Chapter 16: Visiting Nepal and Myitkyina!

After Han Long's visit to Borobudur, he flew directly from Jakarta to Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, to inspect the Buddha's resort.

Nepal is located in the middle of the South Asian subcontinent and the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, because it is on the edge of the world's highest plateau, so the whole territory of Nepal is in the sub-plateau area with many mountains and many fractures and ravines, and the climate of all parts of the country is different due to the difference in altitude, and the climate varies greatly.

In Kathmandu, Hanlong interviewed the director of the Lumbini Institute of Buddhist Culture, Jalamber, a former colleague of Professor Barbiro at Siam University, who is in his 70s.

Jalamber received Hanlong in his office, and the two of them talked over coffee on the couch.

Han Long looked at Jialanbo's emaciated and old face and said, "Elder Jialanbo! You should be Thai, right? How did you get here to be the director of the institute! ”

Jialamber smiled kindly and said, "Yes! I'm Thai! Many people think that Nepal is similar to India, and Nepali culture is Indian culture. In fact, Nepalese culture is closer to the culture of Thailand in Southeast Asia, Nepal's indigenous language is the same as Thai, the culture and customs are similar to Thailand, and the religious beliefs are exactly the same as Thailand! In fact, Nepal and its surroundings, the northeastern part of the South Asian subcontinent, Myanmar and other regions are very similar to the culture and customs of Thailand. Before the British occupied the South Asian subcontinent, Nepal and its surrounding areas, the northeastern part of the South Asian subcontinent, etc., belonged to the same economic and cultural circle as Southeast Asia, and the people of these regions were very close to each other! Therefore, I felt the same in Kathmandu as I did in Bangkok, I didn't feel like I was abroad, I just felt like I went from the hot and humid south to the cool and dry northern mountains! ”

"Director Jialamber, thank you for your introduction! You showed me a real Nepal! Can you tell me about the deeds of Buddha Shakyamuni? ”

"Young people! You're so kind! There are a lot of bad backgrounds in this world, so they don't want others to know their details and the truth about things related to them! In fact, Nepal was originally like this, and maybe thousands of years later, he will still be like this! Before the Buddha became a Buddha, he was the prince of the Nepalese Shakya, the modern Taru people, who make a living from rice cultivation and farming, and they are optimistic, upright and strong, they are the descendants of the typical Southeast Asian yellow race! About 4,200 years ago, the Aryans invaded the plains of the Ganges River valley in the northern part of the subcontinent from the northwestern part of the subcontinent. Since the Shakyas lived in the westernmost part of the Ganges River Plain, the Shakyas were the first to go to war with the Aryans. Since the Shakya and other farming peoples had to settle down to farm for a living, it was difficult for them to resist the Aryan nomads who came and went freely, rode horses and archery, and were extremely mobile! In order to avoid heavy casualties among the nation, the Shakya and other farming peoples moved to Nepal and other mountainous areas to continue to settle and farm, and at the same time, the army of the farming people could be condescending and attack the military strongholds and settlements of the Aryans! As a result, the farming peoples were able to survive in Nepal and the northeastern part of the subcontinent! After thousands of years of wars and conflicts, the Aryans reconciled and integrated with the local peoples, and the Shakyamas became the second class of Aryan Brahmanism, namely the Kshatriyas, and the Shakyamas and many agrarian peoples established their own states in Nepal and the northeastern part of the South Asian subcontinent, and maintained peace with the Aryans. ”

After a pause, he continued, "Between 700 and 600 B.C., Brahmanism developed rapidly in the South Asian subcontinent after the fusion of Brahmanism with Zoroastrianism in the Middle East and Iran! In order to resist the cultural invasion of Brahmanism and maintain the cultural treasures of their own people, the intellectual elite of the agrarian peoples of Nepal and the northeastern South Asian subcontinent developed Shamanism and Jainism on the basis of the native religion gim/jim or 'chaste', and finally Shakyamuni founded Buddhism on the basis of Shamanism and Jainism! The great teachings of Buddhism and the character of the Buddha conquered the Indian subcontinent, and even the whole world! Bandits will only bring disaster to the world, not progress! Only the open-mindedness of thought and the wide dissemination of truth can promote the progress of human society! I am very disgusted by the saying that 'the British brought India out of barbarism and into the age of civilization'! ”

Jialamber stopped to drink coffee, and Hanlong said with tears in his eyes: "Respect Mr. Jialamber!" You've said it so well! I am impressed by your knowledge and insights! I want to go to the hometown of the Buddha! Can you give me some advice? ”

Jialamber put down the coffee ice, he calmly looked at the snow and the blue sky outside the window and said, "Oh! You're not your average traveler! But I advise you to be like a traveler and enjoy the scenery, taste the food, and see the local culture! There is nothing special about the Buddha's hometown, it is just a piece of land and an ordinary village in the great rivers and mountains of Nepal! Great minds exist only in libraries and in the minds of wise men! ”

After the conversation, Han Long left the institute to visit Durbar Square.

Durbar Square has many brick and wood structures with Han and Tang Dynasty style ancient buildings. There are local religion and foreign religious shrines, as well as folk consumption style commercial streets, where people and gods live together, with the sacred nobility of heaven, and the prosperity and simplicity of the world, so that people have a foot in heaven, and a foot still remains in the world.

Since the Buddha's hometown of Lumpini is nearly 400 kilometers away from Kathmandu, after listening to the advice of Galamber, Hanlong did not want to visit Lumbini.

After visiting the tourist attractions of Kathmandu, Hanlong took an international flight to Myitkyina to visit the Buddhist temples and stupas there.

After visiting the pagoda and temple areas of Myitkyina, Han Long went to visit Sharak, a professor at the local Buddhist college.

Salak is an old scholar in his 60s dressed as a monk, and Professor Barbiro introduces Salak to Hanlong.

Shalak received Hanlong in his meditation room, and after Hanlong sat down, he handed Shalak a letter.

Shalaq took the letter, and with his eyes closed, he carefully read the letter that Barbiro had commissioned Hanlong to send to him.

Then, he put down the letter and smiled in his eyes and said to Han Long, "Oh! Professor Barbiro told me that you are a very good Chinese scholar! I am very happy that you have come to visit me! Have you visited our temples and pagodas? ”

"Thank you, old man, for your reception! I've just visited! ”

"Oh! How do you feel? ”

After Han Long thought for a moment, he calmly looked at Shalak and said, "Abbot Shalak! I feel that your temples and stupas here are a little different from those in Nepal! I just visited the Borobudur Pagoda in Central Java and I feel that your temples and stupas here have a lot of similarities with the Pineapple Stupa! Why is that? ”

Salak laughed and said, "Alas! Mr. Hanlong! Your eyes are indeed sharp! Our Buddhist architecture here is indeed different from the Buddhist architecture in Nepal and is very similar to the Borobudur Pagoda! This is because these temples and stupas were built before the birth of Buddhism! We have renovated these temples and stupas, and we have found that they are the same as the Balrobudur Pagoda in terms of materials, structure, and construction, so we suspect that the craftsmen who originally built these stupas and monasteries are the same people who built the Balrobudur Pagoda! According to our research, these stupas and temples were originally used by the local primitive religion gim/jim. After the rise of Buddhism, they gradually turned into stupas and Buddhist temples! Because in the eyes of the locals, they think that gim/jim and Buddhism are the same thing, but Buddhism is more transparent! ”

Han Long nodded slightly in shock and said, "I see! Thanks for the answer! This land is amazing! ”

"Yes! Human beings themselves are the magic of the magic! There are many creatures on Earth, why are humans like this? Human beings can eat, drink and Lazar like ordinary animals, and human beings can still perceive and understand the world, and they can also discover the truth and truth of things! Maybe the Buddha Lord is right, people can cultivate to become Buddhas, they can get rid of reincarnation, and they can attain eternal life and bliss! Rabak looked out the window at the lush landscape.

Han Long also looked out the window in a daze.
