Chapter 1 There's a lot of things you don't know
The porcelain-white coffee cup contains half of the whole milk, and the extracted concentrate slowly falls, and the aroma of the latte pulls me back from the void to reality. The coffee is slightly acidic in its lubrication, slightly fruity and has a red wine-like texture. The stomach that has been grinding for a day is slightly better.
An hour ago, I had just concluded a civil tort contract dispute. The case was very tricky due to the loss of important evidentiary materials by the parties. I stayed up all night to prepare the evidence catalogue and the agent's opinion, and I was so nervous that I couldn't eat anything before going to court. It wasn't until the collegial panel asked me to finish the full statement of the representation's opinions, and when I saw the presiding judge nodding frequently, my heart was relieved. After closing the courtroom, I was like a fish that had been dehydrated for a long time.
The real court is not like the TV series, where the defendant is sentenced to death on the spot or the party bears the responsibility for losing the case. Most of the time, the lawyer receives a letter from a court in the midst of a daily chorus. Therefore, a qualified lawyer should carefully review and sort out the focus of the dispute and the judge's opinion in court after the trial, so as not to be at a loss after receiving the judgment.
I put my coffee cup on the bar and was about to open my notebook to write some ideas, when the phone on the desk rang.
I rubbed my right shoulder and heard the sound of bones colliding.
The screen lit up and it was the name of an old friend.
"Frank," I pressed the speakerphone, "why do you have time to remember to call me?" ”
"Hey, it's like I haven't contacted you in a long time. I'm tired to hear your voice, how are you doing? The familiar greeting came to my ears, probably because I had known each other for too long, and Frank always talked to me with a kind of uncaring chuckle. Thinking about it for so many years, in front of me, he always looked so open-minded that he didn't care about anything, just like his classmates when they were young.
"Just finished the trial." I pulled out the white Mediterranean-style dining table and chairs and sat down.
"I told you not to be a lawyer, how important is work life balance." The voice on the other side of the phone rang out, and I smiled, as if I could see Frank's "I told you earlier" face.
"How can I have a comfortable life as a university teacher like you."
"It's not as easy as you think, in addition to taking students to play games, it's also very annoying to have a few scientific research projects in hand recently." Sometimes, I really admire Frank's feelings. The boys who are studying engineering are stunned to study for a master's degree and a doctorate at this school, so that they can train the school's debate team for a long time. However, in the past two years, the school's debate career has indeed been very popular.
"Team Gu, do you remember?" Get down to business. It sounded like his voice was a little erratic.
I hadn't heard a name in years, and I exhaled the smell of cinnamon-scented coffee and held the phone in one hand.
"I don't remember." The memory is too far away, and there are very few people who know about this past, and they are basically not around.
"His European girlfriend seems to be married, but the groom is not him."
Suddenly, the memories were a little turbulent, and I was a little shocked.
"The Australian one?"
He drank tea with her and watched the sunrise.
"We're graduating," she said. ”
"Britain and Australia are actually half a world away," he said. ”
Byron said, "If I see you again, how will I say to you with tears and silence after all these years?" ”
But I don't seem to be close to him.
Years have passed, and maybe I'm just a gust of wind that blows on him one day.
No, it's a grain of sand raised by this gust of wind.
It's all too normal for him to not remember.
Or rather, he remembers, it's a miracle.
