Chapter 32: Competition
Aside from metal, glass, and centuries of human ingenuity to keep him safe, Joe isn't happy floating in the infinite void. This time, though, his phobia wasn't the main cause of his anxiety. If anything, he slowly but surely mastered it. If he's lucky, he'll probably enjoy the second half of the interstellar cruise. Unfortunately, his treatment for space phobia is rudely interrupted by the shocking news that Maggie's siblings are going to visit them. He suddenly learns that his cosmic lover apparently has a family that they have come to visit out of nowhere, and this person has a terrifying title - "Devourer". It's a hard pill to swallow.
This new news is also a source of concern for Joe at the moment. At first, he was just worried that the cold vacuum space would not swallow him, but now he also had to look forward to encountering some indescribable monster that might swallow him whole. Or at least that's his assumption, based on the very limited information he got from Maggie. The girl didn't have the usual calm and confident look, which only added to the pressure on his nerves. Thankfully, after spending so much time with a Tier 3 cosmic entity, Joe Mulligan's spirit was stimulated again and again. After the initial shock and subsequent fear subsided, he was able to think things more rationally.
Of course, he thought, this Kelogh 'the
The YL guy doesn't really eat up everything in front of him. After all, the Observer is not just a silent fly on the wall, doing nothing but watching from the sidelines. So it would be foolish for Joe to think that eating is all there is to a "devourer". Of course, he is not sure either, but he has good sources of information. The only problem was that he had a hunch that he wouldn't like the answer to his question. Like the micrometeorite incident, the true nature of the Devourer is a topic on which he would do well to remain ignorant. Joe pondered the matter for two whole days, and finally he decided that if he was to be around Maggie, he couldn't turn a blind eye to her problems. If he didn't try to understand her troubles, how could he possibly claim to be her boyfriend? Especially after his own family problems were exposed, she gave him great support.
Joe made a decision after lunch, he decided to eat alone so he could figure things out. Now that he had found it, he immediately went back to the cabin. He found the girl floating presumably in the middle of the room, eyes closed, hair curly, just like where and the way he had left her. She has been like this for most of the past two days, claiming that she is busy preparing for her upcoming visit. Joe had no doubt that Maggie must be doing some mental activity in case things got out of hand, but he had a hunch that she was just nervous and didn't know how to deal with it. In a way, it's cute.
"Hey, Maggie," he waved at her. "Do you have time?"
She opened her eyes, a smile on her lips.
"Yes to you, always."
"I'd like to ask something about the mystery man."
"Ahh
The girl didn't even want to harden her face.
"Then you ask, and I'll do my best to answer."
"Yes, then, let's start big. Devourer, huh? I guess this title isn't just for show, right?"
Maggie blinked a few times in succession, then chuckled softly.
"What?" Joe looked confused. "What's so funny?"
"I apologize. I mistakenly thought that "that person" meant someone else entirely. But yes, Kellotzeril's nickname is well deserved. β
"Okay...... So, you know, what will he eat?"
"I'm not sure, my siblings' tastes are constantly changing. I can assure you, though, that Kellogg won't eat anything that isn't tasty. β
"Ahh Also, what exactly does he think is 'delicious'?"
"As far as I know, the list includes, but is not limited to, marshmallows, nightmares about pancakes, polished nails, awkward silences, every episode of the 20th-century sitcom Friends, 7.5-carat diamonds, and the strange feeling of forgetting something."
"Hmm," Joe blinked. "Okay. This is in a way both super weird and completely understandable. β
To be sure, this is an extremely random set of things, some of which are not even "things" in their own right. However, this is exactly the kind of seemingly unrelated topic that Maggie might be obsessed with. Even if it's creepy or weirdly specific. Maybe it's their cosmic family that has a strong curiosity? One might say that technically, they all have a thirst for knowledge, although in the case of Devourers, it's more of a literal one. Either way, the discovery helped alleviate one of Joe's major concerns.
"Well, if nothing else, at least he's picky. Ha. I just wish I wouldn't be on the menu. β
He said this as a joke, but Maggie's icy gaze made him regret it immediately.
"Oh shit," he had a rare epiphany. "He's not here for this, is he?" Eat me?"
"It's highly likely," the girl said bluntly, "although on the contrary, the likelihood that Kellotherie wants to consume your body is low. Past correspondence tells me that my brothers and sisters have found human flesh, I quote, hopelessly tedious. β
"This, uh, probably a good thing, right?"
However, there are risks associated with other options. Kelosheri may be intent on devouring part of your mind, or perhaps a memory. That's why I'm building various psionic countermeasures right now. β
"Can he do it?" I mean, something to do with the brain?"
"Definitely. We both fall squarely into the third category. We're evenly matched in psionic abilities. If there is a fight between us, it will immediately turn into a stalemate, which will inevitably end in a draw. However, this is exactly the reason why you shouldn't worry because I can immediately stop any pranks that my significant other might have planned. β
"The other half? The man raised an eyebrow. "What, ex or something?"
Maggie's face furrowed, revealing a palpable disgust, and Joe momentarily felt that his lunch might unexpectedly reappear.
"It's the most despicable insinuation I've ever heard," she said bluntly. "So I'm going to erase it from my memory now, and I ask you never to say it again, lest I do it again."
ββ¦β¦ All right. β
Joe immediately felt like a complete fool. Of course, this devourer is not Maggie's ex-boyfriend. Strange sibling relationships aside, the girl has said on several occasions that this romantic relationship is the first time for her and that lying goes against her nature. Admittedly, she sometimes ignores disturbing facts, but this is clearly not one of them. Her reaction to Joe's words was so strong that Joe couldn't bring up the "other half" comment anymore. A few days later, the man put the matter behind him entirely, relegating it to what Maggie occasionally referred to as "unknowable truths"βknowledge that the human mind cannot comprehend without giving up reason. The important point from this conversation is that she is wary and unsure of the motives of the "devourer", and Joe needs to be vigilant.
Then, inevitably, the big day came. The spacecraft arrived in the Midpeak galaxy on time. This particular galaxy was one of the first to be colonized by the Third British Empire, and local events reflect this. Four of its eight planets are inhabited, as well as dozens of moons and space stations. Overall, the total population of the system easily exceeds 30 billion, the highest in 3BE. Of particular note is the Midc
Planet EST-3, which is a huge celestial body, is not massive enough to be a gas giant. More like the "gas dwarfs" as the locals like to say. Its surface is highly irradiated, and the atmosphere is filled with toxic metal particles, which, when viewed from orbit, give it a surreal purple-green hue. It was a completely uninhabitable world, surpassing any existing terraforming technology.
What makes the planet remarkable are its three natural satellites β Central-3a, Central-3b, and Central-3-d. It used to have four, but the 3c was too small and had no atmosphere, so it became a spaceship and a super skyscraper. However, the other three planets are very similar to Earth in size, temperature, and composition, and the British colonists did not settle on these extremely rare asteroids as quickly and as quickly as possible. As a result, the hat-tricks of these satellites now account for about half of the system's staggering population and are responsible for 90% of its industry. For three centuries, the so-called Central Three-Mag has been one of the giants of British civilization, and there is no sign of abandoning this title.
However, the infrastructure of ancient large cities has not stood the test of time. As old tunnels, factories, and storage spaces are phased out, humans, like humans, simply abandon them and rebuild elsewhere. The local government said it was not feasible to renovate and renovate so many old facilities. As a result, large swaths of the city are derelict and barely functional. All sorts of nasty elements are allowed to thrive in these almost lawless areas, and this is especially true in areas like Butte
po
A newer, shinier colony like the D-4 was almost impossible. In other words, it was a perfect foothold for a brazen tertiary cosmic entity without being discovered by the supernatural expulsion agency.
"So, uh, where's Mr. Brain?" Joe asked.
"Not sure."
"But you said he was on this ship, right?"
"Indeed."
"And it's been two hours."
"That's right."
"And where is he?"
"Not sure."
"But haven't you seen everything?!"
"My perception really encompasses the whole of this ship. However, my siblings are projecting a psionic interference field that prevents us from pinpointing our location. β
"What about those cameras?" You can use them with your technical magic, right?"
"That's true, but I don't know at the moment who still maintains my sibling consciousness among the 276 passengers who took off from Midwest 3A."
In other words, she didn't know what she was looking for. Even if she knew, there were other ways for her target to escape her attention. Maggie's assertion that the two of them are evenly matched, is as accurate as ever.
"Ah," the man gave up. "Well, we've already missed lunchtime at the restaurant, so do you mind if I call room service?"
"It's allowed."
Now more frustrated than anxious, Joe immediately ordered a fish and chips. Then he reconsidered it and ordered three more - one for Maggie and two for their eventual visitor. Almost immediately after he had done so, a bell rang at the couple's door. Considering this strange point in time, and the fact that the display board next to the entrance failed to identify visitors by the implants, there is no doubt who ultimately decided to show up. Joe and Maggie nodded in understanding, then took a deep breath and opened the door.
The person on the other side was completely different from what he expected. He was greeted not by some obese lazy man, nor by some incredibly thin picky eater, but by an absolute bombshell. This woman has fair and flawless skin, sharp blue eyes, wild blonde hair, aggressive feminine features, and an exaggerated hourglass figure, and looks like she has come straight out of an adult movie. The last point, in particular, is almost entirely on display. She wore a bright red sweater like a cocktail dress, everything around her shoulders was completely exposed, barely covering her full breasts. This almost indecent garment calls into question its own ability to hold and the existence of any underwear. A pair of long legs peeking out from the lower end are wrapped in some thigh-length stockings, leaving an exciting area of bare skin, though Joe hasn't gone that far yet. His glazed gaze remained fixed on the woman's upper body, though not at her outrageous cleavage. What caught his attention was the woman's fanged grin, and her blond hair, which seemed to have formed on her own volition, in the shape of a mouth.
"Hello, dear." She blinked. "Are you waiting for me, or am I just in time for you?"

Joe's head slowly turned to Maggie, and one could almost hear his neck creaking. He looked at her with wide eyes and said louder than any words, "Really? Didn't you notice?! The girl gently covers her face and replies, indicating that she doesn't know why she doesn't think the weird man with a shark's mouth and biting hair might be a "devourer". After a brief and silent exchange, Joe turned his attention back to their guests. The blonde grinned even harder, and it was clear that she was enjoying the moment. It is true that it will not be easy to subdue Maglaslak the Observer, but if anyone can do it, it must be his opposing opponent in the universe, Kelotelier the Devourer.
"Call me Kelly by the way," the woman said in greeting, holding out her hand. "You must be Joe."
"Ah, yes, hello," the man shook it awkwardly. "It's a pleasure...... Uh, wait, why are your palms so sweaty?"
It was rude for him to say that, especially considering the way he retracted his arm. However, his reaction was natural. That handshake was so wet that it was disgusting.
"That's not Khan, dear."
The devourer raised her hand, a small mouth peeking out from her palm, her tongue wet.
"By the way, your skin is hard to eat. You need to moisturize more. β
"Hmm..."
"Joe's skin is rough," Maggie interjected. "It has a more masculine feel to it, and I personally think it suits him well."
The two Level 3 entities looked at each other, their expressions flattening. Then, something happened. The whirlpool abyss that Maggie gazed into turned into a dark whirlpool, and Kelly's blue iris shone like a miniature sun. Both of their animated hair began to grow like crazy, either with eyes or fangs. However, despite all these signs of psionic activity, he had learned to recognize, and Joe saw that his environment had absolutely not changed. Not a single piece of furniture broke in half, not a single wall shook or bent, and he did not bleed from a single hole. Then again, he couldn't possibly know that Kelly was trying to open the microscopic black holes that were everywhere and that Maggie was closing them. As the girl expected, the stalemate ended in a draw less than a minute later.
"It's nice to see that humans don't dull your senses," Kelly grinned again.
"The feeling is not mutual."
"Oh, don't do that. Don't do this. We haven't seen a face-to-face person for centuries. At least give us a hug. β
The blonde opened her arms and the brunette rolled her eyes, but the two sisters hugged her tightly. Either way, Kelly seemed genuinely happy to see Maggie. At the same time, the more reserved girl apparently did so out of some obligation, because of how unwilling she was to return the hug. All the greetings were over, and the blonde took a step back and turned her attention back to Joe.
"Is it true?" I admire that you can wrap up a man like that. He's such a mouth-watering guy, isn't he?"
The way she raised her eyebrows and licked her red lips showed that she wasn't using the literal meaning of the word.
"Don't have any thoughts, ma'am," he immediately interrupted her. "Don't get me wrong, you're beautiful, but I love Maggie more than anything"
The lascivious expression on Kelly's face turned into one of disappointment, and her "little sister" began to exude an air of pure smugness.
"Also, where is your streamer?" Joe looked up and down the hallway, but found no one else.
"Oh, dear, that's not what I'm going to do," the woman reassured him. "I'm just borrowing its body while its owner is napping."
The man glanced at Maggie and begged her to explain.
"Possessed." She clarified.
"Ahh
"Don't give me that look, my dear. If I can make you feel better, this pathetic loser welcomes me in. It was fine for both of us, although I had to make some modifications. β
She clutched her bulging chest as she emphasized the last word.
"Good," disguised as indifferent. "Okay, I guess you'd better come in, okay?" The food I ordered should arrive quickly. β
"Why thank you so graciously."
Kelly hopped into the cabin and sat down on the couch in the center of the room. Joe and Maggie each sat across from her, across the glass coffee table.
"Well, well, Kelly. What wind is blowing you here? The man began the conversation.
"Oh, no big deal. I just don't want to miss a chance to see what the forgetful ladies are up to. And, judging by the information I've gathered, there should be quite a bit of food on this cruise ship, and from what I've seen so far, I'm right. β
"I see. Well, what kind of little snack? The man asked cautiously.
βV-i-g-i-

"What is a virgin?"
An awkward silence followed, which lasted only a few minutes before Maggie let out a barely audible but apparently mocking snort.
"Be quiet," Kelly growled.
"I will do my best, to the best of my ability, to emphasize an objective truth: Anyone who fails in basic linguistics to the extent that you have just shown is not worthy of the gift of speaking."
The blonde stared at her with a blank expression, an expression Joe was all too familiar with. It's the face of someone who doesn't know what they've just been told.
"She means she'll shut up when you learn to spell." He translated politely.
"Oh, is it? Well, you can tell her that while she's busy guessing words, I've discovered seven new tastes that she'll never know!"
"Joe, tell our guests that I have observed and recorded 68,771 new messages since we last met."
"You can tell herβ"
"Wow, wow! Take it easy. "He tried to calm them both down." Listen, I know you guys don't get along very well, but seriously. Your sisters. Well, sort of. So, you know, relax a little bit. β
The two cosmic entities looked at each other intensely, then turned to Joe at the same time, each with a questioning expression.
"No, I'm not saying you should start glowing," he clarified.
The girls nodded resolutely and relaxed back to their seats, while the boys let out a tired sigh. As he suspected, although the difference between the two men was like day and night, deep down they were more similar than they were willing to admit. How else could they have the same basic misunderstanding? Of course, Maggie isn't sure, as she's a little too literal at times, and Kelly's confusion most likely stems from stupidity, but it's the common ground. Admittedly, this is a good thing and if nothing else, it will make the visit even more ...... Delightful.
Frankly, Kelly broke into the couple on a complete whim, most likely some rash plan to "sample" Joe in some metaphorical way. Both he and Maggie agreed not to let that happen. Unfortunately, forcibly evicting uninvited guests is not an option. The couple's plan of action is to stay vigilant and entertain Kylie long enough that she will either get bored or be pulled away by some other random impulse. This is exactly what she is, she is a chaotic being, the balance of the universe to the orderly entities that inhabit Maggie's lovely containers.
"No, but seriously, what kind of flavor do you like this time?" The man asked. "Is it more of a pancake nightmare?"
"Oh? I see people are saying bad things about me. The blonde said with a smirk.
"I'm talking about objective facts," Maggie said firmly.
"That's the problem!" Your 'facts' drain all the fun," Kelly complained. "You know, I was super surprised when I heard that you had finally given Embrace Humanity a chance. I dare ask you what made you do this in the end?"
"I just realized that there was a convincing logic behind your jumble of gibberish."
"Wait...... Did you just admit that I was right?"
"In a sense, yes."
"Then spank me and call me Sally!" The miracle is real!"
"I'm not going to do either of those things," Maggie rolled her eyes, "no, they're not. β
"Wait, wait." Joe interjected. "Did Kelly give you the idea to do all this?"
"Yes," the girl reluctantly admitted.
"Wow. Kelly, it seems to me that I owe you a great favor. You have no idea how happy I have been since Maggie broke into my life. β
"Don't care, dear. Making life fun is all I have. Also, I guess Melinda Sparkle's outfit was your idea, right?"
"Well, sort of?"
"Oh? The blonde's eyes lit up. "I think it's a weird and awkward story. Gotta tell!"
"There's not much to say. I mean, there's a cult thing that I'm there, and before I realize it, we're here. β
"Joe signed up to be a sacrifice for the summoning ceremony and didn't realize it until the ceremony was over," Maggie said happily.
"What did he do?!" Kelly's mouth opened wide in disbelief. "What's wrong?!"
"By his own admission, he looked through the brochures they gave him and he said, 'He thinks what they say.'"
"Hah! Hahaha! Oh, that's so rich! BAHAHAHAHA !β
"Come on, Maggie!" Why do you say that! The man complained.
"Are you suggesting that I confuse the facts of your incredible feat of ignorance?"
"I mean, it's not like you haven't done it......"
"Also, you're cute when you're embarrassed," she said with a happy smile.
"Aha, oh my God. Phew!" Kelly finally calmed down. "Well, I think I understand now. That's the way it is. β
"What's going on?" The man asked him and Maggie what they were thinking.
"I couldn't figure out for the rest of my life how this eternal wallflower could get close to anyone, let alone an ordinary person. But now I understand. She met someone who was too stupid to be true, and her galaxy-sized brain couldn't comprehend their existence. Joe, my friend, you must be a stupid black hole, and I mean it best. β
"At least I know how to spell it." He muttered. "Actually, you've never answered what that 'vigil' or anything like that is."
Kelly blinked his eyelashes in confusion. A mischievous smirk appeared on her full lips. She stomped her legs, almost confirming or denying the presence of panties underneath the red knitted dress. Then she crossed her arms over her stomach and leaned forward, placing her huge cleavage in front and in the middle. With the level of sexual tension in the room reaching a level that no ordinary man could bear, she uttered a very suggestive word.
"Virgin".
βV-vi

The stupid guy blurted out.
"Oh yes," she whispered. Innocent, nervous, uncertain men both crave and fear a woman's touch. The mixed thoughts and emotions in their heads are absolutely delicious, and when paired with long, hard, longing, shouting feelings, it all becomes even more irresistible. β
"That's ...... Well...... That's ......"
"Ding Dong"
"Oh! Hey! The food is here!" Joe ran up as fast as he could, his words a little too fast. "Do you like fish and chips, Kelly?" It's better for you, because that's what I ordered! Hahaha! I'll get it. β
The man briskly walked to the door, opened it, and spent a long time trying to chat with the F&B automation on the other side. Kelly stared at his back with a confused smirk, undisturbed by Maggie's fierce light. It was an expression she had seen countless times before, with a woman warning a stealing prostitute to stay away from her man. However, she never imagined that her haughty, logical siblings would display such primitive emotions.
"That's good," Kelly said calmly.
"What is it? The black-haired girl asked faintly.
"This. You and him. You really care about him, right? Like, not as a test subject in your quirky experiments, but as someone you want to spend every moment with him. β
ββ¦β¦ I know, yes. Her gaze softened a little.
The blonde looked back at her and smiled. Not an arrogant smile, but a sincere, gentle expression of happiness. The discovery was a huge surprise, and Kelly loved it as much as Maggie. For completely different reasons, of course. Unlike her overly orderly siblings, Kylothelier the Devourer is unconcerned about the unique learning opportunities that unexpected events bring. However, the chaotic half of the cosmic balancing act is always excited about anything that changes the status quo, and the Observer Mahras Lake's feelings for humanity definitely fit that bill.
"Not bad. I'm serious. It's still a bit of a shame, though," Kelly said with a soft sigh. "I have a feeling that he's going to make a great snack, but I'm guessing you've already said that."
"That's true."
"Still, you know, they say sex and love aren'tβ"
"No," Maggie interrupted sharply.
"Yes. Well, whatever you want. But if you want to make things more interesting, you know where to find me. β
"I'll definitely erase your proposal from my memory in the future."
"Hmm. You go for it. In the meantime, can you stop turning my head into atoms? It's getting older. β
She had been doing it since the three of them sat down, having to constantly resist her attempts, which began to upset the blonde.
"I can."
"Would you like to?"
βNo.β
"yes, I guessed." Kelly sighed again.
Since these two Level 3 entities were able to completely destroy each other, Maggie didn't actually have a chance to kill each other's hosts. However, that wasn't her goal. By keeping the mental pressure on her, she makes sure that Kelly is so engrossed in avoiding her that he doesn't have time for Joe to try something funny. So even this ongoing stalemate is actually a win for Maggie. The only problem is that this blonde beauty doesn't need a supernatural mind to exude sensuality. Maggie believes that Joe will not succumb to such a courtship, but she doesn't like that Kelly's attitude makes him uncomfortable.
However, "seriously. I just need him for five minutes. Ten. β
βNo.β
"You can join if you want."
βNo.β
"Come on, it's going to be fun!" We'll make it a ...... Intimate experience!"
βNo.β
"Oh, yes, I forgot. You prefer to watch," replied with an arrogant smile.
Maggie took a deep breath. The woman clearly had no intention of giving up, so the girl decided to take action. Thankfully, she has a newly developed plan to deal with her. In the past few minutes, Maggie has remotely viewed the yacht's surveillance footage without permission. She had always wondered what Kelly was doing when he got on board. Now that she knew what form her siblings were using, she could confirm her suspicions. The two-hour delay is due to the "devourer's" tendency to be distracted by whatever "tasty" things she happens to come across. In this particular case, she had already "tasted" several "snacks" before finally reaching the cabin, but now she seemed to have one more thing that bothered her. If her owner's bank balance is anything to say, it would be difficult for her to get the money without outside help. Of course, she could always try to get these things by force, but Kelly knew that it was best not to go berserk when Maggie was around.
"Promise me not to seduce Joe again, and I'll buy you a hundred blueberry waffles."
The blonde's blue eyes widened, and her hands rested heavily on the small table.
"Deal!"
"This is the end of the agreement."
"Ah, that's bad."
Now it was Maggie's turn to smirk. Agreements between people who are also in the third category carry more weight than agreements involving human beings. Not even a chaotic creature can break any agreement with an entity of Order of equal or higher status. At the very least, doing so would anger Agrata, the Inquisitor. Kelly may be an impulsive pleasure-seeking idiot, but even she wouldn't be stupid enough to risk the wrath of her elders.
β¦ Possible.
