Chapter 38: The True American Dream

Walking out of St. Patrick's Cathedral, Dan's mood was a little low.

He still can't accept that Nate has asked him to meet here, and his real purpose is just to use him as a bargaining chip to negotiate with Jamie.

In other words, he was able to get Nate's grandfather's college recommendation letter not because he could play much of a role in it, but simply because he was a friend of Jamie's.

When the door parted, Jamie planned to invite Dan to his new home for a seat.

Dan shook his head in refusal.

He's just been hit once and doesn't want to be hit a second time.

Jamie nodded, told Dan to wait a moment, followed him into a coffee shop on the side of the road, and quickly brought back two cups of hot coffee.

Dan plans to take the subway back, and Jamie decides to accompany him to the subway station.

On the way, Dan finally couldn't help but ask the question that had been hidden in his heart for a long time.

"Nate's grandfather can provide Nate with a nice apartment, why does he still watch Nate come to my house?"

Jamie took a sip of coffee, stopped to look at Dan with a confused face, and explained seriously:

"It's the same problem as my father's decision to let me stay in your house when he could have bought me an apartment in New York."

"You can imagine if the words on the title page of Percy Jackson were not 'He was inspired to write this story at his host family in Brooklyn,' but 'He was inspired to write this story from his penthouse in Manhattan,' which one would be more inspirational, more in line with the American dream, and more resonant with readers and their parents?"

Dan looked at Jamie with a shocked expression.

As a would-be adult who is about to turn eighteen, he can certainly hear what Jamie is saying now.

Jamie shrugged his shoulders as he held the coffee paper cup in his hand.

"You don't have to look at me like that, I also learned this trick from others, and you must know this person, the famous Apple founder Steve Jobs."

Dan's Adam's apple rolled hard, and he had a strong feeling that what he heard next would completely overturn what he had ever known.

"So you don't really think that Jobs assembled his first PC in a garage because he was so poor that he didn't even have a place to start a business?"

"And Bill Gates's Microsoft, Bezos's Amazon, Google, these companies were born in garages, do you think it's a coincidence? No, they're just copying Jobs' homework. ”

"After all, a company born in a garage is born with the attributes of being close to the people, which is more convenient for the company to establish a good image."

"They never tell you anyway that there might be a huge swimming pool next to the garage where they started their business, and a wide lawn where you can play golf on it."

"It's the same with Nate, he should have decided to start a business before you even sent him an invitation, and in this case he would not be able to live in any big house."

"If WeHouse succeeds in the future, you will definitely see something similar in Nate's entrepreneurial story, after his father was defrauded of arrears and absconded, he had to borrow a friend's house in Brooklyn, and this experience became the biggest motivation for him to start his business."

Jamie shrugged at Dan.

"Doesn't that sound inspiring, at least more convincing than the founder of WeHouse, lying in the big tub of his penthouse next to Central Park, leading his fellows to create a business that will amaze the world, right?"

This meeting with Nate's grandfather made Jamie determined to push Nate to the forefront.

This is actually a deal that Jamie and Nate's grandfather struck as well.

Nate is destined to embark on a career in the future, and if he has a successful entrepreneurial resume before that, it will help him gain the trust and support of voters more easily.

To put it bluntly, Nate's grandfather wanted Nate to finish the gilding at WeHouse.

In exchange, the Vanderbilt family will become a staunch ally in WeHouse's development.

And that's why Jamie insisted on Ranett on the plane yesterday.

Dan, who learned the truth, finally left lost.

He declined Jamie's offer to accompany him to the subway station, and just wanted to be alone for a while.

Jamie, who stood still, did not regret it.

What he said just now was just a tip of the cruel truth about this society to Dan.

If you can't even accept this, then Dan will only encounter more beatings when he really enters society in the future.

On the way to the apartment, Jamie receives a call from Jimmy.

This guy had just found a place to live in Brooklyn and couldn't wait to get to work.

In a hurry to perform, he has already completed the domain name registration and company registration of WeHouse.

Jamie glanced at the calendar itinerary on his phone.

Chuck's dad and Lily's wedding is scheduled for a week later, and Jamie, Chuck, and Nate are all invited to be best men, with Serena and Blair serving as bridesmaids.

Before that, Jamie had to make a trip to Phillips Exeter High School.

Rebecca had sent Zuckerberg's mobile phone and email to Jamie's phone yesterday, and early this morning, Jamie received Zuckerberg's "job resume" in his mailbox.

A website, to be exact.

After Zuckerberg learned some of WeHouse's ideas from Rebecca, it took him just a few hours to code the website.

The WeHouse website functions that Jamie envisioned are basically implemented on this website.

I have to admit that this guy is really efficient.

Although there is a lot of showmanship in this.

In his reply email, Jamie told Zuckerberg that he would be looking for him in the near future.

The exact time is tomorrow.

More than a week has passed since 911, and the rest of New York has returned to normal order, except for the ruins of the collapsed World Trade Tower, which is still smoking.

Even so, Jamie's first choice for travel was to drive rather than fly.

Because it was under the banner of "interviewing" Zuckerberg and it was an official business trip, Jamie fell in love with a yellow Lamborghini Diablo (ghost) SV in Chuck's garage, which is commonly known as the third-generation bull.

The car is a new facelift of Audi's acquisition of Lamborghini from Chrysler and has a top speed of more than 320 km/h.

By the time the production was discontinued last year, a total of 100 units had been produced worldwide.

Zuckerberg flaunted his programming skills, and Jamie had to show off his wealth.

The next morning, while Serena was still asleep, Jamie, who had gone downstairs early, took the keys to the Lamborghini DiabloSV from Chuck's driver, stepped through the scissors door and sat inside.

With the low roar of the motor, the car sped north out of New York and toward Phillips Exeter College in New Hampshire.
