23. Return Trip (2)
Van Cleef stared at the holographic display in front of him, his heart calm. He is immersed in his own thoughts and captures movements in the outside world with precision through his senses. The first company commander has long been accustomed to using this way to look back on the past and pass the time.
Phil Zaloster stood beside him, a scar on his forehead that was oozing blood. Bleeding injuries like this were a common occurrence for the Nightblades, but it was surprising to see it appear on a Chief Think Tank.
They stood side by side on the bridge, and the commander of the second company, Fata Usailen, the commander of the fourth company, Augusto, and the commander of the sixth company, Yarod, had already rushed to the hangar. At the moment, the crew on the bridge is in a state of extreme busyness.
The captain at the time, Lady Talci of the House of Lustaronia, stood between the cold instruments, urging and scolding her crew to be quick. She's in her mid-forties, strong-willed, and pretty good at getting along with people like the Nightblades.
Thirty seconds later, the sound of hurried footsteps made Van Cleef voluntarily withdraw from his thoughts. The company commander turned around and saw their instructor wrapped in human skins leaping out of the darkness.
- He certainly didn't come by elevator or anything.
Van Cleef was amused by his thoughts, and he allowed himself to ignore for a moment the darkness at the time of Carlil's appearance, and the sound of footsteps that was clearly meant to remind them. He began to erase everything, leaving only focus on what existed.
"How's it going?" Carlil asked briefly.
"Nightfall received an emergency radio signal from a ship." Van Cleef gestured, keeping his usual expressionless face. "Coming from the front, they attached an identification number, and our crew is parsing it."
"If our equipment could be updated, they would have done it a little faster." Fell took the call. "However, the emergency broadcast signal has been parsed, do you want to listen to it in its entirety?"
"Just repeat it to me, Fair," Carlil shook his head at their chief think tank. "Also, how the hell did you scratch your forehead?"
The third company commander turned his head to glance at Van Cleef, who was standing side by side with him, who still had no change in his face, but nodded slightly, as if acknowledging something.
"In short, it can be easily analyzed as a hapless Rogue Merchant cargo ship and his lost three frigates, as well as a large group of orcs." Fell replied bluntly.
Carlil frowned.
The Nightblades are now in the Tempest Domain, and it's not uncommon to encounter Rogue Traders here, and in fact, it's not unusual to meet them anywhere. But orcs are something on another level.
Carlil hasn't met with them yet, but he's seen a lot of information. These green things have been described in the library aboard the Imperial Dream as 'stupid and ferocious biological weapons', as evidenced by the materials inside the Nightblade.
However, the stupidity of orcs is really limited to certain narrow aspects, and they are not stupid at all in combat. And, most crucially, they always come in droves. If you see an orc, you're bound to see more.
"Have there been any sightings of orcs in the Stormstorm Field?" Carlil asked.
"At least not in my memory, instructor." The first company commander said. "But these things are cunning brutes who can fight and escape. It's not unusual for them to be found anywhere. β
"And he's a rare idiot among aliens." The chief think tank said with a little sarcasm.
Carlil looked away, and he looked down at the instrument in front of him. The holographic display has a dense stream of runes on the table that are flashing one after another, and a vague progress bar is beating behind the runes.
That's the progress of the identification code, and the crew is already familiar with their work, even with old-fashioned equipment. However, this matter is no longer Karil's primary concern.
Orcs
He narrowed his eyes and turned to look at the female captain. The latter's gaze on him seemed to have been anticipated, and he stared at him impartially, with a serious face. Carlil didn't hesitate and gave the order directly: "Go full speed toward that ship, Lady Talsi." β
The captain nodded slightly, turned around and began to urge her crew in a louder voice. The ship's engines rumbled after a slow wait, and the walls and floors around the bridge began to tremble.
The Nightfall is never quiet at high speed, and if it could be heard in a vacuum, everyone would be able to hear its strange announcement that bordered on a war cry.
Phil Zaloster exhaled slowly, the wound on his forehead had long since stopped bleeding, and a strange itch was coming from it at the moment.
He spoke in a murmuring tone, with an obvious irony: "I hope there aren't too many, but we only have five thousand." β
"You might as well count on Fata Usailen and Augusto to join forces." Van Cleef retorted calmly, and it took less than two seconds for the words to be uttered to the end, while their instructor had already disappeared from the bridge.
Fell groaned and rubbed his eyebrows: "You're really mean, a company of adults." β
"Each other, each other." Van Cleef said. "Get ready for battle, the orcs hope we won't be killed by them."
Fell burst out laughing.

Generally speaking, being a pirate is easy. However, it is difficult to be a pirate who has official ties and is officially licensed.
The former is in most cases free to take someone else's stuff without having to pay, while the latter is not, although the profits have also become high.
However, for Navarro del Kunas, he is afraid that he will not be able to get used to being harmonious and normal in his life.
Of course, he definitely didn't expect that he would be robbed today.
And not by some daring peer, nor by those greedy governors who used reasonable and legal means. He's being robbed by a bunch of goddamn, goddamn, fucking aliens.
Orcs.
Navarro sighed and began to wonder if he hadn't been wearing his lucky trinkets as he was used to when he went out lately.
He checked it and found that his Lucky Ring, Lucky Necklace, and Lucky Bracelet were all in good place where they were supposed to be.
Then another thought was bornβdid his act of abandoning Lady Luck and believing in the truth of the Empire anger the goddess who did not know whether it existed or not? Why was he so unlucky?
But, anyway, it's too late to regret it now.
Captain Navarro sighed and raised his automatic gun and began firing ferociously across the hallway. They are being jumped, the enemy is menacing, and the beasts are numerous.
Fortunately, most of the money Navarro has earned over the years has been spent on weaponry, and he has a six-hundred-man personal guard regiment, and their weapons range from heavy short-handled guns to hand cannons, all of which are of the best goods.
You can even find four Navy pistols under Navarro's coat, and these four smuggled treasures are the things he always carries with him when he sleeps. Therefore, although the orcs are extremely numerous, they will not be able to gain the upper hand for a while.
After all, it's a jumper - the cabin is cramped and the corridors are cramped. A machine gun or a dozen automatic guns can easily occupy a corner, let alone something like a shotgun.
Navarro smiled happily and began to joke with his lieutenant as he fired back at the greedy green-skinned bastards, "I say, Mayorn, don't you think these bastards chose the wrong person for our gang jumper?" β
His bald lieutenant glanced at him and shook his head in exasperation, a bullet in his mouth, and his speech was incoherent: "I think you're a bastard, captain, and all three frigates have been lost to you bastard." β
"How did I know they were orcs?" Navarro screamed and retracted behind the bunker to begin changing the magazine for the automatic gun. His lieutenant continued to shoot, two automatic pistols fired continuously, and the benefits of the oversized magazine were here.
"Can't you see there's something wrong with their boat?!" Mayorn angrily retreated behind the bunker and muttered at him. "Which Imperial ship would paint its hull yellow?!"
"What if it's rusty?" Navarro retorted wistfully.
"Do you still have a little common sense as a former navy?!" His lieutenant looked at him in disbelief. "Can the kind of ship with a rusty surface and yellow be driven into the universe?!"
"Alright, alright"
Captain Navarro stood up again and showed the utmost forgiveness to his lieutenant - he kicked the latter with his boot and opened fire with satisfaction amid expletives.
He is not flustered, and can even be said to be leisurely. After all, this is the Storm Star Domain, and although the Imperial ships coming and going from all directions cannot be said to be as many as the Sun Star Domain, there are definitely quite a few.
The broadcast signal had been sent out, and he had promised a shipment of goods of great value. As long as someone comes to help, these orcs can't afford to make any waves.
But
He retracted into cover again, elbowed his adjutant on the shoulder, and asked amid gunfire, "What about our secret?" β
"Which one are you referring to?" The adjutant stared at him. "Is it the one under your bed, or the one in your arsenal? Or is it the one in the stern? β
"Neither." Navarro said. "It's a diary with some very important names in it."
"What are you bringing it up for?"
Navarro shrugged: "We have to be prepared with both hands, who knows who will be on the ship that will support us?" I don't want the big guys' butts to get their shit wiped off for no apparent reason, and that's not good for you or me. β
"You bastard"
His lieutenant cursed again, but soon left with a group of men. They would go to protect the journal, and Navarro began to pray earnestly.
He hoped that the people who came to support him would be the ronin traders who knew the rules like him, otherwise, the Imperial army would do the same, as long as they didn't bring the ships of the officials.
He smiled, stood up, and fired again. I don't know what fate I am about to face.
Overslept during the day and only updated now, sorry. It's going to be updated today, and it's going to be added in September.
