Chapter Forty-Five: Ron Roda
Ronroda, a small stronghold in the current East African colony, is the Portuguese colony of Mozambique about 60 kilometers to the south, and 30 kilometers to the east is the sphere of influence of the Sultanate of Zanzibar.
September 13, 1866.
The geographical survey team of the East African colonies surveyed the area and determined that it was suitable for human habitation.
On October 7, the first migrants arrived in Rhône Roda, which so far has a population of more than 600 people.
Röhnroda is the capital of the Lower Primera planned by ERNST, with an area of nearly 80,000 square kilometres.
Of the 80,000 square kilometers of land, there are only about 600 Chinese immigrants and a small number of Germans in Ron Roda.
Ronroda is located almost 400 kilometers from First Town, separated by the Middle Coastal District, and from the farthest administrative district of First Town, the Soren Lake District, whose capital Kigoma is about 1,000 kilometers away.
Therefore, even if the entire East African colonies are added to the indigenous people, they are still vast and sparsely populated, and there is still a long way to go in the development of the East African colonies.
As the capital of the Lower Marina, Ron Roda is currently only the name of the capital, and its size is only equivalent to a village in the Upper Maritime District.
The more remote East Malawi Lake District is even more difficult to describe, with exploration work only now being completed and the settlers assigned by First Town still on their way to Songaia.
The situation in the middle coastal area is relatively better, because it is close to the upper coastal area, and at present, more than 1,000 immigrants have arrived.
The supreme administrator of Ron Roda was a German, named Thomas, and was a member of the mercenary group of the former East African colonies.
His deputy is Li Wenhua, a student who graduated from the Black Heart Root Military Academy, and the Germans in the East African colonies have basically joined the army, and the Chinese sheriffs in the second echelon are also selected from the students who graduated from the Black Heart Root Military Academy.
So it can be said that at present the entire East African colony is a military government, and all the immigrants act according to the army-style plans and instructions, and produce and live.
Fortunately, the colonies were governed by collectivization, and the immigrants were more honest and obedient, unlike the people in Europe, who had a sense of resistance.
If it is really like other countries, these immigrants are given the right to live freely, then these colonial officials who are military backgrounds must be blinded, after all, they are not the kind of professional bureaucrats with administrative experience.
Collectivization, on the other hand, is the same as they did in the army, where the orders of the commander can be fulfilled step by step, and the East African colonies can only be better developed in accordance with Ernst's instructions before they are fully developed.
As a student who graduated from the Heixingen Military Academy, Li Wenhua did not say anything about Ernst's loyalty, compared with the days in the Qing Dynasty, studying at the Heixingen Military Academy reshaped the three views of students like Li Wenhua.
In the brainwashing and cramming education, the cadets of the Heshingen Military Academy subconsciously understood that it was Ernst who pulled them out of their misery, and the only thing that could repay the principal was to work hard.
Li Wenhua also came to the East African colonies with this in mind, and was selected as the second-in-command of the Lower Coastal District on the issue of developing land in the new region at the Colonial Conference.
At present, the East African colonies are largely run by two groups: Germans and students of the Heshingen Military Academy.
Among them, the students of the Heshingen Military Academy played the role of a bridge and were an important part of the promulgation of colonial policy to immigrants.
They are responsible for propagating policies, educating the people, managing military affairs, and other important work.
All official documents in the colonies had to be in German, so those colonial policies had to be translated by them to the immigrants.
At the same time, the Germanization of the East African colonies necessitated the re-education of these immigrants, but for these perennial illiterate old peasants who had not read a school, it was very difficult to learn.
Therefore, the colony could only give them a simple German education, first learning 800 important German words, and learning two or three a day.
In order for immigrants to learn German thoroughly, they have to start with the children, starting with the next generation, when the East African colonies will move compulsory education into the colonies.
And all this requires preparation time, and Ernst is training a group of future colonial teachers at the Heshingen Military Academy, and when they are finished, they will begin the centennial project of educating in the colony.
This time, the students were mainly composed of orphans from the German region, who studied in the classroom with the Chinese students, and in the future they would go to the East African colonies with these Chinese students to establish their own schools in the East African colonies.
……
Ron Roda is strategically located, so there are three indigenous tribes just a few miles to the west.
These indigenous tribes are still relatively large, so they need to be cleaned up by the colonial security forces, and this time there are 200 security forces sent to Ron Roda.
After the guns and ammunition were distributed, Thomas and Li Wenhua began to lead the group to set off, and the first tribe to be cleared by the security forces of the Ron Roda colony was named Chigugu.
With only a few hundred men and horses in force, the natives were scattered with a single charge, and after burning down the thatched and twig tribal houses, the colonial security forces set off for their next destination.
The second and third indigenous tribes, located to the north of the Chigugu tribe, are the most populous of the Muvina tribe and the Lindi tribe is the most dangerous.
The method of solving the Muvina tribe is similar to that of Qigugu, that is, it takes some more time, while the Lindy tribe is really difficult to fight.
The cavalry could not play a role, and could only use more ammunition to consume the enemy, but fortunately, the gates and fences of the Lindy tribe were wooden.
Colonial vigilante rockets dipped in vegetable grease and set fire to the Lindy tribe's walls, and finally, in the scorched earth, the vigilante soldiers charged and crushed the last of the indigenous tribes near Rohnroda.
The remnants of the three indigenous tribes had to flee westward, and there was a safer area near Rohnroda.
After clearing the wildlife near the colony of Ron Roda, the Colony Security Forces met with the immigrants and began the guard work on Ron Roda.
The initial establishment of Ronroda was a small civil village, which was relatively close to the sphere of influence of the Portuguese and Arabs, so it was built with a defensive function.
Watchtowers, ditches, fences and drawbridges with a certain amount of defense all give immigrants a sense of steadiness and security.
Ron Roda is also located in the coastal plains of Africa, so rice is also grown here, but tobacco is the choice of cash crops.
Tobacco cultivation can provide raw materials for the Hexingen Tobacco Company, which in the past mainly imported from merchants in England, Portugal and the Netherlands, and then processed and sold.
Therefore, the cost is still relatively high, and East Africa is more suitable for tobacco growth, and the land area is also large, as long as it is developed enough to supply the needs of the entire Heixingen Tobacco Company.
Ron Roda is the first step in experimental tobacco planting, and if it is successful, it will be extended to the entire Lower Coastal District in the future.
The Middle Coastal District, like the Upper Coastal District, is still mainly planted with sisal, because the sales volume of sisal is really good, and the market needs more.
There are many competitors in tobacco cultivation, especially in North and South America, which are important producers of tobacco cultivation, and most of the tobacco in the East African colonies is still used by the Heixingen Tobacco Company, the main purpose is to reduce costs while also taking into account the development of the colonies.
Therefore, the colonies did not intend to blindly expand some crops that were theoretically suitable for East Africa, and until there was a stable market, they would still grow them on a small scale, such as coffee and rubber.
