And Quanzhen Dao, there is another saying about Donghua Emperor, saying that Donghua Emperor's surname is Wang, his name is Xuanfu, and his teacher is Baiyun Shangzhen, who is a native of Shandong in the Han Dynasty.

Zhao Daoyi, a Taoist priest of the Yuan Dynasty, wrote the "True Immortal Body Dao Tongjian" (written in 1294) Volume 20 also has the biography of Wang Xuanfu, saying: Shangxian surnamed Wang, named Xuanfu, Han Dynasty Donghai people. Zhao Daoyi's record clearly identified Wang Xuanfu as a native of the Han Dynasty and his alias Huayang Zhenren. However, it is not recorded that Wang Xuanfu was born and ascended to immortality, and even his place of origin is missing.

Wang Xuanfu is regarded as the patriarch of the Quanzhen Dao, but his deeds are so vague that it is inevitable that people will be suspicious. Qin Zhi'an, a contemporary, had already recognized this problem, and after Wang Xuanfu's biography, there was "Praise", trying to answer the doubts of others: "The immortal name of the emperor is so hesitous, and the price of the Tao is so high, why is it not recorded in the history of the Han Dynasty, and the family in the township and the era are so dark?" ”

It can be seen that the names of Emperor Donghua and Wang Xuanfu have long been seen in Taoist classics before the establishment of Quanzhen Dao. Emperor Donghua is the name of the gods, I don't know when it started. But by the Tang Dynasty at the latest, it had appeared in the lineage of Taoist immortals.
