Chapter One Hundred and Two. Arhat base
Qin Buuchi thought about it and said, this Xuanwu is easy to understand on the side, intuitively speaking, it should mean that it is close to the Xuanwu position or the Xuanwu is next to it. It's just that these "two immortals" really can't guess what they mean, if they are immortals, then there are countless Taoist immortals.
Two immortals, two immortals... Could it be that you are talking about harmony and two immortals? Qin Bukong muttered to himself. Then he quickly overturned his speculation and said to us, if it is the two immortals of harmony, first of all, it has nothing to do with the "spirit" we want to break into, and secondly, even if it really refers to them, it should not be left on the Arhat, it should be the old man.
After thinking about it for a long time, Qin Bukong still didn't have an accurate conclusion, and he didn't even have the general direction to guess. So the three of us seemed to be in a dilemma. At this time, I proposed, or let's think of a way to see if there is any other handwriting on the base of this arhat, and if there is, then maybe we can connect with these eight characters into a more coherent sentence.
Songzi climbed to Luohan's side again, and then reached out and patted the copper a few times, letting out a dull sound of Dangdang. Then he slapped it a few more times near the base, and although the sound was similar, it was obviously much weaker than before, no longer the thick sound, lost its echo, and felt even solid inside.
But this arhat is like a statue with wide feet and narrow head, even if it is a solid bronze statue, there is no reason to be in the widest place, isn't that equivalent to a waste of materials? Just as I was puzzled, Matsuko said to me, I think there is something in the base, and the sound sounds like something heavy has been filled with the base.
I said that this is also possible, if the Arhat is a pure hollow, then although its weight is heavy, it is not to the point that it cannot be moved away for thousands of years. Even if there is solid copper in this base, it is also to make this sitting statue more stable, this is a tumbler away, understand?
I relied on the little physics knowledge I learned from Meng Dongxue in the mountain village and showed it off in front of the pine nuts. Instead of paying attention to me, Matsuko jumped down again, then bent down and got under the desk.
Since ancient times, in order to achieve the purpose of moisture and rust prevention, the base used to place the statue of the Buddha in the Buddhist hall has generally chosen a softer wood for the shelf, rather than an iron shelf. So I'm guessing that Matsuko is doing this to get in and see if there is any other handwriting on the base. But soon he came out and said that between the wooden shelf and the arhat, there was a layer of planks, which seemed to be used to distribute the weight. I asked him how thick the planks were and if we could sawn them. Matsuko said that it could not be detected visually, but the sound of percussion and the original size of the bronze statue seemed to be about half an inch thick.
This means that if we want to see the base of the bronze Arhat, we have to find a way to get rid of the plank. Although we have a letter of introduction from the abbot of Mibao, it is a bit disrespectful to change the pedestal of the Buddha statue like this, and it is a bit abrupt. So the three of us combined, or planned to report to the temple first, and then do it after the consent of the people. Even if the other party doesn't agree, we can visit Abbot Mibao again and ask him for help.
When the old monk heard that we were going to remove the wooden planks from the base, he repeatedly stressed to us that this Buddha statue had not been moved since it was rebuilt in 1902, and that if we did this, we would not be blamed by the Arhats. Qin Bukong said to the old monk at this time, even if it is to blame, it is also blamed on us, and if we don't check it, it will be tantamount to returning in vain. I said old monk, you look me in the eye, you tell me, do I look like the one who has returned in vain?
The atmosphere was awkward all of a sudden, Qin Bukong was polite before, but now he actually started to play hooligan again. His threatening words made the old monk speak for a long time, probably since the old monk became a monk, he has never met anyone who wants to dismantle the base of the Buddha statue. So he said, then please restore us to the original state after the investigation is completed, and I hope you find what you are looking for, Amitabha, and the Buddha will not blame.
The pedantry of monks has always been something I don't understand very well. But after listening to the other party's promise, I didn't bother to care so much. Although I don't threaten others at every turn like Qin Bukong, Qin Bukong does use his rudeness to make these things much easier.
The carpenter's tools are readily available in the temple, which saves us the time of going out to buy them. I went under the base of the statue and looked at it, and found that the wooden board was placed directly on the wooden frame in the shape of a field, and I reached out and tapped it, and the other side of the wooden board was also directly attached to the base of the bronze statue, because when I struck, I found that there was no gap. After calculating the location, Matsuko and I spent a lot of time, chiseling and sawing, and digging a big hole in the wooden plank of the base. We were very careful not to hurt the bronze body of the Arhat, and second, we had to grasp the balance of power during this period, so as not to use too much force, causing the heavy bronze statue to crush the wooden frame and thus smash us to death under the desk.
When the base of the bronze statue is exposed, perhaps because it is not directly exposed to the air, the base looks very new, except for the feeling that the bronze has been aged. And sure enough, as Songzi and Qin Bukong expected, on the base, there are indeed eight words engraved: "The North Shensu, Lock the River and Stand".
The so-called Northern Shensu is actually still talking about Xuanwu. After all, in Taoist mythology, Xuanwu is different from the other three in the Four Elephants, and it separately symbolizes the seven northern houses of the twenty-eight Nakshatras, so the Northern Shensu here should actually refer to Xuanwu. It's just that this lock is standing on the river, and I don't know what it means. And we don't know what order the sixteen words we found before and after should be, so it's even more difficult to understand.
The arrangement of these eight characters and the font size are similar to the characters we find behind the bronze statue, so there should be a necessary correlation between the two. What I noticed was that there was a square-shaped weld on the base, which was supposed to be more than a thousand years old, and there was no welding technology at that time. On closer inspection, I found that it was when the base was sealed, and it was heated at high temperature and then hit with a hammer to close the seam, and there were even some damages at the edges.
Generally speaking, if you want to seal the base of the bronze statue, then the opening should be as small as possible, so as to make it appear more stable after being placed flat, but the sealing place in front of you, boxy, the area is not small, to accommodate an adult in and out, as long as you squeeze your body a little to be able to drill in, is it that the person who donated the bronze statue at the beginning, in order to open the bronze statue when it was dirty, was it a special opening? I quickly reversed my idea, because if that was the case, I wouldn't have to make such a big hole, as long as I could fit things in. Moreover, when the pine nuts slapped the body of the bronze statue before, it made a thick and responsive sound similar to ringing a bell, indicating that there was no filling at all in the body of the bronze statue, at least above the knee, and it was just hollow.
Matsuko pointed to the edge of the weld and asked me, "Look at this place, does it look a little different from other places?" I took a closer look and found that there was a weld about half a foot in length, which was obviously more protruding than the rest of the place, as if someone had welded it once, but for some reason, it was re-welded by someone else.
In this case, there is only one possibility. After making this bronze Arhat, the craftsman originally sealed it, but the person who donated the copper body quietly pried open the bottom of the weld, then dug a larger opening, and then filled in the stuff, and then re-welded, so as to create a mark of two welds. If he said that what he wanted to put in could be known to others, such as filling in the dirt on the arhat, then he would not have to work again.
So far, many of the clues we have learned are pointing directly to what is contained in the base of the Arhat, first of all, it must be a heavy object, so heavy that it must be put on by someone who can only be placed in it, and it will not be damaged after thousands of years. Matsuko looked at me and said, "Do you think this is the stone box we're looking for?"
I actually suspected that it was possible, and at the moment, it seems that it is not a small possibility. But we can't leave it empty, so we need to pry open the weld to see it. According to the experience of the previous three levels, if there is really a stone box we are looking for, then we will inevitably encounter the attack of ghosts in this process, and it is very likely to be the ghost of the "魉", and if there is really a stone box inside, it actually directly proves that this bronze Arhat statue was made and donated by the predecessor of the array.
But it's not easy to pry open the bronze utensils, after we got out of it, we discussed it with Qin Bukong, it is naturally not advisable to knock and knock, after all, we are in other people's temples, we still can't be too rude, at least don't let the other party find out when we are rude. So I took the initiative to go out and buy welding rods and spray guns to burn, because that is the best way I can think of, now I want to see the inside, the copper body Arhat naturally has to be pierced, we can burn it along the welding wire, so that the internal structure will not be damaged, and if we find something, it can be restored as it is.
So Qin Bukong nodded and told me to go and come back quickly, and I immediately ran out of Guiyuan Temple.
