Chapter Twenty-Nine: Gwent

When Wayne walked out of the dark corridor with Geralt, who was trembling as he walked, Torvielle, who was guarding the gate, immediately greeted him.

Her face was solemn, her eyes scanned Wayne's body, and she quietly breathed a sigh of relief when she saw that he had no obvious injuries.

Although they hadn't seen it with their own eyes just now, even though the three of them were separated by a corridor, they could still hear the sound of a honeycomb bomb exploding and the frantic roar vaguely mixed with countless monsters.

The battle that took place there was obviously more fierce than they had imagined.

After seeing Torruville, Wayne was not polite, and said directly to the female elf leader:

"Torluville, Geralt is a little injured, let the doctor in the camp help him heal."

As he spoke, he pointed to the two subordinates beside the female elf and said:

"Also."

"You arrange for a few people, bring torches with me, and go to the place where I just fought to carry the corpses."

"The smell of blood there is too strong, and if you don't clean it up in time, monsters will soon gather again."

Torruville nodded, turned his head and whispered a few elven words to the elven marksman beside him who looked quite capable, and then turned back to Wayne and said:

"I've got it arranged, Wayne, let's go there first."

Wayne didn't talk nonsense, turned around and led her and the heavily armored dwarven warrior through the corridor and back into the underground pond.

This time, however, the trio didn't move forward in the dark, with Torvielle and the dwarven warrior holding torches to light the way ahead, while Wayne held a silver sword and guarded the front in case something unexpected happened.

As they walked through the archway to the terrace of the pond, the scene in front of them made both Torruviel and the dwarven warriors gasp.

I saw that on the semicircular terrace at the exit, it was covered with a large amount of blood and broken limbs, with some foul smell of blood in the air, and the ground was densely packed, and there were dozens of corpses of water ghosts.

Judging from the sword marks and flame burns on their bodies, it was obvious that they were all killed by Geralt and Wayne.

Torruviel was stunned for several seconds, but quickly came back to her senses, she restrained the expression on her face, looked at Wayne with a more serious look, and asked:

"Wayne, what are we going to do now?"

Wayne still didn't let his guard down, although the little fog demon that sneaked up on Geralt was killed by him, but the area of this pond was not small, and he couldn't be sure if there were still little fog demons lurking in other locations.

Hearing Torruvier's question, he thought about it for more than ten seconds and said:

"Let's get the corpses of these water ghosts out first, it's better to burn them, and even if you want to bury them, then bury them farther."

"Otherwise, their corpses are likely to attract corpse-eating creatures underground."

"Also, get some more lighting tools, the other side of this arch bridge is connected to another area, you better arrange for someone to guard near the gate to prevent other monsters from rushing out from that side."

"I'm going to check all the entrances and exits here, so I don't know where to get a monster out of nowhere."

The elf nodded, taking Wayne's words to heart, ready to arrange for someone to complete it later.

Speaking of which, Torruville was still a little lucky at this time, thankful for the good fortune of herself and the others.

I didn't expect that there was such a large group of monsters living so close to them, and if they hadn't happened to find Wayne and Geralt, two witches, maybe when, they would have been killed by the monsters that poured out of here.

After about ten minutes, the elven marksman from before walked in with a dozen warriors, they were first surprised by the large number of monster corpses here, and then under the command of Torruvier, they began to carry the corpses out one by one in an orderly manner.

Burning corpses has become a custom in this era, and all the people of the Northern Kingdom know that if there are many corpses that are not disposed of, or are too lazy to bury them directly in the earth, then it will not be long before many evil spirits, ghouls, scavengers and other corpse-eating creatures will emerge from the ground, bringing danger to people.

No one knows exactly how many monsters live in the underground areas that humans can't explore, and the light and burning flames can drive those monsters away to a certain extent.

This may also be one of the reasons why the Eternal Flame Church can be widely spread among ordinary people.

However, considering that the smoke emitted by the burning corpses might reveal their location, Toruvelle chose in the end. Have these corpses transported deeper into the forest and bring these monsters back into the wild.

A group of people were busy doing their duties, and it took less than half an hour for Wayne to fight, but by the time a group of them had disposed of the corpses and bloodstains, searched the entire underground pond, and completely solved the worries of the area, three or four hours had passed.

At the end of the day's work.

Wayne said goodbye to Torruville, who was still arranging affairs, and dragged his somewhat tired body back to the camp, preparing to look for Geralt.

But I saw this sophisticated witcher, sitting across from a dwarf, sitting around the campfire, not knowing what he was fiddling with.

They were surrounded by several elves and dwarves watching the excitement.

With curiosity, Wayne took a closer look and found that Geralt was wearing several bandages around his body at this time, and he was wearing a thick black cotton jacket outside, and he was looking intently at some beautiful cards in his hand, as if he was struggling with which card to play.

And the dwarf opposite him also looked at Geralt with a nervous face, and the cards between the two were neatly arranged in six columns, and seven or eight Ducat's gold coins were stacked together, placed in the center of the cards, which should be the bet of the two of them.

The surrounding audience watched the battle between the two with excitement and anticipation, and it seemed that the card game had a great appeal.

Seeing this, Wayne had already guessed what they were doing?

It's actually playing Gwent. One

He had thought that this kind of game had not yet been born, or that even if it did, it would only be a few dwarves entertaining themselves.

Unexpectedly, just after coming down the mountain, I came across this kind of interesting game that was widely spread in later generations.

And it seems that this is also Geralt's first encounter with Gwent, after all, in the past two years with White Wolf, he has never heard him talk about this kind of game in Kylemohan.

Seeing that Geralt was still hesitating how to play his cards, Wayne also came behind him curiously, wanting to see what deck the white wolf had in his hand.

And just a casual look for a few seconds, the experienced Quint gambling king Wayne has already thought of how to win.

However, this was a gamble between Geralt and the dwarves opposite, and although he knew how to win, he would not interrupt them by interjecting at such a time.

And maybe it was because he was contaminated with the breath of a water ghost, and he was just a little closer when he was discovered by Geralt.

However, the white wolf was in high spirits at this time, and just turned his head to look, and after finding that it was Wayne, he nodded very casually, and then refocused his attention on the gambling game.

Unfortunately, in GWENT matchups, skill and luck are required, as well as a strong deck, and individual will rarely plays a role.

Eventually, after a few minutes of dying and struggling, Geralt lost to the dwarf on the opposite side due to his lack of experience and a strong Gwent card.

And the few Ducats earned from Misha's commission were all lost before Geralt could warm them up.
