I still don't understand why we have to risk our lives to go there when there are so many places under the light of Helios, the god of the sun?"
"Because of the Spartan Blood Wolves." Kassandra whispered, "He's my father. β
"My father who once threw me off a cliff."
For this reason, there is no one who can say anything.
Barnabas began to draw the course, and Lane and Fauber stood quietly on the side.
Stories of blood relatives killing each other, blood relatives killing each other, and blood relatives entangled and painful because of their unpredictable fate have been deeply rooted in the culture of Greece with the spread of songs, legends, and myths.
In the minds of all Greeks, this was a journey that even the gods should not have to stand in the way.
"Ah, Kephallonia, I remember."
Suddenly, Rann whispered beside Kassandra.
"Odysseus set out for his homeland after the Battle of Troy, his home was Kephallonia, and his journey became known as the 'Odyssey.'"
"And now, you're going to start from his finish line and go to your own 'Odyssey,' Kassandra."
