Chapter 7 A Legacy for Yourself
Diagon Alley, on the cobblestone streets.
Snape glanced at Ollivander on the south side of Diagon Alley, and said in a tone that could not be denied:
"You should go to Ollivander now and pick a wand."
Ash rolled her eyes as she carried a large bag, and from a distance, they should now go to a stationery store or drugstore to buy the stationery on their list and the essentials they needed for Potions class.
And Snape named him to go to Ollivanders, and Harley, who had just entered Ollivanders under the leadership of Hagrid, was obviously inseparable.
He hadn't planned to have frequent contact with Harley, which would likely have caused Dumbledore to be wary. Too deliberate contact can easily break the character set up by Ash. But if it was Snape who offered it, it was reasonable for Ash, who had no penny on him, to passively accept it.
Ash didn't leave immediately, but waited for Snape, who had not received a reply, to bow his head impatiently before asking:
"What is Harley's birthday?"
Snape said:
"1980-07-31."
Snape frowned, "Why are you asking this?" β
Ash pretended to be deep in thought, and after thinking for two seconds, he asked:
"I think you should buy her a belated birthday present, what do you think of the owl?"
ββ¦β¦β
Snape fell silent, glanced at Ollivander not far away, and turned to walk towards the Ellaowl store on the north side.
It is said to be an owl store, but its practical pet store is more appropriate.
Because it's not just owls, but also toads, cats, snakes, and even mice. But the most numerous are owls, including grass owls, horned owls, grey forest owls, and brown owls...... Not only is the quantity the largest, but also the variety.
At this time, Ash was standing in front of one of the cages containing owls.
Inside is a beautiful snowy owl, which contrasts sharply with the gray owls fluttering around. He fluttered his wings and met Ash with his jewel-like eyes.
"What do you think of this one?" Ash asked.
"Good."
Snape bowed his head slightly in approval, thought for a moment, and then said:
"You can buy one for yourself."
"Next time."
Ash picked up the cage containing the snowy owl and spoke:
"Hallie should have picked out her wand, it was their last stop, and she would probably leave after buying it. Also, I'd rather find a magical creature to be a pet than an owl. β
When Snape heard this, he stopped mentioning the matter of buying a pet for Ash, and after paying the money at the front desk, he hurried to Ollivander with Ash.
Ollivanders, on the south side of Diagon Alley, is a small, dilapidated shop with a peeling gold sign on the door that reads: Ollivanders: A well-made wand since 382 BC.
In the dusty window, a wand sits alone on a faded purple cushion. The shop was small, with nothing but a bench. Thousands of long, narrow cardboard boxes with magic wands were piled up to the ceiling in the small shop. The shop seems to have been uncleaned for a long time, and there is dust everywhere.
And just as Ash had expected, by the time they arrived at Ollivanders, Harley had already picked out her wand and paid Mr. Ollivander seven gold Galleons.
Ash pushed the door open and said hello with a smile:
"Hallie."
"Ash." Harley looked back in surprise, and then saw Ash hand over the cage in his hand.
"Owls? Did you buy this? β
Harley blinked, and looked down curiously at what was in the cageβit was a beautiful owl with snow-white feathers, and was sleeping soundly with its head under its wings.
Ash smiled softly:
"It's a present, a late birthday present, from Professor Snape."
"Professor Snape......" Harley whispered, looking at the hook-nosed male behind Ash
"Thank you, Professor Snape."
Snape looked a little moved, and wanted to say, 'I'm sorry I didn't make it to your birthday party, Hallie, your mother would be proud of you,' but he didn't think it was out of place, he shouldn't have said that. Eventually, Snape pondered for a long time and whispered:
"It should."
Harley took the cage from Ash and asked expectantly:
"And what about Ash's gift?"
"Huh?"
Ash was stunned for a moment, as if he didn't expect that he also had a share.
Hallie saw that Ash didn't seem to have the idea of giving her a gift, and she was inevitably a little disappointed in her heart, and forced a smile:
"It's okay, I'm ......"
Before she could finish speaking, she saw Ash fumbling around her body for a while, then finding a flaming red feather out of nowhere and handing it to Harry.
"Huh?" Hallie blinked, took it curiously, and asked:
"What is this?"
"It's a phoenix's feather."
Ash explained, and then added with some reluctance:
"That's all I have."
"That'......" Hallie subconsciously wanted to return it.
"Take it."
Ash saw the girl's kind thoughts, smiled and said:
"It's definitely worth more than that snowy owl!"
Snape glanced at Ash, who couldn't say anything in front of Harry.
This snowy owl cost him 50 Galleons, which is equivalent to a month's salary of an average wizard, and the price is definitely not cheap. But compared to phoenix feathers, this is really nothing.
"Thank you, Ash."
Harley held the feather in her palm and said softly.
An old man stood before them, his big light-colored eyes like two shining moons in the dim shop, and exclaimed:
"The feathers of a phoenix are worth at least 100 gold galleons, or even more, because only Dumbledore has a phoenix in the entire wizarding world!"
"100 gold Galleons?" Harley was surprised:
"But my wand is only 7 Galleons."
According to Mr. Ollivander's introduction, her wand is also made of phoenix feathers, why is it so cheap?
Ash smiled and said:
"That's because the Ollivanders have never been profit-driven, and if a wand is priced at 50 gold galleons or more, a large percentage of wizards will not be able to afford it."
"In addition, the Ollivanders family has always been the best wand makers in the world, and many foreigners come to London just to buy a wand made by Ollivanders."
"Is that so?" Harley was in awe.
A store that has lasted for more than 2,000 years is surprising, and a store that has been open for more than 2,000 years and insists on doing charity is even more respectable.
Ash looked at the old gentleman and said thoughtfully:
"Actually, Mr. Ollivander, one of my ...... Well, someone in my family once ordered a wand for the Ollivander store, and that was more than a hundred years ago, and the store manager at that time was Mr. Gelbod, do you remember? β
"Oh yes, yes, of course I remember!"
Mr. Ollivanders' eyes lit up, and he immediately brought a ladder and climbed to the heights.
