Chapter 64: The Lightning King's Court
All the high-ranking generals of Augustus gathered at a table near the villa, and not one of them dared to speak.
At the request of the mafia princess, Ryan is allowed to sit between Vulcan and Rivia, who keeps his arms crossed, watching the scene. The various "Olympian gods" gathered in a circle, all vigilantly watching their leader. Mercury's mummified head was placed on the edge near Pluto, while Nasinia sat with her parents. Mars put one arm behind his chair, apparently the most relaxed of those present.
and Bacchus, the god of wine......
This man made Ryan curious. The priest never blinks, nor does he show any facial expressions. Augustus did not see him like everyone else, and his attention was entirely focused on Livia.
Augustus listened as his brother Neptune recounted the events of the previous night, his body shrouded in an aura of lightning. This makes it impossible to distinguish his face clearly, and the person exudes strength in many ways. Ryan couldn't shake the atmosphere of fear that permeated the table, as if everyone feared that they might be punished for a small mistake.
Even Ryan wasn't kidding. He didn't know the limits of Augustus' impregnability, only that most forces didn't work for him. As far as he knew, the Lightning Emperor could be a Caucasian who interfered with other abilities like Sykes; Unlike Vulcan, Augustus believed that the Messenger would be killed by a slight provocation.
As soon as the story ends, the mob Zeus clasps his hands together. Apparently, Neptune described the attack as an irresponsible prank rather than a well-prepared rescue mission, but his brother didn't seem to care. "You called me here for such a trivial matter?"
βDy
AMIS will retaliate," Neptune noted. "It's public."
"How dare they take our son," cried Venus, and her wise husband immediately put his hand on her arm and dissuaded her from speaking; Everything was in vain. "It's just revengeβ"
"His parents are the only reason Felix's head isn't in the bag right now." The cold affirmation in Augustus' tone made the entire Atom Cat family flinch. Narcisnia, in particular, looked at her feet to avoid facing the mob Zeus. "It's one thing to be negligent, but I can't stand rats."
"He's your godson, Janus," Mars said with the familiarity of a trusty lieutenant. He alone did not seem to be afraid of Augustus, except for the close relatives of the gang boss; So much so that his real name was used.
"He's a traitor and broke my daughter's heart," replied the Lightning Emperor of Italy, with a stone mask on her face. "Come to think of it, I used to expect to call him son-in-law one day......"
"Give us some time," Mars said without flinching. "We'll reason with him."
Augustus replied, "I will be kind to Felix, because our respective families are close." "But I don't want to see him again, and if he takes up arms against us, the consequences will be severe."
There was a tense silence at the table, and the mob Zeus turned his head to Ryan and Vulcan. Although she was outwardly strong, the messenger felt the genius clench his fists under the table. The courier took her hand and helped her relax.
"You," Augustus said to Ryan, suddenly noticing the presence of a genome. "Who are you?"
"Save quickly, sir," said the courier. "I'm immortal, but don't tell anyone."
"There is only one thing equal between God and man, and that is death." The rabble Zeus scrutinized Ryan. "You're not as scared of me as you should be."
Ryan waited for a moment, just in case it was a figure of speech, and then realized that Lightning Ass wanted an answer. When the Courier called Augustus that in his head, he really didn't sound that intimidating. "Well, sir, with all due respect," said Genome, "I have seen people who are much worse than you. β
Augustus looked at him without saying a word, and the mere look at this thunder element began to hurt. The silence becomes more and more oppressive until Lightning Bart turns his fatal attention to Vulcan, Ryan's boss. "What is his strength?"
"Alternate reality jumps." Vulcan said.
"Lies".
Augustus did not raise his voice when he said this, but the electric tension in the air increased tenfold. All eyes turned to Vulcan, and Pluto stared sharply at Ryan.
"What is his strength?" Augustus repeated, the red aura around him getting stronger and stronger.
"I don't know," Vulcan admitted. "I don't understand it yet."
Augustus let the silence begin until Jasmine had to look away so that her eyes would not be harmed by the light. The mere wordless threat of violence frightened the proud genius. "This wise woman admits her own ignorance, Vulcan," said Lightning Barth, trying to make her voice sound a little more esoteric, and then asked the other Kapos, "Who is he?"
"Ryan Romano, whose real name is Cesare Sabino," Mercury said through the mummified skull. "Freddy Sabino's son, alias Bloodflow. A blood-controlled madman who was killed at a carnival four years ago"
Ryan struggled to keep a look of disgust on his face, cursing every time Bloodstream introduced him to strangers by that name. He believed in that delusion so much that he convinced everyone that it was true.
But oddly enough, when Mercury mentions Carnival, he does notice that Livia's face has softened. She glanced at Ryan, who the courier thought was a sympathetic look. At the same time, Augustus' aura lit up for a second before returning to normal.
"Bleeding ......," Mars said aloud, remembering something. Yes, I remember him. The madman who hijacked the corpse killed a few of us that day. β
Justina's eyes widened, as if he had had an epiphany moment. "Wait, she's your sister?"
"I don't want to talk about that," Ryan replied coldly.
"I always thought you wanted to ......," Jasmine held her breath. It doesn't matter".
Augustus has always focused his attention on Ryan. "What is your strength?"
"I told you, sir," replied the courier. "I am immortal."
"Quicksave is a violet that can affect other universes, usually to avoid death," Livia represents Rya
Say. "His abilities will help me develop my abilities."
The emperor put his fingers together. "Can you vouch for him, my daughter?"
"Yes."
Lightning Ass nodded to herself, then turned to her sister. "I've noticed him," Pluto said, smoking a cigarette. "So far, he's provided a valuable service, but if he crosses the line, I'm going to beat him up."
Augustus gave the messenger one last quick glance, then dropped the topic and turned to Livia. "My daughter, do you agree with this attack?"
"Yes, I did." Livia replied calmly.
"Then why are we talking about this?"
"Janus," Neptune cleared his throat. "It's serious."
"Minerva is my heir, speaking in my voice." Lightning Bart replied contemptuously. "Your duty is to advise her and guide her, not to question her orders."
Neptune clasped his hands together, visibly unhappy about the turn of events. "And then, are we ready for war?" Even if we win, there will be big casualties. β
"There will be no war," Livia said with absolute confidence. "Yes, the Manada will take revenge openly, but Hector will keep his sons in check before things get worse. He is as afraid of long-term conflict as you are, uncle. That's why he hired the ogre Adam to attack us while maintaining plausible denial. β
"Do you have proof?" Mercury spoke. "I couldn't find any evidence, and from what Vulcan told us, Dimenis tried to wipe out the 'psychos' after they kicked them all out of Rusttown."
"Yes, I'm sure," Livia said. "I think either Adam betrayed his company boss for his own purposes, or Hector decided to erase the evidence"
"What are we going to do with the Superpowers, brother?" Pluto asked, lighting a cigarette.
"Destroy them," Augustus announced. "I want them all to die, and not one of them to be left."
"Is it worth it?" Venus asked. "They ran away."
"You keep your enemies alive, and they will come back to torment you," Augustus replied, his voice creepy. "I'm not going to take that risk. No one, no problem. Don't care about the resources needed, don't care how long it takes, don't care if it's disproportionate. Kill them all. β
And just like that, Lightning Ass signed the death warrant for the entire Superpower Gang. Pluto exchanged glances with her niece and Vulcan, and Ryan could tell that they had decided to work together to make this judgment a reality.
"What's next?" Augustus asked suddenly.
"My retirement," Mercury said through his mummified head.
"It's a pity," the lightning elemental said, a hint of emotion breaking through his composure. "Your departure is a shame on us all."
"Well, it's time for me to pass the torch," Mercury replied. "I have the perfect person to take over my department."
"Jamie Carter," Mars guessed, and Ryan glanced at him immediately. βZa
batoγ Good soldier. β
Mercury proudly says, "Ever since we introduced Jamie to our organization, he has been loyal and capable." The men respected him, he was trustworthy, and he achieved results. β
Most of the Kapos at the table expressed their consent, including Vulcan, although with one exception. "I am against his ascension." Bacchus opened his mouth for the first time, his soothing voice cutting through the cacophony of discussion. "What he thinks of Bliss worries me, and my department is dependent on Mercury for supplies."
"At first, I was also against drug trafficking," Mercury said with a shrug. "But I know where I am, and so does the kid."
"Zambato's loyalty to our organization will always trump his personal values," Livia expressed her sentiment. 'We've shaped him in so many ways and he'll never forget that. I support his candidacy. β
Augustus listened without saying a word, and then made a decision. "Very well, my old friend," he said to the dry cadaver. "Zambato's place you as the new Mercury will be removed. My home is always open to you. β
"Zambato's power doesn't fit the topic," Pluto pondered aloud with a laugh. "Maybe he should change his name?" Is Hercules possible?"
"That would annoy Dinamus," Venus said with a smirk as the two women snickered at each other.
"No, keep the name," Augustus quickly decided. "But he's going to change his outfit. Vulcan. β
"Really?" Jasmine hurriedly spoke.
"You're going to build Zambato gear up for his new god station." Lightning Bart commanded. "Cost is not an issue."
"I do." She nodded hurriedly, wanting to make this invincible man forget the past.
"What else?" Augustus asked, and then continued on his way.
"Our Bliss is about to make a breakthrough," Bacchus said aloud, and Nacinia moved in her seat. "I can feel it. Pure enough to have a conversation with God. β
"Your obsession with refining this product worries me," Venus said, glancing at Nassinia. "You've overworked my daughter for a daydream."
"Good, Mom." Nasinia replied with a smile. "We're doing something great."
"Indeed," said the priest with a sharp nod. Ryan realizes that he only gets involved when he is influencing things like Bliss and ignores everything else. "This catastrophe will soon be over. However, I was worried about theft. Geist has recently sensed a stranger testing our defenses. β
"Strangers?" Pluto asked, frowning. "Meta? Kinetics?"
"He can't tell." Bacchus looked at Vulcan. "I would appreciate it if you could take the time to improve the defensive boundaries of our vault."
Jasmine looked depressed. "The defenses I've set up are perfect."
"Unfortunately, I'm not quite sure," Livia said. "The recent attack on Ischia is becoming more and more likely."
βDy
Amis, the superpowers, they can attack the island however they want. Vulcan snickered. They can't get in. β
"I still wish we could review together," Livia said with a calm smile. The princess's voice sounded like a plea, but Jasmine knew it wasn't at all. The genius took a deep breath in his heart and said nothing.
"Do you need our help, Minerva?" Mars spoke, and his wife stood stiffly beside him. "If something endangers the ...... of Nassinia"
"I don't think you need to be there, at least at this stage," said the mafia princess, with a smile on her lips. "We can do it ourselves."
Augustus didn't seem interested in the topic, so the discussion turned to a boring activity report.
Listening, Ryan learned more about which Capo was in charge of which department. Bacchus, the god of wine, controls the drug department, which involves Narsinia in its production; Vulcan was in charge of the arms trade, and Mercury was in charge of gambling, casinos, and money laundering; Mars and Venus manage the prostitution and pornography divisions of the organization; Finally, Pluto is in charge of assassinations, assassinations, and "alternative protection services," while Neptune is in charge of most of the organization's legal front business.
Augustus did not say much throughout the conversation, leaving his daughter to speak in his place. Livia discusses the production of Bliss, the organization's income, where to invest, and more. All in all, the mob Zeus seems to be completely uninterested in the logistics of his empire. He only cares about the authority of the family and those who dare to challenge it.
He was a warlord, not a king.
"I think we're done," Neptune said after completing his own report.
"We". Augustus stood up after hearing this. It's clear that he's not the kind of person who wastes his time on pleasantries. "Livia will take care of the rest. Don't bother me anymore. β
The Lightning Emperor quickly and silently disappeared into the villa, and the crimson aura disappeared with him. Pluto and Neptune exchanged glances with Rivia in silence, as if exchanging a silent message.
Ryan couldn't explain why, but he had a gut feeling that something was working.
"Nassinia, we're going home," Venus said to her daughter as she and her husband left the table. Mercury's mummified head has lost all life, and the necromancer behind the line has finished summoning. "We're stopping by to pick up your sister."
"I thought she was at Zambato's house?" Mars asked, a little surprised.
"No, she lives with her boyfriend and wants to introduce him to us." Venus shook her head. "If you want me to say, she's going too fast."
"I hope he's capable," Mars said, in a tone like a racist father would say, "I want he's white." β
"Goodbye!" Nasinia waved to Ryan and Livia. The family politely saluted the others present before walking through the park and leaving.
"I'm leaving, too." Bacchus turned to Livia and said. "Minerva, would you like to try the refined strain?"
"I suspect so," replied the mafia princess with a distant gaze. "I don't see what would happen in another world. The risk is too great. β
"Please think about it," the pastor argued. "Your magic blue may be the key to divine revelation"
Augustus's daughter sent him away without answering, and the priest bowed formally. "Vulcan, help," he nodded to the two of them before leaving, "We'll see you on Ischia." β
Poseidon looked at Vulcan and Ryan in frustration, then raised his hands in surrender and walked towards the villa. Pluto walked over to her approach to the pool and continued her book. "Save it," she said, picking up the novel.
"Yes, Cruella?"
"My niece's kindness is the only reason you're alive," Pluto replied as he flipped through the book. "Don't forget that."
Such nice, friendly people.
"You guys look lovely together," Livia said to Rya with a warm smile as everyone left the party
and Ja Woman I
E said. "It's another surprise."
When almost everyone left the party, Jasmine realized that she hadn't let go of Ryan's hand and quickly cut off contact. "I don't need help," she told him, looking away. "It's good, but I don't need help."
"Of course, I will adopt a policy of non-interference."
The genius laughed. "Your joke is not good, Ryan...... But you're good, I admit it. β
"Oh my God, thank you." The courier blinked, then turned to Livia. "Do you know the outcome of this meeting?"
"Yes, with one exception," she said coldly. When my father turns to look at you. Everything after that was completely unplanned. β
So she couldn't read Time Traveler at all. Good. Ryan didn't know how to deal with someone who could predict his actions before he even thought about it.
Still, he had some sympathy for the girl. Her situation is not much different from his, living in a rehearsed reality while craving new thrills. She most likely convinced her father not to kill him on the spot.
"I'd appreciate it if you could announce his promotion to Zambato." Livia said seriously. "I'm sure he wouldn't be so embarrassed if it was a friend and not a direct boss."
"Of course, that way we have more drinks to drink when we celebrate." Ryan replied, though he couldn't contain his curiosity. "What do you mean you made him?"
"We have a war fund for the elixir," Livia explained. "Originals that we collect before we use them, or counterfeits that we 'requisition' from competitors. When the infantrymen without strength prove themselves worthy of promotion through merit and loyalty, they receive a potion. Jamie is one of them. β
"What about your father?" Can I call him Daddy Lightning?"
"Not in his presence," Livia chuckled softly, and Jasmine rolled her eyes. Rome had several emperors in common, one was Augustus the Elder, and the other was the little Caesar who had been groomed to take his place. Over time, he gave me more leeway. I apologize for his attitude towards both of you. My father grew up in a more violent time. β
"At least he can get things done," Vulcan replied, recovering to the point where he could snicker. "It's not like a suit on the other side of town."
"I still don't understand why you're speaking on my behalf," Ryan admitted.
"You can say I'm pretty good at people, but I can tell you you're a good friend if I respect you," Livia said, a hint of sadness breaking her composure. "I can see that you are in deep pain."
Ryan's mood went bad. "Do you want it?" He asked Livia, feeling that the current situation was a little too familiar to him. "To inherit your father's mantle?"
The mafia princess has a very good poker face, but the messenger has mastered the art of deciphering micro-expressions in his endless wanderings. She is kind, but can't completely hide the uneasiness in her heart.
"Be careful, Ryan." Livia reluctantly smiled at him. "There's a dragon here."
