Chapter 70: The Man Who Has No Fear
The 2001-02 NBA season had a lot of high-profile major storylines, such as Toronto's eventual retention of the popular spicy chicken Vince Carter in Canada and the acquisition of Hakeem Olajuwon, a top-five center in history;
Orlando's Grant Hill is making a comeback, and his combination with Maddie is a lot of imagination;
Chris Webb left Sacramento all but in the summer, but under the media narrative, where the process doesn't matter, the result matters, Webber stays and signs a well-paid contract;
It is widely believed that Tim Duncan's relationship with the Spurs is almost only two seasons away, as David Robinson is almost certain to retire in 2003, and that summer, Orlando has plenty of room to welcome the Stone Buddha, who has always had a crush on Orange City. Still, Duncan still needs to do something in the Holy City, such as picking up another championship to prove that the 1999 lockout season championship wasn't accidental.
Other than that, are Utah's Malone and Stockton and Phoenix's Marbury and Hardaway the best and least compatible combination in the NBA? Can Nowitzki be better? Will he struggle on the garbage team like Garnett in Minneapolis?
The most notable were the riots between the Lakers and the Wizards, OK and Jordan's second return, but in last night's opener, a rookie managed to grab the media attention and dominate the headlines.
"Gary Smith says Frye is the chosen one, and that's probably true." The Washington Post's Steve Wyche wrote in a report the next day.
Yu Fei, who made his career debut and contributed a quasi-lore, attracted enough attention.
Reebok, who had previously been suspicious of Fei, began to hype up Yu Fei's performance.
And Yu Fei didn't put much thought into these things.
The Wizards' season starts on the road, and the next stop is also on the road.
On Nov. 1, they will take on the Hawks in Atlanta.
However, in the meantime, they can go back and rest for the day.
Verizon Center
Yu Fei got off the plane and returned to the team's training base with the team bus.
He decided to start training directly.
The stellar performance on his debut convinced Yu Fei that hard work paid off, and that he could certainly desert, but only after he had established himself.
With the Wizards, as long as Jordan doesn't fall, then nothing is guaranteed.
Kwame Brown joins Yu Fei's queue.
Yu Fei's pursuit made Brown envious and jealous, he was the champion, these compliments should have been given to him, but who made him make such a bad debut?
Brown wanted to train according to Yu Fei's standards, but found that he didn't understand it at all.
Yu Fei's training was too boring.
"Fry, what the hell am I supposed to do?" Brown sat on the ground in frustration.
Seeing that Brown was only hot for three minutes of training, Yu Fei could only sigh that his water was a result of the inside out.
First he can't do it himself, then the people who train him can't, and finally the people who coach him can't, and the result of "you, me, and him" is that Brown can't realize his talent.
"You can put down the training first, and now it's important to get used to the running position." Yu Fei called Brown, and then Anthony Lawson, and the three simulated the actual battle by the way.
Lawson acts as a defender to defend Yu Fei and Brown's pick-and-roll cooperation.
Yu Fei wanted to familiarize Brown with the feeling of dismantling and receiving the ball after blocking and dismantling.
It's just that Lawson's defense is really not threatening, Yu Fei can pass all kinds of bad balls, and Brown can catch them.
But in practice, a large part of these balls will slip out of his hands.
The quality of practice is average, but it at least gives Brown an idea of what he can do on the offensive end.
As the afternoon training day approached, many of the players had already arrived at the Verizon Center.
Richard Hamilton always arrives on time and leaves on time, he won't be late, but don't expect him to stay and practice either
He's in a good mood today because he won the opener yesterday, and not many reporters have asked him how he's going to work with Jordan, and the focus is all on Fly.
Can you finish the first game of your career? What a lucky rookie!
When Hamilton walked into the dressing room, he thought he had seen it wrong.
Jordan sat in a folding chair in front of the locker room, wearing no socks and bath slippers with North Carolina blue on his feet, but otherwise he was already wearing a jersey and another ice pack on his left knee. Grover sat in a cubicle next to him. It was Tyrone Nesby's cubicle. Nesby bought it from Leitner for $10,000 to get the position.
Now, this is Tim Grover's cubicle.
Why can a trainer have his own compartment in the player locker room at the training base? It's the player's turf, and what qualifies Grover to own his own cubicle?
"Rip, you're a minute late."
Hamilton is probably one of the few players on the team who can see Jordan's smiling face on a regular basis.
Jordan sees Hamilton as a second Pippen, a "Robin" who is very strong and can bring a lot of help to himself.
Hamilton never thought of himself as Robin and didn't want to be Batman.
In Philadelphia, where he and Kobe Bryant's AAU team took the country by storm, and in college, where he led Connecticut to defeat Elton Brand's Duke to win the national championship, he never failed anywhere and couldn't imagine himself failing. This mental precociousness and composure is the reason why he has grown rapidly into a starting team since entering the NBA. Last season, Hamilton rightfully became the centerpiece of the team after the team traded Juwan Howard, but just one summer later, he lost his leadership position because Jordan arrived.
Hamilton is willing to submit to Jordan's leadership, after all, his generation grew up watching Jordan's games, and there is no problem following his idols. Hamilton worked hard in training camp to please Jordan as much as possible, but he was still repeatedly reprimanded by the Flyers, he didn't defend well, sometimes he wasn't active, he was too thin to defend, Hamilton admitted that Jordan was the leader, but he didn't feel that they were superior-subordinate relationships.
Unfortunately, that's what Jordan thinks.
So when Hamilton jokingly asked him if he had a chance to endorse AJ, Jordan said he wasn't qualified to wear AJ.
You know, Jordan has always had a lot of respect for Pippen, and even he will be the first to thank Pippen in his future Hall of Fame speech, but Jordan has no respect for Hamilton.
In such a situation, how could Hamilton be willing to be Robin?
Look at Kobe, the Lakers have won two consecutive championships, but O'Neal did toe surgery before the start of training camp on the grounds of "I won't be sick during the holidays", which annoyed Kobe Bryant. For this reason, the sophisticated and thick-skinned fat man still told everyone at the media day that Kobe Bryant should be selected as MVP. That's it, Kobe doesn't want to be Robin anymore, he Hamilton once teamed up with Kobe to sweep high school basketball, how can he always accept Jordan's unsympathetic bullying?
Hamilton wanted to resist, but he didn't have the guts.
Then, Yu Fei descended from the sky, allowing Hamilton to see the dawn of breaking free from Jordan's hegemony.
Now, back in the locker room, Jordan's banter isn't exchanged for Hamilton's joking response.
"Oh, really?"
Hamilton replied lightly, and changed into the tracksuit of the University of Connecticut Huskies.
Just like Jordan always wears North Carolina bottoms to train and play, everyone likes to reminisce about the beauty of college days with all kinds of ceremonial items.
Hamilton didn't even say hello and left.
"There's something wrong with Rip," Grover said. ”
"Can't you see he's upset with you?" Jordan looked at his old partner playfully.
Grover smiled lightly, "I see." ”
"But it doesn't matter, he's the kind of person who only keeps his grievances in his heart." Jordan habitually put his tongue on his lips and looked like he was pouting, "You should be wary of people who have no reverence at all." ”
