Chapter 8: Here I Am, Australia!
On April 2, 1900, after a short three-day break, the fleet set off again, this time to Arthur's terminus, Australia.
Speaking of Australia, up to now, Australia is only a regional designation, in fact, Australia is a combination of six colonies: Western Australia, South Australia, Queensland, Victoria, New South Wales and Tasmania.
Although these six colonies are located on the Australian continent, it is a region of complete and the same culture.
However, because of Britain's various colonial problems in history, as well as colonial strategies, this led to the division of the whole Australia into six colonies, and the colonies governed each other and did not interfere with each other.
Since the beginning of modern times, Australia's various lands have also faced a number of common problems, including tariffs, transportation, postal services, defense, and restrictions on Asian immigration, so that the six colonies have to start thinking about convening a colonial conference to negotiate a unified standard.
In November 1880, the Melbourne Colonial Assembly agreed to establish a Federal Council, and the Federal Council Bill was drafted by the largest and most developed colony of New South Wales, which was also a sign of the unity and union of Australia.
In 1883 the Federal Council was formed, and a year later the colonies began to ask the British government to support the Federal Council's bills.
In 1891, Australia's first party, the Labour Party, was formed, and the trade union movement grew to break down the boundaries that had long been maintained by the colonies, and calls for free trade and the beginning of union between the colonies grew louder.
In 1893, the Federal Council convened a meeting of delegates of the Confederation in Croix, which called on and recommended that the colonies begin to take steps to prepare for the establishment of the Confederation.
Even in 1898 the Australian Federation Council had begun preparations for a referendum on the establishment of a federation, but the referendum did not progress much because of the disparities between the colonies.
It was not until Queen Victoria announced Australia as Arthur's new territory some time ago and decided to unify the six colonies into a single Duchy of Australia, that the call for unification among the colonies began to subside, and the new Duchy of Australia began to be expected.
On 27 April, after a half-month voyage, the fleet arrived in Sydney, the capital of New South Wales.
New South Wales is the earliest British colony in Australia, and it is also the most populous and economically developed Australian colony.
New South Wales was also the most vocal colony in the process of Australian federalisation, and was also responsible for drafting the Federal Council Act.
According to the situation in Australia, as long as New South Wales is mastered, the situation in Australia is basically mastered.
On the harbor of Sydney, the crowd was already standing to greet them. At the front of the crowd were the prime ministers and officials of the colonies, standing in a dense row.
On the side of the welcoming crowd, a group of soldiers was waiting for it. They belonged to the armies of their respective colonies and were directly under the orders of the Ministry of Defence and Queen Victoria.
As soon as the fleet slowly approached the shore, the crowd immediately erupted in strong cheers. After the sound of the music, Arthur slowly landed on Australian soil with Queen Victoria in his arms.
"Long live Her Majesty! Long live His Royal Highness the Duke! The crowd of onlookers erupted in cheers and shouted in the wake of the two rulers.
Unlike in the Suez Canal and in India, Queen Victoria did not step forward, but motioned for Arthur to go with her eyes.
Arthur immediately understood, stepped forward, looked up at the excited crowd, and finally stood in front of the six prime ministers.
"Your Highness, welcome home!" The six prime ministers said together.
Arthur was stunned for a moment, and then suddenly realized. Australia is already his only territory, and Arthur's future home will be in Australia.
If there is no special thing, the UK will basically not go back.
"You're supposed to be the prime ministers of the colonies, aren't you? How is Australia doing? Arthur asked, smiling.
"Yes, Your Highness. Allow me to introduce you to the Prime Ministers of the various colonies. The leader said with a smile and a slight compliment.
"Hmm." Arthur motioned to continue.
"Your Highness, I am Evan A. H. Parkes, Prime Minister of New South Wales. The man continued: "These are Victoria's Prime Minister Walter Blark, Queensland's Prime Minister Andrew King Porter, Tasmania's Prime Minister Richard Norber Chapman, Western Australia's Prime Minister Pierre Silvio Berlusconi, and South Australia's Prime Minister Thomas Cech. Upon hearing of your arrival, they immediately came from their respective regions to greet you and Her Majesty as soon as possible. ”
"Well, are you all calling these people too?" Arthur asked curiously, looking at the excited crowd around him.
"Not really, Your Highness. Did you know that the six colonies of Australia are no longer suitable for the current situation, and the inconsistency of the systems between the colonies makes it extremely difficult to trade with each other, which causes great problems for both the colonies and the inhabitants. People have been looking forward to the federalisation of Australia for a long time, and it is because of you that Australia has a chance to be unified. Thank you, Your Highness! "Evan M. Chancellor H. Parks said as he saluted Arthur again with a slight gratefulness.
"Nothing, Prime Minister Evan. In the future, I will also be a part of Australia, and isn't it the job of all Australians to maintain Australia's unity? Arthur smiled and lifted Prime Minister Evan up.
"Alright, Prime Minister Evan, take me and Your Majesty to rest first, the long sea journey is tiring enough. Let these people go back too, and don't delay their work and life because of welcoming me. Arthur said with a smile.
"Yes, Your Highness, please come with me. I have asked people to clean up the highest floor of the government affairs building, and the conditions are not good, so I can only temporarily grieve where you and Her Majesty live. As he led the way, Prime Minister Evan explained to Arthur and Queen Victoria with a slight apology.
Before the establishment of the Commonwealth of Australia, Australia's economy had been dominated by the sale of minerals, agriculture and fishing, although the situation of the early colonies had to be imported from the British, although it was only barely enough to make ends meet.
In addition, the colonies are not connected to each other, resulting in the overall economic development of Australia, the industry is very backward, and the finances of each colony are very tight.
While the richest New South Wales is better, it would be fanciful to want to build a palace worthy of Arthur and Queen Victoria.
