Chapter Twenty-Three: A Dreamlike Reality
The middle-aged gentleman in a black top hat and gold wire monocle saw that Arthur was unresponsive, so he repeated his question.
"Excuse me, is it Officer Arthur Hastings?"
Arthur turned slowly, and he noticed the familiar faces of the other man.
"You're looking for me?"
The middle-aged gentleman smiled and took off the white glove in his right hand and stretched out his hand to Arthur: "Not looking for you, but waiting for you." β
Arthur held the other party's hand in a trance: "Have you waited for me for a long time?" β
"Soon." The middle-aged gentleman smiled: "It's only been two days, I thought you wouldn't come back." β
"Two days?" Arthur asked, "What are you waiting for me to do?" β
The middle-aged gentleman beckoned to the servant behind him, and soon, a document was delivered to him.
The middle-aged gentleman smiled and lifted the document and shook it in front of Arthur: "You see, of course I sent you a letter of thanks from the police." β
When Arthur heard this, he smiled helplessly: "You should know that I am no longer a policeman." β
"It doesn't matter."
After that, the middle-aged gentleman asked again: "If you don't mind, can you come with me, I still have some gifts in the back, I hope to give them to you." Even though you have decided to leave your job, I would like to express my gratitude to the people of London for your impartial enforcement. β
Arthur wanted to refuse, but the Red Devil suddenly reappeared.
Agareth knocked on the side and said, "Arthur, even if you can go to America with your ten pounds of savings, you won't have much left when you get there." Accept His gift, you deserve it! You still have to eat, I don't want you to starve to death on the streets, a villain of your level is too hard to find these days. β
When Arthur heard this, he also felt that what Agareth said made sense.
So after hesitating for a moment, he accepted the middle-aged gentleman's request.
"Thank you so much for your kind donation, I may really need this gift right now."
The middle-aged gentleman just smiled, and instead of speaking, he led Arthur to the platform to the second floor.
Just as Arthur was puzzled, the middle-aged gentleman suddenly turned around and spoke to everyone behind him.
Recently, the Adam Evans theft case, which was supervised by the Metropolitan Police Department, has attracted wide attention from the citizens of London and the British public.
The Times, The Manchester Guardian and other well-known media have published reports about the outstanding performance of Officer Arthur Hastings, a Greenwich Constable in Scotland Yard, in the magistrate's court, and the citizens of London have praised Officer Arthur's behavior.
Such an act has also sparked widespread discussion among MPs in the House of Commons, and the Supreme Court has also issued calls for amending the Bloody Bill.
And all of this is thanks to the tireless struggle and efforts of Officer Arthur Hastings.
Officer Arthur's performance in the magistrate's court was exemplary, establishing an image of the public as a righteous, glorious and responsible police officer.
He perfectly adhered to the historical tradition and professional norms of 'the police are the public, and the public is the police' in the "Police Instruction".
And this is exactly what Scotland Yard has been tirelessly pursuing since its establishment.
Therefore......"
The middle-aged gentleman unfolded the documents in his hand at everyone and announced loudly.
"Robert Peele, Minister in charge of the Home Office of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland and Chief Executive of Scotland Yard, reads hereby Order No. 23 of the Home Office of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland for this year.
After discussion at the internal executive meeting of the Ministry of Home Affairs, combined with the joint recommendation of the five police district inspectors of the Greater London Metropolitan Police, the strong voice of the general public of London is respected.
After careful consideration, the Home Office has decided, in exercise of its powers under the Internal Regulations, to formally dismiss the resignation of Arthur Hastings, Inspector of Greenwich District of the London Metropolitan Police Force.
Arthur Hastings was also promoted to Superintendent of Greenwich Police District, East London Region, Metropolitan Police, with 4 sub-station sergeants and 144 patrol officers, supervising and managing four patrol districts including E1, E2, E3 and E4.
This resolution shall take effect immediately from the date of issuance of the Executive Order. β
As soon as Sir Peel's words fell, a uniform standing sound erupted in the chamber.
Arthur turned around in a trance, and he saw his colleagues all facing in his direction, one by one standing like a sharp sword.
"Salute to the Metropolitan Police of Greater London, Arthur Hastings!"
With a hula, countless hands were raised to the tips of their eyebrows, and their movements were uniform.
Arthur felt like his mind was a mess, even when he faced Willocks' attack just now, he wasn't so weak that he needed to hold on to the handrail of the stairs beside him to stand.
But even though he had no strength, he still used the last bit of strength in his body to raise his hand to the tip of his eyebrows.
He saluted as standard as his colleagues.
Sir Peel smiled and handed the letter of appointment to Arthur, who was in a trance.
"Officer Arthur, if you do not agree with our decision to reject your resignation, you can also go to the civil court to sue the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Of course, I don't want to see that happen. In the best case, I hope you can take this letter of appointment for the sake of my friend's face. β
A sergeant carrying three V-sign epaulettes walked up the stairs with a brand-new police uniform and epaulettes inlaid with three Bass stars and stood in front of Arthur.
He first saluted Arthur with a serious face, and then said in a loud voice.
"Welcome home! Sir! β
Arthur's hand hovered over the familiar police uniform, and he hesitated for a moment, but finally pressed his sweaty palm against the badge of the Metropolitan Police Department in Greater London.
Seeing this, the policemen who stood up and saluted finally couldn't contain their excitement, and they cheered and crushed the newspapers on the table and threw them into the sky.
Fragments of newspapers fell like snowflakes in every corner of the office.
But from the fragments of the mutilated newspaper, Arthur still managed to make out some of the headlines and content.

- The Duke of Wellington: Thank you to my friend Peel for his support of the bill, he has done a lot in the House of Commons.

He muttered, "Oh my God, am I really not dreaming?" β
