Chapter 355: Judgment

Behind Dumbledore, in the front row of chairs sat a number of high-ranking officials of the Ministry of Magic, Cornelius Fudge, Amelia Bones, Barty Crouch, and Dolores Umbridge, and behind them sat the directors of the various functional offices and celebrities and leaders from all walks of life in the wizarding world.

Amosta hesitated for a moment, a little unsure of where he should sit, but fortunately, Amelia beckoned to him,

"Come here, Amosta--"

The Wizengamot also had its own unique rules of the game, and Amosta knew that the first row was obviously not where he should be, but Fudge smiled and gestured to himself, and after a moment of silence, Amosta smiled freely, ignored the many strange gazes, and walked up the stairs to the high platform.

The atmosphere was very solemn, and after Amosta sat down beside Amelia, he just nodded to the acquaintances and kept silent.

Dumbledore looked back at the rows of seats behind him, and after confirming that he was not absent, his eyes fell on Barty Crouch, who was beside Amosta, and Barty Crouch, who exuded a gloomy aura, and said gently,

"You'll be in charge, Barty?"

Barty Crouch stood up without saying a word and walked to the podium with a grim face, while Dumbledore made it to the seat that had just been vacated.

"Let's start now."

Barty Crouch said coldly, a humiliation in his voice.

Uninteresting –

Amosta, who had been watching the reaction of the Ministry of Magic's higher-ups, suddenly felt bored, and now this huge trial was nothing more than a farce, and the winner had already reaped the benefits.

On the opposite side of the platform was a room where the prisoners were temporarily kept, and after Crouch announced the start, the iron gates of the small room rattled, and one pillar after another slowly descended to the ground, Peter Pettigrew with his hands bound by ropes, and at least five wands against the back of his head.

Peter's flesh in the owl hut had disappeared after most of his tormented imprisonment, and he was now like a broomstick with few branches.

Peter stepped out of the darkness into the dim light, and when he saw Barty Crouch on the high platform opposite him and the men sitting on the first row of benches, he immediately shuddered, and let out a small sob, uncontrollably, and if it weren't for the wands behind his head that were forcing him forward, he would have collapsed to the ground.

Amosta heard the noise around him suddenly get louder, and most of them glared angrily at the dirty Peter, both for the Potters and for the fool they had suffered.

Dumbledore, who was beside him, let out a heavy sigh, and his back, which had just been straight, was a little stiff in a blink of an eye, and many people were observing Dumbledore's words and deeds, and a bearded wizard said in an angry voice,

"He doesn't deserve sympathy, Albus--"

"I agree with you—" Dumbledore blew his nose, his blue eyes filled with sadness, "but I can't pretend I'm not responsible, Curdill, it should have been avoided." ”

The noise was much quieter, some sighing heavily, others secretly casting mocking and disdainful glances at Dumbledore.

At that moment, the sound of heavy stones grinding against the same room that Peter had walked out of earlier was heard, and immediately afterward, Dlux escorted Sirius out.

I haven't seen him for nearly a month, and Sirius's complexion is much worse than before, of course, after being held in the deepest court of the Ministry of Magic for so long without seeing the sun, and having to endure wave after wave of interrogation, no one can be in a good state.

These days, the Daily Prophet has revealed the truth of the year, and everyone here knows that he is innocent, and the parliamentarians look at him with no fear but more curiosity. There is only one exception, and that is the presiding officer of this trial, Barty Crouch.

"Traitors of the lowly land, shameless cowards!"

For so many days, the Ministry of Magic has been detaining Sirius and Peter separately, and today is the first time Sirius has seen Peter, and he immediately forgot to follow Amosta, who greeted him with his eyes in the stands, and after a roar of rage, he desperately pounced on Peter, who was terrified.

However, Sirius' unsuccessful attempt to tear Peter apart was unsuccessful, and when he saw him pounce, several of the Aurors who were guarding Peter's side immediately turned their guns and pointed their wands at him with cold expressions.

"If you try to storm the order of the trial again, I will convict you, Sirius Black!"

Barty Crouch responded to Sirius' angry glare with indifferent eyes, and said mercilessly.

Sirius and Peter were both pressed to stone chairs that rose from the ground, with the difference that Peter was almost entirely bound by the chains of Ding Ling's hammer that grew from the chairs.

"February 27th trial," Barty Crouch opened the folder in front of him, even though he knew that his reputation would plummet after today, but his figure was still stable and upright.

"Interrogators: Albus Percival Wolfrick Brian Dumbledore, President of the International Confederation of Wizards and Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Cornelius Oswald Fudge, Minister for Magic, Barty Crouch, Director of International Magical Cooperation, Amelia Susan Burns, Director of the Law Enforcement of Magic, and Dolores M. Umbridge, Senior Deputy Minister. Trial Recorder: Eric Munch—"

Amosta shook her eyebrows in surprise, only to notice Eric sitting in an inconspicuous corner, his lips trembling with excitement.

"Accused, Peter Pettigrew--"

Barty Crouch looked away from the folder in his hand and pointed at Peter, who was paralyzed in his chair like a worm.

"Do you have any arguments for yourself when you were accused of revealing the whereabouts of the Potters in October 1981 as a mystery man, which led directly to the murder of the Potters?"

Debating aside, Peter seemed to be in a state of wandering, curled up in his chair, as far away from Sirius as he could.

"The person who previously carried this accusation was Sirius Black--"

In the judgment seat, a witch in the back row suddenly raised her hand to speak, and she attracted the attention of many people, including Dumbledore's, the witch nodded and smiled at Dumbledore, and asked,

"Mr. Dumbledore has previously provided evidence that Sirius Peter is the secret keeper of the Potters, but now that the Ministry of Magic has accused Peter Pettigrew of leaking the whereabouts of the Potters, we need to know about it."

The Ministry of Magic already has the truth about these things, but according to the regulations, it must be Peter or Sirius who must explain to the jury, and Peter is no longer able to speak, Sirius can only stand up and grit his teeth and say,

"When we learned through intelligence that the Voldemort Mystics were planning to kill Jaime and Lily, Dumbledore proposed to protect their whereabouts with the Loyalty Charm, but Jaime believed me more, and he decided not to bother Dumbledore and let me be their secret.

But in the final moments of this spell activation, I offered to replace me with this lowly traitor. People know that the Potters' best friend is me, and I think the mystery man will foresee something if I become a secretive, so suggest that Jaime and Lily-"

With a breath in Sirius's throat, he couldn't go on, but the members of the jury who were present guessed what was going on.

In fact, when people see that Peter Pettigrew is still alive, many things are decided, but Wizengamot cannot rely on speculation to determine whether a person is guilty or not, they still need evidence.

"This is a recorded confession, a credible confession obtained during the interrogation after the arrest of Peter Pettigrew in the Auror office--"

Delix, who was in the queue guarding Peter Pettigrew, presented a magically recorded confession to the Jury.

This confession resolved most of the doubts, including the whole process of leaking the secret to the mysterious man, including how he escaped from Sirius's pursuit afterwards, including how he hid his whereabouts for the past twelve years, all of which made most of the members of the Wizengamot Jury feel chills in their hearts.

They couldn't imagine that the frightened Peter Pettigrew who was curled up in his chair right now had done such a terrible thing.

"Arthur doesn't know yet--"

Amosta heard someone whispering behind him,

"It's horrible, I bet Arthur wouldn't spare any of the rats in the house if he found out about it!"
