Chapter 9: The Shop and the Robbers
When you're a business owner, there are two ways to deal with competition most effectively.
The first is to stifle businesses by lowering prices, bribing suppliers, or intimidating workers.
The second method, and the most popular, is to bury the competitor himself. After all, when you are caught, it is only murder.
"I'm going to kill them." Tai saw a sign in front of the store that read: "Runewell Beautiful Potion Shop." They used a different color for each letter, which made the logo look eye-catching, but completely tasteless. "I'm going to kill them all."
"Gladly," Laufey said, rejoicing in his anger.
These people dared to open their shop just one street from his shop, in the heart of Lyon's business district. They bought the Tranquility Inn and transformed it into a larger "market" store, which was sold by rival Long Ge (D

"Let's take a look at the best potions." A good-looking businessman gushed to a crowd of spectators. "From the very beginning of the academy and the Adventurers' Guild, there have been elite alchemists who have provided them with raw materials in Runewell!" Looking for an antidote to the so-called "cloud of death" in the dungeon? You'll be in ...... Find it in Luneville's beautiful potion shop!"
A week and a half after the gas incident, the maggots had seized the opportunity.
This isn't the first time a necromancer has encountered the Runevale Guild. This alliance of merchants has monopolized much of the market for magical items in the kingdom of Avalon, although they are mainly concentrated in the big cities, where city dwellers pay more. They focus on mass-producing cheap products that everyone can afford, and while adventurers are not their core market, they have struggled to expand their business there. The owner had considered being in Ru
Ewell supplied itself, but later realized that they valued quantity more than quality.
Tai has to admit that their marketing is top-notch. Rows of potions and magic items are displayed in the windows, and the prices next to them are frighteningly low, and a glance at them will appeal to most adventurers.
To make matters worse, this flashy strategy worked. While the necromancer didn't see Anne and her friend enter that cursed place, he noticed that among the new clients were the uniforms of the academy members.
"Ah, our brilliant competitors!" The merchant notices Tye and his "apprentice", and he walks towards them with a false smile on his face. "It's great to meet a small business owner."
Said a representative of the big business of one kingdom. Runewell's rhetoric worked, because they had a point. They did provide most of the academy's alchemy supplies, but only for those members who didn't have time to make them themselves.
"It's my pleasure," Tay replied. "I'm here to congratulate you on finding the cure."
βRu
EWELL may be a business, but the safety of our customers is always more important than the pursuit of profits. "The businessman's voice sounded like a [meat puppet] reciting a script." Royalty and commoners alike. β
"Walter is also here to save lives," Laufey said naively.
The merchant glanced at her, but at her chest, not her face. He quickly came to his senses and focused his attention on the necromancer again. "Definitely! Ru
Ewell may need someone like you. β
It's their sales pitch......
"We are ready to give you a generous buyout condition. You can even continue to buy your goods under the banner of our company. β
The first way is to apologize. Niiiiiiceγ "How much?" Tay asked out of curiosity.
"Five hundred gold coins should be enough."
Laufey had to cover her face with one hand to hide her laughter. "That's more money than I've ever seen in my life!" Tai said expressionlessly that his assets could be a thousand times that number.
"Indeed," replied the merchant, his smirk condescending. "I swear, you'll never see a better proposal again."
"I'll think about it." The alchemist replied with the same expression. "I'll pray. May your adventure be smooth sailing in these dark times. β
"Me too."
Tay swore that as long as he exchanged words with this humanoid, cold dead man, he would be harmed by [poison]. He said sorry and left, Laufey following behind.
"These people have to go," said the wizard as they went to the temple precinct to deliver Sue's medicine.
"Do you really need to take action?" Laufey asked, though she didn't sound convinced. "Is it so important to keep the store running, especially if you're leaving in a few months?"
She had a point, and the store didn't bring in much revenue compared to the mining business. Ghost String also tells him that the famous Chief of Garth has arrived in the city, accompanied by his personal retinue and mercenaries. The Necromancer is expecting a new raid that is more worrying than the last one, and he should focus on this raid instead of his fake character.
However, Walter Tye is the mask that this necromancer has consciously made for many years. He enjoys the life he has created, and does not let anyone or anything disturb his peaceful life. "They have to leave."
"As you wish." Genie said. "Can I take care of that person?"
"No," replied the wizard. "I can't relate to this in any way. You're focusing on adventurers. If they are really an antidote to poisonous gases, then we can expect a raid. Leave your name to the warriors. β
"It's a shame." The Dark Elf lamented. "What are you going to do?" Patrickrahan burned down the shop at night?"
"I still have ...... Other nocturnal friends. β
In the moonlight, Tye the Anko stopped the carriage as he approached the place where he and Patrick had often met. Just like last time, this black marketeer didn't come alone.
The necromancer sensed that at least twenty thieves were hiding in the woods around them, ready to slit his throat at any moment. Patrick himself was surrounded by a group of hooded assassins armed with magical weapons.
A naughty woman seems to be their leader. Her long jet-black hair, sharp face, and cold silver eyes reminded Tay of a stalking lynx, thin, agile, and fierce. She was dressed conservatively, but her brown blouse, gloves, and boots barely covered the dagger she carried. Not to mention the [Lightning Blade] on her belt. She looked silently at Anko, one city predator at another.
Luckily, if he could trust the six boxes around Patrick, they brought what he wanted.
"Patrick, didn't I tell you to be cautious about meetings?" Ask. "Unless you want me to dispose of the witnesses. If you want someone to die, you can just ask. β
"This ...... It's complicated," said the black marketeer, who was clearly anxious at the scene. "I'm just here to introduce and transition. I'm retired. β
"Are you retired?"
"yes, after last time, I felt like my job was only a one-way ticket to Coffin Town. So I'm going to cash in my savings and leave this mess behind. Bought a farm and everything. β
"Oh. Congratulations. "What a loss. Patrick has a knack for finding hidden objects and forbidden items. "Do I suppose this charming lady will take your place?"
The woman smiled in response. "of. You've always dealt with me. β
"She's my boss," the black marketeer said. "And Na
bo
γ You know...... Before you kill him. β
"He tried to deceive both of us, and he deserved it," the woman said. "You can call me a robin."
Crime lords of eastern Avalon? Are you sure? She looked to be twenty-five or sixteen years old at best. "I'm Anko," Tai replied. He climbed out of the carriage, mentally prepared that if necessary, he would kill everyone in sight. "I hope you don't try to renegotiate the agreed price. These woods are dangerous at night. β
The woman smiled, her teeth reminding the necromancer of a cunning wolf. "I apologize for not providing good enough customer service to my staff. To compensate for this, I give you extra points for your delivery. β
She snapped her fingers, and Patrick opened the box with the help of the other hooligans. Tay watched as they presented him with the contents.
Bones of giants and monsters.
the femur of the Frost Giant; Hand of Fire; the mouth and fangs of a giant wolf; The backbone of a large serpent, whose magic confirms to be the offspring of a Midgard serpent. This delivery would seriously drain his funds, but it would pay off in the end.
"Are you going to raise them?" Mockbird asked.
"Nope." In fact, Tai intends to use them as materials to make powerful magical items for his men; Maybe give Hagen a [Cursed Axe], Spock a [Malevolent Claw], etc. The stronger the creature, the better the corpse is preserved, the better.
However, he noticed the part of "resurrection to immortality". It was clear that the woman had connected the facts to the facts.
As for the "supplemental"...... When the hooligans put it in front of him, Tay couldn't believe his eyes. He had to cast [Super Magic Scan] twice to believe that.
The skull of a dragon.
Although small, it is still the skull of a real dragon. That thing was worth the king's ransom and could allow Tay to craft powerful artifacts for himself or a powerful Guardian. How many people's favors did she use to get the job?
Necromancers can recognize bribes at a glance.
"So you know my taste, and I thank you for the gift," Tai said. "But I suppose a talented crime boss like you wouldn't come here just for deliveries, would he?" Even if it's as important as this one. β
"Patrick told me that you killed my subordinate with a spell called 'Death X'. According to my caster, this is a sixth-tier spell. A Necromancy. β
She did her research. Clever. "Do you want the princess to offer me a bounty on my head?"
"The royals are not my friends," replied the robin. "Instead, I wonder if you'd consider deepening our partnership with both agencies."
This caused Tai to pause for a moment. "Organization?"
"In addition to the army in the dungeon, I know you also control the Tai's Boiling Pot Shop, and possibly have other businesses. You cover your tracks well, but most of your purchases only make sense when used by a high-level [Alchemist]. I compared your shopping history with the store's shopping history, and it struck me. β
The brief silence that followed became unbearable.
"You're going to keep records of the sales of criminal businesses," Tye said in a doomed tone. "It's dangerous to do that."
"This is the trump card that protects us from treason," the robin replied. "I have no intention of disrupting your activities, nor do I intend to betray your human agents. I don't want to blackmail you either. But if you dare to mess with me......"
The necromancer pondered whether or not she should be killed immediately, and then guessed that she might have set up a dead man switch before coming here. "I see. A blockade that guarantees the destruction of each other. β
"It's the best place to trade," the scammer replied. "I want to keep doing business...... And even further. Most 'forbidden' spellcasters are caught before they reach the third tier, and you may be the only sixth tier caster who hasn't been hired by the Kingdom or the Five Calamities Legion. β
"You want to buy my magic skills."
"Yes, mostly magic items. I'm willing to pay a premium for quality. β
"I'm of little use for gold," Tai replied. "But I do need your favor."
"So, exchange services?" Mockingbird nodded. "What's the busy?"
"I hope Ru
Ewell stopped his activities in Lyon, allowing Tye's Boiling Cauldron to continue to be a favorite school for adventurers. β
"So you can spy on those who try to attack your dungeon?" Clever. If I were you, I would suggest taking over the major hotels and brothels as well. β
Aspect shrugged. "Can this be done?" Is it quiet?"
"Yes. This comes at a cost. Specifically, robbery, robbery, and theft, are among my top five sources of income. However, most of our high-income goals have woken up and are now investing heavily in magic locks and alarms. β
"I can make a key with a fairy's finger," Tay replied. "With the exception of archmages, they should be able to break the locks and protections of most magic."
"Make 20 and we'll make a deal." The woman then looked at his car. "Did you really hide the souls of your victims in your carriage?"
"Not those of my victims."
"And then he?"
"My fellow necromancer, of course!" Would you like to meet them?"
Of course, the robin didn't take the bait, but it still found it funny. She reached out, velvet gloves on her iron fingers. "I'm looking forward to our collaboration."
"Me too." The necromancer said, holding her hand. "Me too."
