Chapter VII Troop Deployment in the Western Region
There are countless "minor contradictions" on the East African border, and the conflict with the Portuguese is the most numerous, especially on the border between Mozambique and East Africa.
As for Angola, it is a secondary direction in East Africa's strategy, and it should not be seen that Angola occupies fertile land and excellent ports on the Atlantic coast, although this is "greedy" in East Africa, but the Indian Ocean coast has always been the core of East Africa.
The area controlled by Mozambique is the focus of East Africa's attention, and one only needs to look at the implementation and deployment of East Africa, which is surrounded by East Africa on almost all sides.
Although the Indian Ocean is in the direction of the ocean, there is also a naval base in the Comoros Islands in East Africa, so the danger is much greater in Mozambique than in Angola.
However, in contrast to East Africa, Portugal's experience in Angola is significantly higher than in Mozambique, most notably in that three Portuguese brigades are deployed in Angola, while Mozambique has only one native brigade.
However, there are British support for Mozambique, and the last main battlefield was in Mozambique, so Mozambique has formed an army, the size of which is maintained at about 20,000 people, and these 20,000 people have formed two divisions according to European army standards, or British standards.
In addition, there are more than 10,000 black servants, the number of black servants, but it is organized as a reserve by the Mozambican Governor's Office, so the main military personnel in Mozambique are about 30,000, and if the army is expanded in wartime, it should reach more than 100,000 people, and the source of soldiers is mainly black.
Angola's military strength is only stronger, not weaker, but Angolan military power is more reflected in the direct leadership of the kingdom, with a focus on two infantry brigades and one cavalry brigade on the mainland.
Angola alone numbered more than 13,000 native Portuguese troops, in addition to more than 40,000 people formed by the Angolan colonies themselves and under the leadership of the Portuguese army.
Therefore, Angola and Mozambique have a big difference in the military model, Mozambique is obviously more autonomous, while the Angolan army is mainly under the jurisdiction of Portugal itself, which is basically only a name difference from Portugal itself.
So Brenzino said: "Don't have a conflict with the East Africans, on our side, the blacks are not trustworthy, the three of us alone are not enough to pose a threat to the East Africans on the other side, and we cannot bear the corresponding consequences, if the East Africans do not do something too out of the ordinary, we can only turn a blind eye." ”
What is out of the ordinary, that is, illegal border crossing, or East Africa taking the initiative to attack, so that the initiative is completely in the hands of East Africa, Brunzino felt depressed when he thought of this.
As a matter of fact, East Africa is also very depressed in this regard, especially the Western Military Region, which is currently only able to use the strength of two divisions, and the rest of the troops have been concentrated in the three central provinces and are ready to be put on standby at any time.
As a result, the pressure on the Western Military Region is the greatest, with a total of five divisions, two of which are in the center, one in South-West Africa, and only the 414th and 412th Divisions on the Angolan border.
Before the Portuguese War, the total strength of these two divisions was only more than 13,000, but now it has reached more than 20,000 after expansion, and there are more than 50,000 military personnel in Angola on the opposite side.
Moreover, the western border of East Africa is long, and the development intensity is not as strong as that of the east, and the railway only has the western section of the Central Railway, and it is only built to the city of Mangu.
As a result, East Africa does not have much advantage over Angola in terms of transportation and logistics, and there are several trunk lines in the entire western part of the highway, which are the transportation lifeblood of the western region, but they are not necessarily stronger than Angola.
This was due to the greater pressure on the Southern Military District, including the Transvaals, the British, and the Portuguese.
Therefore, in order to be able to support the southern battlefield at any time, four divisions of East Africa are deployed in the three central provinces, and these four divisions will support in the east, west, and south directions according to the needs of the battlefield.
Therefore, Hans also took it when he saw it, and could not overstimulate the Portuguese, he said to his subordinates: "We continue to patrol, there is no need to stare at this group of Portuguese here, Kars, the three of you continue to stay here and stand guard, if anything happens, you will fire a warning shot." ”
"Yes, squad leader!"
Seeing the East African patrol disperse, Brunzino could only leave with a group of obscure black soldiers, as if nothing had happened.
It is worth mentioning that the division of military regions in East Africa is very different from that of East Africa, because the original division of military regions in East Africa is somewhat out of date for the expansion of East Africa's territory, or for the development of the central and western regions.
For example, the three central provinces are now one of the core regions of East Africa in terms of economic strength and population size.
However, it is still within the scope of the Western Military Region, while in the western part of East Africa, the scope of military activities has been expanded, such as the Nile Military Region, which controls the northwest of East Africa, including the former Sudan and the Central African Republic, and originally had only two divisions.
Later, the area of East Africa was expanded to the easternmost city of Bangui, and the main channel of the Congo River was also included in the East African military area, so that the scope of the Nile Military Region was greatly expanded.
The strength of the two divisions was not enough, so a new 312 division was added to be responsible for the defense of the Ubangi River and the Congo River basin.
In fact, this also caused the Nile Military Region to be responsible for the defense of Egypt (Sudan) and other forces in the north, and at the same time shoulder the heavy responsibility of supporting the Western Military Region at any time.
With the help of the Ubangi and Congo rivers, the 312th Division could quickly reach the city of Kinshasa and use it as a position to deter and strike at the Portuguese sphere of influence in the lower reaches of the Congo River.
As for the fact that the 312th Division is actually bordered by the Belgian colony and Sigmalingen, there is basically no conflict between the two, so it is feasible to temporarily borrow the strength of the 312th Division.
The Western Military Region has also been incorporated into South-West Africa (including southern Angola), and its area has been directly expanded by nearly one million square kilometers.
Therefore, one of the main factors affecting the national defense of western East Africa is the large-scale development of the central and western regions, especially the construction of the three industrial provinces in the central region, as well as the development of Hesse province in the Congo River basin.
One is the expansion of the western part of the country, which includes the Congolese rainforest and South-West Africa, which are included in the sphere of influence in East Africa.
With the economic strength of the central provinces, it should actually be separated from the Western Military Region, so as to form a new Central Military Region, but East Africa already has a central region.
If the capital of East Africa is "moved" in the future, then the Central Military Region should be moved to the central region of East Africa, and the former Central Military Region will be changed to the "Eastern Military Region."
However, although the current division of military regions is somewhat unreasonable, it can still be used, and on the whole it is still in line with the needs of East Africa's national conditions, because the original development intensity of the entire western region is too low, so East Africa has not changed much in recent years, except for the construction of a few more roads.
Moreover, the development of transportation in East Africa has made it more convenient for military mobilization in East Africa, especially after the opening of the Hesse Provincial Railway, the East African Railway Grid Bureau centered on the city of New Frankfurt has basically taken shape.
In the future, the status of New Frankfurt as a national railway hub will not be changed, and the city of New Farakfurt will be accessible in all directions.
According to the East African Rail network, the city of New Frankfurt can be reached almost anywhere in East Africa and is the most convenient route.
