Chapter 372: Opportunities in the Northwest
The population of East Africa mainly flows to the three central provinces, and the secondary direction is the northern region, and the enemies in the south and East Africa have to line up, and the north does not have this concern, so the order in the north is orderly.
At present, the construction of the western section of the Northern Railway has begun, which has further accelerated the flow of population and to the northwest, mainly in the Great Lakes region and the northern industrial belt.
"The western section of the Northern Railway is less difficult than the Hessian Railway, but the resources along the line are relatively scarce, and the rate of return is destined to be low, but if it is connected to the royal territory of Sigmaringen, the future prospects are still good."
"At present, 30 percent of the western section of the Northern Railway has been completed, and it is expected that the whole line will be completed later, and it can be opened for operation before 1887, when the time comes, from Mombasa City in the east, to Kabo City and Bangui City in the west, a northern artery will be formally formed, and it will have an important impact on the economy, transportation, and national defense of the entire northern region."
The Northern Railway has two terminus, one is Bangui City, the capital of Oriental Azander Province and an important river port on the Ubangi River.
Bangui Port is an important tributary of the Congo River, from which you can go directly to Kinshasa, and the Ubangi River is navigable for more than 600 kilometers throughout the year, and if it is in the rainy season, it can directly reach more than 1,400 kilometers.
Every year from April to June, the rainy season causes the river to swell, and the Ubangi River will flow backwards, which is similar to the fact that the rainy season river in the Amazon rainforest directly turns into an "ocean".
After all, the Congo rainforest is the second largest tropical rainforest in the world after the Amazon rainforest, but the Congo rainforest is mainly located in the Congo Basin, which makes it very different from the Amazon rainforest.
This also makes the precipitation of the Congolese rainforest an order of magnitude worse than that of the Amazon rainforest, which is directly five times that of the Congolese rainforest, which is why the Congolese rainforest has so many more people than the Amazon rainforest in previous lives.
The Amazon rainforest has almost no population distribution, and the two Congolese countries, with a population of more than 100 million, are actually more appropriate to compare the Congolese rainforest to northeastern India.
The Ganges River in northeastern India, the Brahmaputra River in the Far Eastern Empire, and the Meghna River in Bangladesh share an estuary, so they are sometimes considered a river that flows directly beyond the Congo River, although this division has not become mainstream.
However, just that small part of Bangladesh has a population of 100 million, and the world's rain pole is also in the northeastern region of South Asia, so the water volume of the Congo River basin is really not comparable to that of the northeastern region of South Asia, which has to mention the strong effect of the Himalayas and the South Asian monsoon.
After all, the Congo River basin has more than 3 million square kilometers, and the whole of South Asia is almost the same area, with more than 1,500 millimeters of precipitation in the Congo River basin, more than 2,000 millimeters in the northeast of South Asia, and 3,000 millimeters in the northeast of Bangladesh.
But the good thing is that the Congo River basin barely receives enough rainfall to human habitation standards, and is not as difficult to develop as the Amazon rainforest.
This is also an important reason why Bangui City has a lot of prospects for development in the future, the development difficulty is not as great as imagined, and the transportation conditions are also good, which can not only connect to the northwest of Angola through shipping, connect to the Atlantic Ocean, but also undertake the land transportation between East Africa and West Africa in the future.
This is important because the northeastern part of East Africa is bordered only by two major land states, the Abyssinian Empire and Egypt, and even a bunch of colonial economies are almost negligible.
West Africa is almost the same area as East Africa, and it is comparable in terms of resources, especially in iron ore, bauxite, oil and gas resources, etc.
These three resources are relatively lacking in East Africa, and they can form a complementary relationship with the East African economy, so it is particularly important to connect Bangui City in East and West Africa.
In addition, the most important thing about Bangui is its military attributes, and only by mastering the upper reaches of the Ubangi River can East Africa ensure that the lower reaches of the Congo River will not be threatened in the future, which is why both sides of the Ubangi River are under the control of East Africa.
As for the second terminus of the Northern Railway, the city of Kabo, it is entirely the investment of the Sigmaringen Crown Domain, and when completed, it will accelerate the development of the Sigmaringen Crown Domain.
"Moreover, the railway is connected to the Hesse railway in the city of Kisan (Kisangani) to form the connection of the central railway and the northern railway, and the resources of the inland industrial provinces such as Matabele province can be directly transferred to the northern region through the city of Kisang, and the grain is transferred to the northwest region through the Great Lakes region, and the resources of the northwest and West African regions of East Africa are then spread to the northern industrial belt and the three central provinces through the city of Kisang, and the domestic transportation framework of the central and northern regions is basically formed."
The central part of East Africa, namely the provinces of Swabia, Hohenzollern, Matabele, and the northern provinces of East Azande, Novobavaria, and the Nile provinces, is separated by the Congo Basin.
With the Hessian Railway (Central Railway) and the Northern Railway, a railway pattern in the central and northern regions can be formed.
The only thing that is not connected is the Somali region, as well as the northern part of Angola, the economy of Somalia and East Africa mainly relies on roads and sea transportation, and relying on the Juba River, the Shabelle River, the population and economy are long and narrow, and it is easy to realize the combined transportation of sea and river, so the railway is not very urgent for the Somali region.
In the northern part of Angola, it is in the hands of the Portuguese, so the terminus of the western section of the Central Provincial Railway has always been in the blueprint of the Ministry of Railways.
"According to the current progress of the construction of the Northern Railway, we can also take advantage of the situation to carry out industrial planning for the three northwestern provinces and the royal territory of Sigmaringen along the railway, mainly by the three provinces of the northern industrial belt and the two provinces of the Great Lakes region, and provide counterpart support to the three northwestern provinces."
"The first is to improve the population of the three northwestern provinces, build a number of cultivated land and villages along the railway line to realize the development of land in the three northwest provinces, and secondly, because of the construction of the railway, it is also necessary to replan the original traffic pattern within the three northwest provinces, and reconstruct the transportation layout of the three northwest provinces through highways."
After the railway passes, the original distribution of the three northwestern provinces according to the topography and highways of the three northwestern provinces of the settlement of the strongholds, the city is bound to re-plan, the most important thing is to open up the connection between them and the northern railway, so that the three northwestern provinces can be effectively used and developed.
"The plan of the Immigration Department is to import at least 300,000 people into the three northwestern provinces within three years of the railway's operation, of which 20% will be centrally dispatched from the relatively densely populated northern industrial belt and the Great Lakes region, plus the development of the royal domain of Sigmaringen, and the population of the three northwestern provinces will reach one million by the end of this century, that is, around 1890."
The development history of the three northwestern provinces is not short, and the three central provinces were incorporated into the territory of East Africa at the same time, but their development mainly relied on military and trade with the indigenous countries and tribes of West Africa.
However, since East Africa supported the construction of the Sigmaringen Crown Domain, trade between East and West Africa has been largely cut off, and the re-establishment of trade routes will have to wait at least until the Sigmaringen Crown Domain has been completely stabilized.
According to the East African government's calculations, this could take up to several years, as Sigmaringen cannot afford to be as wealthy as East Africa, and the Sigmaringen Crown takes a lot of time to learn from the East African experience.
However, this is an upfront investment for East Africa, and although the Sigmaringen Crown Territory cannot bring value to East Africa now, once it is formed, the value it creates will definitely be much stronger than that of the indigenous people, so that it can also drive the development of northwestern East Africa in the future.
