Chapter XXXVII. Shut the door and fight ghosts

I cried out in my heart, there is an old saying in Chinese, called "the coffin is closed", which means that once the coffin is covered, the result cannot be changed, and it is used to describe that a thing has been decided.

In metaphysical terms, the coffin, also known as the coffin, is the resting place of the dead. In the countryside, people are generally put into the coffin after death, because the dead are very sick and dead, so after entering the coffin, the coffin lid will be closed, so that after three days of parking, the coffin lid will be nailed before the burial. And during the period from the time the dead are put in to the time when the coffin is carried for burial, the coffin cannot be moved in any way, and the bad luck is only one aspect, and more seriously, it is easy to collide with the soul.

It's like when you're sleeping soundly at home, and suddenly someone comes and breaks your door and wakes you up.

So I asked the third child, did the child push the coffin lid open? The third child shook his head and said, after I left the room just now, I also asked when I coaxed the child to sleep, and said Xuanxuan, did you open the lid of grandpa's coffin? The child said it wasn't him, and if the mother hadn't said it, he wouldn't have noticed that the lid of the coffin had been opened.

I thought to myself that it was not reasonable, the coffins were made of solid wood, and the lid was dozens of pounds, such a child could not be pushed open in theory. My mind got stuck on this matter, because I couldn't confirm if it was because there were ghosts in the first place, and it was these ghosts who pushed the lid of the coffin. Just then, a familiar voice sounded from my side.

"Oh, you back baby! shouted that you hid your skills, but you didn't listen! Now it's all right! Everyone has seen it, I see how you explain it to your master! From this fiery tone and anxious speed, I knew that this was Aunt Xu's voice. It turned out that when I was saving the child just now, Uncle Zhou disappeared, so he must have hurried home and called Aunt Xu. Although she was scolding me, Aunt Xu's tone sounded very anxious, and she must have been worried about my safety. So I told her, I'm really sorry to surprise you so late, I really can't help this matter today, the child's situation was more dangerous at that time, if I don't save it on the spot, it will probably be too late.

I comforted Aunt Xu and said, I know that I am worrying you by doing this, but my master should also understand me, because even if it is another person, he will definitely do it. Although we are so-called "feudalists", we do not harm others, we save them.

After these few words were uttered, I felt very proud, probably because of the young relationship, and there was no clear prioritization of many things, because in my opinion, saving the child at that time was the top priority, so I couldn't think too much.

At this time, the eldest and the second and some people who were still on the mourning hall came over, and pointed and said, Aunt Xu, don't blame this young man, we have all seen it, he is a good person, thanks to him here today, otherwise you would have let our group of crop men have no way. The third child also told Aunt Xu, that's right, Auntie, if it weren't for him, my child would not be saved.

Everyone, you and I are speaking for me. My heart is still quite warm, I may have done something I shouldn't have done today, but what I did was not a bad thing, if I was arrested again because of my good deeds, then I would have to obey my life, wouldn't I? Thinking of this, I suddenly became open-minded, so I said to Aunt Xu, don't worry, I did this alone, none of you know, if someone comes to me for trouble in the future, I will definitely not drag you two old people into the water, these days, you have been taking care of me so much, I will definitely repay you.

After saying that, I bowed deeply to Aunt Xu, because what I was thinking at the time was that maybe after tonight, I might not be able to borrow their house. But at this time, the boss of the Wang family said, young man, what are you talking about? Why would anyone come to you for trouble? So I briefly told him about my previous arrest, but I didn't say anything about Master's "prison robbery". The boss of the Wang family is a reckless man, he patted his strong chest and said, Damn, today this matter is the person who saved me from our Wang family, you are the benefactor of my Wang family, who the does not know each other in the future and dares to come to you to trouble, first pass the Lao Tzu level!

He put his hand on my shoulder and said, don't worry, young man, don't say that we haven't made much revolution here, even if it is really troublesome, if anyone dares to bully you, Lao Tzu will give him a white knife to go in, and a green knife to come out!

The second child interjected, big brother, isn't it a red knife? The boss said loudly, you know a fart, Lao Tzu will stab him with this knife!

The boss's words aroused the support of those present, and they all said that no one would expose and report me, and if there was, it must be someone present tonight, and they would definitely find out. As long as someone dares to do this, it is guaranteed that he will not be able to stay in this village. I thanked everyone for their help, turned my head to look at Aunt Xu, she looked at me with a reproachful but loving look and said, you rabbit cub... Ay!

I think Aunt Xu is worried, but she can be regarded as discouraged. So let Uncle Zhou take Aunt Xu home first, and the old couple will rest first, I still have something to do here, if it's too late, I'll stay here for a while tonight. After the uncle and aunt left, I gathered the eldest and second and third together, told them my opinion, and asked the eldest to check whether the lid of his father's coffin had been pushed open. Now that things have come to this point, I have no need to hide my identity, so I frankly told them that there must be something evil in your mourning hall, and if it is not solved before the funeral, it is very likely that the old man will not be able to walk unsteadily, even if he is buried in the ground, it is difficult to guarantee that there will be no moths in the future.

The boss went to see the coffin and came back to tell me that he had indeed been pushed open with a palm-wide opening and asked me if I wanted to close the coffin again, and I asked him not to be busy for now, so that I could find out what was going on. Then I asked the boss to borrow a handful of flour from his house and sprinkle it evenly on both sides of the threshold of the hall.

In rural areas, almost every household has a threshold at the entrance of the hall. Most of the thresholds are about one foot high, one is to prevent water from pouring into the house when it rains, and the other is to block the road and demarcate the road. Since ancient times, China has set up thresholds at the entrance door, and I don't know when it was at the earliest, but I once read about it in a book at Master's house. Roughly speaking, the threshold is separated by the inside and outside of the house, that is, no matter whether you enter or exit, you need to lift your foot to cross the threshold so as not to fall. In ancient times, if demons and monsters wanted to enter the house, they would trip over the threshold and be unable to enter the house. Therefore, Chinese often use the threshold to describe whether a family is an ordinary person or a dignitary, and the so-called threshold here refers specifically to those who should not enter the door, so they can only stay outside the door.

Presumably, Old Man Wang and his children only knew that the door of the house had a threshold, but they didn't know that this small wooden board actually contained the great wisdom of ancient China.

Since I didn't have any tools on me, apart from the spells and water spells I remembered, the only thing I could control at the moment was my soldiers and horses. However, because my soldiers and horses are still shallow in cultivation, they are just rampant soldiers. Now that the coffin is open, and a good set of skins are lying there, it is difficult for me to guarantee that a few rampant soldiers will not take the wrong path and take advantage of the loopholes. Therefore, when the method of using soldiers and horses to investigate things is not used now, I can only find another way. I sprinkled flour around the house, at the main entrances and exits, and told everyone not to touch it no matter what. Then I stood directly opposite the threshold of the hall, piled up the coffin of the old man Wang, bowed deeply, and prayed silently in my heart, saying that I am here to solve the matter, not to cause trouble, and I will help you deal with these things before you go out of the funeral. Then I placed a bottle of vinegar placed upside down on Old Man Wang's coffin.

Actually, I have no bottom in my heart, but I need to say this to leave myself a road with no back, and I must go on.

Then I took a large handful of incense and lit it, one for every three sticks, and put one on the ground at each entrance and exit of the house, and every time I planted the incense, I had to silently recite the mantra:

"The hand takes the golden whip and the heavens and the earth moves, and the feet step on the seven stars and five thunderclouds. Liuding and Liujia followed me, and I turned to summon the heavenly soldiers. There is no blood in the sky, there is no blood in the earth, the balance is flat, and the evil gods and evil spirits cannot come close. The Divine Soldier is as urgent as the law! ”

This spell is commonly known as the ghost spell. But it doesn't really have to be fought, it depends on the caster's original intention. If I rashly use the ghost spell to clean up the ghosts in this house, and whether I can accept it or not, even if I do, I will hurt the ghost of this old man. So when I recite this mantra, I am more frightened so that the ghosts inside will not act rashly. The content of the incantation is to invite the heavenly soldiers, obviously, I have not reached that level, but reciting the incantation in this way can be regarded as a bluff.

Actually, my purpose in doing this is very simple, the flour on the ground, is to check for traces of ghost activity. Usually, on the night before the funeral on the third day, the door of the mourning hall is closed and white ash is sprinkled on the ground. Legend has it that on the third day, black and white impermanence will come to take away the dead, and when black and white impermanence steps on these white ashes, there will be footprints of chicken paws. On the day of the funeral, if you open the door and see chicken footprints, it means that the deceased has been successfully taken away and can be buried.

The vinegar bottle on the coffin is thinking that after I cast a spell, those ghosts will definitely appear to run around, and the upside-down glass bottle is easy to be affected by the environment and overturn to the ground, so I can judge the ability of this group of ghosts, and then know if I have a way to deal with it, and breaking the bottle itself can also play a role in scaring ghosts.

It was even easier to plant incense at the door, because I concluded that most of the ghosts that the child had encountered inside before were not harmful ghosts, but ghosts that had been dead for a long time and perhaps did not have incense to worship.

Because the incense is the food of the ghosts, the old man Wang died, and the incense candles in front of the mourning hall were vigorous, so they also attracted squabbies from all directions, which caused the gathering of ghosts. I planted incense at the door, firstly, to prevent the ghosts from escaping out again, and secondly, to feed them, which was also regarded as a favor on me, so that when I dealt with them, perhaps the resistance I encountered would be gentle.

When I was done, I sat quietly and waited, but there was no movement for a long time, so I sat in the cold wind in a daze and waited all night, when suddenly the sound of glass breaking woke me up, and I looked at the sky, and it was close to 5 o'clock in the morning.

I woke up from a drowsy start, and quickly grabbed three sticks of incense in my hand, and patted the incense ash on the ground with my left hand, so that my left hand was dirty at the moment. Then I spit a little bit into the palm of my hand, and with a stick, I wrote a word in the palm of my hand.
