Chapter 8: Girls & Girls
Behind the door is a hallway leading to a living room, four bedrooms, a kitchen, two bathrooms. The layout of the house is an authentic human room, the appliances are fully equipped, and the plain is disappointing. Luo Qi guessed that the house was the housewife's final say, and the Guan family's grandmother cleaned it up comfortably and neatly. The only thing that was uncomfortable was that the windowsill was full of dead flowers, but that was only because no one had lived here for a long time.
Du Zhengyi disappeared into the corridor of the room so quickly that Roach didn't even see where he went, he paced slowly into the dimly lit living room and turned on the light. The furnishings in the room are Chinese, and the rosewood-colored furniture warms up this old house without the smell of life.
The first thing Luo Qi saw when he entered the house was the piano table in front of the south window, with a guqin on it, and the piano cover was half hidden. The two rose chairs under the window were placed slightly skewed, as if someone had just gotten up and left. He walked over and put the cover back on as if he had compulsive disorder. When I turned around, I saw a narrow desk against the north wall, with some furnishings on the desk and a pair of words hanging on the wall.
There is a small table and two circle chairs in front of the desk, which is a very honest old pattern. On one of the chairs was reclining a lute, as if someone had just played it and put it down. But when Roach got closer and looked closer, he noticed that a layer of ash had fallen on the lute and a string had been broken. There is a jade Ruyi on the small table, as if it is often played with in the hand, and the jade is rubbed very warm. But how ridiculous, the family didn't get their way after all.
He was a little surprised, and unconsciously slowed his steps. There is a strange feeling everywhere here, as if the owners of the house have been living in an elegant and soothing way, until something happens, and they are caught off guard and leave in a hurry. Life seemed to be playing a song "Qingping Music", but the strings suddenly broke at this point. This made him feel uncomfortable like a thief, as if he had inadvertently intruded into someone else's life and peeked into someone else's privacy.
He froze, looked up at the calligraphy hanging on the wall, the calligraphy seemed good, but he couldn't make out what was written, so he quickly lost interest. On the table below was an antique porcelain vase, with a bouquet of dead flowers inserted. Next to the porcelain vase is a picture frame with a family portrait embedded inside. At first glance, Roach didn't feel anything wrong. He was fascinated by the photographs because all the people in the photos were dressed in a very period style, with the men wearing robes and horse coats, and the women wearing old cheongsams. But this is not a strange thing, Rocky knows that it has been popular to take family portraits like this lately, and his human friends have mentioned it.
His gaze scanned the Republican-style set in the photograph, trying to make out the huge gramophone and the bulky telephone, and studying with interest the clothes of humans a hundred years ago, and glanced currily at the people in the photograph. Their faces were all soft, no different from a normal family photo, judging by the number of people it should be a very complete family portrait, and the thought that half of the people in this photo were now dead made Roach feel real sadness for the first time.
With a hint of mourning, he carefully looked at all the faces in the photo, the old couple, their children, sons-in-law and ...... Luo Qi was suddenly stunned, silently counted the number of people in the photo again, and shouted in surprise, "Du Zhengyi!" βγ
After shouting, he grabbed the photo frame, turned around and ran, who knew that there was a flower in front of him, and suddenly there was a figure. He was frightened into a cold sweat, and stood up urgently, as soon as he calmed down a little, he immediately realized that in this ghostly place where there was no human figure, the only person he could bump into was Du Zhengyi.
But the guy appeared in front of him silently, and he certainly didn't come in by walking, and his ability to travel through space was as natural as he said. Luo Qi barely swallowed the swear words in his throat, and didn't care about being jealous of Du Zhengyi's ability, so he stuffed the photo frame of the family photo into Du Zhengyi's hand, he didn't know how to describe his findings, and roared in a highly generalized manner, "Look! β
Du Zheng grabbed the point with a glance, and said with a little annoyance, "There are two girls in this family? β
Luo Qi echoed Du Zhengyi's emotions and said indignantly, "That girl told her family everything cleanly, and even told her grandparents' love history, but why didn't she mention that she had a sister?" Is this girl dead or alive now? The most important thing is about Guan Xinyue's personal information - whether we got it or I checked it myself on the Internet, there is no place to show the existence of a girl. β
Du Zhengyi was much calmer than Luo Qi, he just stared at the family photo and thought, Luo Qi couldn't think of a reason, so he also stared at the photo. The photo was taken at least three years ago, Guan Xinyue is much smaller than now, but her appearance has not changed much, and she was also a delicate appearance at that time, combing her doll head with bangs, kneeling in the first row of the photo. Her head was pressed intimately against that of another girl, who sat perfectly symmetrically with her, but only the sitting position was the same. The girl's age is a few years older than Guan Xinyue, with a quirky face and a high ponytail, which is ...... at first glance
ββ¦β¦ At first glance, there is no blood relationship. Du Zhengyi muttered, exactly in line with Luo Qi's guess.
In fact, the nameless girl's appearance is more like the young woman in the photo, and Rocky guesses that she may be the daughter of Aunt Guan Xinyue.
"If she were a girl from a mage family, she would probably have been in our world since she was a child, and she could have no human identity at all unless necessary. The information we take is all from human society, and it is normal that there is no record of her existence. Du Zheng thought for a while and put down the photo frame.
Luo Qi thinks that what Du Zhengyi said is very reasonable, but the strange thing is that Guan Xinyue has no reason not to mention her "stepsister", and he can see from Du Zhengyi's expression that he must also feel annoyed.
"Did you find anything over there?" Luo Qi couldn't think of an answer, so he decided to put the question aside for a while and ask Du Zhengyi if he had any discoveries.
Du Zheng glanced at him and did not answer, but motioned for him to follow him. They walked out of the living room and through the hallway to the kitchen at the end of the hallway, where there was a small door leading to the backyard.
The door was directly opposite the front door, connected by a corridor, and the two doors were almost the same size. Du Zhengyi had already pushed the door open, and Luo Qi could keep seeing the low earthen wall in the backyard and the mountains beyond the earthen wall. He walked to the door and took a closer look, the ground in the backyard had a clear ditch, and at first glance it was a vegetable garden, and there was a well in the middle of the vegetable field, which was more like the yard of an ordinary farmer than the front yard. Beyond the low earthen wall, he could see the mountain forest behind, although he knew that the Guan family lived in the northernmost part of the village, but he didn't expect this place to be so close to the mountain forest. Although the mountain behind the village is not a high mountain, the black and oppressive trees in the mountain are mixed, and there is a faint fog in the forest in the middle of the mountain, and there is some atmosphere of deep mountains and old forests.
"...... here," Du Zhengyi looked at the scene in front of him and whispered in contemplation.
"There's no way there's a wild boar here." Roach said.
Du Zhengyi ignored him, "There is something wrong here." β
Roach raised an eyebrow and silently asked him what was wrong.
"Do you remember that Guan Xinyue said at the time that after their father and daughter entered the courtyard gate, they passed by the well in the courtyard." Du Zhengyi said.
Luo Qi nodded, Guan Xinyue said that he heard a heavy wheezing sound at the wellhead, just like the gasping sound of her stepfather's emphysema, which he still remembered.
Du Zhengyi continued, "Nothing else, she said that the well water is used to water the vegetable garden, which can be matched, and there is indeed a vegetable field in the backyard." But the question is, how could she pass by the well in the backyard when she came in through the front door? We looked in the front yard, and there was no well. Unless she came in through the backyard door, but outside the backyard door was a path up the hill, and there was no way to drive. β
"Or maybe they got out of the car through the front door and found out they didn't have the yard key, so they decided to jump over the wall through the back door, and the backyard wall is much shorter than the front yard wall." Roach said. However, he just dealt with Du Zhengyi casually, and he didn't care much about this explanation. Yesterday he felt a little afraid of the well with emphysema, but now that there was such a strange thing, curiosity had overtaken fear, and he couldn't wait to go and see it.
His active temperament flareed up, and he took the first step and jumped out on the threshold of the old house. At that moment, he heard Du Zhengyi "tsk" behind him, and almost at the same time there was a slight tingling on his face, and his hair made several loud crackling sounds in the dry air of the north, and he suspected that his hair stood up.
Du Zhengyi's "tsk" turned into a curse, and his voice was anxious, "With a hairball like you, I'm really fucking to death." β
Roach stood in surprise with a "ah", as if he was in a very subtle static field, and his senses were very acute. But after a slight and sharp stimulus, his senses went to the other extreme, everything became unclear, he could see the world, he could feel the world, but he was alienated from everything around him, as if swallowed by a huge and invisible blister.
He stopped, but the ground beneath his feet moved vigorously. He hadn't panicked yet, mainly because the change came too quickly, and he hadn't had time to believe that something had happened to him, and he had already been swept into a turbulence.
His eardrums bulged uncomfortably, his ears began to ring, his bowels seemed to churn, and his head began to dizzy. The ground spun at an accelerated pace, or he began to spin on his own, and his senses became more and more blurred. His vision also became extremely unreliable, he couldn't see the mountains and forests he was facing, and there were a few not-so-beautiful bands of light that flickered in front of his eyes.
At this critical moment, he instinctively remembered the life-saving skills of several mages, but he didn't know if his strength was enough to run the skills, and he wasn't sure which one to use. The opportunity was very short, fleeting, and in this moment of hesitation, he suddenly felt that his consciousness began to dissipate, as if the thing that had been condensed into thought began to disperse.
Fear swept over his heart for the first time, and his heart must have been beating wildly, giving him some regain some sense. If his body was human, it was now the adrenaline level that had increased, and he wanted to seize the opportunity to desperately resist the consciousness that was about to melt. Countless lights and shadows and subtle noises flickered in his consciousness and then disappeared, and he gasped as if he were drowning in his imagination.
He struggled, gathering the last shred of his thoughts, and before he could do anything, he crashed into a rock in the turbulence, and the force was so great that he almost vomited. He was so pained by the blow that he opened his eyes suddenly, the feeling of drowning came and went quickly, and when the feeling of dizziness was completely gone, he was surprised to find that he was no longer in the hospital. He was lying on all fours on the marble floor of the hallway, and then his body collapsed like a puddle of mud, as if he had just experienced weightlessness, his mind was clear, but he had lost the ability to mobilize his muscles.
He struggled to raise his neck, and he still had time to take one last look at Du Zhengyi. The latter was standing in the courtyard, and by the last ray of daylight, Luo Qi saw a look of surprise on his face, and the surprise turned to an epiphany at the last second, and then Du Zhengyi disappeared without a trace.
"Don't ......" Luo Qi shouted in a dumb voice, don't be him, the unlucky one should be himself.
It was getting dark.
Luo Qi looked at Du Zhengyi with blank eyes like an indecent corpse, shocked and ashamed of the place where Du Zhengyi had disappeared, and then turned to anger.
The sequelae of weightlessness were helpless, and he could only lie motionless. But the symptoms disappeared quickly, and Roach quickly recovered using his body's abilities, and he got up from the ground in embarrassment. He took two steps forward with an uncoordinated limb, stepped on the threshold with one foot, and the oncoming wind pierced his faceβit wasn't wind, it was particles with energy, which he should have discovered a long time ago.
He paused, feeling the force field in front of him blankly, and his frustration twitched his face. He knew he had to figure out what was going on, why Du Zhengyi had disappeared. He tried to recall the methods he had learned in several classes, and many formulas ran through his head, but unfortunately most of them were incomplete, and he returned all that knowledge to the teacher after the exam. And best of all, he didn't know which one to use.
In fact, even if all these things can be memorized, what is the use? At the end of the day, he doesn't have the strength and acumen of a mage, he's like a computer with no computing power, and no amount of data can be stored. He was standing here, not much stronger than a human, and he began to get angry with himself, half angry.
He raised his head, and the clouds spread in cascades above his head, skimming over the eaves of a nearby farmhouse, and suddenly becoming dark and gloomy halfway up the hill behind. The top of the mountain is no longer visible, and the evening sky is gradually blurred, as if a Chinese painting has dissolved in the thick ink, and the world is left with only this lonely village.
This was like the boundary between the two worlds of humans and mages, he thought vaguely, and suddenly remembered Guan Xinyue's story again.
The ancient well, the thick fog, everything is plausible as in the story. He jerked his head back, as if the strange world sensed his consciousness, and the knock on the door that had been heard in the story suddenly sounded behind him.
The key words of the story are almost complete.
He shuddered, came back to his senses, and made his way through the dimly lit hallway as quickly and silently as he could, to the front door, holding his breath.
There was no knock on the door again, and he subconsciously glanced at the window in extreme tension, and there was only a thick fog outside. The door was unlocked, and after a moment of silence, someone slowly pulled the door open from the outside, little by little.
Fear turned a sticky mass in his stomach, and Roach swallowed secretly, forcing himself to stare at the widening crack in the door.
At first, there was only a thick smoke through the crack in the door, and the choking smoke spread through the crack in the door, like gray vines dragging the door panel. Roach looked suspiciously into the distance, the smoke was as thick as a solid lump, and the light from the living room could barely penetrate the thick fog in the courtyard. He suddenly realized that whatever was knocking on the door, it was behind the door. He barely had time to think before he decided to pull the door panel, but at that moment, the thing seemed to sense his mind again, and just as he was about to move, a white hand reached out and gently grasped the edge of the door.
Roach's hairs were about to stand on end, and the force that wanted to pull the door was forcefully retracted, and he instinctively took a step back, and the stress reaction condensed a faint magical force in his hand. He didn't dare to breathe, his heart pounding, and he hesitantly strengthened the magic in his hand, not knowing if his little power would work.
He watched as the door panel was slowly pulled wider, until a pale face appeared in the doorway, and he froze. Raising his hand down, he looked at the visitor in amazement.
In the thick fog, the obscure moonlight fell on the man, and she still looked pale and fragile, with a deep blue under her eyes. It's just that she doesn't have the cuteness of yesterday anymore, and her expression is empty like a ghost.
She raised her head and stared straight into his eyes, fear was like death wrapped in black rags, still following her, but although it existed, it could not manipulate her, but put a heavy gloom on her face like a mask, as if it was one of the forces that supported her. She smiled under her mask, a smile mixed with childish smugness and the slightest poison of an adult.
"Did you catch the ghost?" Guan Xinyue asked him. She let out a somewhat nervous laugh and taunted him harshly, "Ghost Catching Mastergroup!" β
Roach stammered.
She smiled with satisfaction, sarcasm and sarcasm on her face.
"You ......" Luo Qi looked at Guan Xinyue in astonishment, he really couldn't figure out the situation. Guan Xinyue really didn't look like a living person in the hazy moonlight and the miserable white light from the living room, and he himself was not much better, he might have gone crazy.
He stood dumbfounded, but Guan Xinyue walked into the house like a master, and walked around Luo Qi triumphantly, not only looking at Luo Qi, but also inspecting his ancestral property. But her spirit was so alive that Roach felt like a wrecked car that had been burned with engine oil at the end of its rope. As if she had fallen into an evil spirit, the girl seemed to be dead a long time ago, but her body was running on a burning spirit, and when her spirit burned away, she would be wiped out.
But Roach couldn't tell. When he had survived the shock a little and was finally able to close his mouth wide open, he said, "You're not a mage. β
"Oh," Guan Xinyue stopped at the door of the living room, turned back to him and asked him with a smile, "How can you see that?" β
She looked like she was teasing a kitten. Luo Qi subtracted a point for himself in his heart, Guan Xinyue's mental age seemed to be older than him, and his performance actually made a sixteen-year-old girl look down on. But his pause was keenly sensed by Guan Xinyue, and she immediately understood that she had the upper hand, and looked at him and smiled teasingly. Roach's face turned a little red, half from holding his breath.
He twisted his neck and said, "Mages almost never lie. Even if you lie, you won't lie like you did yesterday. The mage never lets his imagination run wild, so he can't tell a lie like yours. You wrote haunted lies on the Internet to lure the mage into appearing, and the lies you told yesterday were also meant to introduce us into your bureau. β
Guan Xinyue looked at him sarcastically, her eyes almost flashed with light, and sparks flew back, "Don't be shameless, great magician, you were only very handy when you lied yesterday, and one day if you can't get along with tricks, you can go to the Himalayas to record ghost stories." β
Roach choked on, all kinds of emotions were chaotically blocked into his heart, and I don't know which emotion prevailed, he rushed out, "I'm not a mage. β
When this sentence came out, he and Guan Xinyue were stunned at the same time. He winced, as if someone had just shouted the words. But there was no one else here, and it was himself who spoke of his deepest fears.
He himself told the secret of the king's donkey ears, and confessed his fatal flaws, which he had long been unable to hide.
But suddenly, he miraculously felt relaxed. It was as if the heavy burden that had been on my back for a long time had finally been lifted. He had always vaguely known that he was not a mage at all, and he didn't know what happened to his genes, whether they were mutated or degenerated, and he was not capable at all anyway. He should have admitted this a long time ago, and he shouldn't have covered it up anymore, which only increased his mental burden and burdened Du Zhengyi.
He exhaled heavily, and when he turned around, he suddenly caught a glimpse of Guan Xinyue's face being very ugly, as if he was frightened by him. Things did go a little off the line, probably not going according to her plan at all.
He blew out another breath from the depths of his lungs, shifting his attention from his worries to his current troubles, and his whole body relaxed. Guan Xinyue stood in the door of the living room, he simply bypassed her, walked into the living room with the only light on, sat on the circle chair placed in front of him, and reached out to scratch the pipa next to his paw.
The few strings that were not broken made a crisp sound, and in this case the timbre of the pipa could still make him feel very pleasant, he turned his head and looked at the pipa hastily, and was attracted by the sequins inlaid on the pipa, and picked it with his hand.
Guan Xinyue let out an angry scream, which frightened him and quickly let go. When he turned his head, he saw that Guan Xinyue's face was red with anger, and she had recovered a lot of blood.
"You stupid ......" was about to come out, but it was still swallowed in Guan Xinyue's throat, and Luo Qi guessed that she must still have some tutoring.
She looked at Roach angrily, "That's an antique lute!" Are you going to cut Raden off? Idiot! β
Roach shrugged, "Incomplete condition affects the selling price?" β
Guan Xinyueqi's face turned even redder, and the two already light eyebrows looked even more colorless on the angry face.
He sneered and added, "It's your grandmother's, isn't it?" Your relationship with your family doesn't seem to be so good, and yesterday you didn't care about them, only your own safety was worried. β
Guan Xinyue didn't answer him, and asked him angrily, "You're not a mage?" Then why are you with the mage? I knew he was a magician, or he wouldn't have been able to see what I was thinking. Her gaze drifted out unconsciously, and she added with a little hesitation, "Why wasn't it you who was unlucky?" β
"Because I'm ......," Rocky paused, his face sank, and said mechanically, "because my luck is high." β
Guan Xinyue scoffed at his nonsense, and looked down on him more and more, and nodded with her chin in the direction where he was sitting, "Only elders can sit in this position in our family, you really don't have a tutor." β
Roach snorted, "Your family is quite traditional. Your family is so traditional, when you call your step-grandfather, doesn't your milk slap you in the mouth? β
Guan Xinyue gave him a sneer.
Roach looked at her, trying to read more from the face of a sixteen-year-old girl, who stood there staring at him alive but eeriely, with undisguised disgust in her eyes. The disgust was too deep, not like a poor-mouthed boy could provoke a girl, and that hatred seemed to be deep in life. If you can make a comparison, the hatred of killing your father and taking your wife is almost the same. Roach suddenly felt as if he had grasped something, and he couldn't explain it for a while.
He secretly glanced at the watch on his wrist with some irritation, Du Zhengyi had been missing for ten minutes. "I know you're a smart guy who played us like two fools yesterday, so let's stop talking nonsense. You posted about those supernatural events all over the Internet, but you were actually setting a trap, and we did come, and you came to close the net. Tell me now, what do you want? β
Guan Xinyue looked at him calculatingly and gave him a flattering smile that was too fake to look good. "I want you neures to die."
"I don't know who is like a psychopath." Roach said, "Sixteen-year-old girls should go to see TFBOY, I'm much more normal than you, and my idol is Nogizaka Forty-six." β
"I defeated the magician anyway." Guan Xinyue was very good at dealing with him, rolling her eyes and making him angry in the chest. "If you want to live to see your friends, you'll have to listen to me."
Luo Qi couldn't help laughing, at first he bit his lower lip and chuckled, and then he couldn't help laughing so much that the empty house was echoed, he himself felt a bit like the villain in the brain-dead drama, and felt a trace of shame, so he restrained his laughter. Guan Xinyue's expression changed very abnormally, but what remained unchanged was blind anger towards him.
Luo Qi said, "Don't you feel ashamed to say such old lines at such a young age?" β
"If it works, it's fine." Guan Xinyue cautiously cherishes words like gold.
Roach became impatient and got up from his chair as if he couldn't stand it any longer, "Don't talk nonsense, so all the mages in your family died at the hands of your little witch?" How did you curse them? Do you rely on dancing gods? β
Guan Xinyue didn't answer him, and stood in place looking at him with a complicated expression.
He couldn't do anything with girls in the first place, but now this ghostly girl was even more difficult, and he walked up and down the spacious living room in a rage, thinking about how a human girl could make a mage disappear into thin air.
Suddenly, a thought flashed.
He turned his head and stared at Guan Xinyue, "Pendragon Orbital System!" β
