Chapter 6 Fun
Isabel's eyes widened, then she pursed her lips again. She exchanged a confused look with Todd.
"What do you mean by that?" Isabel no longer looked contemptuous, but asked curiously.
"You know what runes do," Noah said thoughtfully. "But we won't really be able to take full advantage of this tool until we have a clear understanding of how it works."
Take it out. I may not understand the essence of runes, but I'm pretty sure that almost no one really understands how things work on a basic level.
"I ...... It's not very clear, actually," Todd admits somewhat reluctantly.
"I don't know," Isabel said. "Does it really matter?"
Noah smiled lightly. "Isabel, that's a good question. Let's talk about magic as a whole. What exactly can magic do? ”
"Basically anything," Isabel replied confidently.
Noah raised an eyebrow slightly. "Is it really 'anything'? Are there no restrictions? ”
Is it serious?
"While you can have both fire runes and ice runes, you can only use one at a time." Isabel added after a moment's thought. "If you want to summon the power of the ice rune, you must first release the energy of the fire rune."
"Also, it can't be used to resurrect the dead," Todd said. "At least, that's what I've always heard."
"Great," Noah nodded. "So it actually has certain limitations. It's not omnipotent. It has boundaries. ”
Although he points out that it can obviously be used to resurrect the dead.
"I see." Isabel said. "So what?"
"Well, if something has only one limit, don't you think it could have more?" Noah asked rhetorically.
"Even so, what does it matter?" Isabel said confusedly.
"The problem is that if you don't know what you can't do, you can't really know what you can do," Noah explains. He taps the chalkboard with chalk to emphasize his point. "True understanding comes from having an understanding of the most basic components of what is being processed. So, answer your own question – why is it so important to understand the nature of runes? ”
"That way we can get a clear idea of what we're capable of," Todd said slowly. "However, I don't think you can hint anything out of this question."
Good to hear. Runes still seem to be a subject that needs to be studied.
"Anyone who claims to know exactly how things work is either a liar or a self-deluded. Learning never ends," Noah said. He flipped through the book at random, chose a page, and drew a rune on the blackboard.
When he turned to face the students, he noticed that they were all leaning forward in unison, their eyes wide as if they were about to fall.
"This ...... Is this the rune you just drawn? Isabel stammered, "Did you really just draw it?" ”
"That's right, it's a rune." Noah carefully admitted, trying to sort out what he had just done. "It's mentioned in my book."
"Is that what you're going to show us? Gratis? Todd asked, smiling.
"A teacher's job is to tell students knowledge, isn't it?" Noah replied.
"Someone must have knocked him on the head." Isabel whispered, Noah could hear her despite the silence in the classroom.
"Don't whisper during class," Noah said instinctively. Although he couldn't remember the last time he taught, something seemed to have remained the same. "Yes, I was hit in the head."
Isabel suddenly sat back in her seat. "I'm sorry."
At least a little respect is in it. It seems to be about the same.
"So," Noah said, his finger tapping over the rune he had just drawn. "What is this?"
"This is a rudimentary fire elemental rune." Todd explained, his gaze still resting on the runes in awe.
There are also different levels of runes? Interesting.
"I see. Can I use it to cast magic now? ”
"Of course not," Isabel explained. "You've just drawn a simple pattern and haven't internalized it."
"But you just told me that this is a fire elemental rune, and the rune itself is just a means of casting magic. If it can't be used to cast magic, then how can it be called a rune? ”
"You're finding fault," Todd smiled. "If you draw a rune on an object, connect it to yourself. That's how magic works. ”
"So runes aren't just tools for conducting magic," Noah confirmed, "and they seem to have a deeper purpose. ”
Although he points out that it can obviously be used to resurrect the dead.
"I see." Isabel said, "But so what? ”
"Well, if something has only one limitation, do you think it might have more functions?" Noah asked rhetorically.
"Even so, what does it matter?" Isabel was still confused.
"The problem is that if you don't know what you can't do, you can't really know what you can do." Noah explained. He taps the chalkboard with chalk to emphasize his point. "True understanding comes from knowing the most basic components of what is being dealt with. So, answer your own question – why is it so important to understand the nature of runes? ”
"It helps us get a clear picture of what we're capable of," Todd said slowly. "However, I don't think you can hint at anything by this question."
Good to hear. Runes still seem to be a subject that needs to be studied in depth.
When he turned to face the students, he noticed that they were all leaning forward in unison, their eyes wide as if they were about to fall.
"Yes, it's a rune." Noah carefully admitted, trying to sort out what he had just done. "It does have a mention in my book."
"Those who claim to know exactly how something works are either liars or self-deluded. Learning never ends," Noah said. He flipped through the book at random, picked a random page, and drew a rune on the blackboard.
When he turned to face the students, he noticed that they were all leaning forward in unison, their eyes wide as if they were about to fall.
"This ...... Is this the rune you just drawn? Isabel stammered, "Did you really just draw it?" ”
"Are you just going to let us see it for free?" Todd asked, smiling.
"A teacher's job is to impart knowledge, right?" Noah replied.
"Someone must have tapped him on the head." Isabel whispered. Despite the silence in the classroom, Noah could still hear her voice.
"Don't whisper in class," Noah said instinctively. Although he couldn't remember the last time he taught, something never seemed to change. "Yes, I did get hit in the head."
Isabel sat back in her seat abruptly. "I'm sorry."
At least with some respect. It seems that the situation is okay.
"So," Noah said, tapping on the rune he had just drawn. "What is this?"
"This is a rudimentary fire elemental rune." Todd explained, his gaze still resting on the runes in awe.
There are also different levels of runes? It's funny.
"I see. So can I use it to cast magic now? ”
"Of course not," Isabel explained. "You've just painted a simple pattern and you're not incorporating it into yourself."
"But you just told me it's a fire elemental rune, and the rune itself is just a tool for casting magic. If it can't really be used to cast magic, how can it be called a rune? ”
"You're finding fault," Todd smiled. "If you depict a rune on an object, connect it to yourself. That's how magic works. ”
"So the role of runes is more than just conducting magic," Noah confirmed. "They seem to have a deeper role as well."
Although he points out that it does seem to be useful to resurrect the dead.
"I see." Isabel said, "But so what? ”
"The question is, if something has only one limitation, do you think it could have more features?" Noah asked rhetorically.
"Even so, what does it matter?" Isabel was still confused.
"The problem is that if you don't know what you can't do, you can't really know what you can do." Noah explained. He taps the chalkboard with chalk to emphasize his point. "It helps us to have a clearer picture of what we're capable of," Todd said slowly. "However, I don't think you're going to be able to convey much through this question."
Good to hear. It seems that runes are indeed a subject worthy of in-depth study.

Isabel sat back in her seat abruptly. "I'm sorry."
At least with some respect. It seems that the situation is okay.
"So," Noah said, tapping on the rune he had just drawn. "What is this?"
Todd blinked, then nodded slowly.
"Then let's take a look at this." Noah pointed to the runes on the chessboard again, his excitement palpable.
Todd nodded again.
Noah flipped the book to another page and sketched a second rune on the blackboard with chalk. He ignored the surprised breathing of the two students. Although this rune was a bit more complicated than the previous one, he deliberately chose this one. After a few minutes, the classroom fell silent, save for the sound of his chalk scratching across the blackboard.
"Okay, what is this?" Noah said, finishing the drawing in his hand and taking a step back.
"It's a first-order fire rune," he replied, gasping.
Small, and big. So, could there be some not-so-good version of each rune?
"You seem to be more interested in this one than the other," Noah observed, his gaze full of curiosity.
"Of course it's different," Isabel exclaimed, a little unhappy with Noah's observation. "How can you say that low-level runes are as good as high-level runes?"
"I'm just deviating from your own definition," Noah explained, shrugging his shoulders and with a hint of a smile on his face. "Why is quality so important?"
"Advanced runes mean you can draw more magic and have more control over it. They are also able to store more energy, although it takes longer to recharge. “
"And they're harder to draw," Noah observed. "Wouldn't it be more convenient for me to draw a bunch of low-level runes directly?"
"Of course not," Todd's answer revealed a tone of answering the stupidest question, and his eyes turned serious. "In your soul, there are only seven rune slots, and at least seven are available. A bunch of bad runes, once put together, will severely weaken your abilities. “
Okay, so let's get started. Each level has seven rune slots, and I'm one level now. I guess the level of the runes is related to the level of the person. So, if I can merge seven first-level runes into one second-level rune, I will be able to upgrade to second-level. Then, merge the two second-level runes into a third-level rune, and so on. It's pretty simple.
"In my opinion, runes are more than just channels for magic," Noah said, raising an eyebrow in a thoughtful expression. "What do you think?"
Both Todd and Isabel nodded slowly. Although the previous doubts remain, more confusion has replaced them. Maybe they're not quite hooked on the topic yet, but curiosity is already growing unconsciously.
"The runes are...... Basics, I guess," Todd said, a hint of thought in his eyes. "The better runes you get in each level, the more powerful runes you'll be able to merge into in the next level. They are also able to gather energy. However, once you combine them, you are bound by them. So, before you decide to move up to the next level, it's crucial to make sure you understand what you're doing. I think so. “
"You don't seem to be sure in the tone of your voice," Noah said with a smile, a hint of amusement in his eyes.
"Of course," Todd muttered, as if answering the most ridiculous question in the world. His eyes darkened slightly, and he regained his composure. "After all, you've never been a teacher before."
"It's better than nothing." Noah said with a wry smile and shook his head. "Why don't you think about it? Give me the answer before the next class. Until then, let's move on. Keep it the same style – how do you access your runes? “
That's by far the most important question. How many runes does Vermeer actually have access to? There are more than seven in his book, which implies some sort of selection process.
"You just have to imagine yourself going deep inside," Isabel said after a moment. She paused slightly, frowning. "I think so. Maybe there are more details, I'm not sure. “
Todd didn't even bother to answer. He looked as if he was lost in thought, trying to find some clues from Noah's question.
Sorry, I didn't provide any great insight. Just trying to tease them. If you think about it, this is actually a lesson. Of course, I won't tell them this.
"Maybe we should spend some more time thinking about it. From the point of view of a curious child, they don't know what they're looking at," Noah said, crossing his fingers and leaning against the wall. "Go ahead. Find your runes and tell me what will happen when you're done. I'll do the same. “
Todd and Isabel both closed their eyes. Their breathing gradually stabilized, and they lowered their heads in contemplation, as if they were in meditation. Noah sat down in front of the podium, biting his lower lip. It's easy to say, but ...... It's another thing to feel the magic.
He also closed his eyes.
Good. Magic. Runes. Where will they be?
Noah's brow furrowed slightly, concentrating on imagining the runes he had drawn on the blackboard, but nothing seemed to happen. He bit his lip and delved deeper into his own heart, trying to find some mysterious feeling.
However, deep down he didn't find anything. After all, he had tried meditation countless times in his life. Of course, he had no doubts about the existence of magic in his heart. But even in another world, where he's in someone else's body, it's another thing to actually work magic.
There may be nothing to look for. Only his own presence and silence. However, this does not seem to be the case. In the depths of his heart, there is a small bright spot, hidden deep in the core of consciousness. It felt a little like a slight soreness in his thumb, barely noticeable until he focused. But now, once he realizes it, he can't ignore it anymore.
Energy blooms in the dark. Even though Noah closed his eyes, he could still see. In the endless darkness of his mind, glowing runes manifested in the air, flying towards him one after the other, like a heavy punch slamming into his chest, mercilessly announcing their existence.
The first five are wind runes. They are made up of swirling white and blue energies that pierce through the shadows like the sun on a cloudy day. The runes were the same ones he had seen in the Monkey Forest before. According to Vermeer's book, they are all low-level.
The next two runes are much more complicated. They emit a dull gray glow, which is different from the white-blue color. Noah also recognized these from the book - ash runes.
So, I have five wind runes and two ash runes. The wind runes don't seem to be very powerful, but the ash runes don't seem to be too bad. I don't know if I can upgrade or improve the Wind Rune. God, there's so much more to figure out. If you can......
Noah stumbled suddenly, and a force slammed into his chest, crushing against his heart. Primal fear welled up in his throat, and he jerked out his hands, trying to untie the invisible bondage.
Overhead, black lines with a lilac glow streaked across the sky. They converged into the last rune, hundreds of times larger than the size of the other seven runes. The energy it emitted almost crushed Noah, but he gritted his teeth and refused to let himself fall.
The rune completed on its own, and Noah subconsciously translated it, and the meaning of the rune suddenly flooded into his mind.
"Sander."
Noah's spine shuddered, as if the runes felt his approval. The overwhelming force faded, but the massive runes still hovered above him. More importantly, it reminded him of the monsters that attacked the waters of life and revival.
I wonder if this is the reason why I keep getting new bodies.
Noah swallowed, looked away, and cast his gaze on tiny spots of light at the edge of the darkness around him. He mentally drew closer to them.
He thought that a small part of his psyche had broken and split, leaving a blank white nothingness. As Noah approached, a faint buzz sounded in his head, like an echo in the breeze.
It's a door.
Noah doesn't know why, but he feels some kind of connection between his presence and this door. That buzz is an invitation, a call, a ...... Probably the answer to his next step.
He stopped in front of the door, facing it, feeling the call of that mysterious power. He could feel the power pouring out of the door, like a breeze through his skin, making his heart beat faster and filled with an exhilarating feeling.
During meditation, his body fades away, and his consciousness seems to enter another dimension. He is no longer Noah, he is a conscious being, floating in a boundless void.
In the void, there are countless points of light, which shimmer in various colors, like stars shining in the night sky. These points of light seem to represent an infinite range of possibilities, and Noah feels like he can reach them and become one with them.
His consciousness floats in this void, unconstrained by time and space. He was able to perceive the presence of magic, and he was able to feel the subtle connections between the different runes and the flow of energy. This feeling fascinated him, as if he was exploring the mysteries of the universe and solving mysteries one after another.
Time seemed to blur, and he no longer knew how long he had been in the void. But as his consciousness began to return to the real world, he felt as if he had gained a whole new kind of insight. His eyes opened slightly, and the focus refocused.
The students around him still had their eyes closed and seemed to be in deep meditation. Noah stared at them, an indescribable feeling welling up in his heart. They may not have fully understood, but at least they have taken a step towards the journey of exploring magic.
Noah quietly stood up, leaving behind a group of students who were still immersed in meditation. He felt joy and satisfaction in his heart, as if in this moment, he had found his meaning as a teacher.
The door of magic is open for them, and they only need to take the first step to explore the endless mysteries. It will be a journey full of challenges and surprises, but Noah firmly believes that each of them can find their own bright light in this journey.
