......................................................
March 23, Republic 2783 (1942), Moscow, Kremlin.
Since last week, the beloved Comrade Stalin, the "loving father of the Soviet people," has been in a bad mood. Because Comrade Stalin was in a bad mood, the entire Kremlin was also in a dark cloud-covered atmosphere, and even the whole of Moscow was not good.
The reason is simple, because the heroic and invincible Soviet Red Army encountered a little trouble in the Central African theater. The Sudanese Front led by General Vasilevsky was driven back to North Sudan by US imperialism from the Shari River, and the gains of several months were in vain.
This is also something that cannot be helped, and anyone who encounters this kind of unfortunate thing of "returning to the pre-liberation period overnight" will not be able to feel better.
"Comrade Stalin, there is no problem with Comrade Vasilevsky's command, and this is entirely because the imperialist weapons are more advanced than ours, and the quality and courage of the commanders and fighters of the Red Army are the best, and our defeat this time is only far ...... in terms of technology"
At this time, the only person who dared to persuade Stalin in this way was the "prince of the Kremlin", the commander-in-chief of the Soviet Air Force, Comrade Andrei Nikolayevich Plunyakov.
Comrade Plunyakov was originally in command of the operation in Egypt, but this time he heard the bad news in Moscow, and Comrade Stalin was furious, so he rushed back.
"Well, I know, little Andre. Vasilevsky's unlucky bastard, I also know that he is unlucky. Damn imperialists!" Seeing this "own son" rushing back from Egypt, Stalin's face looked a little better.
"Little Andrey, if you hadn't commanded it well this time, I'm afraid we wouldn't even be able to hold North Sudan, that kind of bomb is really terrible!" Comrade Stalin felt bad when he thought of that terrible cloud burst bomb. In order to show off their achievements and deter the Soviet Union, the Yankees showed live video of that battle all over the world, and the Soviet Union naturally saw it.
To tell the truth, Stalin was also a little frightened by the huge fireball generated by the explosion of the giant cloud burst bomb in the film, and the towering mushroom cloud after the explosion. After watching this film, he hurriedly came to a bottle of vodka to suppress the shock.
This time it was thanks to the air force commanded by Prenyakov that a strong air defense line was formed, which successfully intercepted all American bombers carrying cloudburst bombs. Otherwise, the Soviets would have to retreat to Egypt.
This is also because the Yankees' cloudburst bombs are too large, the smallest are 3,000 pounds (1.36 tons) and cannot be carried by ********, only large bombers can carry them. But even if it is a large bomber, once it carries this kind of bomb, its mobility will become similar to that of a turtle, and in the face of Soviet jet fighters and overwhelming anti-aircraft rockets, it is not at all resistant, and it is completely a send-off.
Now with the strong support of the air force, Mao Zi has finally stabilized his position, but what should he do next? This is a question.
To be honest, the Soviets were psychologically overshadowed by that kind of bomb, and if there were no countermeasures, Stalin would not have dared to order to continue the offensive. North Sudan now has enough air force fighters to protect it, but if it continues to attack, only a few fighters will be able to get it. Jet aircraft have high requirements for field airfields.
Besides, the logistics of the Soviet Union's conquest of Africa now depend entirely on the supply of the Ethiopian-Soviet railway. This railway did not exist in the original time and space, and in order to prevent German penetration into British East Africa and increase its operational capacity, Britain planned this railway from Cairo in Egypt to Nyala in Sudan. Construction of the railway began in February 1925 and was largely completed before the outbreak of World War II.
With this railway, British control over East Africa was greatly strengthened. But the British themselves did not enjoy the convenience of the railway for long, and were thrown out by the Soviets. However, the railway is not perfect, and it can only reach Nyala at present. It is still more than 300 or 400 kilometers away from the border with Chad, and without railways, it will be difficult for the Soviet Union to ensure supplies from the front.
The development of the original plane Africa is much more powerful than that of the original plane, especially the infrastructure such as railways and roads, bridges, culverts, etc., which is much more and better than the Africa of the early 21st century in the original plane. Because of the situation in this plane, the great powers also have much more ideas about this place in Africa, and naturally have more investment. In order to increase their control over Africa, the great powers have all spared no expense in overhauling railways, highways and other infrastructure.
Otherwise, with the tragic infrastructure of the original time and space, the warring sides would not be able to play that big in Africa.
But even so, compared with the three continents of Europe, Asia and the United States, Africa's basic conditions are still relatively weak. For example, the main road used by the Soviet Union to maintain the supply of the Sudan front line is the only Ethiopian railway. Now it is already very tight to ensure the supply of hundreds of thousands of troops at the front. If we want to increase the number of airports that can take off and land jets, we will have to use this rail to transport supplies, and this will already be beyond the limit.
So now the Soviet Union is not able to build more high-quality airfields for the front line for a while and a half, not because it can't be repaired, but because things can't be delivered. But under the threat of US cloudburst bombs, if there is no air cover, how can the army do it?
"Comrade Stalin, this bomb is not mysterious, you don't have to worry. Plunyakov said confidently: "The great Soviets are also working on this bomb, and as far as I know, the prototype ...... was completed not long ago."
"Oh, really?" Comrade Stalin stood up at once. Great joy filled his body. "Is it the result of the Air Force Weapons Research Institute?"
"Yes, Comrade Stalin! It is the work of the comrades of the Air Force Weapons Research Institute......" Prenyakov said with a smile.
The Air Force Weapons Research Institute is a research institute under the direct jurisdiction of Plenyakov, which is also a large research institute that cannot be found in the original time and space. Because the Soviet Union in the original time and space did not have a person named "Plunyakov", who was called "the most talented general of the Soviet Union" and "the deputy leader of omnipotence".
Yes, this Air Force Weapons Research Institute is a research institute tailored by Comrade Stalin for his "own son", and its work is directly under the guidance of Plunyakov, and no other department has the right to intervene. Even Comrade Stalin did not quite understand what was going on inside, but from time to time it would surprise him, such as jet fighters, heavy bombers, missiles, and aerial bombs whose performance was in no way inferior to that of British and American imperialism and German-Japanese revisionism.
How do you say it compares to the things in the middle of the cultivation? Uh, can we not mention the middle cultivation?
In addition to these weapons, there are submarines and tanks, and even civilian products such as razors and all-in-one potato harvesters.
Well, that's right, there are submarines and tanks, although its name is "Air Force Weapons Research Institute", but the business scope of the people includes the army, navy and air force, as well as civilian equipment.
....................................................................................
In the afternoon of the same day, Comrade Stalin, accompanied by Air Force Commander Plunyakov, inspected the "Air Force Weapons Research Institute" on the outskirts of Ivanovo, northeast of Moscow.
The next day, on the explosive weapons test site on Novaya Zemlya, a fireball and mushroom cloud more than 100 meters high were raised.
Stalin sat on a Tu-5 command plane to watch the experiment, and when a huge fireball and mushroom cloud appeared, the "loving father of all peoples" swept away the clouds of many days and showed a childlike smile.
"Comrade Stalin, according to test data, compared with similar products of US imperialism, the lethality of our AB-1 bomb is 20 percent greater!" Korolev, director of the Air Force Weapons Research Institute, reported excitedly.
"Hahaha, little Andrey, you have made a great contribution to the Soviets!" he happily patted the shoulder of his "son" and praised it profusely.
"It's all the result of the joint efforts of the comrades...... Prenyakov said modestly.
"But this is because Comrade Deputy Commander-in-Chief gave us direct direction, otherwise it would not have been so fast. Korolev gave the boss a thumb on the side.
Of course, Korolev is not a sycophant, the Air Force Weapons Research Institute is indeed working under the direct guidance of the deputy commander-in-chief, and many of their achievements have been made under the prompting, inspiration, and even direct command of the deputy commander-in-chief. For example, this cloudburst bomb in front of you is like this.
However, these things that made people from all walks of life in the Soviet Union shine were nothing to Prenyakov, and he still had a lot to come up with.
The principle of thermobaric bombs is actually very simple, just the concept of dust explosion. The cost is cheap and easy to make, just give the following researchers a hint to use those raw materials, and constantly test the ratio and dispersion concentration of different combustion agent formulations. So after he invested a lot of manpower and material resources, this thing developed very quickly. After more than a year of development, the current Soviet fuel air bomb has been developed to the point where it can be put into practical use.
Although the Soviet Union's fuel air bomb came out a little later, because of Plunyakov's suggestion, the product is more advanced, and the product of the same level is more powerful than the Yankees.
Under the guidance of Comrade Plunyakov, the Soviet Union was able to carry out many kinds of cloudburst bombs in one go, including aerial bombs, artillery shells, mines, and even naval artillery shells.
This was followed by a series of experiments with cloudburst bombs, and large and small fireballs and mushroom clouds rose from time to time on Novaya Zemlya. It can be seen that Comrade Stalin's face is full of redness.
After a few days of experiments, Korolev reported to Stalin: "Comrade Stalin, according to the data of our many experiments, the best way to use fuel air bombs is to use them in confined or semi-confined spaces such as caves and houses in order to be fully effective. If it is in the flat range, then its damage radius is actually similar to that of a heavy bomb, and may even be a little shorter. Although the fireball of a normal bomb is not as large as that of a thermobaric bomb, the damage flight distance of shrapnel is quite long......"
The scene is indeed very powerful when this thermobaric bomb is thrown, with huge fireballs and mushroom clouds, but outside of the radius of its pressure frontal destruction, the effect is actually not very good.
Although it has the effect of burning off oxygen, air is convective. A thermobaric bomb goes down and burns off the nearby oxygen, creating a low-pressure area, and the air will be replenished in a few minutes. And even if you haven't learned to swim and have practiced it, you won't die if you don't breathe for a few minutes. Unless a large number of thermobaric bombs are dropped at one time to burn all the oxygen in the vicinity, there will be a suffocation effect caused by air in the central area that has no time to replenish.
However, thermobaric bombs have an advantage that bombs can't compare, that is, curve lethality.
Generally, when a bomb explodes, its shrapnel moves in a straight line, so lying down or hiding in a trench foxhole and other places has a great chance of escaping damage. Therefore, in trenches and fortifications, where there are anti-artillery holes, the power of the bomb will be greatly reduced, and the effect will be small unless it is a direct hit or a close shot.
But it's a different story with thermobaric bombs. Its main damage is based on temperature and shock wave pressure fronts, which can be turned and drilled, and its power and penetration are much higher than those of bombs. For example, the shrapnel of an ordinary 1,000-kilogram bomb can fly to a distance of 100~150 meters in an open field and still have lethality. However, if the target is hiding in a trench, it will generally be fine unless it lands within 20 meters. On the other hand, a one-ton thermobaric bomb with an open killing radius of 100 meters, even if the target is hiding in a trench, its killing radius is about 60~80 meters. If it explodes in a cave or tunnel, the killing distance of the thermobaric bomb front will not only not decrease, but will increase dramatically, because the shock wave energy is concentrated in several specific directions.
That is to say, when the lethality of ordinary bombs and thermobaric bombs in open land is not much different, when they are taken to the trench fortification area, the difference in the killing radius of the two sides immediately becomes 6~8 times. The killing area is the square of the radius, that is, 36~64 times. This is the greatest value of thermobaric bombs.
"That's already very good!" Stalin smiled and nodded.
Although compared to the spectacular fireballs and mushroom clouds, the actual effect of thermobaric bombs does not seem so proportional. But we all know that Comrade Stalin is just a good mouthful. He liked everything that looked magnificent, like a super-battleship, a multi-turret tank of the Land Cruiser class, well, the latter had been canceled.
A weapon with a great sense of spectacle and visual impact, such as a thermobaric bomb, was simply tailor-made for Comrade Stalin. Of course he was happy.
What if you say that the effect is not as good as you imagined? What does it matter? If one is not enough, just throw a few more, and if the small ones are not good, you will go to the big ones. What's so hard about this.
"Great, we also have this kind of thing, and American and British imperialism is not to worry!" Stalin was very happy, and hatred was his style. In the afternoon of the same day, he organized his subordinates to discuss launching a counterattack to avenge the revenge.
That night, a blue-green laser beam suddenly emitted from the head of a statue of a knight in a residential complex of high-ranking Moscow officials, invisible to the human eye. It mingled in the noisy red dust and shot out into space.
On the clairvoyant-2 giant synchronous monitoring satellite, a beautiful female ensign said: "It's special encrypted intelligence, just received ......"
