3. Accept the basic idea of aesthetics
Aesthetics of Acceptance takes literature as the main object of analysis, and believes that the study of the nature and characteristics of literature is of little significance, but the study of "the mode of existence of literary works" is important. Yaos sums up this way of being as a kind of "triangle":
In the triangle of author, work and public, the mass is not a passive part, does not exist merely as a reaction, but is itself an active constituent of history. The historical life of a literary work is inconceivable without the active participation of its recipients.
Literary works are fundamentally destined to be created for the recipient.
The aesthetics of reception holds that any literary and artistic text that is not accepted cannot be self-sufficient because they are far from complete. Not only is it far from complete, but in fact such a text provides only potential factors, which can only be realized through acceptance.
Therefore, a history of art is a history of acceptance and consumption; In other words, it is a history of dialogue with recipients of different eras. Acceptance esthetician Wayne Rich said:
For a work to survive, it has to engage in dialogue with readers from different historical periods. To write a history of literature is to write a history of such dialogues.
They strongly disagree with the traditional practice of collecting and arranging various literary facts as history, because such history cuts off the interaction between literary facts and the recipient, which is both one-sided and false. Yao Si said:
the sum total of the entangled, never-ending, ever-growing literary "facts" that have been entangled in the history of traditional literature...... It is simply a collection and categorization of one-sided information left over from the past, so it is by no means history, but pseudo-history.
In short, whether it is a work or a history, the recipient is also the creator, so it can only be completed in the acceptance, which is their real "way of being".
According to this line of thinking, the psychology of acceptance is no less important than the psychology of creation, and it is part of the psychology of creation. Every step of the psychological progress of creation is inseparable from the promotion and correction of the psychology of acceptance.
That said, the aesthetics of reception opens the way for the study of the psychology of reception. In fact, at the beginning of its establishment, it has directly put forward a major proposition that belongs to the category of receptive psychology: the expectation horizon (sometimes translated as "expectation horizon" or "expectation horizon").
