Chapter 347: Endure Humiliation (1)
Grow crops before you become a monk, and still grow crops after you become a monk!
You must know that the reason for leaving home and leaving your hometown is to practice, so that you can get rid of life and death, and become a Buddha and an ancestor, not to sell coolies for you!
You must understand that people come to Tianhua Temple to avoid the entanglement of the world, so that they can meditate on Zen, invent their hearts, and understand life, not to be a farmer!
However, not being able to practice as a monk is not the biggest annoyance of this reason, but the most unbearable thing for him is the notoriety that follows him like a shadow.
Every day from the temple to the temple field at the foot of the mountain, you have to pass through a village in front of the mountain gate. Every time he passed through the village, there was always someone pointing at him behind his back and poking him in the back; Some pointed to Sang and scolded Huai, sarcastic and sarcastic about him. Even, some young men deliberately spat on him and provoked, directly scolding him for being a flower monk......
Qi was speechless, so he had to hang his head and walk around the road to avoid the crowd. When you really can't avoid it, you can only bear it silently.
One day, in this hurry, it was convenient to go to a dongsi (toilet) in the village. He had just crouched down when a puddle of thin cow flew in from outside the wall and landed on his head impartially!
Faced with all kinds of unbearable insults, he didn't know how to get rid of it, and he felt that his chest was about to explode......
β¦β¦
Once, someone asked him bluntly: "Maitreya, he has also been a monk for a long time, why has he not been in the stream?" β
Maitreya said, "I am a person who has no mind, so I don't listen to it. β
"What is a Heartless Daoist?"
Maitreya replied, "He who has no heart has no mind." That is, to have no thoughts, no thoughts, and nothing to ask for anything. Therefore, if you make offerings to the Buddhas of the Ten Directions, it is better to offer to a person who has no mind. β
Although he was an optimist, he had to face the reality that because the people in the city knew that he had not yet attained fruit, few of them were willing to provide for him when he went into the city to beg for food.
Unable to beg for food, Maitreya had to go hungry often. He was still carefree when he was hungry, laughing all day long.
On this day, it was time to beg again. Maitreya saw that Sariputta and Rahula's master and apprentice stepped out of the prayer garden and walked towards the royal palace. He thought: Sariputta is the great disciple of the Buddha, and Rahula is the son of Shakyamuni Buddha before he became a monk, and the two of them will definitely be able to get many offerings when they go into the city to beg for food.
So he followed Sariputta and Rahula and walked to the royal palace to beg for food.
His wishful thinking was that people wouldn't be embarrassed to just snub him when they put food in their bowls, would they? Who knows, people are not as good as heaven. Normally, he begged alone, and he could still get some food, but now, following Sariputta and them, he didn't eat at allβ
When Sariputta and Rahula, who were walking in front of Maitreya, were about to enter the city gate, Maitreya found that a vicious and fierce man suddenly jumped out from the side.
He first threw a handful of sand into Sariputta's bowl.
Instead of being annoyed or angry, Sariputta nodded to him in gratitude as if he had received the most delicious food.
The wicked man rushed at Rahula again and punched him in the face a few times!
Seeing this, Maitreya subconsciously quickened his pace.
When the wicked man had finished his murder, he slipped away. Sariputta, who was standing aside, did not stop him and let him go.
When Maitreya arrived, he saw that Rahula's face was covered with blood, and his lips trembled in pain.
It could be seen that Rahuluo was gritting his teeth and holding back the anger in his chest.
At this time, Sariputta said, "Rahula, we are all disciples of the Buddha's teachings, and we should have the spirit of forbearance, and no matter what situation we encounter, we should not harbor resentment. We have to have compassion for all living beings. The Buddha often taught us to be patient and humiliating when it comes to personal grievances and slanders. Therefore, Rahula, quench the anger in your breasts and endure the humiliation in your heart. The greatest courage in the world is unbearable. No force in heaven and on earth can overcome endurance and humiliation. β
After listening to Master Sariputta's words, Rahula's mood tended to calm down. He walked to the river, where his bloodied face was reflected in the water. However, his heart did not fluctuate with it, and he silently picked up the water to wash away the blood stains.
When Sariputta and Maitreya saw this, their hearts were extremely moved.
Rahula said, "I don't take the pain just now, I don't take it to heart. There are many wicked people in this world, and there are many unsatisfactory things, and my heart is not burned with anger because of this. Just thought, how to deal with such a lawless thug is good? The Buddha taught us to be compassionate, to be kind to others, and to endure humiliation and accumulate virtue. But those who are foolish despise us because of this, and instead respect those who are so cruel. The truth that the Buddha demonstrated was as unresponsive to them as the sun shone on a dead body. Sweet dew fell from heaven, and the pigs also shared. But the pigs still like dirty places where sewage flows. Is the true meaning of life taught by the Buddha valid for those who are ignorant? β
When Sariputta heard this, he was very satisfied with Rahula. So, they returned to the Prayer Garden.
The Buddha listened to Sariputta's words, praised Rahula's spirit of forbearance, and said to all the monks, "Those who do not know patience will not be able to see the Buddha, they will turn away from the Dharma, they will be far away from the monks, and they will not be liberated in samsara." Only those who can endure evil deeds can eliminate calamities and find peace. A wise person can perceive cause and effect, so he can control the generation of resentful thoughts and endure humiliation. Forbearance is the help of cultivation, which can liberate you as soon as possible; Patience is like a boat in the sea, which can overcome all suffering; Forbearance is the medicine of the sick and can save people's lives. The reason why I was able to become a Buddha, walk in the Three Realms alone, and be admired by the heavens is because my heart is stable and I know the value of forbearance and virtue! β
In order to make the disciples better understand the method of forbearance, the Buddha told another story, a story about his own personal experience.
It was a long time ago, when the Buddha was still practicing as a bodhisattva. At that time, there was a country called Polo, and the king's name was Kali. In the deep mountains of this country, there is a great immortal named Yiti Po Li. He lived with 500 disciples in a quiet mountain forest, practicing forbearance and humiliation.
One day, King Kali took four ministers, as well as the ladies and maids of the royal palace, to play in the mountains and forests. The king of Kali had been riding his horse all the way, and as soon as he reached the edge of the mountain forest, he felt tired and tired. So, he took a nap under a big tree. Those young, lively and active palace maids are held in the palace all day long, how can they give up this hard-won opportunity to play? They winked at each other, and quietly left the place where the king rested, and went on a tour of the mountains.
It is the bright spring season, the mountains are full of flowers, the branches of green trees and kingfishers are singing, coupled with the beautiful palace maids singing and dancing, the quiet mountains and forests are filled with a romantic and warm atmosphere......
The beautiful and touching palace maids enjoyed the beautiful scenery of spring while picking flowers all over the mountains and fields, and sprinkled laughter and laughter all over the mountains and valleys.
When they came to a secluded valley, under a large tree that looked like an umbrella, they saw a practitioner sitting upright and meditating.
He didn't move, he didn't see their beautiful movies, he didn't hear their beautiful singing.
Looking at his focused demeanor, even if the mountain collapsed in front of him, even if the thunder exploded in his ears, it couldn't make his heart shake.
Needless to say, what the palace maids saw was the immortal Tipo pear. They were filled with respect and reverence, and scattered the flowers in their hands on the immortals.
Seeing that the palace maids were offering flowers, the immortal Ti Boli slowly came out of the hall and greeted them.
They reverently sat in front of the immortals and asked him to speak the Dharma.
King Kali woke up from a nap and looked around, but there were only four ministers waiting around him, and he did not see his concubines.
The king was very unhappy, and he and his four ministers searched for them everywhere.
The king and the others went to the valley where the immortals were cultivating, and saw the maidens sitting quietly in front of the immortals, listening to the immortals with full attention and thirst, and ignoring his arrival.
The king's heart could not help but burn, and anger rose in his chest. He asked the immortal angrily: "You have already obtained it in the four voids?" β
He replied, "No." β
The king then asked, "Have you attained the four immeasurables?" β
The four immeasurable minds, namely, compassion - to give happiness to all sentient beings, compassion - to save all sentient beings from suffering, joy - to see people do good, to be happy from suffering, to be deeply happy, to give up - to be equal to relatives and relatives, not to love or hate.
She shook her head and said, "I didn't get it." β
The king asked for the third time, "So, how are you practicing the four meditations?" β
After cultivating the four meditations, you can become a monk......
However, he replied, "No." β
The king was furious and said, "You have not attained any of these merits, which means that you are still an ordinary man." And a big man alone with these beautiful young and beautiful women, and in this secluded valley, the devil knows what you are doing! β
The immortal knew that no matter what he said, the king would not believe it, so he remained silent.
Then the king asked, "What are you doing in the midst of the mountains and forests?" β
The immortal Yi Ti Poli said, "I am practicing forbearance and humiliation. β
The king sneered and said, "You don't have any meditation as a foundation, how can you endure humiliation?" It's just lip service! If you can bear it, I'll give it a try and see if you can endure it! β
As he spoke, the king drew his sword, smacked twice, and cut off the two hands of the immortals. Then, he asked the immortals, "Can you bear it?" β
The immortal nodded and said, "Bear with the humiliation." β
The king didn't believe it, can a man who has his hands cut off alive not feel resentment?
Look how hard your mouth is! He was ruthless and cut off the two feet of the immortal.
However, the pear face did not change color, and he still said that he was practicing forbearance and humiliation.
The king cut off his ears and cut off his nose. Yi Ti Po Li is still calm, and he still calls it humiliation.
At this time, the heavens and the earth were inspired by the spirit of the immortals, and sent out six kinds of vibrations - whenever a saint was born, became a monk, became enlightened, entered Nirvana, etc., the heaven and earth moved, surged, shook, struck, roared, and exploded, indicating auspiciousness with six signs.
The five hundred disciples of the immortals sensed the change, flew through the air, and asked the master, "Have you forgotten that you have been so cruel and humiliated?" β
He replied, "My heart has not changed in the slightest, and it is as calm as water." β
The king was astonished when he heard the immortal say this. However, he still couldn't believe it and asked, "You said that you endured humiliation, but his heart was not moved, how can he prove it?" β
The immortal Ti Poli replied, "If I am honest and sincere, my red blood will turn into white milk, and my body will be restored to its original state." β
As soon as the immortal finished speaking, something incredible happened: the blood that flowed from his body turned milky white in an instant, and his body was as calm as before, as if it had never been harmed.
At this time, the god of the heavenly dragon in the mountain was very angry when he saw that the king of Kali had innocently wronged and mutilated the immortals. They intend to avenge the death of the king and his retinue for the immortals! Clouds of black mist slammed down on the king, and thunderbolts of lightning exploded above him......
At this critical moment, the immortal Ti Boli hurriedly turned his back to the sky and said, "If you are really for my good, don't hurt the king and the others. β
So, the smoke disappeared and the thunder and lightning subsided.
The king, who had already been frightened, was already frightened at the moment when the immortal's forbearance was confirmed, and at this time, he saw that the immortal had saved his life, and he was so moved that he didn't know what to do.
He scolded himself for having eyes and beads, insulting the great immortals for no reason, and deserving of death. He begged the immortals for forgiveness and accepted his confession.
He said to him, "May my forbearance be like the earth, and I will treat you with the grandeur of the earth, and after I become a Buddha, I will first cut off your greed, hatred, and ignorance with the sword of wisdom." β
In the face of the filthy endurance of the immortals, the king of Kali was so ashamed that he wanted to prostrate himself at his feet and repent of his sins.
After that, the king often invited immortals to the royal palace to make offerings. There were a thousand foreign ways in the kingdom, and when they saw that the king had a special respect for the pear, he was jealous.
So, they sprinkled the monk's retreat with dung in order to provoke the immortal and sabotage his practice.
When she saw this, instead of being angry, she felt even more pity for them. He immediately swore to the outsiders, "I practice forbearance today for the benefit of sentient beings. In the future, if I attain enlightenment and become a Buddha, I will first use Dharma water to cleanse your dirt and remove the filth from your soul, so that you will be pure forever. β
Finally, Shakyamuni Buddha told everyone, "The Buddha of Etipori at that time is who I am now; King Kali and the four ministers are today's five bhikshus such as Qiao Chenru; The thousand Sanskrit monks are a thousand monks such as Yu Beiluo. I swore an oath when I was a forbearance immortal, so I saved them first after I attained enlightenment. β
β¦β¦
At this time, he was thrown a head and a back of cow dung, and he was stinky, so he had to return to Tianhua Temple to wash the dirt and change his clothes.
Just as he was scraping cow dung from the monk's robe with a wooden stick, the abbot monk came over and asked him, "So, why are your clothes stained with cow dung?" β
In the face of sorrow, it is said that it is sorrowful, and when it comes to sorrow, it is sad and sad.
Monk Yunqing said a word, and asked about the sadness of Qi, so he didn't speak, and the tears of grievance flowed down first......
After Monk Yunqing figured out the reason, he asked Qi this: "Qi this, if you catch the person who threw cow dung on you red-handed, will you beat him?" β
He shook his head.
Yun Qing asked again: "Will you scold him?" β
He shook his head again.
The old monk asked for the third time: "Although you don't beat or scold, do you resent those who insulted you for no reason?" β
This time, he spoke: "Master, I hate, I hate it so much!" I hate those who insult others indiscriminately and at will! β
Monk Yunqing shook his head lightly and said, "Yes, you are wrong!" You must know that a thought of hatred burns the meritorious forest. If you have a grudge against sentient beings, how can you increase your wisdom? How can a cultivator reach his destination without blessing capital, just as a person who travels far away without drinking water and dry food? β
"However, Master...... "they do not distinguish between loyalty and evil, between good and evil, and take pleasure in insulting others..... and in the face of other people's evil words, what should I do?" How to get out of this embarrassing situation? β
Monk Yunqing said solemnly: "To get rid of it is to escape." In life, everything must be faced with the opposite, and we must bear it directly! So, not only should you not hate sentient beings, but you should also have compassion for them and be tolerant of them from the bottom of your heart. In the face of resentment and harm, you need to smile with sincerity. β
Qi Ji smiled bitterly and said, "Master, this is too difficult, isn't it?" How? β
Monk Yunqing didn't answer and asked, "So, where did you put the cow dung you scraped from the monk's robe?" β
He looked at his feet and said, "Put it on the ground." β
Monk Yunqing asked again: "What about the sewage you washed your hair?" β
He said, "It was sprinkled on the ground." β
At this time, the old monk pointed to the big one under his feet and said, "The earth is wide and thick, and no matter what kind of dirt and dirt can be accommodated." Even if you impose on it the most filthy things, such as cow dung, feces and urine, pus and blood, it can accept it calmly and without any intention of rebellion. Therefore let our hearts be as patient as the earth and magnanimous as the earth. The Buddhist scriptures say that when Maitreya Buddha was a bodhisattva, he always gave all kinds of pleasure and forbearance like the earth. β
He looked down at the dirt he had gotten on the ground, thoughtful. I don't know how long it took, but he still hung his head and asked, "Master, the practice of forbearance and humiliation in the Bodhisattva's Six Perfections should be the grand forbearance of the earth, right?" β
No one answered. He raised his head, where was the figure of the old monk? The sight was empty and clean, as if Abbot Yunqing had never appeared.
Re-examine the ground beneath your feet.
It is heavy, carrying mountains, rivers, grass and trees, no matter flowers and weeds, no matter bed bugs and fleas, it silently accepts them; It is magnanimous, let you pigs, arch chickens, shave, cattle and sheep to trample, let you snot, spit, and pee, it is unmoving....
I suddenly understood that the reason why I can endure humiliation and be insulted and hurt by others without hatred is that my heart is not moving! In other words, if the mind is settled on the Dharma, it will be able to develop perseverance and willpower, and it will not be shaken by external troubles. Forbearance seems to be weak, but it is strong inside, and being able to endure infinitely is infinite strength.
If you can endure it or not, go through all kinds of sufferings and do not change your original intention, you can get blessings and wisdom, you can achieve Taoism, and you can realize the supreme Bodhi!
At this point, my heart suddenly became clear.
He bravely went out into the outside world. People still sarcastically and sarcastically mocked him mercilessly, but his heart remained unmoving, so he could still maintain a kind smile on his face. He is often blinded by people for no reason, and is abused for no reason, he is not annoyed or angry, as if he is a stone man without heart and lungs.
Of course, this is not unintentional, but not tempted.
Because his mind dwells in the realm of immovable emptiness, he feels a peace and tranquility that he has never felt before.
And this kind of physical relaxation and psychological pleasure brought by serenity and purity is beyond the reach of any entertainment and pleasure in the world....
Since then, he has truly become a smiling Bodhisattva.
One day, he was bending over to weed in a rice field by the side of the road, when suddenly, with a "plop", a black thing fell into the rice ridge in front of him, and the splashing muddy water made him look all over.
It was a straw sandal, a broken straw shoe with a big lump of mud.
A broken straw sandal, whether it gets muddy or not, will not fly over on its own.
Sure enough, there was a young man standing on the road with a wicked smile on his face. He said, "Monk, I heard that you are very fond of finding broken shoes, so I will give you one." β
Of course, he knew that the young man was mocking himself with broken shoes, but he still folded his hands, smiled all over his face, and said sincerely: "Thank you for your generosity." A pair of broken straw sandals may seem useless, but when placed in the field, they are excellent fertilizer and can make the rice harvest. I would like to dedicate the merits of Terada's harvest to you, and may the Three Jewels be blessed with you for a long and healthy life. β
As he spoke, he stuffed the broken straw shoes into the rice field without being humble or arrogant, and continued to bend down to pull the weeds.
The middle-aged man didn't expect this ending anyway, he was stunned for a moment in embarrassment, and walked away boringly.
However, he was very unwilling, and beckoned a few children who were playing on the side of the road and whispered something in their ears.
So, the urchins sang to this deed:
A broken shoe is not right, and the flower monk loves to smell the smell. A fox has become a spirit, and he came to find the big-bellied monk.
β¦β¦
The children sang over and over again, but they turned a deaf ear to this, and continued to work as usual. The middle-aged man had no choice but to go.
Once, when he went to the market to buy farm tools, a reckless young man was just in a hurry and collided with him.
Both of them were dizzy and in extreme pain.
The young man was young and vigorous, and instead of examining his own mistakes, he scolded: "Are you blind? Hit Lao Tzu! β
Qi quickly apologized: "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I didn't pay attention to it, and it hurt you." β
But the young man didn't give up: "Say I'm sorry and forget it!" You stained my clothes, what should I do? β
At this moment, he immediately brushed the dust that did not exist with his hand. Unbeknownst to him, the young man yelled viciously: "Take away your dirty hands! Don't get caught in my sass! β
In order to get the young man to quench his anger, he kowtowed to him and apologized. At this time, the people on the street couldn't see it, and accused the young man of being unreasonable and too unreasonable. The young man didn't care, pointed to Qi Ben's nose and said to everyone, "Do you know who this monk is? He is the flower monk who specializes in priing the widow's door! β
"Phew, it's him!"
"I said why the streets are full of stench, so that's what happened!"
People's sense of justice and sympathy immediately disappeared, and instead they made insulting remarks and insults.
I don't know who threw a piece of rotten vegetables at the deed first, so people threw all kinds of dirty garbage at the deed......
Qi didn't say a word, and endured it silently. He didn't run away quickly, didn't cover with his hands, didn't even dodge without any reflexes!
A brick caught in the rain of garbage flew towards the deed...
"Little monk, hide!" A woman shouted sharply.
As if he hadn't heard, Ren smashed the brick on his head, causing blood to flow......
It's still the same woman's voice. Feeling that the noise was somewhat familiar, he subconsciously glanced over there, and then he saw a woman with tears streaming down her faceβthe woman who had testified against him to his face!
Fearing that the woman would do something irrational, he turned around and walked outside the market. When the people saw that the flesh on his head was blurred and the blood was flowing, they stopped throwing debris at him.
He walked to a small river outside the town and silently washed the blood and dirt from his face. Suddenly, he heard a stumble of footsteps behind him. Before he could react, there was a "plop", and a person knelt down in front of him.
It's that woman! It's her, the one who pushed this into the abyss!
She was disheveled, weeping bitterly, kowtowing like pounding garlic, and her head was pounding on the ground.
Qi was stunned by her almost crazy behavior, he was a monk, and he couldn't pull her with his hands, and he didn't know what to do for a while.
The woman finally stopped hitting her head on the ground, but opened her bow left and right again, and slapped herself in the face. Qi hurriedly said: "Donor, don't be like this! If you have something to say, it's good to say. β
The woman cried out in pain: "Master, you don't have to worry about me! I'm a shitty shit, and I deserve to die! I coveted their money and deliberately framed you, and I was innocent of death! β
Qi said: "Female benefactor, I have already forgiven you, let alone hated you, so you don't have to spoil yourself anymore." β
The woman was stunned, thinking that she had misheard, and asked, "What, little master, don't you hate me?" β
Qi nodded and said, "Not only do I not hate you, but I should also be grateful to you." β
The woman thought he was so angry, so she deliberately said the opposite.
Yes, he was framed for no reason, causing his reputation to be discredited and humiliated, and even an iron man would be blown up by hatred!
The woman said to herself: "I am a shameless woman who has lost her conscience and made the little master suffer a lot." So, you should hate me, curse me, and let me thunder five times in the sky! Don't worry, I will go to Tianhua Temple to explain the truth to the master and the abbot monk, and give you justice. β
Qi said: "Donor, you misunderstood and didn't really understand what I meant. I mean, you gave me the opportunity to practice patience and humiliation, so that I could truly experience the suffering and pure joy of life. So, I'm really grateful to you. β
The woman still didn't understand: "Anyway, because of my lies, you have been wronged, and you should be innocent..."
He interrupted her: "How can the nature be made cloudy by its purity? It was originally white, how can it be polluted? So, donor, let the past pass. More is better than less. β
"However, people have misunderstood you and regarded you as a flower monk......"
"Since it was a misunderstanding, I slowly understood. As for whether I am a flower monk or not, facts speak louder than words, and I believe that people can make their own judgments. β
The woman felt sorry for him, and kept blaming herself, repenting, apologizing, and always trying to make up for something.
