Chapter 308: Doomsday
"I don't agree."
Alfred, the old butler, walked up to Batman and said firmly.
Batman said: "I thought you were supporting me to find myself, and at first you said that something was wrong with me lately. β
"That's just because I'm worried, young master." Alfred said, "You're not acting properly. I'm worried about your safety, about maybe there's a conspiracy behind it, like no parent in the world would want to see their child hurt.
But your memory? IMHO, young master. I'm not sure if you need them to get better. β
Superman and Wonder Woman looked at each other, didn't speak, and stepped aside silently.
Obviously, this is someone else's business, and they may be Batman's only best friends (though they don't remember it now), but they all know that there is no room for them to interject at this time.
"What do you mean?" Batman frowned, "I'm in a situation where I can't handle this job at all, I've lost my experience, I've lost my skills. You should know that I almost didn't make it back alive today. β
"But is it possible that you didn't need that experience in the first place, young master? Maybe from the beginning, no one in this world should have to bear that? β
Alfred said excitedly.
"Listen to me, Bruce, even though you've always refused to listen to me before. But Batman was born from the terrified screams of a boy in an alley from the start. His mission, everything he did for others, was built on the pain of that child, the child I regarded as my own.
My whole life has been in vain trying to ignite a glimmer of light in that child's heart, not to let go of any faint hope. Even if I knew that there was a high probability that he would have died in that alley, I knew that the only survivor was an Avenger named Batman. But I just wouldn't give up, and I always fantasized about finding that boy named Bruce Wayne out there.
And at this moment, this is the closest moment. The last few days, as much as I'm worried, I'm afraid that what will happen to you is yet another conspiracy against Batman, but at the same time watching you go and live like a normal person is the closest I've come to making my dreams come true.
All I have been waiting for all my life is you now, without the trauma of Crime Alley, without missions and tasks, only yourself. Who you were meant to be.
Why can't it just go on like this? Why can't you think of this as a gift? A chance for you to finally get redemption from a long nightmare, drop it all, and pretend there's nothing underneath Wayne Manor, like a normal person, like yourself."
The old man began to sob unconsciously, until he could barely make the sound into a complete sentence.
But he finally couldn't finish it.
It's as if he's aware of what's going to happen next. As if everything was meant to be, Alfred was facing a stream called Destiny, watching his beloved child being swallowed up, but unable to do anything about it.
Batman was silent for a moment, then removed his helmet, revealing his blue eyes and meeting the old man's eyes.
"You know I have to."
When the memory of being Batman awakens, it is equivalent to the passing of Bruce Wayne.
The old man couldn't cry: "But I can't. How can I watch you die again? β
"But now that I know, I know I'm Batman." Bruce whispered, "So even if I don't have memory, I don't have skills, you know when something happens, I'm going to put on my cloak, just like I do today." There's no way I'm going to just turn around and walk away. β
Alfred was silent for a long time.
Then he sighed softly.
"You are. That's right. β
Bruce stretched out his arm and hugged the old man tightly.
"But you have to know that no matter what, what you mean to me will not change."
"I know." The old man said softly.
After the hug, Bruce put his helmet back on and turned to face the group.
"I'm fine here, start it. We need to know what's going on. β
The old wizard recited the incantation, and the crystal glowed with a light purple glow. Engram crystals hung in the air, ancient runes fluttering in the chaos of purple light.
The three of them looked at the dazzling light in unison, and their eyes widened involuntarily. A large amount of information, countless images seem to be carried in the water and roll through their minds, and the memories that have passed away are poured into them.
"I remember." Superman muttered, "Yes, that's right, I'm a Kryptonian, I am. Jonathan and Martha's child, I grew up on the farm."
Wonder Woman's eyes also glowed with a lilac glow: "My name is Diana Prince, the princess of Paradise Island, who has come here to spread peace."
Batman: "I'm Batman. β
Be concise and to the point.
β.β
The storm of magic cleared, and the three of them gasped slightly at varying degrees, as if they had all reclaimed their lost memories.
"Uh, are you all okay?" Kara asked tentatively.
"We're fine, Kara." Superman smiled and waved his hand, "And I think we should all remember what happened." β
"yes, we're put together."
Batman said in a deep voice.
"Lex Luthor has escaped from prison and made some new friends."
"Luthor caught our attention and kept us off guard against an attack by his allies. That amnesia spell took us from us. β
Diana gritted her teeth and said in a deep voice.
"Witches. Circe. β
Dressed in a magical robe, Cersei stood by the huge floor-to-ceiling windows, facing the bustling city.
"Looks like they've found themselves." Cersie whispered.
"Expected."
Lex Luthor's voice came from the room.
He walked out slowly, this time not wearing the heavy armor, but a "plain" hand-tailored suit. He sat lazily in his armchair, his smooth head reflecting the incandescent glow.
"After all. None of them are the type to give up easily, especially when it comes to finding who they are. Luthor said leisurely.
Cersei snorted, as if a little unhappy with the failure of her spell, and didn't say anything more.
"But it doesn't matter, it was just an attempt. If they don't even know who they are when we beat them, the fun will be greatly reduced."
Luthor sneered.
"Are you so sure, Luther?"
A hoarse voice rang out from the back of the room.
"You should know, after all. That's the Justice League. β
"Oh sure, you should have faith in usβnot just meβDeathknell." Luthor smiled, "After all, that's what our team came together for.
This army of doom! β
The long-lost four watches, nine thousand words!
