Chapter 721: Confrontation

In July 1944, the Germans prepared to launch a landing operation against Britain in the same way as Operation Hastings in World War I, and completely eliminate the British. But this time it ended in failure. With the lessons of the successful landing by Germany in World War I, how could the British not be on guard? They set up a large number of fortifications in places suitable for landing, laid mines on the seabed nearby, and mobilized a large number of civilian personnel to assist in surveillance.

The Germans had a lot of money this time, losing 200,000 men in a month's landing operation, and finally had to withdraw in disgrace.

Germany, which failed to land in Britain, had to return to the old path of bombing and wolves, and began to intensify its efforts to strangle Britain. Using six aircraft carriers sold by China, plus their two remaining carriers and numerous battleships, heavy cruisers, and destroyers, they rushed out of the English Channel to Brest (still under German control) on the west coast of France, under the protection of the air force. And using this as a base, it began to compete with Britain for sea power, and contained many American Atlantic Fleet forces.

And the Americans, who have long been plagued by German-Japanese submarines, have finally found a good way to transport aircraft.

First of all, on the northern front, they built several large transit airports on the Canadian islands of Newfoundland, Labrador and southern Greenland, and also expanded their air bases in Iceland and the Faroe Islands, so that several of their new fighters and bombers could land directly in Britain with a few transfers after attaching auxiliary fuel tanks.

They also found a way on the central and southern fronts. First of all, they used various means to let Brazil lease the reefs of San Pedro and São Paulo, and also forcibly leased several pieces of land in Belém and Recife in Brazil to build large transit airports. In this way, they have a foothold in the Atlantic, and they can transfer the plane directly to Africa.

As for the southern route, they did the same, building large transit airports on Ascension Island and St. Helena. This will allow you to fly directly to Namibia.

There is no doubt that this series of actions by the United States and Britain is a big move, and these places are not good places. For example, the reefs of San Pedro and São Paulo are slightly exposed reefs with a total area of less than 2 hectares and a maximum elevation of 17 meters. It is made up of several small islands and many reefs, the largest of which is only 5,300 square meters, which is the size of a football field.

But the Yankees, who were in a hurry, directly made several large artificial floating islands, and then towed them by tugboats, escorted by the fleet, and arrived here. Then sit on the bottom of the floating island. On the other hand, a large number of civilian merchant ships were requisitioned to bring earth and rock from Brazil, and the island area was expanded by reclamation. In this way, they built this small reef into a large airport.

It is also very difficult to build a large airport in the alpine region of the Arctic Circle, but these difficulties are not a problem at all for the Americans with deep pockets, and with their investment at no cost, the construction of these large transit airports was quickly completed. So a large number of American planes began to join the battle between Britain and Africa.

After the problem of insufficient aircraft was solved, the United States and Britain began to bomb cities in Germany, northern France and Belgium with all their might. However, Germany had a large number of jet fighters and various anti-aircraft missiles, so the results of British and American air raids were limited, and the losses were very heavy. However, there are many planes from the United States and Britain, and there are always fish that have slipped through the net and successfully broken through the blockade net and carried out strategic bombing of cities, factories, and various facilities in Germany and East Africa.

The same is true for South Africa, but the United States does not dare to bomb the Japanese mainland, so it can only use targets and supply lines outside the borders, although it also loses a lot of supplies and personnel. But because only the forward bases are being attacked, there will be no loss of productivity. Although the damage in Germany is relatively small, most of it is in the local cities, and there is still a loss of productivity. As a result, Germany began to make a strategic shift, gradually relocating some of the factories that were easy targets to Romania, Bulgaria, Poland and the three Baltic states.

However, neither the original plane nor the original plane, whether it is Japan's Kita Kazuki or Germany's Hitler, is crazy enough to think that he can force the United States to surrender. All they want is a dignified truce with the United States and the preservation of their current territory. The problem is that the Americans do not intend to stop war with them at all. In the early stage, it may be because of the needs of the arms chaebols, or the stubbornness and prejudice of the government bosses, but in the later stage, the Americans have invested too much, and there is no room for a truce. Therefore, Germany and Japan will not even achieve this purpose. For this reason, Germany and Japan can only try to find a way to force the United States to cease the war, otherwise Germany and Japan will not be able to bear the loss in this way.

Everyone knows that the only way to make a country unable to fight is to inflict enough losses on them, and when the losses reach a certain level, the country can no longer hold on, then there will naturally be a truce. But now Germany and Japan are unable to attack the mainland of the United States, and can only watch the Yankees be safe and unaffected.

This is not the way to go!

Germany and Japan now have long-range strategic bombers, especially Germany, their JU-233 can take off from Berlin to bomb Washington, and now that they have taken the Azores and established forward airfields, there will be no problem, and even the smaller JU-200 and Do-155 can bomb the United States.

But there was a problem, the Germans did not have fighters capable of escorting them. No one knew better than the Germans what would happen to a bomber without escort in the face of a large number of interceptors, especially jets.

Germany has always had a good talent for rockets, and in addition to bombers, they have now developed the S-7 long-range intercontinental missile, which has a range of 7,000 kilometers and can also hit the US mainland directly. But the cost of this thing is too high, one will cost millions of marks, and it can only carry a warhead weighing up to one ton, and the hit rate is quite impressive, if you hit such a distant target, there may be an error of more than ten kilometers.

The Germans are not stupid, they naturally do not do such a low-cost means to drop a 1,000-kilogram bomb for millions of marks, or the price of an intercontinental heavy bomber? This kind of stupid thing, the mustache will not do.

In the end, the Germans were forced to come up with a method, which was simple and realistic, they launched missiles from submarines!

In the 30s, the Germans obtained the technology of China's Manatee-class transport submarines, and on the basis of this container transport submarine, they developed their own U-12 large transport submarines, which were used as wet nurses and blood replenishment for the wolves. Now they have converted a missile submarine on the basis of this transport submarine.

Of course, this is not China's current kind of missile submarine, their U-22 does not have the ability to launch underwater, but it is equipped with four hydraulically lifted missile launch cabinets in the cargo hold, which can be lifted to a 45-degree angle under the action of the hydraulic lifting arm and launched to the rear of the boat.

The Germans developed two missiles specifically for this purpose, a V-6 cruise missile and an S-9 ballistic missile. The performance of these two missiles, because of the introduction of technology recently obtained from China, far exceeds their own things. Missile launch cabinets have also been made modular by them, each missile launch cabinet can have 8-16 launch tubes, such a submarine, can launch 32-64 missiles at a time.

Both of these are short-range missiles with a range of only 300-1000 km, which is much cheaper. In particular, the V-6 cruise missile, one of which is only a few kilomarks, can carry a 500-1000 kg warhead against targets at a distance of 300-600 km, and therefore can be manufactured in large quantities. The missiles were launched at five-second intervals, and a total of 64 missiles could be launched within five minutes of surface. Then the submarine put away the missile launch cabinet and dived and fled.

In the early hours of the morning of September 3, 1944, Germany used 60 missile submarines to launch more than 2,000 missiles at cities on the east coast of the United States in retaliation for the bombing of German cities.

The United States was made miserable by this, and although the warheads of these missiles were not large, the United States had no defense at all against the fact that "the mainland would be bombed." In addition, the missiles were all landed in densely populated cities on the east coast, so the United States suffered heavy losses. The German missile rain caused more than 70,000 casualties in the United States and destroyed a large number of factories. Most importantly, it has caused a great psychological shock to the American people.

The continental United States is no longer a place to rest easy. You must know that the United States has not been attacked for more than 100 years, and now that it has received such a blow, the impact on national morale is extremely huge. Americans in many East Coast cities are moving away from their homes to the safety of the Midlands and West.

After receiving a blow from the slap, the U.S. government immediately stepped in to calm the people's emotions and demanded that the military must prevent the recurrence of such a disaster, and at the same time demanded that the U.S. military immediately retaliate.

Just as the United States used to regularly send large groups of bombers to bomb Germany, now Germany has also begun to bomb the United States with missiles on a regular basis. If a German submarine departs from the Azores base, sails by snorkel for about 6-8 days to enter the attack position, floats and launches all the missiles, and then returns to the base in the same amount of time, reloads the missiles for another day, and repeats the bombing mission.

Seeing that the effect of this missile submarine was so good, Mustache immediately ordered the construction of a large number of submarines, and at the same time placed an order for 80 U-22 submarines to China, many of which are derived from China, and Mustache is not afraid that China will learn things. In the opinion of German experts, something from China can only be better. So they went to China to engage in exchanges, hoping to optimize and modify the U-22 submarine.

At the suggestion of the world's largest five-mark party, the Chinese side immediately began to optimize the design of the U-22 submarine and began to build a large number of submarines at the same time.

Beginning at the end of September, Germany used 70 of these missile submarines in six batches and began bombing the United States on a scale about once every five days, and the number of submarines gradually increased.

This time the Yankees were miserable, and the German missile submarine was only 10-15 minutes on the surface from the time it launched its missiles from the surface to the time it dived again, and the time available for attack was extremely short. To stop the bombing of German submarines, the United States would have to commit a large number of ships and patrol aircraft to suppressive patrols. About 3 million to 4 million square kilometers of the east coast of the United States are possible attack zones for German submarines, and to cover this area would drain all American escort forces.

As a result, the United States built an anti-submarine airship equipped with radar, and spent a lot of money to put a large number of old bombers and seaplanes on radar and put them into suppressive patrols. However, the Americans soon discovered that this approach did not work.

Because at this time, the Germans had already developed a ship-to-air version of the anti-radiation missile, and after learning that the Americans had done these tricks, they installed this kind of missile on the submarine, and used it with radar sirens to deal with patrol planes. As a result, US patrol planes and airships were shot down by German missiles many times in a row, making the Americans very passive.

The Ghanaian government, which had no choice but to do so, began to play the people's war, and they recruited a large number of civilian boats, any fishing boats, yachts, and equipped with radar, sonar, and weapons for anti-submarine patrols.

But civilian ships are not good anti-submarine platforms, even with radar. They are not so much anti-submarine as they are a vigilance. However, the Germans did not even spare these civilian ships, and they sent attack submarines specifically for civilian ships, either with missiles or torpedoes, to kill a large number of these "temporary workers".

The Japanese saw that Germany was having such a good time, and they wanted to come over and help. However, they do not have missile submarines, and although Japan does not take a crooked path in the use of submarines in this plane, they only attach importance to anti-submarine technology, and do not attach as much importance to submarines themselves as Germany does.

But it doesn't matter, they have a boss to back up.

China's shipbuilding industry started very high, using a large number of advanced experience such as assembly lines, segmented manufacturing, etc., and using later generations of operations research to optimize management, improve material purchase and preparation and production processes. The most important thing is that since the 30s, it has been gradually popularizing automation equipment, one-time molding technology, etc., making China's shipbuilding industry extremely efficient. In fact, in the past, China's shipyards were far from reaching the level of maximum output, although they saw a lot of orders, and this was only because of the social problems that followed by a lot of automation.

But in this special period, these problems are not a problem. When China's big monster bursts out of production capacity at 80%, it is very terrifying. This kind of 5,000-ton missile submarine, codenamed "Type 920", is completely based on modularity as a selling point, and at the same time, dozens of factories are working together, each doing its own thing, and when the time comes, it will be good to assemble it, and this speed is very terrifying. In less than three months, there was one, dozens of shipyards, and more than 100 ships started construction at the same time, and China began to make dumplings at this speed.

At the same time, during the construction period, China organized simulated training and practical training for German and Japanese submarine officers and men to ensure that they could get started as soon as they got their hands on the submarines.

On Christmas Eve, December 24, 1944, Japan's first "Type 920" missiles also joined the bombing of the United States.
