Chapter 17: The Way to Go
"Coach, what is this?"
Selwan didn't want to hide it, he smiled faintly: "This, as you can see, is my resignation letter. β
Yu Fei is not surprised, in fact, anyone who wants to leave K-M, he understands.
Even if they had just won the state championship, Selwan would not hesitate to move to a higher platform if they had the opportunity to move to a higher platform.
Because K-M is always K-M, it doesn't change because of a state championship.
"When did this happen?" Yu Fei asked.
"The other day, St. John's College approached me and they wanted me to go there as an assistant coach." There was some excitement in Selwan's words, "I've been waiting for such an opportunity!" β
Yu Fei smiled sincerely; "Congratulations on escaping prison, Coach."
"Do you think this is a prison too?" Selwan looked at Yu Fei with interest. He thought that a student like Yu Fei would have some sense of honor in his alma mater.
Kent Merridian High School is on the East Mountain, and Yu Fei's home is on the East Mountain, so it is a matter of course for him to come here to go to school.
Unexpectedly, Yu Fei also had this opinion on K-M.
"K-M is a prison for everyone on the hill." Yu Fei said.
Selwan looked at the teenager in front of him and couldn't help but remember that it only took one year for K-M to go from a mountain prison in Kent City to a city honors school.
And Yu Fei is the main promoter of this matter.
Without him, this could not have happened.
Even Selwan's work as an assistant coach at St. John's College was because of Yu Fei's joining, which allowed the Royals to enter the state tournament, allowing him to enter the sight of college basketball.
But who is Selwan alone?
The Royals have four players on full Division I scholarships, and even assistant coach Gwent Demio has been on the radar of college basketball.
Thinking of this, Selwan couldn't help but say to Fei: "Fulai, I have to thank you, if it weren't for you, I wouldn't have gotten this opportunity." β
Yu Fei did not hypocritically respond that he could get this opportunity all because of Selwan's outstanding talent, and he joked: "I'm very grateful, one pork chop meal is enough." β
"Before leaving, I'll treat you to a super double pork chop meal." Serwan laughed.
Walking out of Servan's office, Yu Fei went to find Demio and told him that he was going to participate in the ABCD training camp.
"It's a great opportunity, and if you're going to play in this year's draft, this is the ultimate test before you make that decision. β
Kevin Garnett became famous in ABCD training camp, Kobe Bryant blew up everyone in the training camp, and the originally unknown Tracy McGrady went from being a self-registered person and a miscellaneous fish who couldn't rank in the training camp to being the No. 1 high school student in the training camp, as well as Lamar Odom, Darius Myers...
All of the biggest high school basketball prodigies of the past six years have left their mark at ABCD camp.
The problem with Demio was that he wanted to go with him, but the head of ABCD only provided accommodation services for Yu Fei.
There are a lot of high school students who take their classmates to the camp, especially those who are at the top of the list, and they all have a bunch of entourage, and they have a clear division of labor, some are responsible for livening up the atmosphere, some are responsible for shooting highlight shots, and some are commercial agents for the players, who are responsible for negotiating with the sneaker company.
Generally, high school students who have their own business agents plan to skip college and go straight to the draft.
"It's okay, the training camp only lasts for 4 days anyway, and we can find a hotel." Yu Fei made up his mind.
Demio began to prepare for this.
It's still early, it's early February, and the ABCD bootcamp is held in early March, and they have a month to customize the plan.
After determining that Demio was going with him, Yu Fei went to his mother and told her about it.
When Yu Fei said that he was going to New Jersey next month to participate in a more advanced event than the Nike Regional Invitational, Yu Fenglin was no longer surprised.
"Since they've invited you, let's go." Yu Fenglin asked, "What do you need me to do?" β
Yu Fei said shyly: "Hmm... Quint wanted to go with me, but the person in charge there only entertained me, so we planned to find a hotel there. β
Yu Fenglin understood, the stinky boy wanted a little funding.
"When does the bootcamp start?"
"Starting on the 10th of next month."
"You go and ask the person in charge about the exact location." Yu Fenglin said, "When the time comes, I will help you find a safe hotel." β
Safe hotel...
Yu Fei wants to know what an unsafe hotel is like, and will someone stuff a sexy little business card under the door of the hotel?
But since his mother wants to take care of this, Yu Fei has no reason to refuse, because adults must be better at choosing hotels than him, and they are all from here, you know.
Subsequently, Yu Fei went to contact Brandon Roy again.
The moment Roy received the call, he heard the other end of the phone ask, "Hey, Mr. Basketball 2000, do you have any plans for next month?" β
"I'm going to go to New Jersey next month for an ABCD bootcamp." Roy laughed, "What about you? What's the plan, well, should I call you that, Mr. Basketball in Washington State 2001? β
Since Roy was elected Washington State Basketball Man last year, Yu Fei has been referring to him in this way.
But this year, Yu Fei's popularity has risen, and it's certain that Roy won't be elected Washington State Basketball Man for two consecutive years.
"You know, no one knows this so-called training camp better than me, I didn't want to go..."Yu Fei Versailles paused, "But there is no way, the staff of the training camp have to invite me to go, and arrange my food, clothing, housing and transportation, I am really gracious." β
Roy's eyes straightened: "They invited you?" β
"yes, didn't they invite you?"
Roy was embarrassed.
He was invited last year as one of Washington state's most high-profile 11th graders.
But this year, Yu Fei made a big show, almost sucking away the outside attraction of Washington State's top high school students, Roy was also said by some scouts to be slow progress, and the high school ranking did not rise but fell, originally a top 70 high school student in the United States, but now his name is no longer on the big list, and he is also ranked in the top 80 and top 90 in the United States in the small list.
"So, you can go home with $1,000 Nike gear?" Roy managed to change the subject.
"You know, no one knows the way of the so-called open-brand basketball equipment better than me, and I never cared about these things outside of me."
"I care, you can't send me."
The current Roy can't imagine that in the future he can own any brand of sports equipment, as long as he wants.
"Yes, you can choose for yourself when the time comes."
"It's decided?"
"It's settled."
"I love you to death, Da Fei!" Roy said, "Really, I'm even willing to give you my 2000 Washington State Basketball Mr. Award." β
Yu Fei switched back to the tone of the owe bian again: "You know, no one knows better than me..."
At that time, Roy wanted to call him an idiot and hang up the phone, but for the sake of the $1,000 Nike gear, he not only endured it, but also laughed.
This is the path that a precocious boy must take to transform into a man.
You must be able to be soft, hard, bent and stretched.

"One of the reasons the Grizzlies are interested in trading Sharif Abdu-Raheem or Mike Bibby is that they need another first-round pick. It was the foreshadowing of their 1997 trade for Otis Thorpe from the Detroit Pistons. Because of that trade, the Grizzlies have the option to send a top-18 pick this year. Vancouver would prefer to acquire draft picks from other teams, by making a trade and keeping their own picks, which will undoubtedly be a lottery pick. If the Grizzlies don't complete the trade in 2001, they run the risk of losing a higher pick over the next two years: in 2002, Vancouver's draft picks were protected only within the top five picks, and in 2003 only when the pick was the first pick. - Sports Illustrated
