Chapter 14: Kingdom Ambition

It was impossible to stop, and the heart of Prussia, as everyone knows, Bismarck is about to complete the first step of his life's great achievement.

As long as the main Danish force on the island of Ars is defeated, the Danes will lose the last bargaining chip in the war.

June 29, fjords on the island of Ars.

The island of Als is located in the eastern part of Jutland and is connected by the Als Fjord, an extension of the Baltic Sea.

The fjord between the island of Ars and Jutland is calm and sunny gives you an open view of the sea. In favorable natural conditions, the Prussian army began to march towards the island of Ars and tried to cross the fjord.

Prussian sappers erected pontoon bridges over the sea, and the people and weapons on the ferries of the bay began to be put on board.

With the roar of steam, the ferries headed for the island of Als, where the narrow Als Fjord was densely packed with ships.

The Danish observers looked through their binoculars to see the sea and the Prussians were approaching the coast at great speed, and when they saw this, they immediately reported it to their commander.

The Danish army, which hastily retreated to the island of Ars, was demoralized and poorly organized by successive defeats, and did not have time to build fortifications on the island for a short time.

The Danish troops on the island could only interfere with the Prussian landing force with the help of artillery, and the sporadic artillery fire could not stop the Prussians' determination.

Under the cover of gunboats, the Prussian army of several thousand people easily landed on the shores of Ars. The two sides began to fiercely fight over the coast.

Denmark was now able to hold back the Prussians with rudimentary fortifications, but the Prussian artillery was being delivered in a steady stream of ships and pontoons from the rear.

After artillery support was in place, the landing Prussians attacked, and the Danes soon fell into disarray, and the makeshift fortifications were destroyed by Prussian artillery fire in just one turn.

As the Prussian infantry stormed the Danish positions, the disheartened Danish army raised the white flag after a little resistance.

The island of Ars was the last major battle between the coalition and Denmark, and with the surrender of the defenders of the island of Ars, the Second Schleswig War came to an end.

A few days later, on July 3rd. The Battle of Lundby broke out, the coalition forces were victorious, and Denmark lost all resistance capabilities.

The Danish government had to sit down at the negotiating table and negotiate with the German countries, and as the losing party in the war, the Danish government announced that it would renounce resistance, and the Prussia and Austria also stopped, and all hostilities between the two sides ceased, and the war ended.

On August 10, 1864, King Christian IX of Denmark signed a preliminary peace treaty, relinquishing his rights in the two principalities in favor of the Austrian Empire and the King of Prussia.

In the Treaty of Vienna on 30 October, Denmark ceded all these territories to Austria and Prussia.

Second Schleswig War.

Denmark fell back 250 kilometres, lost 40 percent of its land and nearly 40 percent of its population, and its total population fell from 2.6 million to 1.6 million, including 200,000 Danes in the Schleswig region.

Prussia took control of the Duchy of Schleswig through this war, and troops began to enter the Schleswig region, acquiring the important port city of Kiel, which was an important passage in Germany to bypass the Danish Channel, greatly enhancing Prussia's ability to go to sea.

The Austrian Empire also won the Duchy of Holstein in this war, which ended with the victory of Austria and the Second Schleswig War.
