Chapter I
Noah Vines discovers that death is not what he expected. He never considered himself a particularly religious person, but he always thought that something would happen after death.
He was delighted to find out that something was indeed happening.
However, he was not so happy about what had happened, as it involved waiting in line. A very, very long line. To make matters worse, he simply didn't know what he was waiting for. There is no introduction. He's even willing to take on an onboarding video.
However, he found himself standing behind another naked man, slowly moving in a certain direction. The only thing that exists is boredom. There was nothing else around, only the queues of crowds, winding through the empty space, standing on faint, translucent energy paths. Time passed—at least, Noah felt like time was passing. He didn't have any way of judging for sure.
He had considered talking to people on several occasions. But each time he decided not to. It doesn't feel right. Maybe it's because he's dead. However, it did give him some time to reflect on himself.
Unfortunately, what he reflected on didn't make him feel particularly good. He would love to come into the afterlife with more pride—whatever that may be. Thousands of successful students, or a loving wife and children.
He's not there yet. Noah had only four years of teaching experience in total and a useless college degree that barely helped him get a job — a job that forced his colleagues to give up sick leave so he could pay for his medical bills.
God – No matter how many there are, or what type of god they are, I want those children to have a great start in life. They deserve that.
The team moved slowly. Time is stretched. It passed, but Noah wasn't sure how long it had been. Hundreds of years. Thousands of years. He was no longer sure. The only thing that really accompanied him was his own voice, echoing in the silent mind.
He just stood there, occasionally taking a step whenever the soul in front of him moved.
The world has changed.
Noah wasn't sure when this happened. But one moment he was still standing in the infinite void, the next his feet were on solid ground. All the lines converge to a single point, and a tall woman stands above all of them. Behind her is a huge lake filled with glittering silver waters.
Unlike the others, she wears clothes. Beautiful silk hung from her body and danced like a streamer, but nothing could compare with her but herself. She was so flawless that the only emotion Noah felt was fear. There is no doubt that she is not human.
Everyone in the line walked towards her one by one. They paused, as if in a silent exchange. Then they moved on, into the lake, dipping their hands in it. They held the silvery liquid to their mouths and vanished, turning into a white light.
The team moved on. Noah didn't even have time to really understand what was happening, he was already standing in front of the beautiful woman. Time stood still the moment they locked their gaze.
"Noah Vines," she said, as if reading from some unseen cue. "He died at the age of twenty-six. You have a significant influence on eighty-four students. Many people pray for you. Life is good. ”
"I—are you God?" Noah asked, the first time he had spoken since his death, and he immediately regretted it.
"I'm one of the many goddesses in reincarnation called Continued Life," she replied, looking a little bored with the question. "You have been chosen to be reincarnated in a higher level. Drink from this well of water of life and move on to the next life while losing the memory of your present life. A suitable body will soon be born for you. ”
"Wait, won't I remember anything? Don't remember anything at all? ”
The next life opened his mouth to answer. Then time starts flowing again. Thousands of black rays of light cut through the void like a meteor shower. Noah looked up at them in amazement, his mouth open.
The first meteor fell, smashing not far from Noah, crushing the men, passing through the ground, sending huge fragments in a spin into nothingness.
A loud rumble shook the earth, and more and more meteors fell, each tearing the serene sight to shreds. Xusheng raised his hands. A beautiful pink flower bloomed in the air in front of her, just before the black spear of energy slammed in.
It shattered the flowers, narrowly missing the rebirth that it had turned to dodge. More meteors continued to fall, falling in all the souls around Noah, but he couldn't get himself moving. All he could do was watch them tear apart the other souls that surrounded him, tear them to shreds, or throw them into nothingness.
A deep, piercing howl rang out in the air. Xusheng staggered a few steps as a sharp black spear burst out from her shoulder. Cracks appeared around her, and from them oozed a billowing mass of material that poured onto the ground like mud.
Screaming faces emerge in it, as if they are trying to break free from the boiling mud. They rose up and became a vague humanoid. He pulled the spear out of the reborn's body.
"I've finally found you, Survivor," the man said, his hoarse voice tinged with a mocking tone. "My beautiful flower."
The face of the continuation did not move. She held out a hand to the man. A beam of light burst out of her palm and burned into his body. Countless voices screamed in pain, and he clutched his chest. A black liquid flowed down his body and into the silver waters, defiling it.
Another meteor smashed into Noah's side, pulling him out of his musings. There was not a soul in his sight. He was so close to the afterlife and that terrible man that he was saved from destruction, but it didn't take a genius to realize that it was a terrible idea to stay in the battle between the two gods.
His eyes were fixed on the water of life. He looked up at the two men, but neither of them noticed him. Noah struggled to his feet and lunged forward. The man turned, and only for a split second his gaze met with Noah's.
Then Noah threw himself into the silver waters. He drank without hesitation, not waiting to see what happened. It ran down his throat, sweet and syrupy. A sense of calm enveloped Noah, enveloping him in it.
The feeling of fear that had just been full of fear disappeared in an instant. He's safe. There is nothing to be afraid of. The only thing that matters is to move on to his next life. His past......
Noah suddenly flinched at the bitter taste coming from the tip of his tongue. It pierced the calm and bound him like a thorn. The memories of his life now suddenly stopped rotting and poured into his body, filling his body with a disgusting smell.
Then, Noah vanished and became a ray of light, speeding through the universe.
On the black canvas, the world is intertwined in a blur of colors. He travels through the infinite darkness, his mind confused, trying to make sense of the vision in front of him. Time has become a foreign concept. For Noah, existence becomes the dancing shapes and universes through which he passes.
Yet, like all things, it will come to an end. He would have a violent tremor in his chest, as if he had a physical form. The faint pain was something he felt for the first time in a long time. He felt a headache and struggled to regain full consciousness.
The image bloomed before his eyes, no longer a passing world or stars, but an endless stream of green fields and huge mountains. Lakes are the size of oceans and have complex cave systems hidden deep underground. Awe filled him, and as he flew over this new world, consciousness tried to rekindle it.
In his previous memories, Noah briefly stared at him from the stars, from which he saw the eyes of two giant reptiles. Then he disappeared, getting closer and closer to the surface of the planet. A faint gravitational pull pulls him into a village, and he passes through the planks of a hut.
A woman is lying on the bed, and a newborn is crying in front of her. Her expression was full of relief and pain, but Noah didn't have time to look at it in detail. The gravitational pull exerts on him, pulling him towards the baby's body.
He landed and gently stroked the cheek of the crying boy. The tight bands enveloped him, sending sharp pain throughout his body. In less than a second, he was jerked away and thrown at the entire planet again.
Noah is pulled into the birth scene several times, and his floating body tries to merge but fails. The restraints grew stronger and stronger, so much so that he could barely make the tiny movements he had already made.
Noah caught a glimpse of a huge castle-like wall, almost the size of a city, as he swooped towards them. He walked through the cracks in the stone and continued on his way, through the forest and the savannah.
He came to a scrambled in a small clearing surrounded by charred trees. They reach into the air like withered fingers reaching out to heaven. To his surprise, there were no children. Not even a mother. A man with greasy black hair sits by a extinguished campfire by a small lake. His features are sharp and painful. Blood ran down his chest, deep wounds. Although Noah is not a doctor, he is very sure that this is not the kind of wound that people can survive.
The corpses of several furry creatures were scattered around him. They roughly resemble monkeys, but with huge fangs in their mouths and much longer claws than any monkey on the planet. Their fur was still smoking, and their bodies were pierced by holes as wide as a coin.
The man gasped for breath as he felt a small ladybug on his belt. He bent his head, opened the wax seal from the ladybug's lips with a trembling hand, and gulped it down.
Noah tries to move, but he has no control over his body. All he could do was float and watch. The wound on the man's stomach undulated. The filaments of the flesh and organs stick out and reconnect.
The man was going to take another sip. Halfway through the action, his eyes widened as if they were about to explode, and he reached out and grabbed his throat. Ladybug slipped from his hand to the ground, liquid flowing out of Ladybug's mouth.
A sharp pull pulls Noah's umbilicus. Just as the man looked up, Noah was pulled down and into his body. A chill rushed over Noah. It's like he's been thrown into an icy ocean.
The screams traveled through his mind, but it wasn't until later that he realized it wasn't his voice. Noah gasped hard - it worked.
Noah froze. He slowly reached out and touched his face, feeling the skin rather than the illusory fluctuations. He patted himself gently, slowly at first, and then jumped to his feet. His foot was on a piece of bloody mud, and he lost his balance and fell to the ground with a loud bang.
