Chapter 3: College Basketball
The 1996 NCAA was most notable by Allen Iverson.
Although after the bowling alley fight in '93, the college basketball team didn't like this unruly little player, and the basketball elite schools didn't give invitations.
But when Georgetown University really took Iverson into its pocket, many prestigious schools secretly took lemons.
Even though Iverson came to college with some injuries, his draft prospects were not affected in any way.
Regrettably losing the championship, Iverson did not shed tears, and after the game, at the press conference, he was still the focus of the media's pursuit.
"Even if we lose, with the No. 2 seed, we're going to make it to the finals, not the Eastern Conference finals, but the finals, and I'm going to bring the championship to Georgetown University!"
No one cared about Iverson's bragging, and the media reporters on the scene liked such statements.
Unlike Ray Allen's modest and cautious answer, Iverson was obviously more emotional, and with his big eyes that showed emotion, many media outlets also whispered applause for a while.
"Allen, can you talk about the last offense? Is it Lee's defense that interferes with your shot? ”
Big media people are looking forward to Iverson to complete the lore, and such a championship script is to everyone's taste.
Iverson didn't want to recall the round, but fortunately he noticed that the sports media at the scene didn't find out that he was blocked, so he immediately pretended not to care:
'The defence didn't interfere with me, I just didn't shoot, so obviously God wasn't on our side tonight.
"As for Lee, maybe he should go to Hollywood and get a job and act in some kung fu movies, by the way, his fists are too soft!"
Looking at Iverson, whose right face was slightly swollen on the stage, teasingly posing in a gesture, the media in the audience laughed good-naturedly.
They didn't ask about the conflict for face, but Iverson took the initiative to mention it, and some media reporters exchanged heads and quickly gave comments:
"Aaron Iverson is really ripe!"
“...”
By the time head coach Jim Calhoun returned to the locker room with Ray Allen, everyone had already packed their bags.
Some black journalists were less fond of the gifted Ray Allen, believing that he behaved more like a white man and spoke more like a British.
"The British Boy" is a parody of Ray Allen.
But both the high school coach and the current coach Calhoun are particularly fond of the disciplined and mature Ray Allen, who thinks he can be a real leader.
"Well done, Lee! I finally won a championship in college. ”
Ray Allen, who took his bag, smiled and patted Li You on the shoulder, his best friend in college.
Li You just smiled, he was not satisfied with such a result, after entering the team, the freshman was the bench in the bench, and the sophomore was considered to be on the bench.
The stubbornness of collegiate basketball makes it impossible to be powerful, and even a genius like Ray Allen started his freshman year off the bench.
"Get a night's rest, we'll have to leave tomorrow, and when we get to Indianapolis, everybody will get their way up."
"I don't want to lose to Colgate!"
Jim Calhoun is definitely the team's deserved boss, having coached at UConn for 10 years, and players have to be obedient when asked.
"Okay, Coach, we're all set!"
Travis Knight, a big white man, hastened to make a guarantee on behalf of his teammates that he is now the leader of the team after reaching his junior year.
Everyone followed suit, and Coach Calhoun nodded with satisfaction, no matter what the final result is, winning the Great East Conference championship can be regarded as an explanation.
Last year, the Concordiger women's basketball team won the NCAA championship, while the men's basketball team stopped in the top eight, which is somewhat embarrassing.
The lack of talent is no excuse and Coach Calhoun is looking forward to an even better result this year.
...
Flying across state lines is not pleasant, and the players are not big stars, so naturally they do not enjoy the treatment of NBA team charter flights.
In this age of lack of entertainment, the only pastime options available are playing cards and reading magazines.
Ray Allen flipped through the magazine in his hand, and then said excitedly:
"The Bulls have a chance to break the regular season record, and this year Michael Jordan will win his fourth championship, and no one is his opponent!"
In 1996, 9 out of 10 people who liked basketball were Jordan fans, and Lee Woo was not as fanatical as Ray Allen, and for him, making money was the most important thing at the moment:
"I bet the Bulls will get 72 wins!"
Li You, who was holding his chin, raised an eyebrow at Lei Allen, this kind of information was common sense for him.
"72 wins? It's an exaggeration, but maybe Michael Jordan can do it! ”
"If it weren't for the family, I would definitely be a senior in the draft like Jordan, Lee, I suggest you play for another year, and next year the head coach will give you more playing time."
Seeing that Ray Allen had turned into a brainless fan, Li You secretly pouted:
"It's not about the stats, it's just that those damn scouts look at people with colored eyes, I'm just a little bit smaller in muscle, and these guys describe me as a middle school student!"
"Data doesn't change bias, I need a job that makes money, I have to pay off student loans, there are so many places to use money."
Ray Allen shrugged his shoulders, he had all his sons and could understand Li You's thoughts, but as a good friend, he finally said honestly:
"You may not know Kevin Ollie, he's about the same height as you, but maybe he's more explosive."
"He went into the draft in '95 and went undrafted, and I remember his college stats were 6.3 points per game."
"There are too many central defenders in the league, so you have to be mentally prepared to go into the draft this year."
Li You nodded helplessly, this is also the reason why he doesn't like college basketball, last year he was in the atmosphere group, averaging 4.7 points per game, and he was the ace player of the atmosphere group.
This year, he averaged 9.8 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game, which ranked fourth on the team, but he could still only play off the bench.
Coach Calhoun takes good care of him, but most of the main positions are occupied by a few juniors.
Except for Ray Allen, who has a bit of a losing privilege, everyone has to run tactics step by step and grind for offensive time.
Thinking of the uncertain future, Li You also had a trace of hesitation in his heart, and then these thoughts of retreat were thrown behind him.
As a hanger, he needs to go to a more talented league!
...
On March 14, the RCA Dome arena in Indianapolis filled to capacity, cheering on nearly 40,000 spectators.
In the first round of the NCCA Championship, the Colgate University vs UConn match was played for 7 minutes and 43 seconds.
The score came to 21-5 after Ray Allen hit a three-pointer from outside the three-point line on the right wing.
UConn suddenly played a wave of 15-0 after the opening game, and many fans shouted happily as they watched Ray Allen, who celebrated the goal with one finger on the sky.
Coach Calhoun is very happy with his team's performance and maybe they can make a breakthrough this year.
Li You, who was on the bench, returned to his seat after waving a towel, and sighed helplessly:
"When it comes to the tailwind bureau, everyone is brave..."
