Chapter 435 Someone Wants to Buy Our Airliner?
After listening to Chang Haonan's introduction to the research plan, although I feel that the latter has set the goal a bit high, I still recognize the plan itself.
In addition to the clear and logical theoretical analysis and the official designation of the chief designer of Taihang Engine, a considerable part of the reason for this is that even if several people have not used it, they have at least seen the software developed by TORCH Multiphysics.
If someone else is ashamed to say that he wants to build a dynamic model of a flexible asymmetric rotor system with complex structures supporting nonlinearity under large external overload conditions by means of numerical calculations, I am afraid that he will only receive a few ridicules.
But Chang Haonan is different.
Although on the surface, his main achievements are concentrated in fluid mechanics, structural mechanics and control theory, if you really summarize his achievements, the common denominator is actually in the field of computational mathematics.
There may be disagreement in the mathematical community about whether this thing is a fundamentalist "mathematical research", but engineering people don't pay attention to this, as long as it is easy to use.
Chang Haonan can naturally see that the few people sitting below don't believe in their statement that they have increased the life of the bearing by ten times.
In fact, the tenfold figure was a conservative estimate he made for fear of scaring these people, but it still didn't seem conservative enough.
But it doesn't matter, the results will speak.
People in the late 90s really didn't know anything about the power of advanced optimization algorithms.
Of course, in order to achieve this goal, it is certainly not enough to improve the way bearings are designed.
In fact, after determining the bearing structure, he also needs newer, or more adaptable, materials and processes.
At present, the bearing steel used in Huaxia is mainly ordinary bearing steel GCr15 and a small amount of molybdenum steel M50, which is no different from developed countries, and the expensive aero engine is naturally dominated by the latter.
However, although the hardness of M50 steel at room temperature can reach HRC62 and has good hot hardness, and can work continuously at a maximum of 316 °C, its fracture toughness is very poor, and it is difficult to exceed 2.4 ×/min in value, which is reflected in the insufficient anti-spalling ability of the bearing surface, which is easy to cause irreversible damage under some extreme working conditions.
This is also the reason why the vast majority of aviation bearings eventually reach their lifespan.
Improving ideas, it's easy to say, just find a graduate student who is engaged in metal materials can explain it-
Reduce the carbon content, increase the nickel content, and possibly increase the nitrogen content, and then case hardening......
However, it is not enough to have an idea, but also to determine how much carbon to reduce, how much nickel to add, how to harden, what process to use, and what the coating material is......
This is also why the raw material used by everyone is M50, but Pratt & Whitney, Rolls-Royce and General Motors have a longer life and better stability.
And all these details can only wait for the detailed design plan to come out, and then according to the specific parameters and requirements of the bearing parts.
As for how to determine......
In the past, it was a trial-and-error process, highly dependent on the experience of the materials engineer and, of course, luck, and the investment required was staggering.
But now, Chang Haonan can give them at least a guide in the direction.
Efficiency is not the same.
"There is a long way to go......"
Chang Haonan closed the notebook in front of him, which was already full of research plans, and muttered to himself as he looked at the backs of the other people who got up and left the conference room.
……
Chang Haonan, as a person who has lived again, naturally thinks that it is a problem for the Huaxia aviation industry in the late 90s, but for people who are already living in the present, the changes that have taken place in the past year or so can be described as a miracle.
Ho Jing, Yan Liang.
The fourth and second full-state prototype of the MA60 is parked on the tarmac.
A group of men in suits and leather shoes are huddled around the right engine of the plane.
Unlike the yellow or metallic colors that were common in other prototypes, this aircraft was painted in a blue and white livery for the first time in the world.
If you have a sharp eye, you will also notice that the vertical tail of the plane is also painted with a trapezoidal flag symbol with red, blue and white intervals.
Flag of Thailand.
Obviously, this livery is very targeted.
"Mr. Jojit, this is our newest regional airliner, the MA60-100, which is also the base model of the full range, which can accommodate 60 passengers in a normal layout."
A staff member from Huaxia Aerotech translated Gao Quan, general manager of Hojing Aircraft Company, into Thai when he introduced the aircraft.
"Like several other regional airliners in this class, the MA60 currently uses the PW127J series turboprop engine produced by Pratt & Whitney, which has no difference in performance and working mode, but in terms of supporting propellers, we use self-developed 6-blade composite propellers with higher propulsion efficiency and safer propulsion, combined with a new wing with a large aspect ratio, which can save about 8% additional fuel consumption."
When he heard this, the Thai manager, known as Jojit, was struck by it.
In fact, he was on a trip to seek a new batch of light regional airliners for Bangkok Airways.
Although Bangkok Airways is named after the Thai capital, it is actually a very small airline that has been established for more than a decade, with only eight Schott 330 aircraft that are more than 20 years old and 14 slightly newer ATR72-200 aircraft.
Originally, according to the plan, they were going to purchase a batch of Airbus A320s to upgrade the fleet, but when the decision was made, it was already mid-August 1997, and even a fool could feel that the economic situation in Southeast Asia was not quite right, so the management decisively came to a wave of consumption downgrades, turning the original purchase plan of 4 mainline airliners into 6 50-60 seat class regional airliners.
It stands to reason that there are not many options for aircraft of this class, considering that Bombardier's latest Chong 8-400 is still a pie, and even the prototype has not yet rolled off the assembly line, and the Chong 8-300 is already an old model nearly ten years ago, then the only remaining option should be to continue to purchase a new generation of ATR72, that is, ATR72-500 aircraft.
However, at this time, the importance of advertising is reflected -
The performance of the MA60 at the Paris Air Show caused the management of Bangkok Airways to hesitate for a moment.
Huaxia Aviation Industry is basically small and transparent in the field of civil aircraft, but Agusta is an Italian company after all, and it is still somewhat convincing.
Moreover, it was also during the air show that Huaxia was overwhelmingly advertised that they had reached a mutual recognition of the airworthiness of regional aircraft with the European Union, and a little later, it was reported that they had reached a similar agreement with the United States.
These two events have played a decisive role in improving the confidence of foreign users.
What's more, although the MA60 is only slightly lower than the ATR72 in terms of offer, considering that Huaxia and Thailand are neighboring countries, it is certainly much cheaper and more convenient than the ATR in terms of after-sales service.
As a result, Bangkok Airways' board of directors finally decided by a majority to give this new model a chance.
For the Chinese side, this purchase intention from Thailand is completely unexpected.
Although Chang Haonan has reached a mutual recognition agreement on the airworthiness of regional aircraft with Europe and the United States by relying on a commotion operation, even he himself actually has the idea of fighting the future.
The passenger plane still needs a little word-of-mouth accumulation.
At least in the first two or three years, it was mainly operated by domestic airlines.
Chang Haonan has even thought about integrating several airlines that are relatively suitable for operating short-haul regional aircraft, such as Beijiang Airlines and Guizhou Airlines, into United Airlines in the airline integration plan that is about to submit opinions, and insist on operating the MA60 even if it is a loss.
As a result, domestic users have not yet landed, and the first ones to find the door are foreign customers.
It is no wonder that the general manager Gao Quan has pushed down a lot of things and is personally responsible for the reception.
6 planes is a small shrimp for Boeing Airbus, but for Huaxia Aviation Industry, it is completely a milestone.
"Can I go inside the cabin?"
Jangit glanced up at the fuselage.
The Huaxia people specially painted this prototype into their company's livery, which is undoubtedly a sign of sincerity.
"Of course, come this way, the gangway will be there soon."
Gao Quan was obviously prepared, picked up the walkie-talkie and said a few words, and a gangway drove slowly from not far away.
Due to the limitations of the original structure, the cabin doors on both sides of the MA60 are located at the stern, resulting in a lower profile than the other two regional turboprop airliners, and even passengers about 1.7 meters tall need to bend down to get in.
It's a big disadvantage.
However, the environment in the cabin still made Jangit quickly forget the little unhappiness just now.
