Volume I: Chapter 81: Brother

Young Ilona didn't think much of it at the time, she had been living in Hunyadi for many years, and joining the hunting flock had always been her vision.

Now that Master Cesare had gone to Karliu to study, and Mr. Janos had invited her at this time, Ilona was in mixed moods, worried that she was not qualified, but she was even more reluctant to miss this opportunity.

Changing out of her maid's costume and putting on a suit of clothes for going out, Ilona made up her mind to follow Monsieur Janos out of the castle, mounted her horse and headed out into the forest.

It was also a night, and the woods were foggy as if something big was going to happen.

Mr. Janos was the backbone of the raven flock, and he was extremely skilled at riding horses and was incredibly fast, and he didn't care whether Ilona behind him could keep up with him, and ran forward with the reins in his hands.

Ilona, who had barely had much experience riding a horse, could only rely on her courage to make the horse run faster, for fear that if she was not careful, she would be left far behind and lost in the forest.

They skirted the treacherous fields and burrowed through the woods from little-known trails into the fog.

As she walked, Ilona felt that the road was somewhat familiar, like the way home......

She wanted to ask but couldn't keep up with Mr. Janos, who seemed fierce all the time, and dispelled her desire to ask.

As Ilona suspected, they made their way to the village of Kirist, the place where Ilona was born.

There is not much emotion to return to your hometown again, the fog covers the night, the familiar streets are empty, the doors and windows are locked, and all the people in the town are afraid of the legendary creature coming again.

Ilona didn't want to reminisce too much...... All the good things that happened here will finally come down to that terrible tragedy, remembering his brother who fell in front of him...... Father who was chopped into minced meat......

For Ilona, it takes a lot of courage to return to this sad homeland.

"What are you doing in a daze, go this way." Janos didn't urge angrily, and then plunged headlong into the fog.

But Ilona remembers it very well...... That's the direction back to your own home. At first, Ilona thought she was just thinking too much, but she passed through a few alleys and passed by familiar street corners......

When she saw the fence wall in her memory, Ilona couldn't escape reality anymore, and they were going to her childhood home.

"Why ......?" Ilona muttered to herself in an extremely low voice, and he did not explain whether or not Yanos heard the girl's doubts.

Seeing the familiar earthen house getting closer and closer, several crows dressed in black and wrapped in leather armor rode up and guarded the door of the house, as if waiting for their arrival for a long time.

The black leather armor is made of sturdy animal skin, delicate and soft, with room for free movement.

The surface of the leather armor shimmered slightly, and the shoulders and chest were adorned with delicate metal ornaments with crow motifs, adding to the defensive character and making the garment look more majestic.

Their clothing clings to their master's sturdy torso, showing off the lines of their bodies and their muscles full of strength.

With a veil on their faces, a cloak behind them, and an oil lamp tied to a wide belt around their waists illuminating the entire earthen house, several crow knights watched the arrival of Janos and Ilona in silence, like statues that only moved their eyes.

Mr. Janos turned over and dismounted, and walked towards the door of the house.

"Come in." He said coldly, not at all like he was trying to explain anything.

Ilona couldn't understand why she was brought back here...... After a moment of hesitation, he dismounted and walked back to his former home...... Little by little, Mr. Janos pushed open the wooden door that had been almost draped in half.

Then came the sound of chains dragging and the light slowly seeping into the dilapidated house, which had been uninhabited for a long time was covered with cobwebs and filthy reptiles everywhere.

As Janos slowly leaned into the house with the oil lamp in his hand......

The light source first illuminated the familiar broken wood furniture, dining tables, cabinets, and beds, and nothing changed except for a thick layer of gray stained by disrepair.

And soon ...... The light shone from the corner of the house a pair of white and thin feet, whose owner was afraid of the light and plunged into the darkness, and the chains on his body rattled wildly, making people panic.

And when the light source completely illuminates the whole room, the creatures hiding in the gloomy corners are also completely exposed.

It screamed and covered its eyes with its hands, as if it had been in the dark for a long time and could not adapt to the sudden bright light, and its body was covered with countless cracked wounds, each of which had teeth similar to those of a human.

The wound was like a mouth spitting out mycelium that was closing repeatedly.

Several thick chains bound a small mycelial monster with a sterling silver ring on its claws, but it was also covered in mycelium.

It was surrounded by rat carcasses, its hands stained with rat hair and blood, and an unfinished rat tail on its face.

As the monster slowly adjusts to the light, it slowly lowers its arms, revealing its mycelium-covered eyes...... Ilona covered her mouth with her hands in shock, tears streaming down her face, not because of the fear of seeing the monster......

It's that Ilona knows the monster's face, and no matter what it becomes, Ilona will never fail to recognize it.

That's his brother...... The brother who died in front of him many years ago.

"Brother...... Is that you? The pain was indescribable, and she couldn't tell for a moment whether she was happy or sad, but her body was numb and wanted to get close to her relatives, but Mr. Janos grabbed her and pulled her back.

"Do you want to die!?" Janos glared at Ilona viciously.

"Yes...... That's my brother...... How could he, how could he be like this! ”

Ilona cried incoherently, the monster in front of her let out a menacing roar, and the silence of the crows behind her terrified the girl even more, and she looked helplessly at Mr. Janos's face, desperate for an answer as if pleading.

Janos was silent for a moment, then spoke slowly.

"Your brother is infected with mycelium, and this is what people look like when they are infected."

As he spoke, motioning for Ilona to stay where he was, he leaned over slowly, only raising his arm slightly towards the monster, which was instantly blinded by the sudden sight of its prey by a beast that had been hungry for days.

The cracks in his body opened one after another, revealing the teeth growing in a disorderly manner, and his limbs pressed against the ground uncoincidentally and pounced, but under the reaction force, he was grabbed back by several chains, and fell to the ground barking like a puppy.
