CHAPTER XXVII
As the end of the year approached, the advance troops of the East African colonies had drawn up a relatively intuitive map of the interior of East Africa.
Delivered by a merchant fleet, a copy of this map is now on Ernst's desk,
The entire map is about one meter long and seventy centimeters wide, and the contents are marked with the general mountains, rivers and rivers.
As far east, from the port of Dar es Salaam, there is a road that leads directly to the first town. The second and third towns are two named points on the map through which the Kleine Rhine passes.
The depictions are clear, including grassland woodlands and farmland, and the dotted line is the border of the Sultanate of Zanzibar, which stretches from north to south to the Portuguese colony, which basically monopolizes the coastline of East Africa.
The rivers in the east are marked in detail on the map, and it is obvious that the water network is relatively dense, and there are reasons why it is easier to explore, after all, the Sultanate of Zanzibar is active in the vicinity all year round, and some geographical elements can be found by local guides.
There is a triangle on the north side of the map to indicate that there is a mountain range, which is supposed to be the Kilimanjaro Mountains, and to the west of the mountain range is Lake Victoria, which is large and is also used on the map to indicate the shadow cover of the water body.
As the largest lake in Africa, Lake Victoria was first discovered and named by British explorers to explore the source of the Nile.
The discovery was made exactly a year after Ernst awakened to the memories of his past life, and there were two large lakes to the west of Lake Victoria, Lake Albert and Lake Edward.
Of course, Lake Edward is not called Lake Edward at present, and the original history was not named Lake Edward until 1889 when the Englishman Stanley named Lake Edward.
The British crown took over the naming rights of the lakes in the lower reaches of Lake George, but Ernst's arrival in this era and the fact that East Africa was his own domain made it impossible to recognize these British names, even if they had already been named by the British.
In fact, the names of the lakes discovered by the British have not yet been determined, and to be precise, they have not been updated on new maps of Europe, and the East African colonial mapping team arrived only a few months after the British explorers.
Therefore, with a stroke of Ernst's pen, Lake Victoria was named the Great Lake, which is very much in line with the characteristics of Lake Victoria, after all, the area around Lake Victoria in the previous life was called the Great Lakes area.
Lake Albert was changed by Ernst to Lake Frederiks, in memory of his grandfather.
Lake Edward was renamed Lake Constantine, which goes without saying, and Lake George downstream was renamed Lake Hahinden.
Lake Frederik (Lake Albert) and Lake Constantine (Lake Edward) are both part of the Great Rift Valley, and the Great Lakes are located in between the two and are lakes formed by water in a basin.
With an area of 69,400 square kilometers, the Great Lake (Lake Victoria) is the largest freshwater lake in Africa and the second largest in the world. The basin covers an area of more than 200,000 square kilometers, commonly known as the Great Lakes region, and in the past life, more than 30 million people lived around the entire Taihu Lake, making it one of the most densely populated areas in the whole of Africa.
In contrast, Qinghai Lake, the largest saltwater lake in China, was only 4,625 square kilometers in the previous era, and Poyang Lake, the largest freshwater lake, had a maximum area of just over 3,000 square kilometers during the flood season. The freshwater lakes that can compete with Lake Tai (Lake Victoria) are the Great Lakes of North America and Lake Baikal in the hands of Russia, as well as Lake Tanganyga and Lake Malawi, also in the East African highlands.
Therefore, the Great Lake (Lake Victoria), Ernst must be taken down, not only rich in fishery resources, but also higher precipitation than the surrounding areas, flat land, good conditions for agricultural development.
Further west is Lake Kivu...... Well, it's better to call it Lake Kivu, after all, it was the famous "murderous" lake in the previous life that was unlucky.
On the west side of the map is Lake Tanganyika, which Ernst named Lake Solon. The importance of Lake Tanganyika to Tanzania is self-evident, and in the past Tanzania was the merger of Tanganyika on the mainland and Zanzibar on the east.
Nia actually has no special meaning in Africa, mainly English word suffix, so many countries in Africa have this suffix, such as Kenya, Nigeria, ......, Tanzania is the combined name of Tanganyika and Zanzibar.
Lake Tanganyika is the largest lake in the Great Rift Valley and the second deepest lake in the world after Lake Baikal.
Tanganyika Lake is tortuous and meandering, the terrain on both sides of the bank is relatively steep, there is a narrow coastal plain distribution, compared with the open land around Lake Victoria, the economic value is not so high, the geographical location is not bad, about 679 kilometers long from north to south, in the previous life it was the traffic artery of the landlocked countries of Central Africa, and the water transport was more prominent.
To the south is Lake Ruqua, an inland saltwater lake but rich in fishery resources, with many salt ponds at the southwestern end.
The southernmost part is a large lake, and in order to make it easier to remember, Ernst changed the name to Lake Malawi.
In addition to this, there are Serenge Lake near Dodoma, Lake Eyasi, Lake Manyara, and Lake Barangida in the north......
It can be seen that the water resources on the East African plateau are abundant, and the area of these large lakes alone is more than 100,000 square kilometers, which is larger than the area of many countries.
In the mountain range, in addition to Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa, there is also the Mitumba Mountains in the eastern part of the Congo Basin.
To the southwest, between Lake Tanganyika and Lake Malawi is the Katanga Plateau, and to the south is the coastal plain of Mozambique.
Ernst decided to eat Lake Victoria, the middle ground between Lake Tanganyika and Lake Malawi in one bite.
Three important strongholds along the lake were established along the shores of three large lakes: Mwanza in the southern bay of Lake Victoria, Kigoma on the eastern shore of Lake Tanganyika, and Karonga in the northwestern corner of Lake Malawi.
Inland strongholds are directly selected in Dodoma, Taborah, and Mbeya, near Lake Ruqua.
As the red pen water is outlined on the map, several red circles appear on the map, so that most of the whole of Tanzania is within the range of these circles.
……
"Tom, make a copy of this and send it to the East African colonies!" Ernst carried out this ambitious plan in the East African colonies.
"Also, the weapons produced by our arsenal can also be sent to East Africa, and a musket unit of 600 Chinese immigrants will be formed first."
Ernst continued: "The six hundred men were divided into six groups, led by the colony high-ranking officials, to clean up and maintain the management of the six strongholds of the new plan, and the subsequent migrants should intensify their migration to these six strongholds, and in the future, with these six strongholds plus the three towns of the coastal colonies as the radiation center, we will be able to pocket the whole Tanganyika region." ”
Ernst said in high spirits: "Also, the first musketeers will use more of the first group of immigrants, with five hundred men to each stronghold, and the weapons and ammunition will be managed by our own men (Germans). ”
Ernst thought about what else was missing.
"Oh, by the way, you should choose a few people from the company, preferably Berlin natives with families, to take over the management of part of the colony, you can't let those mercenaries do everything, they are in charge of security is the first priority. Okay, that's all there is to order, you can do it! ”
"Yes, young master." Tom replied respectfully with the papers, turned to leave the office, and closed the door with his hand.
