2.3----- Cats can be a little arrogant
I sat down in the first alley, took a break, and squatted on my hard-earned bread to catch my breath. The croissants were already cold, but they were quite hot inside. Wisps of steam waft out of the bite while running, swirl gently in the air, and then disappear.
I would be so happy to eat a meal full of bread. Haha, I tasted the croissants, the soothing taste filled my mouth, enjoy the meal for as long as you can. The proper pace was boring, though, and I didn't eat all day, and it felt better to rush through the leftover croissants, and given that my body was much smaller, the croissants were enough to satisfy me, and even without the steak, I wouldn't starve to death tonight.
The sun is setting. I really don't want to wander around an unfamiliar city in the middle of the night, but it doesn't seem wise to stay in the alleys. According to every novel I've read, alleys are the go-to places for thugs and robbers.
There were slight water droplets on the roof, making the ground a little damp and uncomfortable. Of course, there is a slight red stain on one wall. Of course, most of it is rotting food scraps, foul smells, then the alley hasn't been well cleaned for at least a few years.
That being said, the walls of one of the buildings were filled with bursts of chit-chat and cheerful laughter, and the night sky was a beautiful one, with stars twinkling between the rooftops. As far as the alley goes, the alley almost feels like a home.
Looks safe, or maybe these threats are really good at hiding and ambushing. But hopefully not the latter. Well, if there are threats waiting to kill me, then they are stupid. I sleep outside and I'll have to learn how to fight back, but it probably won't hurt to stay one night.
I looked around the only slightly dirty alley that would serve as my (hopefully temporary) home. The ground was wet and uneven, I couldn't find a good spot on it, and I woke up drowsy and covered in rubble at best. They have a couple of wooden crates on the sides that fit perfectly my size and look quite comfortable, and the gaps in the boards would allow the crates to sink into my body and my body would be a mess in the morning. A blanket will solve this problem, but these are not exactly in the alleys. If only I stole the baker's tablecloth too......
Putting aside my self-esteem for not being a worse person (worse cat?) Neither felt quite right), I continued to look down the alley, and my eyes lit up when I saw a dark box covered with faint glowing runes. It looks similar to what the baker uses as an oven, though it's larger and the runes appear to be a bit crimson. The ground around it isn't as damp as the rest of the alley, and the box exudes warmth. That's it! I could curl up next to it and keep my fur dry all night while bathing in the box's welcoming aura. I'm still going to have things stuck to my fur, but I'm going to be comfortable.
The alley is clearly not very well maintained, and the ground here may have been trampled by anyone a decade ago, but it still hasn't been cleaned up. And the ground that is stepped on is the best situation. What if someone pees on the ground around a warm box, or spits on it, or people do other disgusting and indescribable things in the alley? After sleeping in a place that can be extremely disgusting, I have to remove all the dirt, sand and pebbles from my fur myself in the morning. How do cats usually groom? They lick it?. Repeatedly.
I'm not stupid or crazy enough to lick up decades of dirt. If I lick the ground of the alley, if I want to sleep warm tonight and not die of 20 new diseases tomorrow, I have to climb into the box.
Jumping doesn't work, it's a few inches bigger than the previous table, but small obstacles like this don't stop me from getting the sleep I want.
I ducked behind a crate and put all my pathetic weight behind it, managing to flip it over to its open side to form a footstool. Succeed! Barely able to move a small box, after a few minutes of pushing and slight humiliation, it fell into place. I climbed onto it, leaned back on my hind legs, gave myself a moment of refreshment, and jumped.
When I jumped, I had a sharp pain in my left hind leg, but I didn't let it down. I leapt from the air with precision and speed, and this time, all four of my legs landed gracefully on the target. I put it on top of the box.
My paw screamed in pain as I pressed hard against my paw, what the hell was going on there? Still not fully adapted to my body? I struggled to bring it into my vertical field of vision, and a part of the box I jumped off followed me uninvited. Stupid fragments. It was useless to bite it, it was impossible with my claws, it was firmly stuck in my claws and I had no way to pull it out. How convenient. Ha. The anguished cat squealed a little.
"The day is over." I curled up on the box and muttered to myself, almost immediately falling asleep. It's warm to the touch and indeed a pretty cosy place for my paws. Chaos aside, it's time for the best part of the day: sleepingγγγγγγ
I went back to Radia's room, because a calm dream simply couldn't ask for it. The goddess doesn't seem particularly pleased.
Slowly, she began to speak in careful words. "So, I admit that something may have gone wrong during the summoning process."
"Oh wow, really? I barely noticed. I spit.
Her brow furrowed a little irritatedly, but she continued. "Your soul should occupy the body prepared for you, which looks for the most suitable vessel near the Arch of Summoning. In general, we take precautions to ensure that there is only room for you to occupy the prepared body. Someone who is lazy and doesn't even notice the carcass of a cat nearby is obviously more suitable for your soul. Okay, so the reason I'm like this is because someone hasn't cleaned up the location of the weird transdimensional, soul-stealing necromantic rituals. Great.
"Can you fix this?" I demanded.
She moved a little on the throne. "My power over that world has been greatly weakened for the time being, and it is a very important and costly ritual. I dream occasionally, but I can't do things like transplanting my soul into another body. β
"So I'm trapped like a cat in a strange world with no way out. It's so cool, thank you very much. β
"I'm really sorry, it's rare, but unfortunately it happened. However, we are running out of time, and you are missing out on a lot of needed information. She looked genuinely sorry, and I wanted to know more, so I listened carefully. The world you now inhabit is used to train your skills and levels, which you can check by keeping an eye on your status. You can train to gain skills and reuse them to strengthen them.
Different skills can lead to different careers, just as your skill level is the same, and so are you. Higher levels will be associated with more and stronger skills. If you want to kill the Demon King, both of these improvements are essential, soβ"
"Blah, blah, blah." I interrupted her, was she serious? "Do you still want me to kill the Demon King and stop the war? After all this? What the hell is it?
She narrowed her eyes and looked at me coldly. "Definitely. You have received the gift of another life, and you will keep your promise even if there are some complications. β
"What if I don't?" I challenged her. She's wrong here, we all know it.
She dared to smirk. "When your life ends in this world, you will cease to exist. There are no second chances. She said smugly.
Is she kidding? I can be just as complacent. "Okay, that's okay."
"Excuse me?" She was incoherent.
"If I don't, wouldn't I 'cease to exist' or something happen? I'll just live your comfortable life and that's it. Of course, no longer being there sounds scary, but once it happens, I don't have to deal with it. My favorite part of the day is sleeping.
Radia rose from her throne and towered above me. "Nope. This is not allowed. I have resurrected you, mortal, and you must defeat the Demon King.
I really think she overestimated the battle between the cat and the demon king." That's the rules, that's how everything works. It's not a free posthumous vacation for you, and your life is at stake. Don't let me get in the way. β
"But you just said that your power has been greatly weakened, right? Can't you influence the world? Continue, intervene. I bet on you. β
I felt a slight tremor as Radia disappeared for a second. Is something wrong? Am I being too arrogant for my rudeness to a goddess?
"Are you kidding? You didn't go out for two hours! Why now? Radia complained.
Of course! It's a dream, and my body is about to wake up! I don't have to argue with my least favorite newcomer anymore!
"Well, it was a pleasure to chat and it was really eye-opening, and it's great that we can meet like this. I gotta go, goodbye! I excitedly told the goddess that she was starting to fade and fade, and she and the surrounding room became translucent.
"No, don't do that! Don't leave like this mortal. We have a lot to discuss, do you hear that? β
I did hear her, but she didn't need to know. When my dreams were shattered and I woke up, I warmly waved goodbye to her, leaving Radia and her empty menace behind.
