Chapter 159: "Ordinary Smuggling"
Taiping State, the most chaotic area of Night City, has completely abandoned the NCPD after investors went bankrupt and ran away and went to war.
A group of hackers from Haiti founded the Voodoo Gang, which in turn became a real land snake with the support of the local residents, making the territory a place of lawlessness.
Night City's most dangerous mercenaries gather here to evade the pursuit of NCPD and corporation while waiting for the next worthwhile mission.
This is also the first stop commissioned by David: to arrive around a war-torn area called Dog Town in Taiping Prefecture to pick up the goods.
Since entering the Taiping Prefecture area, the NCPD has basically not been seen, and it has its own unique order.
Lucy was always concerned about their prosthetic state, wary of anyone who walked by them--
And David.
"I'll go. Why are there so many unfinished buildings in this place? β
Look around like a curious baby.
Then David has repeatedly mentioned that a typical Santo Domingo person, if it weren't for his mother letting him go to school at Arasaka Academy, he might never have walked out of Santo Domingo for the rest of his life.
Even if you go to school, it's two points and one line.
As for himself, except for watching Black Mewtwo, he basically doesn't watch any news.
Lucy looked helpless: "Take care of your gun, don't look around, concentrate on it, we're working now." β
After being reminded, David quickly got into the groove, placing his right hand in a position where he could quickly touch the gun.
After a few more steps, David suddenly smelled a pungent stenchβjust around the corner ahead.
As he walked, he looked curiously in that direction until he crossed the corner. He found out it was a garbage dump.
And on the garbage heap, there was an undisguised corpse with its eyes gouged out.
David's muscles tensed, and he grabbed the pistol in his pocket on the spot--
"Haha, look, outsider, I'll just say - give money."
Not far away, two crouching guys were smoking cigarettes, and the speaker stretched out his hand to the person next to him.
Then the other man reluctantly gave him a euro ticket.
"Hey, boy, a word of advice for you, this is not a place for rookies like you, turn around and go back."
David put away his smile and shouted, "How do you get to Dogtown?" β
"Hey, this kid is going to Dog Town, hahahaha--"
The two of them laughed so much that tears flowed out, as if they had taken medicine, and their mental and physical states were obviously not quite right.
The two addicts laughed wildly at the garbage heap where the corpse was lying in this way, and this strange scene made David a little uncomfortable.
Lucy patted him, "Concentrate and remind you one last time." β
David nodded.
The sun is shining in Taipingzhou, but everywhere you look, there is a ruin.
Poor people hide in the shadows and indulge in the pleasure of drugs, and their over-stimulated nerves make them no longer dare to look directly at the best things in Taiping.
Sunlight.
Soon, David arrived at his target location, a parking lot far away from Dogtown.
Walking through here, you can see that the so-called Dog Town is completely a city within a fortress - David has only seen low-level troops with military technology, but these stationed in Dog Town are different.
Armored vehicles, heavy weapons, military prosthetics. It's all standard.
"It's no joke there." Lucy also swallowed her saliva.
David nodded: "Are there any traces of being followed on the way here?" β
"Yes." Lucy's face was a little solemn, "There are many more hackers in Taiping Prefecture than I imagined, I don't know if this is normal or not, I haven't been here." β
"You got rid of them?"
"Please don't talk nonsense."
David touched his nose: "I really don't know how you hackers work, I should learn something." β
"You're not supposed to learn something, you're supposed to learn a lot. Our car arrived. β
Two Columbus trucks arrived belatedly with the sign of respectable logistics on them.
In the car, it was the Mann team who had worked with Lille once-
David is the contact, and his character will not betray Lille, while the Mann team is a seasoned mercenary who ensures that things go smoothly.
Lucy sighs when she sees the car and comes into contact with Team Mann's hackers.
Acquaintance.
"David, listen, get in the car in a moment, don't say anything - Burger King is a cautious man, if you are not careful, he may fire you."
"Not a hacker I knew, I thought about bringing her into the team."
In the car, Qi Wei said.
"Someone you know? That's easy to do, let them get in the car. β
Mann, who was in the driver's seat, leaned out and beckoned to David and Lucy, "Get in the car." β
His modified prosthetic hand, which was a mixture of gorilla components and a projectile launcher, had been blown up at the subway station and replaced with a normal prosthetic hand with no enhancements.
David and Lucy each got into a carβ
Mann looked at David, who looked stunned, and said, "Newcomer? Which slice are you mixed in? β
"Santo Domingo."
"Santo Domingo?" Mann was a little surprised, "I haven't seen it, what did you do before?" β
"Uh, stealing skill chips."
"Such a big span? From stealing skill chips to smuggling arms from NCPD and military technology, what do you have to do with Burger King? β
As soon as David opened his mouth, he remembered Lucy's instructions just now.
So he immediately shut up and shook his head: "The relationship between work, after a while the goods come out, count them according to the list for you, if there is less"
"Rest assured, we know what to do."
The car slowly drove to the designated delivery point, which was located behind Dogtown, and the Nether Dog could be seen loading and unloading goods not far away.
An armoured transport vehicle slowly arrives at the delivery point --
Mann and his party stood in place, with his oldest and his girlfriend Dorio standing in front, and Rebecca and Pyra in the back.
The hacker hides in the car - and David, whether he is a novice or not, knows how to deliver or not, is the first mercenary that Lille has hired.
So he had to stand in front of Mann - at least a line.
"Rare - a group of poor novices can buy so many things."
The man driving the car also looks like a mercenary - but his two prosthetic hands are both military goods, and they are not of a low level, they belong to the kind of ones that are not particularly large, but the effect is top-notch.
David turned on his scanner:
[Military Technology Firearm Control Prosthetic (Model Unknown)]
[Description: The standard arm equipped for military technology assaulters in the United War, for specially paired firearms, can almost allow the user to be affected by recoil and enhance arm strength in combat.] γ
"Don't look at it, boy, hurry up and receive it."
Boxes and crates of munitions were placed on the ground, awaiting inspection.
Mann winks at his own people, and Rebecca and Pyrrha step forward to examine their guns.
I don't know if I don't check this, and I'm shocked when I check it.
For mercenaries of their level, the best technical weapon they can get access to is a technical shotgun like Sadara, which is simple, reliable, and powerful, but the disadvantages are also obvious and expensive.
For the vast majority of mercenaries, it would be a better choice to modify a kinetic weapon, such as a killing shotgun with affordable firepower, which is durable and has a lot of room for modification.
The popularity of the various pistols in Night City is even higher - but it's not that people don't want to use better ones, it's that they can't afford them.
And now they get the arms.
MK31 heavy machine guns, 4 units;
Ajax rifles of the military type, 10 pieces;
Sadara technical shotguns, 4 pcs.;
2 recoilless M5 rocket launchers, 4 rounds of ammunition;
Javelin individual surface-to-air missiles, 6 rounds;
SPH Explosive Launchers, Explosive Grenades, Electromagnetic Pulse Grenades, Concussion Grenades, Multifunctional Radars
The more they counted, the more solemn the expressions of the group became--
The things they have on hand are toys compared to these things, and these things are actually used on the battlefield.
Burger King told them it was just an ordinary smuggling.
But they seem to have a bit of a disagreement on the understanding of the words "ordinary smuggling".
David didn't react at all - he just thought it was pretty awesome, as if he hadn't seen it on the street or on the news.
So he immediately said: "There are fewer things, two more heavy machine guns, 4 fewer rockets, and grenades"
"Boy, are you sure?"
The mercenaries in charge of carrying the goods wore masks and tactical masks, and looked like bandits.
Mann's heart sank--
David shook his head: "I'm sure, there's something missing. β
Quite stunned - he just wants to do things well and not live up to the expectations of his eldest brother.
The atmosphere cooled to freezing, and Mann's men leaned slightly towards the weapon.
But the person on the other side suddenly smiled: "That's probably really less, look at the trunk and see if there's anything else - damn, this car is a little big."
You're a soldier, kid. β
The other side carried two more boxes of munitions - this time together.
After the confirmation, the armored transport vehicle drove away, and everyone breathed a sigh of relief.
Mann slapped his hand on David's shoulder: "David. What the hell do you think? β
David looked confused: What do you think?
But he felt that he couldn't look too stunned, so he said, "There is still something to be transported, and the work is not finished yet." β
The group wiped a handful of sweat and carried the goods into the car.
The little man Rebecca gently bumped David and gave him a thumbs up.
You mean, the receiver is a stunned young man? New to business? β
"That big man looks like a veteran, but it's the level of a normal mercenary, quite big, and he doesn't have many brains.
There are such people in Night City, who think that they will be invincible in the world with a decorated prosthetic, and maybe one day they will have a cyber psychosis.
The one who took the lead must be a novice, but he was stunned like a construction robot, a good seedling to be a soldier - the kind that asked him to carry out suicide attacks without suspicion. β
In these days, being a soldier is about the same as being a terrorist.
Hinches listened to his men's reports, Mosuo teacups.
"Interesting - but I don't like it when someone makes extra money from me outside of the rules."
The person on the other end of the phone was stunned, and a large snowflake suddenly appeared in the right prosthetic eye, and then fell out suddenly!
He reached out and grabbed his eyeball, and then the eyeball popped open, making him sweat profusely.
"Me"
"There's no next time, remember to remember for a long time."
