Chapter 34: Consequences

It is common practice in the Federation of Confederacy governments to classify extradimensional entities based on anomalous ability files. Often abbreviated as "AAA", it is essentially a hierarchical list of various paranormal phenomena from the least dangerous to the most dangerous. If a creature from outside the Veil can exhibit up to Level 3 abilities, then it is considered a Level 3 entity. To a large extent, that's all that matters. Factors such as body size, strength, speed, and durability of body form are not included in the classification, nor are the scope and extent of an individual's intelligence. That is why the shoggoths are the first group of people, although they can mop most of the second group in direct confrontation. However, stopping a general Goth is a simple matter of firepower, while intelligent and psionically active creatures are much trickier to locate and neutralize.

This is just one example of the inherent flaws that demonstrate the aaa system, but this is Fede

atio

The best that can be done. Due to the extreme lack of information, it is almost impossible to accurately assess the level of threat from all the paranormal entities that have poured into this reality. AAA's classification system is broad and vague because it contains too many puzzles and variables. Many of the secrets revolve around the dimensions that cosmic creatures crawl out of. This is in large part because the Milky Way can't see through the veil, and even if they could, they wouldn't be able to understand what's behind the veil. That universe is so foreign that no mortal mind that is not completely shattered can comprehend it.

To some extent, the reverse is also true. At Joe Mulliga

On the side of the dimensional boundary, most cosmic entities struggle to understand some basic things about the universe. The biggest problem is matter and the gravitational pull it produces, a concept that is completely alien to people like Maggie. Time isn't, but the aforementioned forces distort its flow, making it strange and confusing. Worse still, the natural forces of order and chaos are nothing more than ideas or concepts. The main thread between these two realities, which is actually the specialty of those who come from beyond the veil, is the power of thought. This is why beings like the observer Mahlatrak were able to reach the inhabitants of the galaxy and understand the material world through them.

Peeking into another dimension is relatively simple, but it's never easy to actually get into. In a cosmic irony, the difficulty of this transformation grows exponentially with the individual's psionic energy. For example, a third-class person cannot exhibit many wonderful and terrifying abilities unless he develops and trains his consciousness to be highly in tune with the native reality. It is this kinship that inevitably pulls these creatures back to where they came from, like an owner pulling on the leash of a noisy pet. The invaded dimension also has a natural counterattack, but this counterattack is much weaker.

Of course, there are ways and means to counteract these forces. One of these methods is to forge a suitable vessel and then connect it to a will from the material layer. The entity can then use this "ship" and "anchor" as a focal point, allowing it to maintain and reassert its contradictory existence in another dimension. This was the essence of the bond Maggie and Joe made when they first met, and Class Three got a lot out of it. However, while it gave the Observer a great deal of freedom to study and explore the so-called mysteries of humanity, the method was far from flawless. The biggest problem manifests itself in interstellar travel. For unknown reasons, the tear caused by the wormhole generator in reality takes away her ship and anchor, while leaving her alien consciousness behind. The third group, without any basis, is immediately pulled back to its original dimension through the chasm of the same reality, regardless of its own will.

The stock price skyrocketed after Kellotsey's unexpected departure, and it was no different. Marasrak exploded like ink in a sea of gray nothingness, its massive body dotted with countless mismatched eyes. Its bland surroundings were dyed red as the creature was once again ripped from Joe's side, frustrated. The commotion soon disappeared, as did the emotions that generated it. The observer then examines any messages or pending communications waiting for their return. The only such example is a letter from a sibling that simply says, "Well done, you big-eyed girl." Magh '

athlak replied with an email reminding Kelogh's the

This is definitely not a female dog. It knows that this is not what "devourer" means, but it also knows that a literal response is sure to annoy its confused opponents. However, the Observer did not dispute the "wide-eyed" part. Strictly speaking, it's true, and in a way, it's pretty cute.

Cosmic competition aside, this news made the Observer aware of a specific problem. That is, an agreement between it and its siblings. The "Devourer" agrees not to seduce Joe Mulligan again in exchange for a certain amount of pancakes. Marasrak kept his promise, but his siblings went after Joe anyway. Sorted. Strictly speaking, what happened was not an attempt to seduce. However, it is very close and can perhaps be counted as a breach of the agreement. The Observer is not 100 per cent sure about this, mainly due to some wishful thinking about further retaliation.

For better or worse, Marasrak has no right to decide these things. The Law of Order stipulates that uncertain matters must be referred to the judge Jagrata for final ruling. It will take a little time to get the attention of the highest authorities, but the Observer is in no hurry. Seconds in its home realm are much faster than Joe's home dimension. It had about an hour before it was summoned back, hopefully through a kiss, and until then, it had nothing else to keep it busy. The order, then, feels the need to remove uncertainty from its mind, which is dictated by its very nature.

Maggie's astral self imagines itself in the territory of the Inquisitor, and then it comes true. The Observer finds itself surrounded by projected images of perfectly proportioned geometric shapes, mostly cubes and octahedra. Its stretched tendrils were quickly and painlessly compressed until the entity became a twenty-sided equilateral structure, each face adorned with different eyes. The nearest cube approached until it was close enough to invade the visitor's private space, if such a thing existed in the universe. Then it goes around each axis, and its monotonous thoughts interrupt every movement.

'Entity'

athlak。 Title, Observer. Alignment, order. ”

Then it did the exact same reverse motion.

"Access Records. Transfers are welcome. ”

The cube emits a soothing yellow light for 1.3701 seconds.

"Roger." Maggie replied in a calm and restrained voice. "Request, open a new query."

"Admit it. Nature of Submission Inquiry. ”

"Conduct an investigation into possible breaches of obligations."

"Admit it. Submit evidence of the alleged breach of obligations. ”

A thin band of white light began to pour out of one of the Observer's eyes, almost as if printing an inhumanely long receipt.

"Present a memory chain," it declared.

The cube clerk opened like a cardboard box, and inside it was made up of many much smaller boxes containing strips of light that also glowed. The containers were quickly moved around until an empty one was brought to the front. Then, unable to find a better word, it absorbed the provided memory chain, and the whole arrangement closed like a nested filing cabinet.

"Roger. The analysis begins. ”

Magh '

Athlak patiently rotated itself around its twenty sides, waiting for the verdict. While it may seem very simple and basic, the cube it just spoke to was actually part of the consciousness of the Aglayakron, like most of the other shapes in the vicinity. To be more efficient, the adjudicator exists in this state, allowing it to process millions of queries simultaneously. This does not come at the expense of the quality of the work being done, as everything is thoroughly reviewed and carefully considered before a judgment is made. Of course, some cases are more tricky and complex than others, and therefore require more time and internal deliberation to resolve. The Observer's predicament is one such event, as it had predicted. If the solution is clear and straightforward, it should be solved personally, rather than leaving it to the highest authority.

That is, is this process dragging on for too long? Marasrak wasn't worried at first, but it went on for so long that it was almost time for its consciousness to be pulled back into Maggie's cute form. Alternating waves of green and red emanated from its presence, a sign of its growing urgency and eagerness to end the affair so it could return to Joe's. Thankfully, the cube soon stopped calculating, though not for the reason Maggie had hoped for.

"Be vigilant, the evidence submitted is considered insufficient to make a judgment," it declared. "Joe Mulligan, submit the full picture of the target"

The annoyance of The Observer immediately vanished, replaced by a wave of hesitation. Is it really necessary to divulge everything it knows about this person? In fact, yes. Maybe it wasn't like that a moment ago, but the moment the judge decided it was like that, it became like that. After overcoming this temporary obstacle, Marasrak quickly spawned over 120 memory chains, each much longer than the first. Coding inside is every observation made by Class III since they came into contact with Joe, hence this ridiculous volume. However, these things were folded up and stored in this cube fragment.

"Roger. The second phase of analysis begins. ”

And then...... More waiting, punctuated by greater impatience on the part of the Level 3 entity.

"An emergency situation was detected," the cube noted. "Request confirmation."

"Substantiated".

"Admit it. Notify the Marasrak entity when the analysis is complete. ”

β€œβ€¦β€¦ I understand. ”

A pure white light enveloped the tertiary entity for a few seconds before fading. This reaction also usually has an imperceptible flash in Maggie's eyes – a sign that the Observer has gained new knowledge. In fact, it may seem obvious in retrospect, but the entity didn't really consider the possibility that it wouldn't need to sit there all the time waiting for the shard to do its thing. After all, it never had anywhere else to go until it met Joe.

"Understanding is neither acceptance nor rejection," Cube noted.

"Apologies. Accept the offer. ”

"Acknowledge".

Now that it no longer needed its immediate attention, Malatrak imagined himself returning to his former position. Now that it had left the fifth-level shard, its icosahedral form was free to expand into its usual multi-eyed, multi-tentacle psionic mass. Then, calmly and calmly, it waited for a few more moments before feeling a familiar pull. It succumbed, and after an experience that would make anything sick to its stomach, Maggie giggled happily as Joe's lips pulled away from hers.

"You know, it's never going to go out of style," the man said with a laugh.

"What do you mean?"

"This." Wake up the sleeping beauty". No wonder they want to cram this into every fairy tale movie. ”

The girl's smile was even brighter. She couldn't fully understand why he was so happy about something so inconsequential, but he did, which in turn made her happy. The relationship may have started as a curious experiment, but in a way, Maggie realized that it wasn't just a distraction or a novelty. Giving and receiving love, giving yourself permission to feel rather than just thinking – companionship is a truly wonderful thing. She's missed so much in the last thousand years that she doesn't want to imagine going back in time. So, instead of doing this, she chose to focus on the present.

"Definitely. I think it's also novel to play an incompetent female character. ”

"Ah, here we go again." He sighed.

"Oh," she realized. "Clinical talk spoils the atmosphere, doesn't it?"

"Yes."

β€œβ€¦ There's something else bothering you, isn't it?"

β€œβ€¦ Yes. ”

"Is it because you're about to meet your father, and you just recently found out that he's been lying to you?"

"No, it's because the restaurant is selling out of tea biscuits."

Her first instinct was to glare at the lie she had revealed. The remark was immediately interrupted by her fully developed sense of irony. She deduced that obvious lies were deliberately used as a means of communication, and that telling obvious lies would be detrimental to the conversation. Maggie agrees with this sentiment and begins to formulate an appropriate response. She came up with four options – rolling her eyes and sighing, nodding and smiling, pretending not to hear, and irony. She thought the third option was the best option because it allowed her to explain the root cause of Joe's attitude more succinctly, a conclusion that took less than a third of a second in total.

"I'm right next to you," she said comfortingly.

"I know," he smiled, then frowned. "By the way, the tea biscuits at the restaurant are sold out."

"What? How?"

"I don't know. Someone made an announcement about it when you went out. ”

"It's unacceptable," Maggie was furious. "It's only 17.3 minutes and 6 seconds until tea time. How can we have afternoon tea without biscuits?"

The girl doesn't particularly care about the dim sum itself, but she has accepted that afternoon tea with cookies is a natural thing.

"Exactly!" Joe agrees. "You thought a British ship would make sure they had a good stock of biscuits - Kelly ate most of it, didn't you?"

"Indeed."

"Ah, gays."

While this conversation was underway, part of Maggie's massive brain had already invaded the ship's surveillance system. By looking at the records of the kitchen surveillance cameras, she found the second reason for the shortage. It appears that one of the staff members did not properly take care of the storage boxes associated with interstellar transportation. Before the jump, when artificial gravity is turned off, the container floats, and then when it restarts, the container falls violently. Undoubtedly, in the process, the crunchy treats are smashed to pieces, which means that tea time is either cancelled or wrongly scheduled. Unless, of course, Maggie uses her molecular manipulation abilities to put the cookies back together. Doing so requires a certain amount of time and effort, not to mention that it attracts a lot of unwanted attention. The only question is whether all this trouble is worth it, just to make her boyfriend a little happier.

The answer is "absolutely".

"Do you want me to solve the cookie crisis?" She said.

"No, it's fine. We can use scones instead. ”

Maggie wasn't quite sure what it was, so she searched her mind for an online dictionary database. According to this statement, scones are small cakes made with flour, fat, and milk that are unsweetened or slightly sweetened, and sometimes fruit is added. She didn't put that definition out because Joe didn't like it when she sounded like a "robot" every time she "lectured exactly according to the textbook." She does so occasionally whenever she wants to emphasize her point in an argument, but it's not that kind of conversation.

"Scones are an acceptable substitute for cookies?" She asked.

"Oh yes, you've never eaten before. They're good, yes. It's not that good, but it can be made with in a pinch. ”

"I understand," Maggie's eyes lit up. "In that case, I'd like to add starberry jam."

"You know there's another option than Starberry Jam, right?"

"I know," she nodded wisely.

"I mean, are you sure you don't want to try something else?" He suggested.

"Why would I do that?" Starberry Jam is my favorite. ”

"I know, but if you only have your favorite, you'll get tired of it."

"If that's the case, my feelings for you won't grow with each passing day."

Joe took a sharp breath, clenched his fists, gritted his teeth, and looked away as his heart rate spiked slightly. Maggie learns to interpret this reaction as "I can't believe my weird girlfriend is so cute." When she told the truth, she didn't expect to get non-verbal compliments, but she accepted them anyway.

"So, can you please pair my muffins with star berry jam?" She asked happily.

"Yes," the man shrieked.

This little problem is solved, and Maggie can stay with Joe as much as she wants, as long as Joe feels comfortable. Thankfully, that's all she has. In addition, the "emergency evacuation" that came to Kellotserier in person also seems to have had a positive impact on his treatment of space phobia. Since then, he no longer shows signs of anxiety or nervousness when stargazing, and is able to calmly enjoy the view of the universe with Maggie. The girl observed him for a few days to see if he would relapse from his old illness. Once she was convinced that this wasn't going to happen, she decided it was time to push one last one.

"Joe, I need your hard favor," she said after breakfast.

"Well, okay? He replied cautiously. "I mean, if that's all I can do, then sure, let's hear it."

"I want to go on a spacewalk with you."

In the past, the man would immediately and vehemently reject the offer. However, just like he is now, Joe is relieved to know that his safety is double-assured by modern space technology and his "space wizard" companion. He was still scared at the thought of putting on a spacesuit and stepping into space, but it was a controlled, measured worry, not an irrational panic. Therefore, it only takes a few minutes for the person to muster enough courage to overcome his remaining fears.

"Okay," he nodded. "Let's get started."

The couple decisively walked towards one of the airlocks. The spacecraft is currently in high orbit over the planet Gravel Seven, which means that passengers have the option to "swim". Joe and Maggie were given a set of cutting-edge suits and helmets, which were very light and biked like at home. A service machine checks all the equipment three times, making sure the couple understands what they should and shouldn't do. During this half-hour of preparation, Joe's anxiety slowly but surely rose to the point where he found it difficult to concentrate on the robot's pre-recorded words. Luckily, these instructions are all very basic and obvious things, such as "don't poke holes in your suit" and "don't untie the tether".

With all the checks and mandatory safety briefings done, Joe and Maggie are standing in the relatively cramped airlock. A display on the wall tells them that the air is being drained. After a few seconds, the light turned from blue to green, and the hydraulic door opened with an inaudible hissing sound. The man hesitated, faltered, as if paralyzed. The girl expected this, and she grabbed him tightly by the shoulder, reminding him that there was nothing to be afraid of. Joe immediately understood her intentions and relaxed a little. He took a few more breaths to harden himself and kicked into the void on the other side of the airlock. He couldn't help but stand up as he smoothly crossed the threshold. Before he realized it, he had officially left the ship and was floating in space.

Then, as if someone had turned on a switch in his head, the shock and anxiety were replaced by a light-hearted sense of freedom. This is due in large part to how easy and intuitive it is to move in zero gravity. All he has to do is go in a particular direction, or somehow turn around, and the spacesuit will do the rest. Its on-board computer will read his thoughts through his implant and then operate a row of miniature jets on his backpack as he wishes. It can even compensate for any limb swings or body twists to a great extent. There is no danger of Joe running out of fuel, electricity, or air, either, because all of this is provided by the boat through a tether tube. This is just one of several redundant systems that keep him safe.

Witnessing and experiencing all these characteristics firsthand, Joe's heart suddenly calmed down. He had been told about these things before, but his subconscious didn't believe them until now. Once the doubts were gone, he could run around like a child. He had experienced something like this many times in virtual reality, but, as usual, there was a unique thrill to do it in reality. He was so engrossed that it took almost a minute to remember that he had someone special to share his excitement with. He gave the command in his head, turned and walked towards Maggie, only to freeze again. He hesitated for a moment, then finally spoke, but she couldn't hear him. This is natural because sound cannot travel in a vacuum. It was for this reason that their spacesuits were equipped with short-range radios, and the Observer effortlessly received and deciphered Joe's signals.

"Maggie? Where's your spacesuit? This phrase has been passed down.

"I slipped out," she told him telepathically.

"But...... Why?"

"I don't feel well."

"Ahh Should already know. ”

He forgot for a moment that she didn't like to wear a helmet because it prevented her from twisting her hair.

"Do you want me to put it back on?"

Joe paused again as he pondered the question. Maggie casually pondered whether this matter really needed to be thought of. Ah, no, she knew that face. The man is torn between sticking to his personal preferences and respecting the girl's wishes. He probably thought she looked rather spectacular in a form-fitting spacesuit, judging by the repeated glances he involuntarily threw at her while they were still in the airlock. He does this every time she puts on a new outfit, even if it's just to show off her feminine curves a little, a pattern that Maggie mentally calls the "cosplay effect." She certainly appreciated the extra attention, even though she really didn't want to wear that kind of dress in this situation. Of course, if he asked her to do it, she would do it anyway.

"No, it doesn't matter," he finally replied. "You're perfect."

Once again, Maggie was pleasantly surprised by this unexpected compliment. She didn't even try to suppress the faint flush that rose up her pale cheeks as she moved closer to her loved ones. She held out two hands, which Joe grabbed without hesitation. Then she leaned forward and kissed him on his mask as a sign of her affection and gratitude. Of course, she would have preferred to make the gesture more appropriate, but that's all she can do for now. Maggie then sensed a hint of frustration in Joe, which she suspected was a reflection of her own frustration.

"Do you want to go back and make out with me?" She said.

"You can't believe it."

So the couple did just that, though in their hurry they forgot to wipe Maggie's lipstick off Joe's visor, leaving a very confused technician wondering how and when that piece of dirt came about. Admittedly, this is far from the strangest thing that happened on this voyage. Despite Maggie's best efforts, she can't erase all traces of her paranormal activity and the unwelcome arrival and sudden departure of her siblings. These leftovers are sure to end up attracting the attention of the paranormal expulsion agency, but she's not worried. That's not to say she took part in the cruise without their knowledge or permission. The most they can do is ask some questions about "Kelly" and Maggie will answer them truthfully. In fact, if Director Millington hadn't played a trick on the fan club, she would have confessed her brother a long time ago.

So, this time, Maggie allowed herself to take some shortcuts and focus her energy on more important things. Just like Joe. The person, through his own will and determination, has more or less completely overcome his personal shortcomings. Of course, she also helped, but she did not dare to claim in any way, shape or form that it was her own achievement. What's more, Joe is finally ready to face his father. From what his mother told them, Barry Mulligan was forced to work around the clock while serving his sentence. This means that he will most likely be stationed in a remote location and would not be able to get there without a private shuttle and a decent number of spacewalks. If Joe hadn't controlled his astrophobia, he wouldn't have traveled. At the very least, he didn't have enough intelligence to have the serious conversation that was sure to take place next. Once the obstacle was cleared, the only thing left was to wait until the yacht's course took them to Barry Mulligan (Ba

y Mulliga

) of the land of indentured servitude.

That's the main reason Maggie chose this tour. There were a lot of people in the Third Reich who had disposable pocket money and/or income, so there was no shortage of tourists who wanted to take a leisurely look at the universe. This, in turn, means that there are thousands of such voyages at any given time. It is almost inevitable that at least one of these yachts will pass through the Malton system. That said, shortly after Joe decided to face his fears and confront his father, a suitable cruise ship happened to pass by the Bart Pound 4, which was still quite lucky. If not, then he may have lost his courage before the right opportunity presented itself. Before the Queen Mary arrives at Malton, his resolve will likely waver, and Maggie will have to be there to encourage and support him throughout. She couldn't allow herself to be distracted.

So when she returns to her native dimension again, Maggie decides to postpone checking the queries she submitted to the adjudicator. Yes, the notification of the results is waiting for her. Yes, she does want to know what the consequences will be, if any, for her siblings. However, Joe's personal and family issues are more pressing issues, and Maggie doesn't want to confuse her mind with Kylothelier's shenanigans. That's why she chose not to open the message in question.

It certainly wasn't because she had a bad premonition.

That's ridiculous.

After all, the third type of order entity does not recognize the fragile and illogical concept of "bad feelings" as Atong.
