Chapter 36: The Wind Has Changed

Brooklyn, Dan's home.

Rufus prepares a sumptuous dinner for his sons and daughters returning from vacation.

As the family sat around the table, Rufus brought the steak, which Dan and Jenny had loved before, but this time they both looked a little strange when they saw the steak.

Dan pretended to be nothing, picked up a knife and fork, cut a piece of beef and put it in his mouth, and couldn't help frowning after chewing the first bite.

Rufus asked with concern:

"What, am I overcooking?"

Dan quickly shook his head, indicating that it tasted good.

At the same time, I finally understood why Yellowstone beef could be sold so expensive.

It turns out that the taste gap between it and ordinary beef is really big.

When Jenny saw Dan's appearance, she immediately pushed the plate forward, indicating that she was planning to lose weight and didn't want to eat it.

Rufus didn't think much of it, sat down at the table, and asked his children how the vacation was.

"It's good, the scenery in Montana is beautiful."

It was Dan who answered first.

"How's Jamie's ranch?"

Rufus then asked.

Dan replied while cutting the steak.

"It's good, it's just a little big."

The kind that's big enough to take a helicopter ride.

Rufus nodded, and continued to ask about Jamie's new house.

"Where's the house? Did he invite you to visit? ”

Dan continued to bury his head in the steak.

"Jamie is going to have a party in the new house some time, Jenny and I have both received invitations, and you."

Rufus was stunned for a moment and couldn't help but ask.

"Will Serena's mom go too? I mean, Jamie probably didn't just invite me as a parent, right? ”

Dan shrugged, he really didn't know about this.

Rufus was slightly disappointed to see that he couldn't get more news of Lily.

However, he didn't show this emotion, and instead asked Dan about applying to college this semester.

"Last time, Serena's mother said that Ivy League week at Constance High School would start next month, so you must be ready, right?"

In Rufus's eyes, Dan is smart and has a good academic performance, and he goes to a prestigious high school like Constance, so it should be easy to apply to the university of his choice.

Dan replied absentmindedly.

"Probably."

Rufus immediately heard the uncertainty in it, frowned and asked:

"What's going on?"

Dan immediately realized that his attitude just now was a little negative, and hurriedly shook his head and said:

"Nothing, you know my first choice was Yale Literature, but ......"

Before he could finish speaking, he was directly interrupted by Rufus.

"You scored 1590 on the SAT in June, and Yale doesn't want you, it will be a loss for Yale!"

Dan suddenly looked up at his father.

"What if that's not enough?"

Rufus looked confused.

What do you mean?

Dan replied frankly:

"The perfect SAT score is 1600."

Rufus still didn't get it.

"So what?"

Dan shrugged helplessly.

"People who are better than me are not scary, what is scary is that people who are better than me work harder than me, yes, I'm talking about Jamie, and his SAT score is a perfect score."

Rufus looked at Dan in surprise.

"So Jamie is also ready to apply to Yale?"

This time it was Jenny who answered.

"Jamie is going to Harvard, so Serena has changed her mind and is going to Harvard, if nothing else, Blair, Chuck and others will choose Harvard together, and this matter has spread in the school."

Rufus listened and became more and more confused.

Isn't that a good thing for Dan, who is preparing to apply to Yale, that so many strong contenders have chosen Harvard?

Dan hesitated for a moment, but finally decided to tell the truth.

"Yale is good, but I also want to give Harvard a try."

Although he knows that he and Jamie are not on the same starting line at all, Dan is still unwilling to compare with Jamie.

Rufus really didn't know what to say now.

He, a person who didn't even go to high school, really can't judge his son's decision.

The only thing that can be done is encouragement and support.

This is the end of the college conversation, when Dan suddenly speaks.

"By the way, the room that was vacated after Jamie moved out is still there, right?"

Rufus looked at his son curiously.

"Yes, why are you asking about this all of a sudden?"

Dan explains:

"I promised a classmate to let him stay at home for a while."

Rufus nodded and said it was fine.

Out of concern, he added another sentence.

"Is that classmate of yours in trouble?"

"His father was cheated of a large amount of money, and he had no choice but to run away from bankruptcy, and the house was taken away by the bank, and now his mother can only take refuge in his grandfather, but he doesn't want to go to his grandfather."

"Wait!"

Rufus grabbed a newspaper and pointed to the front page headline of a prison photo of former Wall Street mogul Martin Channing.

"Your classmate's father, could it be that he was also deceived by this guy?"

Dan shrugged and acknowledged.

Rufus was speechless.

When he read the newspaper before, he still felt that this Martin Channing was not as unbearable as the newspaper said.

If you want to open an account with the other party's investment company, the minimum threshold is $5 million.

At least he doesn't lie to the poor!

Now that it happened to Dan's father, Rufus can only express sympathy and regret.

"No problem, you can let him come over, you can stay as long as you want."

"Thanks, Daddy."

Dan picked up his phone and was about to call Nate.

Just then, a strange phone call came in.

Dan walked to the side to connect, and a calm male voice came from the other end of the phone.

"Dan Hanvers?"

"Yes, it's me, you are?"

"I'm Nate's grandfather, you can call me William."

Dan's eyes widened, his face full of shock.

"You...... Hello Mr. Vanderbilt, I didn't expect you to ......"

"Okay, child, relax, I have two purposes for calling you, the first is to thank you for taking in my grandson, and the other is to ask you if you are free tomorrow afternoon, if it is convenient, I want to meet you and talk about my grandson."

Listening to William's voice on the other end of the phone, Dan's mind went blank.

He never dreamed that a big man like Nate's grandfather would call him personally.

"No problem, Mr. Vanderbilt, I have time."

"Very well, then see you at St. Patrick's Cathedral, it happens to be closed to visitors tomorrow afternoon, and it will be a good place to have a quiet chat."

Dan was shocked again.

is worthy of being a big man, just to make an appointment to meet himself, he directly chartered St. Patrick's Cathedral, which is open to the public all year round.

At this time, Niete's grandfather reminded him on the phone.

He didn't want his grandson to know about the meeting tomorrow.

Dan naturally agreed.

When he hung up the phone, he realized that the hand holding the phone was so nervous that it was already sweating.
