Chapter 26: Welcome Home
In April 1722, we finally re-arrived at the borders of the Roman Empire, which had been established as imperial territory by the signing of an agreement with the Kingdom of Russia. Therefore, the legions of the Roman Empire can be seen everywhere in this land.
The Imperial Legions, stationed in this Imperial territory, sent troops to escort us into Kafbas.
Alexander did not immediately march towards Kafbas with his escorted cavalry, but took me around the countryside around Kafbas.
It has been a long time since I set foot on the territory of Poland, and there are fewer of the corpses of serfs that used to hang high on the trunks of trees beside the crossroads, but there are many more ruins telling of the many things that have happened in the past two years and the farmland that has been reclaimed.
I believe that this vast land will soon be replaced by endless wilderness, and that in time we will occupy this territory that will make it possible for the Empire to import food from France and to meet the food needs of Constantinople.
Alexander seemed to be satisfied with the reply from the Polish plain, and patted the cavalry officer who had accompanied him on the shoulder approvingly, leaving the officer holding the reins of his horse and stirring his approval for a long time.
"Maybe I should speculate on the housing prices in Yuzhny and Kherson, which are the outlets to the sea?"
With the idea that the newly conquered land would become a granary, and the cities that held the mouth of the sea would become large port cities, and that a few pieces of land would be grabbed and then sold off, our group turned to Kafbas.
In front of the Kafbas gate, we were greeted by local officials. Just as I wondered where the high-ranking officers of the legion were stationed, I was stunned by what I saw.
A long scarlet carpet was laid out on the floor of Kafbas. On either side of the carpet was an invisible line of heavily armed legionnmen with muskets in their hands. Standing meticulously, another row of legionnaires outside them formed a cordon.
Behind the soldiers stood rows of people in the distance, all dressed in different ways, apparently residents of the city, and above that, houses on both sides of the streets, just for a moment. The house was covered with the black double-headed eagle flag of Theofano, and countless golden eagle banners on a black background fluttered in the wind, emitting silent majesty.
The moment Alexander and I first appeared. A loud shout rang out from the side.
"Roman legions, let us pay our respects to the two princes of the Roman Empire!"
The legionnaires immediately erupted in a deafening cry that tore through the whispers around them.
"Long live Alexander!"
"Long live Nikephorus!!"
"Long live the Empire!! Long live Rome~~~"
The sound of passionate military music rang out.
All the soldiers immediately straightened up and lowered their smoothbore guns in their hands and saluted us.
The soldiers who thought they were fierce and vicious if they widened their eyes, and those who didn't know what to do thought were going to come up and beat us up.
I'm fine with Alexander. Our Lao Tzu is equivalent to an emperor. So the pomp and circumstance of the ceremony can often be seen, but Burkhard is a little embarrassed, he probably has never seen such a large market in Russia, his expression is a little unnatural, and his hand is still on the saber.
"Don't be nervous, you're our Roman general now. β
Berkhard was a little embarrassed, and he laughed dryly twice in a slightly embarrassed way: "Habit, this is habit." Changed it all at once. β
Alexander said, "All right, come with us to review the army." β
Horses' hooves on the red carpet. As we walked up to the first soldier, the man with his legs together raised his right hand at us, his eyes not only frenzied, but also his head deliberately raised.
"Long live the Empire!"
"For Rome. β
At the end of the carpet was the square of Kafbas, neatly filled with people, with soldiers in front of them holding up banners, and below them were groups of government officials and officers, large and small. Government officials wore their standard uniforms, and officers wore crisp military uniforms with various medals and medals, and their leather boots were shiny.
Alexander walked majestically up to the group and stood still.
A stout young official walked up, his right hand held high: "I am the Overseer of the local defense, Mitroglu, and I hereby warmly welcome the arrival of the two noble Highnesses with the most sincere respect on behalf of all the soldiers of the six Imperial Legions under my command, and express my heartfelt congratulations and thanks to His Highness Alexander the Great for his exploits to the Kingdom of Russia, and for His Highness Nikephoros for such brilliant feats in the Kingdom of France and Germany! Long live the rise of Rome! Long live the Rise of the Empire!! Long live Theofano!!!
"Long live the rise of Rome! Long live the rise of the empire!! long live Theofano!!!
The sea of cheers was everywhere, and looking at the fanatical soldiers, and their hysterical expressions, the eagle banner already flying above the sky, I thought of something, and found something different.
The Imperial Eagle Banner changed, and beneath the double-headed eagle appeared an object that had never appeared before, seemingly as a sphere symbolizing the current territory of the Roman Empire.
There is nothing more remarkable than a change in territory that tells the world about our merits, and that is the expansion of our territory.
The territory of the Roman Empire stretched from Anatolia to the Greek Peninsula to the Kingdom of Russia...
"I think they should all be called Long Live Caesar, but, Alexander, you got it. β
Alexander was also puzzled, and he whispered to me, "I didn't tell them to get these flashy things. β
The Mitroglu Overseer was clearly of great hearing, and he heard all around him so noisy and so whispered by Alexander.
"Your Highness, this is not a flashy thing, this is the respect of all the soldiers, and it is also their determination to fight for the Empire, and it is their willingness to fight together with us, as well as you and you, for the prosperity of Rome! If it weren't for the limited space and the defense, it would never be so five thousand people, a few regiments of troops that came here, but a full 57,670 people, so the Roman legions here, all the legions holding the eagle banner!"
"Alexander, we may need to boast of force for the sake of stabilizing the situation on the ground, this is normal. I said to Alexander, "I can understand that you cheer for Alexander's exploits, but what is the matter with cheering?"
The Overseer of Mitroglo was stunned: "What, doesn't Your Highness know that your deeds in France have been recited by the legions of the whole Empire? We already knew at one o'clock last month that you had declared war on the French on behalf of the Empire, and then, you had come close, almost to Versailles! The hateful and despicable French, if they had not assassinated you, and you were wounded and unable to continue to support, you might have taken Versailles! However, you have already captured Versailles if they had not assassinated you, causing you to be wounded and unable to continue to support, and thus failed the plan to raid Versailles! However, you have really admired the merit of defeating the Prince of Grand CondΓ©. You are the pride of our Romans, the pride of the Imperial Legion, and the pride of the entire Empire, and it is precisely because of a royal family like you that our Roman Empire is where it is today!
Did you work hard?
I was stunned, and the next second, I looked back at the soldiers, and when they saw me looking back at them, they let out even more fervent cheers.
I smiled wryly and nodded, then turned back to Mitroglou and said, "I really didn't expect that what I did would have such a big repercussion, it was actually my duty as an imperial family and an imperial soldier. β
"Yes, then, Your Highness, welcome home!"
"Welcome home?"
"Yes!" Mitroglu raised his right hand and retracted his five fingers, and the cheers of the legion soon fell silent.
"Soldiers, soldiers of the Roman legions, let us loudly welcome our Highness Nikephoros, and welcome home this Roman, who has been away from Rome for two years and has only re-set foot on the territory of the Empire until today!"
"His Royal Highness Nikephoros, welcome home~~" (To be continued......)
