Chapter 373: Changing Hands

Since June, two regimes that call themselves "socialist," both armies with red flags, have been fighting across a vast expanse stretch stretching from the Sea of Japan in the east to Central Asia in the west.

The "Battle of Yaisan" on July 17, 1918 was the first division-scale field battle between two armies with red flags, and the results of the battle surprised many military experts. An elite cavalry corps on the Red Russian side was completely wiped out, and according to post-war statistics, more than 27,200 people under the commander of the Russian army, the commander of the Central Asian Front, Frunze, were killed, 2,230 were captured, and less than 200 escaped. On the Chinese side, the 123rd Motorized Infantry Division suffered minimal losses, 54 killed, more than 170 wounded, 6 armored vehicles destroyed, and another 28 vehicles were damaged at various lengths.

After this battle, the Chinese army took advantage of the situation to attack the weak Orenburg. On July 20, the 123rd and 122nd Divisions conquered the area and annihilated two of the defenders. On the same day, the six main divisions of the Northern Cluster, with the coordination of aircraft, forced their way across the Uil River and routed the four Russian infantry divisions defending the place.

On July 25, the Russian army's defense line on the Ural River was broken through by the People's Liberation Army, and seven divisions of more than 100,000 ironclad divisions rushed across the Ural River, a natural dividing line between Asia and Europe. By mid-August, China had taken control of all of the area south of the Kama River and east of the Volga River, bordering the Russian-controlled Ufa region. Not only occupied all of the former "Alash Autonomous Republic", but also robbed some more interest, such as Cherny, Samara and other important cities, Hongmaozi lost a lot this time.

However, there was good news for the Red Russians, as the White Army of Denikin, who had been entrenched in the Caucasus, was finally completely defeated by them at the end of July, and according to the agreement between China and Belarus, Denikin retreated into the Turkish-controlled South Caucasus with more than 70,000 remnants of his defeated army and more than 500,000 supporters. They surrendered to the Turkish army, and after being disarmed, they were sent to Persia by the Turks. Then he rested in a refugee camp prepared in Persia and gradually moved from the Eurasian railway to Siberia, which was controlled by Belarus.

The 20 divisions freed up by the Red Russians hurried north to set up defenses on the west bank of the Volga and the north bank of the Kama River. And the 15 divisions they formed in the rear also ended their reorganization ahead of schedule and were hurried to the front.

Although the Chinese attack was very smooth, it was like mercury pouring down and the momentum was like a bamboo. However, the results of this kind of tyrannical and brutal bombing are based on the huge consumption of materials, and the higher the mechanization process, the higher the synthesis of the army, the more strictly dependent on logistics. And the current traffic situation in Kazakhstan is very poor, and there is simply no guarantee of the continuation of such a high-attrition operation.

So after hitting the Volga, the Chinese army also stopped advancing. In the previous battle, they had already consumed a large amount of ammunition and supplies with the army, and if there were two more large-scale battles, the chariots and artillery would have to run out of food. And the Red Russia was also completely hurt in the previous battle, they lost a full 15 divisions, which are all elites drawn from all sides, and after these mobile forces are finished, the Red Russia's heart hurts. Therefore, they did not dare to take the initiative to attack, but were afraid that China would fight over, so they desperately repaired fortifications west of the Volga River.

Since mid-August, the armies of the two sides have faced off across the rivers of the Volga and Kama rivers. At this time, both sides have no intention of continuing to fight, China has eaten too much, and for the time being, it is already satisfied, and it is ready to harvest when it is good, and digest the fruits of victory. And the Red Russia is now full of holes in the country, there is still a debt to Germany and Austria outside, and there is a White Russia on the side, so it does not want to provoke another opponent no matter what.

Mr. Ulyanov, the leader of the Red Russia, was worthy of being a great man of his generation, and immediately sent People's Commissar for Foreign Affairs Kamenev to Hanjing for peace talks. He also sent someone to contact Friedrich Ebert, the leader of the German Social Democratic Party, and asked him to intervene to help the two sides mediate. The German Social Democratic Party is an important member of the Second International, has a good relationship with the Chinese Science and Technology Socialist Party, and the two sides have frequent exchanges, and the leader of the party, Albert, is called "an old friend of the Chinese people" by General Wen. By the way, on the time and space when Wendesi came, this guy was the first president of the Weimar government in Germany.

However, their relations with the Russian Cloth Party were not good, and Ulyanov openly accused them of betraying the "principles of proletarian internationalism", calling them "traitors", "thieves", "opportunists", and so on. But now the desperate Cloth Party has no choice but to pinch its nose and ask these "traitors" to be mediators. You can't invite those imperialist countries, can you?

Comrade Albert was quite generous, and after receiving Ulyanov's request, he took a plane to Turkey on the same day, then transferred to Persia, and traveled all the way to Hanjing. Wendesi also gave Albert face, and met him at the presidential palace on the same day.

After greeting each other for a while, Albert turned to the topic: "Wen, the war between your country and Soviet Russia is a regrettable war, and the same socialist regime should not kill each other. "Both of them are old acquaintances, and they are not exchanges between countries, so they call each other less formally.

Wendeji shook his head: "No, no, no, Friedrich, you are not right. We are an imperialist regime, but Soviet Russia is not socialism either, they claim to be a communist-proletarian-socialist regime, and until now, we have not recognized them as the legitimate regime of Russia......" Mr. Wen's tone carried a hint of sarcasm.

"Hahahaha......" Albert laughed as well, remembering the Cloth Party's attack on him. After laughing for a while, he still said with a straight face: "Wen, you are angry, of course, Ulyanov They are indeed too extreme, and it is normal for you to be angry." However, although you both have great ideological differences, after all, you both belong to the socialist camp, and it is a pity that there is a war between you. This would weaken the socialist camp. ”

"Friedrich, this war was not provoked by us, I am a pacifist, I don't like war the most, but sometimes I have to fight the war I hate the most......" Wende said sternly: "We bought Central Asia from the Russian Empire at our expense, but they sent troops to brazenly invade the territory that is about to be handed over to us, this is shameless aggression!

"Well, of course, this is the fault of the Cloth Party in the first place, and they have admitted this, and they are willing to apologize for the incident and provide compensation......" As for the fact that the Chinese army has now fled to Europe, Albert pretended not to know.

"Since that's the case, we're not unreasonable people, for your sake, I can agree to peace talks, but they must compensate us for our losses!"

So now it is good to make Soviet Russia admit defeat and let them agree to cede land and pay reparations. Well, there is no need for reparations, Soviet Russia is now so poor that it is almost like pants, and it can't squeeze much oil and water, but this land must be cut, and we don't want more, just divide it with the current occupation. How can there be a reason not to bleed after losing a battle?

As for whether Soviet Russia would agree? Wen Deji never worried about this issue.

In the Soviet-Polish War in the original time and space, Soviet Russia only lost 150,000 troops before admitting defeat, and also ceded the elite areas of Western Ukraine and Western Belarus to Poland. Now they have lost at least 200,000 troops, and all of them are the main elite, and tens of thousands of them are captured in his hands. At present, China's land belonging to Russia is only more than 140,000 square kilometers (Orenburg Oblast at this time belongs to the Kazakh region), and it is estimated that they have to pinch their noses and admit it.

..................................................................

On August 25, 1918, China and Soviet Russia signed a peace treaty in Samara. The main contents are:

1. The two sides shall cease fire on the same day, restore a state of peace, and return the prisoners of war. The Russians promised to withdraw all the Red Army guerrilla and cloth organizations that were still in the Chinese-controlled areas, and China agreed to provide them with access to their homeland...... 2. Soviet Russia apologized to China for sending troops to Central Asia and promised that similar incidents would not happen again. 3. The land purchased by China from the Russian Empire was recognized by Soviet Russia. China has also pledged not to intervene directly in the Russian civil war. 4. The border between China and Soviet Russia shall be subject to the actual control line. 5. Soviet Russia shall return all confiscated Chinese industries within its jurisdiction, apologize to relevant enterprises and private individuals and compensate for economic losses, and guarantee that similar incidents will not occur again. The two sides resumed normal trade exchanges.

Paradoxically, the two parties to the treaty were not signed in the name of the state, but in the name of the political party, and even the notary was Friedrich Ebert, the leader of the German Social Democratic Party. There is no way, now China does not recognize Soviet Russia as a country, and naturally it cannot sign a treaty with the other party in the name of the country. So he simply signed this treaty with the Russian Cloth Party in the name of the Chinese Science and Technology Party.

As for the legitimacy of the treaty, this is not a problem at all, only the fist is big enough, even if it is signed in a private capacity. Besides, if you use a rogue's words, this treaty is meant to be torn up, under any name.

The atmosphere in which the contract was signed was very dull, neither side made a lot of hype, Soviet Russia did not want to lose face, and China had other plans.

The truce between China and Red Russia has disappointed many countries. Especially the White Russia, originally they wanted to take the opportunity to pick up some cheap, but they didn't expect that China would not give them this opportunity at all, and they were not ready for a new offensive, and China and Red Russia ceased fire. Although neither side has publicly publicized it, this kind of thing will certainly not be hidden from those who have a good intention, and China has not deliberately kept it secret.

After the peace talks with Soviet Russia, Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Lu Zhengxiang immediately approached White Russia and expressed his willingness to transfer the territory obtained from Red Russia to White Russia. Lao Lu said that in principle, China can hand over about 100,000 square kilometers of territory north of the Great Irgiz River to Belarus. Of course, this territory is also hard worked by us, and it is impossible to give it for nothing, so that's it, you can exchange the remaining Yakutia region and Irkutsk region.

The rest of the Yakutia region and the Irkutsk region are of course much larger, but they are basically barren, permafrost or something, the population is small, and most of them are not Russians. The land that China took out is the essence of Russia, and Cherny, Samara, and Balakovo are all important cities, and it would be great if they could be returned to their hands. There is no comparison between the territory of Eastern Europe and the territory of Siberia, and now the territory demanded by China is not as large as the population of Samara alone.

Well, China is not just talking, I don't know from that pile of old papers turned out a record of the talks of the "Treaty of Nebuchu", which was the first to put forward a plan of "taking Ya as the boundary", and this "Ya" refers to Yakutia. Of course, this plan did not work out in the end. As for whether this statement is valid or not, it does not matter, it is nothing more than a step for Belarus.

In the end, after several days of discussions, the Belarusian top brass finally agreed to the Chinese exchange plan, and of course there was some bargaining. The Chinese side made some concessions, conceding an extra few thousand square kilometers on the Eastern European side, moving the border south to 10 kilometers south of "Red Kut", and handing over to Belarus this small town founded by Ukrainian immigrants in 1837 and all the former Russian territory north of it. And Russia also handed over the remaining Yakutia region to China. The Irkutsk region was not delivered, after all, the territory on the Trans-Siberian Railway still had some value, they kept the part west of Ust-Kut and north of the Trans-Siberian Railway, and the rest was given to China in exchange.

As for the more than 20,000 square kilometers of territory in the lower reaches of the Volga River that China still occupies, Bai Maozi didn't ask very interestingly, they are now a backer of China, and they dare not offend. However, in order to appease them, China also took the initiative to promise to forgive the debt of 30 million Chinese yuan as the purchase fee of the land. Well, it's the more than 200 million yuan they owed before.

Well, in fact, Wen always wanted this place, the main purpose is to maintain a border with Red Russia, so that it is convenient to do business in the future. The second is to have one more source of water.

After the red and white hairs were settled, China handed over the land to Belarus and continued to receive territory in Central Asia. Central Asia is so big that although there are few defenders in various places, the area is there, and it will take a lot of time just to march. As a result, it was not until the end of August that the PLA fully occupied Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and western Uzbekistan (which had previously only secured lines of communication and important strongholds, and many places had not been managed). Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and eastern Uzbekistan, because they are in the Pamirs, will not be fully occupied until mid-September. Of course, according to the usual practice, in the places occupied along the way, the "law and order maintenance committee" and the "self-protection army" were immediately established, and the purge was also to be carried out.

Uh, you ask, didn't the Red Army withdraw? Yes, they did carry out their promise in the contract and evacuated all the guerrilla and party organizations and their families who were still active in the Outer Northeast and Central Asia. At present, there are no Red Russians on China's territory, with the exception of spies, of course, no one will admit such a thing. But who said that the "Security Maintenance Association" and the "Self-Protection Army" were specifically aimed at dealing with the Red Army? Can't they do anything else? The target of the purge is not just the Red Russia.
