Chapter 603: Moody's Fear
Harry almost thought he had misheard, he didn't move after Professor Moody opened his mouth to expose it, he was still prostrate on the ground, his face was incredulous, and Hermione was not much less frightened than him, and even, a little more so, because, when she first thought about it, Professor Moody might not be as generous as Professor Blaine to let them go, especially Professor Moody might be angry right now.
When Professor Moody walked slowly from a short distance on crutches and stopped in front of them, Harry knew he shouldn't be left to chance.
"Professor Moody--"
Harry and Hermione stood up in anticipation, losing the protection of the invisibility cloak, and the robe was covered with muddy water, and he was agitated by the cold wind, and immediately started to swing, if they were so frozen, then I am afraid they would have to spend the night at Madam Pomfrey tonight, fortunately, Professor Moody took out his wand and pointed at them, and then, a warm current instantly surged up to the limbs, and the frozen robe was also dry again.
"Thanks--"
Hermione's shrugged shoulders were lowered, and her whole body was much more relaxed, perhaps because of Professor Moody's friendly gesture, she felt less nervous.
"The Cloak of Invisibility is good, Potter--" Moody laughed in a hoarse voice, "I bet you've done a lot of great things with it--" Professor Moody seemed interested in the cloak, his eye rolling around, staring at the Cloak.
If he could, Harry would lend the Cloak to Professor Moody for a few days, if he could use it to find out Hermione's identity as a warrior, and of course, on the condition that he didn't lock himself up and Hermione tonight.
"Well, this is what my father left me--"
But somehow, Harry said something that he swore was definitely not because he was worried that Professor Moody would confiscate his invisibility cloak.
"Very interesting, very interesting—" Professor Moody, who was focused on the Cloak of Invisibility, muttered, "It's not an ordinary Cloak of Invisibility, I can feel its hidden wonders. Oh, I've always been sensitive to breath, and that's how I found you two little ones through my magic eye—"
Harry stared in awe at Moody's blue eyes, so far he had only met two people who could see through the Cloak of Invisibility, Professor Dumbledore and Professor Blaine, however, he had met a third one tonight.
Professor Moody seemed to realize that he was saying something that was not easy to understand, and he came back to his senses alertly, grinning at Hermione and Harry,
"Come on, two brave little ones, we don't have to stand here and endure the cold wind, do we?"
Brave?!
Hermione and Harry looked at each other, they really didn't expect Professor Moody to make such a comment about their night walk and eavesdropping on the professor's conversation. Ignoring the confusion of the two of them, Professor Moody waved to them and led them up the marble staircase, entering the foyer and turning left into a deserted hallway.
Although the windows in the hallway still poured cold air into the castle, the torches on the walls were still burning tenaciously, which provided some warmth, much more comfortable than standing outside.
Professor Moody looked warily left and right, and the magic eye was spinning so fast that Hermione looked a little disgusted.
"I can't make the mistake that Snape and Karkaroff just made, can I?"
Noticing Hermione's unnatural expression, Professor Moody grinned. But hearing this, both Hermione and Harry were apprehensive, after all, they had actually eavesdropped on the professor's conversation.
"As I said—"
Moody let out another hoarse dry laugh,
"I have to commend you two for your heroic and fearless behavior, you know, what you just faced, Dumbledore didn't want me to say that, but that's the way it is, the conspiracy of two extremely dangerous people, you have protected yourself very well, it seems that not everyone has taken the things I have repeatedly emphasized in class to deaf ears!"
Harry didn't know that Moody's perspective was so unique, but anyway, he was very much satisfied with Professor Moody's definition of Snape, so he grinned sheepishly.
Moody patted him on the shoulder and said in a rough voice
"Well, that's all for the small talk, two little ones, I guess you've gone through this conspiracy in its entirety, right, tell me everything you've heard, whoever says it first, Miss Granger, I think you'll start first, Minerva babbles on and on complimenting me on your clever head, and you're sure you won't miss a word, right?"
"What?"
Hermione was surprised to say that she didn't expect Professor Moody to be so blunt and ask her to tell what she had just overheard, and it wasn't a strange thing for Professor Moody to know what Professor Snape and Karkaroff were talking about, but Hermione always felt a little. Not quite right-
"Why do you think I just let those two guys go, Miss Granger—"
Moody said in a gruff voice,
"Snape and Karkaroff are both good at quibbling and deceiving, and Dumbledore always likes to see the good in people, and if I don't have conclusive evidence, then I'm afraid they will make up lies to hide the world!"
Harry's eyes flashed with realization, and the confusion he had just had been solved.
If Professor Bryan had asked, Hermione would have said it without hesitation, but Professor Moody. Yes, he's a great Defence Against the Dark Arts professor, and he's been teaching them how to resist the control of the Imperius Curse lately, and the spirit of risking prosecution to teach is something that many young wizards still admire.
However, they do not have a personal relationship with Professor Moody.
Hermione hesitated, and then, out of the corner of her eye, she noticed that Harry was looking at her eagerly.
"Sirius thinks Moody is credible--"
Hermione read the words from Harry's eyes.
"Actually--" Hermione took a deep breath, finally making up her mind, and she said to Moody, "we didn't hear what conspiracy Professor Snape and the Headmaster of Durmstrang were planning, it was actually like this--Professor Snape said, his office, ahem. Pantry--"
Hermione's face flushed slightly, and she remembered that she had also visited Snape's storage room in private.
"--On the night Beauxbatons and Durmstrang arrived at Hogwarts, they encountered thieves and lost the powder of the horn of the bicornus and the skin of the African tree snake, and based on your and Professor Bryan's Halloween night in the room behind the Great Hall, Professor Snape suspects that it was Professor Karkaroff-"
As Moody had said before, Hermione remembered the conversation verbatim, and she quickly spoke out the content of his two conversations, until Karkaroff tried to convince Snape to help him inquire about the first event of the Triwizard Tournament, and Snape didn't have time to reply.
With all that said, Hermione stared at Professor Moody as much as Harry, and they both wanted to know what Professor Moody had to say as an experienced Auror.
To be honest, as far as Hermione was concerned, Snape didn't show any flaws tonight, and perhaps the biggest problem was the fact that he had asked Headmaster Durmstrang out, but Professor Moody didn't seem to think so, his expression was solemn, and the blue MONOCKMARK remained motionless in his sockets as if he was stuck in the master.
"You're saying that Snape guessed that someone was making Polyjuice Potion, and that he had already told Dumbledore and Brian about it?"
Hermione nodded at first, but immediately shook her head,
"Karkaroff is so skeptical, but . Professor Snape did not answer. ”
Hermione hesitated and said, she looked at Professor Moody, inexplicably, she felt that Professor Moody seemed to be a little frightened, but the moment this thought floated, she was extinguished, Professor Moody had something to fear, this may just be her delusion.
Harry's eyes were eager, and he hoped that Professor Moody would analyze something that could make Snape unlucky.
"Karkaroff thinks Dumbledore or Bryan sent him to investigate his, oh, stupid idea. If they really suspected that Karkaroff had used a polyjuice potion, they wouldn't have bothered Snape to come and ask"
Did Snape tell Dumbledore and Bryan about someone in the castle secretly brewing a polyjuice potion, and if so, why didn't they make any moves-
Moody fell into a long silence, and it wasn't until Harry and Hermione, the two little ones, couldn't help but remind him of his preoccupied appearance, and he came back to his senses.
"Oh, I'm fine, Miss Granger, and Mr. Potter, thanks"
Professor Moody regained his senses,
"The information you've provided is valuable, very valuable - now, get back to your dormitories, I'll keep an eye on Snape and Karkaroff--"
