31--- The Great Crisis of Twin Bridges
It took him a full forty minutes to find the fifth monument.
"Not far?" Fool me again! It only took a few twists and turns to get there. The route that was supposed to be taken had four sets of stairs and two overpasses, but he ended up taking fourteen sets of stairs and
skybridges.
He walked from one side of the two bridges to the other, trying to follow the mysterious instructions given to him by the Valkyrie he met along the way. Eventually he found the monument, although it was more of a fluke than a successful follow-up to the instructions.
This fifth monument turned out to be a huge statue of a flying bird, sitting coiled in a wide shallow pool. The birds spread their wings half-frayed and cast long shadows in the yard. Its metal body shimmers in the sun with a rich copper color. The clear pool water lapped its outstretched paws, and a stream of water poured out of its open beak.
Looking at this scene, I wonder if the artist who created it knows that the water coming out of the bird's beak makes it look like it's vomiting incessantly. Ha, but apart from this small detail, the statue is quite majestic.
Shaking his head and entering, confused, he walked around the statue. There was an old man who was tending to a few small flower beds around the yard,
It is covered with colorful flowers. There's even a pale pink flower that looks the same as Xioma
aThe one that was stuffed into her hair was similar.
Between the garden beds are stone benches, behind which small trees are planted to shelter from the heat of the day. Calm and beautiful. The soft breeze carried a hint of sweetness, and he took a deep breath, which was undoubtedly the fragrance of flowers.
Another person was found at the edge of the yard, facing a tree with lush foliage and white flowers. The man seemed to do nothing but stare at the tree, as if he was fascinated by its presence.
He wears a plain blue tunic that looks like it was hand-sewn from an old quilt.
Since this is the only other person in the area, that must be Augustine? He approached, the sound of his boots rubbing against the stone walkway was enough to get the man's attention. He immediately turned around, his gaze falling on Sef.
"Why is he like this?"
Augustine was skinny, wolf-like with an aristocratic temperament.
Premature graying of hair. His shoulders were tense and his eyes were tired, like a man who had been through a long life. Even so, he held his posture firmly, as if he would not bend his knee no matter what.
Sef subconsciously straightened his back. "My people asked me to come to you."
"Are you...?" "I'm Seif. Priest. β
"I see. You are an outsider. Come over here, then. β
He did not provide any further explanation. Instead, stroll along the outer edge of the courtyard, passing by a few showy flowers. Sev hurriedly followed, not knowing where Augustine was going to take him?
What happens if another player shows up in my mission. If Augustine is gone, what should that player do? Wait for him to come back?
"Tell me," Augustine said suddenly. "As a pastor, what do you think a healer is?"
The person who can heal, the first reaction, but he thinks that this may not be what he wants. He tries not to sigh out loud because he hates such questions. There were always some secrets, some trickery answers, and he could never get them right.
They left the courtyard of the Fifth Monument and came to a wide street. The shadow of a viaduct skimmed over them.
Augustine remained silent, apparently waiting for an answer.
"Therapists," Sef began, drawing on his experience with video games for a few days, "is helping people." I guess that's what heals them, but sometimes it's not possible. He thought of Selma. That poor crazy old woman. No one would be strong enough to soothe her broken, crazy little heart.
He shrugged. "So I'm guessing you're just trying to help them. That's it. β
"Hmm," Augustine said thoughtfully. His steps were calm and steady, his hands crossed behind his back. He didn't say anything, which made Sef want to bark at the man.
Did he get it right? Or is he answering correctly? Or is he wrong? Did he pass the exam? Is this even a test?
Where are they going?
Augustine led them up a flight of stairs to a sky bridge. But this is the first time he has not rushed from place to place in a frenzy. Previously, he had been focused on getting to his destination as quickly as possible. Now, he had time to take a good look at it.
What a wonderful view.
From this height, it's easier to see how big Shuangqiao City is. Despite the crowded buildings and countless pedestrians,
The city has a specific design, one that encompasses chaos in order. Because every street joins the whole city,
One of the four main roads. The flyover itself simply provides a more direct path over the dense buildings.
"This way," Augustine's quiet order pulled Sev back from his shocked observation. They found a set of stairs nearby and began to descend to the ground.
It's already close to the outskirts of the city. Augustine turned a narrow cobblestone road and followed the tall wall. Sef's fingertips slid along its surface. It is made up of huge blocks of stone that have been cut and spliced together very finely, with only faint lines hinting at the shape of each stone.
The North Gate looms. Unlike the entrance to the south, the gate of the gate β heavy logs reinforced with large metal bands β is closed. And above the gate, two pairs of Valkyries stood and watched, staring out.
"Here." Augustine went to a small single-story shack. It has a window and a door, both open. Enter, it's so barren inside. There is no furniture other than a table and a few chairs, and a couple of storage compartments on the other side. Maps were scattered across the table, and a woman leaned over to study them carefully. A lantern hangs on the wall, adding a soft blue glow to the natural light that already comes in through the open doors and windows.
It's a Valkyrie, she wears more clothes. Leather jacket and boots to mid-thigh, she did not wear a veil, but simply wrapped a scarf around the lower part of her face. The tail of the scarf hung over her back, mingling with her loose maroon hair.
The goddess's gaze softened as she spoke to her.

Uella's name snorted over her head, then straightened up from the table. She pulled a strand of hair from her eyes to the back of her head. "Not so good. We held the fort, but only barely held it. If they continue to receive reinforcements, will we be able to hold out for a week? β
Sef crossed his arms and tilted his head to try to figure out what she was talking about. There was no sign of a fight between the two bridges, so she must have been pointing somewhere else. He was curious how this would lead to the next series of healer tasks. Why else did Augustine bring him here?
"You have to hold it." Augustine approached her and put his hand on her shoulder. His fingers pinched slightly. "That fortress is the only thing between the two bridges and the Chosen One's nest. If it falls, the city will be captured in a day. β
Sounds terrible. So scary? The Valkyries are well hidden, so do the other clans know that the twin bridges are in danger? No, they have to know. If the player knows, then the news must be sent back to their clan. If that's the case, then why don't champions or vigilantes send someone to help?
Or, he realized, maybe an outsider helped.
Bruela slammed her fist on the table. "If only the cursed outsiders hadn't crossed over. We've slaughtered the Chosen twice now! β
The sudden outburst made Sef flinch. Taken aback. Outsiders are the problem, not the help? Now he's confused. What the hell is going on?
Bruela and Augustine seemed to remember an outsider in the tent and turned their heads sharply to look at him. Sev smiled very charmingly. "Hello?"
"What are you doing here?"
This one? The smile stiffened. He's not that. He's a saf.
"Another outsider. He was a pastor. Augustine took his hand off her shoulder.
"I see. Then we can take advantage of him. β
"That's what I thought, too," Augustine agreed. "He can take some of Orion's load off his shoulders."
Her eyes were above the scarf, dark and serious. "What's your name, healer?"
"Sef."
"Hello then, this is my request to you." She exchanged a look, a wordless feeling with Augustine. "Please go to the fortress and talk to Orion. Help him in any way you can. β
As soon as she finished the last syllable, the system sounded.
Mission: Find Orion in the Valkyrie Fortress.
"The fort is on the other side of the North Bridge," Augustine added. "Exit from the nearby gate and head due north. When you reach the outskirts of the fort, tell us that you were sent. They'll let you in. β
"Okay."
Find the bridge, make your way to the fort, and help. It sounded simple to him. Augustine gave much better instructions than Valkyrie. So he wandered to the gate. The Valkyrie on duty opened it for him.
As soon as I reached the wide bridge that spanned the canyon, I saw several players coming from the other direction. He noticed that a lot of them looked like they were involved in a terrible battle. Their armor was in tatters, their clothes were in tatters, and there were many traces of blood that had not yet dried up.
When they pass him, they won't come back from the fortress, will they?
A few minutes later, he passed another group looking about the same. One of them was a tank, and more than half of his chain mail was scorched. There was also a broken arrow stuck in his back.
It's anxiety-inducing!
"Hey, are you on the two bridges?"
"Almost!" A cheerful answer came. "Just got here, let's go, I'll catch up!"
Hanfu was depressed again. In the words of Awesome Dude, "just over" can mean anything. All it takes is a shiny stone on the road, and Awesome Dude will be all it takes!

With a growing sense of doom, he struggled down the bridge.
