Chapter 3: Multiple Random Missions
Seif had almost no clue. A second he was in the forest, and now here he is, back to the Guardians. The words faded before him:
You have sacrificed. You've gained weakness.
The words were accompanied by a familiar red pulsation, which he had seen when he had broken his leg in the forest. He also felt a little strange, like his limbs were trapped in the dirt. He didn't think it meant that he tripped over his own foot and jumped into the dirt in his nostrils. Otherwise, he would have gotten this information when he fell off a cliff.
"What's wrong with you?" The chief guard's brow furrowed as he saw all the blood in his eyes. "I'm just sending you to pick buds, not to fight with a man in general."
He shook his head. "I don't know. I didn't see any buds, though. “
"Is that so?" The Guardian's voice couldn't have been more muted. He walked closer, sharper as his gaze locked on Severance's neck. "Ah, I see. Did another outsider kill you? "What?" Seif lifted a hand and placed it around his neck. The movement of this hand was slower than he thought, like the resistance of the air itself.
When he looked at the hand, it was covered in blood. His eyes widened, and a second touch found the edge of a deep wound. He didn't need a medical degree to understand that such an injury would have killed him instantly.
He stared at the guard, in
Numb disbelief. "No, it's not
An outsider. And that's just a few
People in the forest, he didn't
Didn't even do anything! “
The Captain of the Guard took a step back. "Oh, what does this guy look like? The one you see? “
The one I saw? When he realized this, he felt like someone had poured a bucket of ice water on him. Mauen may not have taken action?
What kind of place did he find? The people who lived in that mansion clearly did not waste their time on the heroic knights. Instead, they hired damn ninjas to protect their property. Alternatively, it would be more appropriate to describe them as "Men in Black", since he has been outrightly murdered.
"It's a man in black," he told the guard. "Deep blue eyes. He didn't say much. But his name is gray. Same with you. “
Sef touched his neck again. The wound seems to be healing because there is less blood. And the red pulsation around him had calmed down and turned orange.
"A gray name? What do you mean by that? The Chief Guard frowned.
"Uh," Sef hesitated. He remembered that the guardian did not see the floating name. "Nothing."
The guardian's eyes narrowed. "I see. Are there any other markers? Or what's standing out? Is there anything red on him? “
"No, he only wears black." "No, he only wears black."
"Maybe it's the chosen one, but it's hard to determine. In any case, I think I'm going to have to keep the forest off-limits for the time being. If you have more people killed, it's trouble. “
"What about the twisted buds?"
The Captain scoffed. "So what do they do? If I send you back to the forest, you may be killed by a tree. “
The phrase was insulting, but Sev didn't find it anything to argue about. Thank you very much when he prefers to stay outside the forest. However, there is also the uncomfortable fact that his mission failed.
"I'm sorry," he said. Then he remembered the orange flowers he had picked at random. "Wait a minute, I've got these. Maybe you want to use them instead? Inventory. “
A window pops up, and he sees that they are marked as unknown flowers. This is very helpful for the system. As far as he knew, they could be poisonous. He held out a hand, and they appeared in the palm of his hand.
The guardian glanced at it and was unimpressed. He sighed heavily, then swept the flowers with the enthusiasm of a man who went for a root canal. "Okay. I'm holding these. You can go into town now. “
Reluctantly, he moved aside and opened up access to Asce
da
The road of CE.
Mission Accomplished: You have earned access to Asce
da
CE Chance!
A peek at the buzzing activity in town is enough to make Sev hesitate. What should he do there? There are a lot of people there. He guesses that most of them are players, but he can't be sure unless he somehow interacts with them and discovers their names. He didn't want to do it anyway, because the last person he wanted to talk to had him killed.
The guardian made an impatient gesture. "Then go ahead. You'll want to go to Ms. Jovelyn. She was in charge of dealing with the clergy. “
Mission: Find Ms. Jovelyn
This notification brought a sense of relief. At least for now, he has some direction.
He cast a grateful glance at the guard. Despite his short temper, this guy really isn't that bad. He seems to care about you in his own emotionally dull way.
"Thank you," the exasperated tsk he received almost made him laugh.
Feeling a little encouraged, he walked into Asce
da
ce。 He was greeted by a constantly vibrating voice and a changing crowd. As he walked forward, his elbow poked him in the ribs. He felt like a sardine, stuffed into a jar with a hundred people.
His newfound courage was as crumpled as paper.
Someone bumped into him and pushed him backwards, so he accidentally stepped on someone else's toe. A cry of astonishment rang out from behind. Seif turned around and saw a huge bear man staring at him.
"I'm sorry," he exclaimed. The nearby crowd parted, and he seized the opportunity to rush over. People were dangling around him, and he quickly lost track of the man. He rushed over until he reached the side of a building.
It was a little quieter, so he leaned against the rough wood and took a deep breath. If this was a real world, he would have panicked right now.
The worst crowd. However, his heart rate did not increase. His breathing was steady. Not even the cold, damp sweat appeared.
The lack of physical response feels strange. Wrong. This makes the anxiety even worse, as if it was confined to a small box. For the first time since coming to Elliona, he felt like he was wearing a shell rather than an extension of his body. It's like he's driving a stranger's car instead of his own.
He pressed his fist against his chest, struggling to cope with the growing feeling of being trapped. He needs ...... He didn't know what it was, but the desire to run away rose sharply. He just didn't know how.
Maybe I should just leave.
"Excuse me. Foreigner? “
He lifted his restless eyes and saw a woman looking up at him. She was petite and her head barely reached his chest. She wore a long, flowing skirt made of thick woven material, and her hair was loose. Hair scattered to the waist, slightly tangled waves of black hair.
A name appeared above her head: Aina.
She smiled at him. "Hello. You look like you're in some trouble. “
That's a bit of an understatement. As if bloodstained clothes weren't an obvious clue yet?
"Yes."
Her brown eyes wrinkled at the corners of her eyes. "I've seen a lot of outsiders come today, but I think you're probably the first person to have this state."
He shrugged. I think. If anyone is going to be killed on the way into the city, it must be on the way into the city, and that is him. After all, messing things up is one of his specialties.
"Is there anything I can help with?"
Surprise rippled through his heart. Judging by the gray color in her name, she is a resident of Elliona. It's the same name as the Guardian. Even if she's not, the honesty and kindness in her smile feels so real.
It soothed the fragile parts of his nerves. If he had focused on her face, it would have been easier to drown out the hustle and bustle of the crowd.
"I should go to Ms. Jovelyn," he told her. "Do you know where I can find her?" She smiled. "You're a priest, then? I'm not sure if you're a priest or a scholar, because you don't have any armor. I'm getting better at telling, you know, but sometimes it's hard. I'm guessing you're a scholar because you look like you're at war. But don't worry, I know where Madame is. Come with me. I'll show you the way. “
Ena effortlessly navigated through the crowd.
"We were warned that outsiders would come today, but I didn't expect to see so many of you. There are already hundreds, if not thousands, of them. I think we'll have to build a bigger town to accommodate all of you! “
Sef followed, careful not to lose sight of her in all the crowd. "You must be busy."
"Oh, you don't know!"! It's exciting, though. With outsiders here to help, we can live a better life. That's what Makite said, and I believe him. You're all incredible, you know. Being able to face so many things without even flinching! I admire you! I admire you guys. She turned, her eyes shining with almost reverence.
It made him feel very uncomfortable. She shouldn't have looked at him like that. This expression is best reserved for a hero like Serin, the blonde warrior he had met before. She deserves such praise. But what about him? He doesn't deserve it.
Thankfully, she looked forward again.
Turning off the main road, the flow of people gradually thinned out. Nearby, a small stream flows with clear water. A pair of girls stand on stepping stones, they are barefoot and holding shoes in their hands. One of them laughed happily, her voice high and clear. "Right ahead." Eena's voice drew his attention back to hers. "See that tree? That's where she is. “
The tree. It is tall and slender, with golden leaves growing on its slender branches. Sunlight shines through the leaves, making the trees glow brightly under the pale blue-purple sky.
There was a small group of people under the tree. With the exception of a woman dressed in dark gray, they all wore the same white tunic as him. It's just that their clothes are very neat, and his clothes look like they have been brutally murdered.
He sighed. "I saw it. Thank you. "You're welcome, outsider. Take care! With a wave of her hand, she slipped into the crowd.
He felt lonely again, but at least now he had a destination. He focused his attention on this, trying to ignore how the roar of the countless voices around him swelled. He knew it was silly, but he couldn't help but worry about how many people were whispering behind him, wondering why an ordinary priest would be killed so early in the game.
As he approached some of the other newcomers, they glanced at him. Just as he expected, one of them laughed. Her outerwear has an extra V-neckline at some point, revealing her sexiness. A name appears on top of her blonde head in a white dress: Queenie
She raised a hand to her mouth. "Oh wow, what's wrong with you?"
The other two girls closest to her whispered.
Sef tensed, and he cautiously set his gaze on the ground between them. If he doesn't respond, it's easier. He had known for a long time that if he remained still and quiet, it would not be so interesting for them, and there was a good chance that they would lose interest and ignore him.
"Come on, don't be shy. It's just a problem. “
He remained silent. The dirt under their feet was dry, dusty, and parched by the footsteps of many.
Thankfully, he was saved by a noble female voice. "Please come closer. I don't want to shout. “
People approached, and Sef walked behind. His height came in handy, and he clearly saw Ms. Jovelyn. She stood like a queen, her back straight, her hands folded, and a gentle arc on her lips. The gray curls are loosely braided on the shoulders and belong to an elegant painting of a lady.
"You're here." She looked at them and nodded in satisfaction. "I am Lady Jovelyn, and I will be your guide for the first few days of your arrival in Elliona. As clergy, you will find yourself very popular because your skills are best suited to help the people of this land. You see, my dear, there are many savages around who can kill beasts, but few are willing to do really meaningful work. “
She paused, letting the words settle down. Most of the players gathered around listened carefully, and a whisper appeared among the three girls in front of him. Judging by their whispered discussion with a guy named Aslan, they didn't notice a word spoken by Miss Jovelyn.
Don't they know how rude they are? He saw that Lady Jovilyn had noticed them as well, but she just glanced at them lightly before continuing.
"Now, my dear. You are very fortunate to have come to me at this time, because we are in great need of your help. When the whispers continued, Mrs. Chorvelin clapped her hands loudly. The girls woke up from their conversation, and Queenie frowned at the person who disturbed them.
Lady Jovilyn smiled gently.
"Just east of the town, there is an orphanage. Or, I mean, there used to be. She paused, a sad gaze sweeping over her features. It burned down last night, and I suspect there was a purpose. We have received horrific reports of other barbaric acts taking place in the region. But don't worry, my dear – we have a lot of people to assist in investigating this. What I want you to do is do what you can to help those poor, dear children. “
One of Queenie's friends sighed loudly. "It's corny. Stupid orphans, of course. “
"Shh Her friend booed her. "Don't complain. It's better than picking stupid seeds. “
Sephes frowned. Can't they just say it to their big tree?? Everyone can hear them.
"There you have it, dear." Mrs. Chorverine said, as if she had not heard anything. "Let's go! The children are suffering and they can't wait any longer. “
Quest Completed: Find Lady Jovelyn Quest Obtain: Heal 5 Orphans
"Oh, they can't wait," Queenie's friend imitated. She rolled her eyes violently, and she could almost hear her eyeballs rolling in their sockets. Her friend laughed, and Queenie just giggled. She flicked her blonde hair back, almost hitting the plug in the face.
"Come on, you madmen," she said coldly. "We have orphans to save. Let's get this done so we can catch up with Aslan. “
The girls chattered excitedly and hurried away. The rest of the people scattered and walked in the same direction. He looked back at Lady Jovilyn before Seyle chased them.
She stood motionless under the tree, watching them leave with a pensive expression. When she noticed Seif, she smiled faintly and nodded, as if nothing had happened.
He quickly turned around, embarrassed to find himself in a daze. His thoughts lingered on her uneasy expression. Is she bothered by the girls' behavior? Or is it for some other reason?
