Chapter 73: Change, You Can Change!
As a professor of metamorphosis, Professor McGonagall is extremely confident in her talents.
In today's wizarding world, she is confident that almost no one can beat her in Transfiguration.
So she knew very well that Transfiguration was different from ordinary spells, and ordinary spells often only needed to be mastered to be successfully cast, but Transfiguration could only be considered successful if it was done correctly!
Therefore, only those who have a very high talent in metamorphosis can perform the most difficult metamorphosis and turn people into animals. Of the more than 10,000 wizards in the UK, less than a hundred are capable of mastering this level of transfiguration.
It is even more difficult to turn oneself into an animal, to become an Animagus.
In the entire twentieth century for nearly a hundred years, there were only seven Animagus registered with the Ministry of Magic!
Because the key to becoming an Animagus is that the wizard must transform into an animal while still retaining the complete magic power and the corresponding magic circuit that belongs to the wizard.
Only when the magic power in his body is intact, and the magic power can operate in a way that corresponds to the magic circuit, can the Animagus transform from an animal back to a human.
In fact, although there are only seven Animagus at the Ministry of Magic level, there have been at least a hundred wizards who have tried to become Animagus and successfully transform into animals in the last hundred years.
All of them managed to transform into animals, but without exception, they were unable to retain their magic, not even their sanity.
At least a third of these wizards have been transformed into animals forever, and have not been discovered by anyone, perhaps dead in some dark corner. And the other two-thirds were discovered by other wizards in time, and with the help of Transfiguration, they narrowly changed back into human form.
According to Ash's theory, since the transformed animals of Animagus have magical powers, they cannot be considered ordinary animals, but magical creatures!
Seeing that Professor McGonagall had been silent, Ash asked:
"Professor McGonagall, do you think my theory is valid?"
Professor McGonagall remained silent, and after a long time she spoke:
"Frankly, your theory succeeded in convincing me."
"But according to your theory, it's still impossible for a wizard to transform into other magical creatures."
According to Ash's theory, advanced Transfiguration can be broken down into three stages:
Advanced Transfiguration, which transforms from a human to an animal, does not need to retain magical powers.
The Animagus, who changed from a man to an animal, needed to preserve the magic circuit of the wizard.
Magical Animagus, who transforms from a human to another magical creature, needs to convert its own magic circuit into the magic circuit of the corresponding magical creature.
In Professor McGonagall's opinion, these three stages are completely progressive, and one must progress from the advanced Transfiguration to the Animagus in order to have a chance to become a magical Animagus.
Because if you want to transform from a human to a magical creature, you must have a successful experience of preserving magic circuits in the body of ordinary animals. Only by successfully retaining the magic circuit within a normal animal can one hope to transform one's own magic circuit into the magic circuit of other magical creatures.
The problem is that an Animagus can only transform into one animal.
In other words, when Animagus successfully transformed, he was no longer able to transform into other animals, let alone magical creatures.
But if you can't become an Animagus, you can directly transform into a magical creature by crossing ordinary animals.
It's a dead knot.
Ash thought about it for a moment and thought:
"It's going to be very difficult, but my theory at least provides a practical path. You should know, though, that my original intention in proposing this theory was not to turn wizards into magical creatures. โ
Hearing Ash's words, Professor McGonagall was stunned again. It was then that she remembered that Ash had submitted his paper not to study how wizards could turn into magical creatures, but to study how to turn werewolves into humans!
"Werewolves?"
Professor McGonagall's expression moved, and she immediately substituted the werewolf, a special magical creature, into Ash's theoryโ
Werewolves can unleash magic while in human form, and it can be concluded that werewolves in human form have the same magic circuits as wizards. Werewolves in wolf form lose their minds, so it is difficult to tell if a werewolf in this state can perform magic.
There are two possibilities:
First, whether it is in human form or wolf form, the werewolf magic circuit is the magic circuit of the wizard.
Second, werewolves have two completely different sets of magic circuits in their human form and wolf form.
And the offspring produced by werewolf mating can be divided into three types:
Werewolves in human form mate with humans, and the offspring born are normal humans.
Both partners mate with werewolves in human form, and the offspring born is a werewolf.
Both partners mate with werewolves in wolf form, and the offspring born is a werewolf with only wolf form.
"If those werewolves had the same magic circuit as the wizard's, this transformation might be easy!"
Professor McGonagall looked moved, for she saw something more in the possibility. Because if the wolf-form werewolf has the same magic circuit as the wizard, then the difficulty of transforming a werewolf into a human is the same as that of the Animagus.
Both require the transformation of themselves into another form while preserving the magic circuit.
And if this experiment can be successful, it will be a strong proof of Ash's theory!
So, if Ash could transform a werewolf in wolf form back into a human while retaining its magic circuit. Could he have turned people into animals while retaining their magic circuits?
Does this mean that wizards can also transform into Animagus with the help of outsiders?
If it can really be done, then there may be a possibility of mass production of Animagus, and the status of Transfiguration in the wizarding world will inevitably rise. For Professor McGonagall, who has devoted most of her life to metamorphosis, it can almost be regarded as her life's pursuit!
But despite realizing that this might be an opportunity for metamorphosis, Professor McGonagall's expression became solemn, and she said in a deep voice:
"Mr. Black, you can continue experimenting with those werewolves, but I hope you don't make your theories and research public."
Ash unsurprisingly showed a surprised expression, he hesitated for a moment, and asked:
"Yes, yes, but I want to know why."
Professor McGonagall put it in earnest:
"Mr. Black, you must know that not all wizards can restrain their desires. If Ling's theory were made public, I'm sure it would be quickly embraced by a large number of wizards, but it would also cause some wizards to start experimenting with others. They will try to transform other wizards into Animagus, or even magical creatures. โ
"But most wizards actually lack this kind of talent, and their experiments are bound to have extremely serious consequences!"
Ash's expression was serious, and he seemed to see the consequences of the theory being made public, and he nodded solemnly:
"Professor McGonagall, don't worry, I've only shown you this paper."
"Thank you for your understanding, Mr. Black."
Professor McGonagall's eyes softened, relieved by Ash's sacrifice.
The publication of this paper will undoubtedly bring Ash a great reputation, which is an honor that is difficult for any student to refuse, and it is really commendable that Ash was able to keep his heart and refuse this temptation.
What she didn't know, however, was that Ash hadn't actually intended to publish the paper in the first place.
He deliberately wrote this paper for Professor McGonagall to show so that she could further endorse her experiments.
After all, what he was going to do next would give Hogwarts a little shock.
